I just had my 25+ year old single stage unit upgraded to a new modular unit that came with a nice New sleek smart thermostat. I also had two supply registers and one return address which were very much needed. The crew of three were very fast and friendly and left their areas cleaner than when they did the work not to mention they did great work. I got three quotes and Bob's had the lowest price, best equipment (in my opinion) and are also locally owned/operate. Our AC was not working so we called Bob's to come diagnose the problem. While they did come 4 hours late (which is why its 4 not 5 stars) our technician Luke was wonderful. I'm New to Chico and my air conditioner Wouldn't turn on so I called Bob's air repair and they sent out a gentleman named Scott who was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and honest. He located the problem. I have an older unit and instead of trying to sell me a whole new unit he replaced the panel that was shorting out and made sure everything else was working and it was up and running three days, we had to order the panel, I am pleased with his service and Bob's air repair was very professional as well. Have had Bob's Air Repair several times for seasonal tune-ups and a problem with the furnace. Every time I was able to get an appointment that day or the next. Twice my Furnace quit and their technician had it going in no time. Then the next fall season the same problem happened. Had the same technician who remembered me and knew I had a problem and took a closer look and found the problem. He was able to get the parts and repair it. Every step of the way he was courteous and patient explaining all to me and gave me an idea of the cost. Very satisfied. Received an itemized statement of the parts and labor. Got my ducts cleaned this summer. It was expensive so not sure about the great value here but it was $200 less than other places I called. When it was done there was a rattle that I noticed happened every time the air came on. They made time to stop by and fix it for me the same day I call to complain. Had an agent dropped by for diagnostics, his name was Scott, who seemed very annoyed and irritated when asked to take off his shoes, or wear shoe covers inside the house. My house is new, and I spend a great time making sure it stays clean, and he did not wish to honor my request. He was very rude and unprofessional. Jessica, the phone rep on the other hand, was very sweet. I have these guys for all my A/C and heating needs. They come on the same day you call when there is an emergency and they work fast. Last year my A/C died when it was 104 outside and I panicked. Do not trust this company! Mid winter the furnace went out at a time that both myself and mother were very ill. My mother ended up having to go to the hospital for a week. I called Bob's Air Repair. I paid $109.00 just to learn that my unit was not fixable. The so called repair guy turned into a sales representative convincing me I needed an entirely new unit costing $13,000 to $20,000. I called another company who fixed the unit for $200. i learned that everything I was told by Bob's Air Repair was a lie And I had to pay $109 for the lies and sales scam. read more

Terrible customer service. "Inspected" our new homes heating and air before we bought our house and both were completely broken the day we moved in. The units both never turned on and he charged us for the inspection that I'm am sure he never even looked at. Also, the owner has no professionalism. One of my A/C units was barely keeping cool during a heat wave and I had guests in there so I was pretty desperate. I called several places, Bob's was the most responsive. Scott showed up same day and thoroughly diagnosed and cleaned the unit (lots of dirt buildup) he explained that it was generally in good condition. By getting a second opinion, I saved over $800 and only needed a cleaning of the heat sensor on my furnace and not a whole new control board. I would not recommend Bob's Heating & Air for this reason. I felt very pressured into agreeing to an $800 repair and believe Bob's scare tactics and overall condescending attitude are unethical. I should have read the previous Yelp reviews as this isn't the first time Bob's Heating & Repair has tried to squeeze customers by doing unnecessary and expensive repairs for no reason. read more

My first experience with Bob's was approximately 2 1/2 years ago. It was a routine service check. The repair man informed me that I needed to replace a part ($250.00). I said no. I got two second opinions from other companies and learned that my a/c was in good working condition. Today my a/c is still in good working condition. My second experience with Bob's was the day after Christmas. It was winter and it was very cold. My mother's thermostat broke. I tried to avoid calling Bob's but they were the only company I could get quickly. Bob's charged an extra $100.00 to diagnose the problem. They didn't have to diagnose the problem. I told them what the problem was. A broken thermostat. In the past a company would come to your home, diagnose the problem, and give you a free estimate. I guess those days are gone. My opinion? Bob's took advantage of an 83 year old woman who lives on social security. They never told us up front that there would be an additional fee to diagnose the problem. They took advantage of the fact that my elderly mother was sitting in a cold house and needed immediate help. It cost her approximately $400.00 to have a new thermostat installed. I later learned that I could have purchased that same thermostat at Home Depot for approximately $85.00. People. If it is not an immediate emergency. Get a second opinion. read more

I called AirArt and was told there was no part shortage but I did need anything at all, as my unit was working as it should. I'm sure glad I called for a second opinion. During the July heat our cooler broke, Everyone was busy and couldn't make it out to help. I called Bobs Air Repair and they quickly made it over, when inspecting our air conditioner motor he found that the outlet it was hooked up to was shorting out and he quickly unhooked it. He showed us the outlet, it was completely black it could've caught on fire and we wouldn't have known. As Campfire survivors we are especially great full for that. They then told us what was wrong, what needed to be done and gave us an estimate. They were kind, quick, efficient, honest and made things a lot easier. read more

It hit 102 today so we were worried we were going to lose our air conditioner for a few days but Husband found Bob's Air Repair in Chico and they came out the next day found the problem within a very short time, showed me the defective part, explained its purpose, how it effected our system...you get it David made sure I understood what was going on then when I asked him to make the repair he completed his taste quickly. Our furnace stopped working as soon as it got cold last week. New furnaces now are great because they give you a clear to read code. After reading the code I knew it was a pressure switch. My unit has 2 so I figured I would by both just to be safe, at about $25-50 each, depending on where you buy it. I tried Amazon and other sources but it was going to take 5-8 days so I called local. None of the HVAC suppliers locally would sell to me because I'm not an HVAC contractor. So I thought I would try a local repair shop because the parts are cheap and it literally takes about 30 seconds to remove them (1 screw and 1 hose) and I hoped they would try and source it locally and get this fixed quickly. So I called Bob's and they came that morning, so they were quick. They charged $89 to read the same code I did, which is fine because they should be paid for their time. They then told me it would be 2-4 days for the part. They came Wednesday mid-day and it was Monday when they called with the part. I don't think they even tried to find it locally, which is super frustrating. They certainly didn't say they tried, just said they had to order it from the factory or dealer, something like that. So they came back with the part Monday and charged me $25 shipping, and $360 for the parts and labor. Remember the parts were about a total of $50-$75. It took them literally 15 minutes, and frankly it would take longer to walk into the house and up the stairs to the attic than to replace the part. It's really that simple. No special tools, no special expertise needed to read the code. So a total of about $470 for about 15 minutes of work and $50 in parts. What a crime. I'll give them props for being friendly and coming quickly but absolutely insane pricing! Never again. They should be ashamed. I should have read the reviews first instead of calling the first company that I found. read more

I too wish I had read a few Yelp reviews. I am thankful they came out to service my AC condensing unit today. At a price of course... Which I understand, that is how service company's make their money. But here are my peeves: The tech was constantly on the phone with Bob trying to diagnose the problem. When I asked the tech about this, he said, " That's how Bob wants it-so no mistakes are made." I find that puzzling. After all, isn't the tech supposed to know what he's doing? But my biggest peeve.... If Bob's Air Repair is going to state on their ads, "Veteran Owned", wouldn't you think that a Veteran owned business offer other veterans some sort of discount? It doesn't have to be much, but you're telling everyone you're a Veteran owned business to take advantage of our country's current "Veteran friendly" environment to help line your coffers but to not reciprocate the same way is in my opinion morally wrong. So Bob, I would drop the Veteran Owned disclaimer unless you're willing to pass something along to fellow Veterans... read more

If I could give no stars I would. I called to check when our part would be in to fix our a/c and their answer was simply "I don't know" when I asked her what she meant by "I don't know" she got an attitude with me and told me that's the answer she had. When I told her I didn't need an attitude she handed me to the other office lady who then told me that they didn't need to speak with me because I'm a tenant and not home owner. I asked for a simple timeline of when to expect them and in return they hung up on me and canceled coming out. I've never in the history of buying anything have been told I DONT KNOW when it will come in. Could it be days, hours, weeks? Idk because they don't know. read more

Efficient, affordable, and knowledgeable. Bob's Air Repair is a life saver. Our A/C stopped working in the middle of summer when it was over 108 degrees out. I called them, after hours, in a panic, they showed up and fixed our a/c. They also pointed out a few things that needed repaired. I have used them twice after for tune-ups and they just located some burnt wires that were sure to result in a break down of my system. They are very courteous, efficient, and timely. Bob's motto is fix it right the first time. They came out once, did not fix. They put in a new thermostat even though i told them mine was brand new.hmm. Then John said 'for a $120. cash i will do a tune -up that will get you heating again. It did not work. I started leaving messages for John he would not call me back. This going on for months. I started talking to Dave in the office. He would not call me back. Bob called me full of attitude and insults. This is 2 years of back and forth. Today my heater is fixed. OWNER lacks customer service skills I had Bob's Air Repair come out to my rental house in Gridley back in April 25, 2018, I was having some difficulty with the A/C unit. I had some work done, but was not given a full quote on the price. I was shocked at my $927 repair bill, when I called the company and asked for an invoice. I was put on the phone with the owner of the company. We discussed the invoice and after some back and forth arguing with the owner about not knowing the full price of the repair I quickly hung up. (I hung up because he said that he had given me an estimate, but I remembering him telling me that he had to check the price of the part before he could tell me. I was expecting a bill around $600-$700, so the $927 was a shocker. He also said he has his co-worker that would confirm what he told me). He called me right back and said he like to make an appointment to pull out the repair that he had done. Who does that in this day and age? VERY IMMATURE!!!!! If you use this company make them give you an estimate before your schedule the work, as is expected under California State Law! I just signed on YELP today, so that is why there is a delay between the date of service and my YELP posting. read more

One word to describe Bob's Air Repair - disappointed. They left me with construction repairs to do on my own....a new baseboard, repairing two very large holes in my living room wall which now will also require I repaint. I will never have Bob's Air Repair in our home. They gave me back some money (10% off visits) - but that will never cover the costs I now have to continue fixing my air conditioning unit and the construction to fix the damage they left behind. Bad service. They just don't understand. Charge way too much, too. I just got a quote for the same service from another licensed contractor....saving 50% to 75% of what Bob's Air Repair charged.
