I picked up a Chantilly cake from the bakery at Uptown Grocery Co. on May and it ended up being perfect for a last minute celebration. Their bakery is award winning and they usually have fresh cakes ready to grab when you need something quickly. This one was for a friend whose birthday is two days before Valentine's Day, so most custom bakers were already booked. Custom cakes are really popular right now, but this worked out just as well and saved a lot of stress. To make it a little more decorative, I also picked up some of their individual chocolate covered strawberries from the bakery. They paired perfectly with the cake and made everything feel more special. The total came out to about $60 for the cake and strawberries, which felt very reasonable for the quality and convenience. If you need a good cake in a pinch, their bakery is definitely worth checking out. read more

I ordered a cake over the phone as I always do but this time it was not right. It was round instead of heart shaped the spelling on the name was wrong. It was smaller than I thought it was going to be. I have not tasted it yet so hopefully it was made right on the inside. They have some very pretty cakes and desserts and it always smells nice. Refused entrance - I arrived at 8:55 PM, walking up to the door at 8:56 PM the attendant named Ricky N. stopped me, arms crossed the doors, he said they were closed. I said, there's one thing right inside the front door I need to grab very quickly and I'll be out I don't need to shop at all I promise. He got angry and said "no it's after 9 PM" I said "it's before 9pm, and there are still customers" He said "not by my watch". I showed him my phone, clearly showing 8:56 PM and said one last thing; "this is the time on everyone's phones, coming from the national clock, believe". In response I was highly offended by him stating bluntly and in clear anger shouting "too bad and sorry about your luck i don't care, we're still closed!". That was entirely unnecessary, Mr. Ricky N. I couldn't wait to get into this store that I haven't been able to go to since I moved south! I immediately went to the bakery to buy something - anything because it was always so good. Well something has changed and it's not for the good. Bought one piece of carrot cake and one piece of black forest cake and they were so hard, the fork glanced off the cake as I tried to take a bite. The cake was hard, dry and got thrown away!! So I'm throwing away two pieces of cake that should have been wonderful - yet only hard as a rock. Guess they were days old instead of freshly baked. Too bad - won't be going back there. read more

I'm always impressed with the selection of Uptown Grocery. They are a true full service grocery store, though I never remember they make custom cakes, fill helium balloons and offer half a dozen other services. They have grab & go stations serving pizza, sushi, ice cream, for example. They offer an extensive selection of jellies, cheeses, peanut butters, salad dressings, BBQ sauces & the like which cannot be rivaled by most other local stores. That said, I feel like all the extra services and options, while amazing , aren't needed for my weekly grocery store runs and just add to the cost of the basics. Great selection, lots of novelty items, and higher prices pretty much sums up Uptown. It's a great spot to run in if you need a handful of items, or are looking for pre-made grab & go food, or need speciality grocery services. One of my favorite spots to grocery shop. I think I was missing out! I had never been for years assuming it was not as stocked as it is. It's great and looks clean. The employees were so nice when my child had an accident. He accidentally dropped apple juice. Instead of being mean they rushed to help. This is an awesome grocery store, especially for some harder to find items. The bakery offers so many delicious looking desserts, it is difficult to choose just one sometimes! The same could be said about their VAST cheese selection, except I never leave with just one type of cheese. Basically, Uptown is a cheese lover's paradise. That is my favorite thing about the store because I love to make cheese trays and try new cheeses, as well as my favorites. Ok, enough about the cheese! Uptown also offers a hot food section where you can get takeout food. If I lived or worked closer to the store, this would be a great lunch option. They also have very fresh produce, and a pretty extensive meat and deli area. All of this is in addition to all of the usual grocery store offerings. I moved to Oklahoma City in May of 2020 and I've been looking for a really great grocery store. The grocery stores in this city are really different than other places I've lived and I needed a store where I could find shallots, a variety of mushrooms and other random more "fancy" ingredients. Uptown has it all! Although they do carry all the fancier ingredients the pantry section is full of your standards. I can literally get everything on my list when I shop at Uptown. The bakery section is extensive with robust ordering options and beautiful and delicious confections. The prepared foods section reminded me of whole foods with all the options of salads, entrees and sides. I wanted to try everything! The store is really large and has such a great selection of everything you want in a grocery store! It's well maintained and has really reasonable price points. I only wish it was 5 minutes from my house instead of 30! :) read more

They have an upstairs area on the east side with a pub, and host specials every night! They have a an interesting selection of bottled and canned domestic and imported beers. They had 12oz bud light tonight for $1.50. For the food; tonight was all you can eat pasta for $8. They offered two sauces-Alfredo and marinara; two meats-meatballs and shredded chicken; and the pasta type was fettuccini. They also host taco, burger, and steak nights!! I was drawn by the aesthetics of the exterior, but found my eyes hurt when I walked inside. The front gives the whole Oklahoma, vintagely new vibe, which is quickly destroyed by the bright, poorly paired colors coating the walls. I'm sorry, there's nothing royally pleasing about royal purple and blue together. The combo really cheapened the look and my expectations. However, color scheme aside, the contents of the store are clean, organized, and appealing. I wasn't there for lunch, but I might come back for the whole-foods-esque hot bar. I also appreciate that it is locally own and run. You don't find that often anymore in a grocery store. I wish it was in a different location because I think that square mile (or two) is oversaturated by Sprouts, Homeland, Natural Grocery and one by Chick-fil-a that I can never remember the name of. read more

I had been here once before and had told her they have a great selection of hot and cold food. Particularly hot soup. I never wanted to come back in here, but I was on a time crunch. I swear I have PTSD with this store. About 2.5 years ago, I ordered a wedding cake for my daughter. I called a week before to make sure everything was ok. I felt compelled to, because the order dropped out of their system a couple times. After a very long hold, I was assured the cake would be ready. I go to pick it up. NO CAKE! It turns out they had it scheduled for the wrong month! How the heck did they tell me the week before it was on the schedule for the following weekend when it was scheduled the wrong month? I NEVER RECEIVED AN APOLOGY! When I went in the store today, I got an adrenaline rush with negative emotions. I hope to never go in their stores again. read more

I used to be a HUGE fan of Uptown. I grew up surrounded by Wegmans, typically named the top grocery chain in the US, and moving to Oklahoma was like moving to the desert in terms of grocery stores. I was pretty excited when I first found Uptown. They have a good hot food selection, great cheese counter, and good quality food. In addition, at the time, their pharmacy was fantastic. The head pharmacist was absolutely incredible and went above and beyond in many ways during my time using them as my pharmacy. Even after I moved 20 minutes away, I would still drive to Uptown to see the head pharmacist, who was truly the best. Recently, I saw that they posted on Facebook that they would be offering people a chance to volunteer "see how the store runs at Christmas and help out." Essentially, they were looking for cheap labor, and were offering people a meal to help do the work of others. In my book, if you need help, you hire it. If you can't afford to hire it, you can't afford the help. A for-profit enterprise looking for volunteers is not acceptable. I made my comments known on their Facebook page. They did respond, but made it clear that they were going to be using this free labor and my comments made no difference. Around the same time, I started noticing that I wasn't getting calls that my prescriptions were ready. The once automated reminders never came, and so I never knew if things were ready until I chased them down. I called once to find out, and was hung up on. My interactions with the pharmacy were no longer pleasant, they were merely business transactions. I then learned that my beloved pharmacist was now at another store. I immediately began the process of transferring my prescriptions. I also noticed before I left that all their prescription stuff had the Buy for Less logo, so I don't know what that means. I know they're owned by B4L, but thought they ran pretty separately. Overall, I'm disappointed. I won't be shopping there anymore. read more

Called yesterday to get a cake fora friends birthday..... was told they would have no problem doing a hello Kitty cake of which they were provided a picture. They said it was no problem.... Be there by 11. I got there at 11:05 and the cake had just come out of the oven. Needed to cool the they would create a picture and scan it on. Uh nope!! Not what I asked for!! Purchased a family pack of Riley steaks during the March meat sale. They had a funny smell and are tough as leather. Called and spoke with the manager in the meat section. He was rude and not helpful. Just because no one else complained doesn't mean something is not wrong. Sad that there is no recourse. Love shopping here since it's super clean, not crowded, and variety of groceries. I wish uptown was a little closer to me, but i do try to shop here when i can. My favorite thing here is their bakery! Love their chocolate croissant donuts. I ordered my baby shower cake from them and it ended up looking beautiful! I forgot my groceries once and when i called and asked about it, they actually put it away and i was able to swing by to pick it up. Their selections of hot foods is pretty good too. What a remarkable grocery shopping experience!!! I went to Uptown Grocery for the first time a couple of days to go and let me tell you, I have a new found love for grocery shopping. This place is huge and has so much to offer customers. From online shopping, to cooking classes, to a florist, to a deli, cheese deli, the whole nine. It has two levels and I didn't even make it to the second level. :-( There were plenty of employees around if one needed assistance. This reminds me of something that you would see in a larger city like Dallas, Houston, NYC...it's all that. It's like having Whole Foods and Crest Foods combined. You definitely get the best of both worlds. The prices seem comparable to that of a Crest Foods or Walmart Neighborhood. Interestingly enough, they say it's a part of Buy For Less but much more upscale and urban. The cashier mentioned for me to come back for a wedding cake tasting that they are holding to promote their bakery. You betcha! I believe that I have found a new place to do my grocery shopping because it's way too busy to be boring, it's an experience y'all! I've heard rave reviews about the bakery so I'll start with the positive. The bakery was pretty awesome, but it all stops there. Their meats and seafood didn't look very fresh. I ended up buying pre-packaged organic chicken. The checkout clerk didn't ring up all of my items, so I had to check out twice. Had to bag my own groceries and at the end of ringing up the rest of my items, a sacker guy yelled "YOU AREN'T DOING THAT RIGHT" and stepped in to finish bagging. Since I was bagging my own groceries, it should have been funny, but it wasn't. And the icing on the cake was I got home, and realized that he'd failed to put my $12 organic chicken breast in my cart. Had the grill fired up and no bird and a hungry husband. I called to share my first experience with management and held 15 minutes to speak with an Asst Mgr Jim. He was not apologetic, but had a whole slew of excuses versus addressing the individual infractions. He said next time I come in tell them I talked to him and I can get the chicken replaced. Hey Jim - there won't be a next time. I'll stick with my beloved Sprouts and Whole Foods. There are too many other great grocers to suffer through that again. read more

I love their Beef from Peach Tree Farms. It's excellent. Their seafood section is also excellent. They have a very nice cheese counter. And fish I can buy at Trader Joe's and Winco. I am disappointed in the cake department. Today 10/18/2021 is my wifes birthday. For months she asked for Lemon cup cakes and German Chocolate cup cakes with whipped icing on it. I called to find out if my order did not go through as I asked. But I did get confirmed by an employee it clearly states the exact cup cakes i ordered was in their system. But still I got regular chocolate up cakes and they can't fix it the same day. So the birthday was ruined due to the cake. WTF UPTOWN???? SO disappointed. Can you guys actually train your employees before they obliterate a cake? I asked the girl at the bakery if I could get a cake decorated, and she said "Yeah??" As if I just asked a stupid question. I handed her the cake I wanted and she said "orange or pink?" I didn't hear her because she was looking down as she asked it, because we don't make eye contact in 2020. I begged my pardon and she repeated herself.
