I explained my situation to Bill and he took care of it and charged what I felt was extremely reasonable and he didn't charge to drive the 20 miles from Chico to Orland. I would like to update my review. As it turns out Story Heating never tightened the valve connection to the gas in my heater and I had gas gushing through my vents into my house. I called them and they weren't willing to back up their work nor were they willing to come out and turn off the gas unless I was willing to pay them. PG&E came out within 30 minutes of calling them, turned off the gas, and wrote up a report about dangerous situation Story heating had left my heater in. I plan to report them to the contractors board as what he and his employee did was extremely dangerous and I wouldn't want anyone to have to experience the danger they exposed my family and I too. read more

Outstanding. Have used them twice, both times fast response and great service. He took the time to investigate the problem and determine the cause. Was able to repair a small motor cooling fan blade that had come loose and was binding the heater fan motor. Saved me a lot of money by not taking the easy path of replacing the entire fan assembly. Bill and Jesse did a wonderful, timely install of a new, energy- efficient, QUIET HVAC system and completely reworked and sealed the duct system. What a difference! Our old system was very inefficient, noisy and leaking heat out under the house. They were almost finished and waiting for the County inspection when the Camp Fire struck. Luckily, our home and new system made it through. Because it had never been turned on, the system was clean and uncontaminated by the smoke & ash. We highly recommend Bill and his team. Based on all the five star reviews, I called Story Heating and Air to look at my heat pump which wasn't working properly. Terri was very friendly and knowledgeable and set up an appointment right away. Bill arrived on time and was very thorough with his assessment and repair. He discussed the problem with me and made several suggestions. He explained that the one year old thermostat, that I had installed by someone else, was in fact properly installed but that the unit itself had gone bad. He tried calling Honeywell's customer service to see if they had suggestions or recommendations about their defective product; however, their customer service department wasn't open, and because it was cold, we decided to have Bill install a new thermostat. Within a very short time he got the heat pump working properly again. I would recommend Story Heating and Air to anyone looking for a professional, efficient and cost effective solution. Bill is extremely competent in his line of work. He replaced my furnace and most of my duct work located in the crawl space under my house. He also relocated/reconnected my AC unit. I do not live in the Chico area but knew about the quality of his work by word of mouth. Bill made the trip during the weekends to work on this project. Over the past 30 years I started doing more of my own construction mainly because I often found myself disappointed with the quality of work done by the construction industry in general. That also included prior work done on my HVAC system in which some of it was sloppy and subpar at best. This work was part of a larger basement project I was engaged in under the house where I had the opportunity to observe Bill work as he took down some of the existing duct work. Most of the prior duct work just fell off the sheet metal fittings. He pays great attention to detail and takes pride in the quality of his work. Bill has a very professional demeanor, a great attitude and work ethic. He also took the time to explain in detail what he was proposing to do and why.
