Even though the prices are good, staff are very rude. I asked if some items were halal or not because I've been to other Arab stores where they sell non halal food. The cashier said "this is an Arab/muslim store so everything is halal" clearly not because they sell slim Jim's which have pork and some items didn't have a nutritional label so I couldn't verify if they had gelatin or not. It was my first time there in a while and left feeling disappointed. Would not recommend. read more

A convenience store that sells grocery items and a restaurant connected to this establishment that sells breakfast, sandwiches, and Latin staples. When i arrived there this morning, there was one aisle that still have items that are yet to be stocked. There were a few deals, but nothing amazing that calls out to me that screams buy me! I ended up buying nothing. Good to know though, when I do work odd hours that this place is supposedly open 24 hours. Located on the corner and across the street of McDonald's, there is meter parking available. Sonic is also beside Mcdonald's. Police surveillance box on top of traffic light. read more

I was really enjoying this place until today June 22, 2020 10:02 a.m. ( have the receipt to prove this). The reason why I would stop here is because I am a CTA bus operator and it is hard to find decent food for lunch and this place has a really good turkey ham sandwich and wrap. So today as I was in the checkout line I greated the female cashier with a "good morning " and she responded the same, she then to speak to the male cashier at the counter in Spanish. Now my college Spainish 1 and 2 class had failed me for most of their conversation but it turns out I didn't need the teachings because the word that popped out of her mouth i had learned outside of the education I received! She used the term "mayate" ! And for those who know what that means you could imagine my reaction, and for those of you who don't know this translates as the N-word! Needless to say I won't be back! read more

the staff preparing the grab-n-go food almost never has their mask on properly but today I saw the shorter man eating while standing over the flat top preparing food. I've seen the staff handling food without gloves. touching their face and then touching the food. its bad enough the rest of the staff doesn't wear their mask properly but when preparing food its just disgusting. read more

I'm incredibly thankful for this little place. Sure, it doesn't have everything that Jewell or Marianno's carries but it's got enough fresh food that you can whip up a meal quickly and inexpensively. The produce is fresh and a great variety. The employees clearly take care of the store, and that includes not tolerating a lot of the typical Uptown BS. The little deli attached does a great job and offers huge portions. There are times I wished they could sell liquor and other times i'm thankful that they can't. Most of my run ins with hood trash seem to be people trying to buy a single menthol cigarette with a hand full of nasty change and little bit of small pox. read more

I bought a steak dinner today and the rice tasted like old cooking oil which left a film on my lips. Also the rice was somewhat undercooked it seemed. There were little burnt pieces of something inside plus a small piece of paper towel. Would probably not buy this again, but might buy grocery products. read more

As far as markets go, this one isn't the cleanest. The workers here are also not the friendliest. However, the price for groceries can't really be beat. There's also a deli that offers anything from tacos to omelettes for about $6. Very convenient if you live in the Sheridan Plaza Apartments! read more

i remember seeing this place back in december, with a shattered front door and cardboard lining the glass windows. i thought, "there's no way this is going to be successful. it barely looks inviting." apparently, management got the hint as well and revamped this place big time in the course of several months. the front doors are fixed, the cardboard is (mostly) gone, the shelves are stocked, the cafe connecting the store to the sheridan plaza apartments is open and quaint, and there's new fancy signage marking its renaissance. very impressive. truth be told, uptown shop & save is easily the best convenience store in this somewhat seedy area. there are plenty of international pantry staples, freezers full of ice cream, healthy and less-healthy frozen dinners, household products, and even produce and meat. i still can't *quite* bring myself to purchase meat here, as it doesn't look so pleasant, but the produce is pretty fresh! i also appreciate the cleanliness of this shop. compared with the target in uptown, the prices are a touch higher, but again, there's the convenience factor. the staff is pleasant and it's refreshing to meet an owner who is looking towards progression in this area. read more

Love the fact that the owners are usually around to help and make sure customers are satisfied and the employees are friendly. The cafe is a nice spot to get a sandwich or hot meal with some coffee. $26 for a weeks worth of groceries!!! This place is great. It's a mom and pop style grocery store but it has everything you need to make meals at home. I got ingredients for fajitas, spaghetti, fried fish, fruit and a few snacks for $26. I had to check my receipt to make sure she didn't forget to ring something up. The same groceries would have cost double closer to where I live. Very very lucky if you live near this grocery store!! read more

This store has been here in this place for quite some time. recently it has been remodeled and is much more appealing. There is new signage on the outside as well. There is a small deli and they serve subs and a variety of hot foods. Each day they have specials and the prices are very reasonable. Coffee is also available. The groceries they offer cater to the many different cultures found in the area. All in all a good experience. Love the fact that they are open 24 hours. read more

I went here again after not coming here for a very long time.Today,I wanted something sweet like a big chocolate chip cookie.Instead,I decided to get a Moonpie.If you're from the hood,you know what I am talking about.The chocolate flavored one I had had an old,stale date on it.I brought it to one of the female cashiers at the front counter.Neither one of them said "Thank You" for exposing the almost one month ago stale date on it.The male employee that found out about this didn't say thank you at all either.He just gave me another one with a fresh date on it.The customer service here could've easily became decent maybe at least if just one of them would've said "Thank You".The same male employee at least had sense enough to check and see if the rest of the Moonpies had stale dates on them.The female cashiers did speak to me also at least. read more

I tried. I've shopped here maybe twelve or fifteen times. I wanted this place to succeed because it's close to home, has "normal" prices (more like supermarket than a convenience store), and because Uptown residents deserve a grocery store that stocks real food --not just Frito-Lay and popsicles and Lotto. Unfortunately, the quality's just not here. A lack of freshness is chronic: Wilted lettuce. Slimy cilantro. Rock-hard bread. Packaged deli items that expired yesterday (and this assumes the printed dates were accurate in the first place). I'm not saying that every perishable item will be wilted or spoiled (and there's some OK produce and great pico de gallo WHEN IT'S FRESH) but I AM saying that shopping at Uptown Shop & Save has, in my experience, called for a vigilance I have not found necessary when shopping at the (comparably priced, if not cheaper) Jewel four blocks South. Despite its promising re-model last year, Uptown Shop & Save remains, in my experience, a store that doesn't seem to care about its customers and doesn't expect its customers to notice if the hamburger meat is gray and waterlogged (--yes, waterlogged. As though somebody added water to it) or that the cheese sometimes has a 5-o-clock shadow. Proceed with caution, or, to Jewel. read more

Cheap but you get what you pay for. The produce wouldn't have kept overnight. But $1 for a pint of raspberries doesn't suck!
