I went here when I first moved to Uptown and when I went up to the counter with a handle of Captain Morgan and New Amsterdam they rung up as $80. If you go to Total Wine down the road it's roughly $40 for both of these. On top of that after I payed, the person at the register flipped the screen around which presented me with a tip option. I took the bottles off the shelf myself and brought them to the register, what am I tipping for? read more

I shop at this store every time I visit my daughter in Dallas. We like having a nice bottle of wine for our visit and this liquor store has a really good selection of wines. When my husband joins me we'll also buy some cold beer and there is a very nice selection of Texas breweries (the good ones!) represented in addition to the Corona's, Hienekin's, etc. Nice and cold. I don't buy a lot of liquor but the displays and variety is really nice. Okay. I do like Maker's Mark. My daughter and her friends go there -- it's their "go to" place good tiquila, vodka (of course, Tito's -- shout out to my Austin peeps), mixers. Oh, one time we mentioned to the owner, Saul, super nice guy and knowledgeable, that I was a Bloody Mary snob. I like having really good vodka with as close to a homemade tomato mixer as I can find. (I used to bartend "down the shore" in NJ and on Sundays we made Bloody Mary's from scratch -- so I like a good mixer.) Saul has a brand, can't recall what it was, but it was the best I have ever tried. Since I don't drink much, when I do, I want the best. This guy has the best. He even found a second brand of mixer that is supposed to rival the first one and he ordered it just for the next time we went in to buy some. This is what customer service is all about. Getting to know your customer, know their likes and dislikes and catering to the customer. My daughter has said that he also does specialty orders -- if he doesn't carry it, the next time you go he'll have it for you. The store itself is clean. That's a big deal to me. I like shopping local and at independent stores and restaurants. But I won't return if a place is dirty. This place is clean and boy do I appreciate that. BTW, he also has really nice gift baskets for last minute Christmas and Holiday gifts. Highly recommend. I think we need to go up to Dallas again and visit with my daughter! read more

I rarely write reviews, especially wouldn't write one for a liquor store, but I genuinely felt this place deserved one. Right when we walked in, Saul greeted us with a smile and a friendly hello. Not to mention he had the cutest, most chill dog in the entire world laying right at the front. We asked for a couple recommendations and he immediately had two or three options off the top of his head and then he proceeded to offer us a taste of vodka, which was actually very tasty. They were out of limes, so he said we could grab some lemmons on the house and also threw in a few pocket shots for free. I just got off the phone with Sal, the owner of Uptown Liquors who absolutely helped me so much putting a present together. I needed a thank you present, I wanted a nice bottle of champagne. I do not live in Texas so I was doing this from out-of-state. Sal made a wonderful suggestion, Veuve Cliquot Rose. I emailed him a note I wanted included , he had it hand written, chose a fun gift bag and he will have it delivered tomorrow morning cold.
