I called the office and spoke to Megan. I told her I needed service on the Generac. She had a technician come out first thing this morning! When the technician, Butch arrived, he was knowledgeable and friendly. His work is thorough and precise. He suggested the gap coverage and called the office from his phone so I could speak to Megan. She answered my questions and sent via email the contract to sign. She also looked up when our warranty expires. It would be refreshing if everyone conducted their business in this manner! read more

We had Urban Design come our and service our Cummings standby generator on my Mom's house. Butch showed up on time looking Professional and Friendly. Since we had not had a generator before, Butch to the time to instruct us on how it works, how it does everything automatically when the power goes out and he even programmed the exercise mode for us. Total ripoff for plumbing services. $99 "callout fee" plus $529 for a 90 minute storm drain roto rooting. About $400 an hour,,,,,quite a profit margin! Urban Design rip off. They sold us a Generac backup system for our whole house and solar.  My advice is to find another company unless you want to pay more. We feel we were horribly taken advantage of, here is our story. Right from the beginning they were deceptive about the rebate we were going to receive. BEWARE ... your rebate does not come in all at once it dribbles in over the next couple of years so as to keep your payments the same for the life of the loan your rebate must be sent to the finance company (which they picked for us) one year later or your monthly payments will go up. Our rebate was $10,000 where in the ... are we going to get that kind of money (retired) at once. After about a year we had a little incident which damaged the outer case only of the Generac. They charged us $4000 to replace the case, I thought... you can almost buy another system for that price. After we put half down I then began to look into the real cost by getting quotes founding out ( I called the manufacture ) the case should have only cost anywhere from $900 to $1000 the most, they charged $2665 and labor anywhere from $50-$100 per hour. They spent 5 maybe 6 hours the most, giving them the highest price for labor would be $600 they charged $1080, two other parts costing $63. When starting the repair they discovered a crack in a hose so they went to order it and wanted to charge for a service call on something THEY missed. Upon having to pay the balance we asked why so High and they said there were a bunch of other parts???? and did not have a list to give us only excuses.  RIPPING People Off. read more

I'm in the middle of getting solar panels during this super hectic time of NEM2 pricing going to the more expensive NEM3. Every Urban designs representative have been amazing, super cooperative and patient with my repeated phone calls and emails. Their pricing was fair, gave me the perfect design location of the panels. The site walk employee was on my roof for an hour in absolute pouring rain and still had a smile on his face when he finished. Once I had the employee's cell phone numbers communication was perfect... their generic phone number system is annoying using a third party that asks so many questions every time you call - they are being slammed with business so I'll cut them so slack here! The Urban Design install techs; Alex, Carl, Donovan & Trent, along with electricians Josh and Elio, just wrapped up the install at our house in Paradise. We had solar panels put on the roof, control equipment and new electrical panels on the side, and batteries in the garage. They did a fantastic job! They all arrived on time, got right to work, did a great job on installing everything, and cleaned up all the job debris. Natalie worked with us to review our energy usage, compare system options, get the contract set up, and took the lead on getting our rebate paperwork completed and submitted. Sara, the PM, kept us up to date on what was happening and made sure everything moved along without any snags. Brandon did the site survey and went over options for where to put each piece of equipment. Everyone conducted themselves very professionally. We hired Urban Design Solar to put a large solar system on our building in Chico, California, Skyway Tool Center. We have good sun exposure and had been paying enormous electric bills for years - from $800 to $1600 per month - until we had the solar system installed in 2015. We took bids from quite a few solar installation companies in the Chico area, but after studying it we decided to go with Urban Design Solar. They came out immediately and put up the system quickly and efficiently. They made no mistakes in the entire install and put up a system that we LOVE. This is for anyone looking for a plumber. This company has technicians that are not trained to replace a thermal coupler in a hot water heater. My tech looked at my heater took a picture and went to truck for 30mins to review a You tube video. When he saw that I saw what he was doing . He said " man to man I don't really know how to replace this part so I review videos to figure it out. He didn't bring parts to fix it even thoughi told them what was not working. After fumbling with the heater for two hours with parts that weren't made for this heater he sealed it up with my old parts and then tried to light the pilot. He had me contractually sign for it to repair for 175 dollars. Then told me to get a part and FIX IT myself. WoW. read more

They have great customer service until something goes wrong. (The ladies handling customer service were wonderful every time I spoke with them.) I thought they were supposed to be monitoring my system according to what they told me in the sales call when I purchased the system. After having a month of not producing any energy, I had to catch it. And then it took two weeks for the right person to call me back. When I tried to clarify to see why they had not caught this issue. They told me "well we have way too many customers to be monitoring your system. You wouldn't expect your car dealer to know when your car needs an oil change!!" But I would expect them to know if a major malfunction like not producing energy were to occur. In fact, two weeks ago prior to me calling my wife noticed one of their employees on the side of our house, unannounced, doing something with our system. But not even the owner, Sean, knows what that person is doing there or why. Only that that person has "move on" and no longer works there.They acted like I was ridiculous for even considering that they might be monitoring the system that they told me that they were going to be monitoring. Then they confused me by sending a person out to randomly troubleshoot two weeks ago... How did they know something was wrong if they didn't have the ability to monitor it? Why don't they tell the customers when one of their employees are coming out to come on my property? Why don't they know what that person was doing? I understand that stuff happens and nothing is perfect. But the attitude I got from the person who turned out to be the owner is unacceptable! Tens of thousands of dollars spent $$$ and this is how the owner treats their customers. Just beware. Lots of good companies out there but this one is not what it appears to be. Our solar experience was horrible until we got referred to Urban Design. We were over-promised by several companies that eventually could not deliver. Urban Design was able to come up with a sensible solution to our property's very unique challange. Clear, realistic expectations were conveyed to us and then they over delivered on their promises. Our ground mount was built in the wettest part of winter with no damage to our grounds. The workers were respectful, professional, and informative. The owner himself was even accessible throughout the entire process and the job finished under the already extremely competative quote. Glad we ended up with these guys as we now have a fantastic solar array on our property. Just a few months after completion, one of the panels was destroyed by a flying rock. It is a great pleasure to review Urban Solar Design. We interviewed 3 other companies before meeting Sean McCreary, Owner of Urban Solar Design. First of all, Sean was the first and only one to actually get on our roof and do proper measurements and assure our roof was in proper shape to accept solar panels. He spent an inordinate amount of time explaining the process of solar energy production, what we could expect, how it would affect our monthly/yearly bills, his background and experience as well as his crews, how they operate and how long the installation process would take, including getting permits (which they do for you), and how the warranties work. By the time he left, we had a clear path to make our decision. There was no question, that Sean truly knows what he is doing and his 25 years of experience spoke volumes. I must add, there was no pressure to sign contracts from him as well. We then started working with his assistant, Max Duran, who helped us through the contract process, scheduling and was there for us throughout the entire process and installation. Max is one incredibly efficient guy who is on top of everything. Since we are new to solar, we had a multitude of questions, all of which Max graciously answered each and every time. When the day came to install our system, we had the pleasure of meeting the crew. Chad was the lead of the crew and could not have been more gracious with all of our questions. Always a smile on his face and nothing we asked was too much. In fact the entire crew was incredible. They were neat, clean with perfect manners and their work was totally professional. It truly was a pleasure to have them working on our house. Once the work was done and we received our approval to operate from PG&E, Dave came by immediately to do the finishing touches to connect to our internet and Max was here with our owners manual and a training session to explain how to monitor our system. Additional support was also given graciously by Natalie in the office, who kept us informed and updated on Town approvals, timelines of work, PGE inspections and more questions we may have had. Where do I start? This is my second solar project I have purchased for my second home. I used Sun Power (Alternative Energy Solutions) for my first house. At the time they did a great job and were the most competitive. This time I needed something bigger, more complex, and needed to have it come in under a certain budget. Long story short I shopped 4 different companies and it came down to AES and Urban Design. I have to say Urban Design was awesome! AES felt like they were pressuring me though to buy something I didn't need or their product was not represented accurately. (Ex our panels are better than theirs..... uh no that's not true). Urban Design matched everyone's prices and promises beating all the competitors as far as price, solar performance, and follow up on warranty. We are very pleased with the final project.
