The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I feel confident I'm getting the best care for my eyes! I see Dr. VanMeter for my regular eye exams. She takes the time to listen to me and makes sure I'm happy with my prescription. She always manages to dig up some samples for me, despite my not-too-common prescription. The exam rooms are spotless. It's a nice, quiet setting that's perfect for folks who experience appointment anxiety. This past year was my first time ordering glasses from the store, and I'd definitely order again. The staff were extremely helpful with my indecisiveness about the frames. They had great suggestions, and I ended up with a pair I love. I initially had some issues with the fit, and they encouraged me to return as many times as necessary to ensure I was comfortable with them. Their selection of frames are on the expensive side, but they seem to be worth the price. Things to note: There's a parking garage in the same building. You can access it through the alley to the left of the clinic. They have convenient online scheduling. They also offer an online contact ordering system, but it's a little confusing to use. I typically ask staff to order my contacts for me after my appointments.

Dr. Carly Szafranski was great! She explained everything she was doing and educated me along the way! Had some long lasting dilation issues in my left eye 24hours after my appointment so I called them. Customer service was great and they contacted Dr. Carly directly and she called me with 10 minutes if the original call. She let me know it was normal and made a note in my chart to prevent it from happening again. Very impressed. Will be back.

With a pair of broken glasses, I stopped into Solomon Optical and had them repaired in no time. The staff is incredibly quirky (in a Seinfeld kind of way), endearing, and helpful. They, usually a staff of three, run a somewhat fly by the seat of your pants ship as they dodge piles of papers, glasses orders, various items from the 90s, and promotional materials. How endearing, I thought. So, I made an appointment with their optometrist who's in once a week since I was due for a check up. With the appointment I made, they didn't charge me for fixing my glasses. On a side note: if you buy glasses from them, adjustments are always free of charge. When I arrived for my appointment the following week, I let them know that I was only interested in getting contacts but they sat me down anyway and had me try on about 20 different glasses. I'm glad they did this for the woman who was helping me knew exactly what she liked and didn't like for my face and coloring - so helpful! They really do offer great service that is honest and upfront. The reason I'm giving them three stars is mostly attributed to the chaotic state of things. The optometrist was a very nice woman and completely capable. The exam room, however, was cramped, inefficient, with outdated/uncleaned equipment, and no sink to wash my hands in before sticking my fingers in my eyes. I just don't know if I can get over the actual condition of the Solomon Optical space.

The interior is clean, warm, and inviting! They have water, tea, cookies, and other treats to enjoy while you wait for your appointment or shop around for new frames. The staff have always been tremendously friendly and helpful. They have quite a large frame selection from well-known and local designers. You're sure to find a diamond in the rough at this spot! Dr. Baars is a wonderful doctor. He is friendly, explains everything, and makes sure you get what you need. It's also never too difficult to get an appointment, which is appreciated. In fact, Uptown Vision's prices beat almost everyone in the Twin Cities. Becca, the manager, is a fashion maven who knows what's in style and what fits your face. I am too particular, especially about tints, and Uptown Vision carefully reviews my color choices and shading percentages. Their frame selection is au courant, and they offer Blackfin, Masunaga, Andy Wolf, Maui Jim, and Dita, amongst others. Their optometrist is empathetic, listens, and thorough, plus Uptown Vision accepts most insurance policies. Trust me, it's the way to go in the Twin Cities.
