Natural features include steep bluffs, flood-plain hardwood forest, spring-fed wetland, and a restored prairie. Visitors to this urban nature center can explore five different habitats interconnected by a trail system. The public is welcome to utilize the facility and the well-marked ¾ mile self-guided nature trail in the evenings or on weekends (the lower trail is mostly blacktopped and ADA accessible). Many seasonal programs are offered on the weekends. Trails are designated for hiking only. Hikers are reminded to leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but memories, and watch for wildlife. Hawthorn Glen is home to deer, foxes, raccoons, opossum, rabbits, chipmunks, woodchucks, two species of hawks, many migratory birds, and songbirds of all kinds year-round. If you're just up for a short, beautiful hike, I recommend going here. You will not feel like you are in the middle of the city. It is beautiful, and we had an incredible hike! It would be a beautiful place to have a picnic, or bring your kids as they have children's playgrounds and the educational center. They even have goose ducks and a few animals that you can go look at.

Such a bummer yesterday 10/11! The week before we went to scout out good spots in the park for a…read morephotoshoot. When we arrived make up/hair/outfits ready to go on Sat the park was closed for a private event! Now we looked it up and this private event was being advertised but not in such a way that gave ANY impression that the park would be otherwise shutdown!! They should have posted additional signs to note that the park would be closed. We couldn't even get tickets to the event day of since we would have happily paid the small fee but it was a ticket only with the one walk up time being still an hour plus away from the time it was and it seem like not a true guarantee for tickets. The only reason for any stars for this experience is to combine it with the visit from the week prior to when we actually got to get into the park - the trails are nice and there are so many great area for photos!

The paths are soft and there are some nice water features like small ponds. It is an urban educational park affiliated with Milwaukee Rex Department and Milwaukee Public Schools so there are educational signs with facts about nature everywhere. For families, there is a playground, too. My husband and I attended a special Holiday Lights event the Sunday before Christmas. It was geared toward families but we had fun walking the path and enjoying the lights. Very fun and only $4 each! Hot chocolate and s'mores at the end helped warm us back up. This was a great inexpensive and quick holiday outing on a Sunday night.

I haven't been here in quite a while, but I wanted to give them a shout out and say what I know…read moreabout them. I cannot do them justice since they have many programs here to help members of our community that I haven't worked with. I have volunteered here a few times when I was a student through UW-Milwaukee. I helped bag groceries to be handed out to members of the community who needed help. They work very hard to create a balanced bag nutritionally each time such as protein, breakfast items, meat/ eggs, fruits/ veg, dessert (if they have any), soup, pasta/ rice, and a few other types of items I'm forgetting. When they have fresh fruits and vegetables they place them out for people to pick from. They also let people pick out bread items. The number of bags people receive depends on family size. They also have baby food items for those who need them. I also organized personal cleaning supplies (keep the good stuff, throw out the bad/ expired, put out the smaller stuff for people to pick out for free when they came to pick up food, etc). I thought this was really nice of them to have available, many people looked through the baskets once I started filling them. The staff is very kind to those who come in needing assistance and try to help. The area I worked in was basic but clean. They treat the community members that need help with respect (I've seen orgs where they don't treat people very well, this is not one of those orgs!). Great place to help the local community and for people to receive assistance. I've only scratched the surface as to what this nonprofit does for the community, check out their website. Time/ money/ personal donations brought here are not wasted!

I went on a great walk in the hidden Mangan Woods yesterday with the wonderful folks from the…read moreMilwaukee Parks Foundation, and others from Wehr Nature Center and A Wealth of Nature. I learned a lot about trail management, erosion, and funding (like how the Parks Foundation bought chainsaw backpacks for the people who hike into the woods to clear fallen trees off of the trails). They mentioned that the Parks Department is working with the same budget dollars as they had in the 80s!!! No wonder there are so many groups and events out there that are trying to inject more dollars into our lovely park system. Become a Park Champion yourself!

I brought both of my kids to Kid-Tastic over the summer for their summer camp. They participated in…read moreseveral field trips around Milwaukee which I thought was very well planned and the kids had a blast. They loved it such much they stayed for the following school year. Kid-Tastic does a great job at keeping the kids active and they provide great learning opportunities. Highly recommend for elementary prep k3, k4 and beyond. They also have transportation with is so convenient!

I was anxious and scared when I first had to enroll my 1 yr old in daycare. I asked questions, looked for reviews and although I didn't find much, I have yet to be disappointed by this day care. My daughter cried the first two days, but by day three the familiar faces that have been kind and loving to her was just another part of her daily routine. My babies love this facility from the 11yr old to my 7 yr old Kid tastic has left a lasting impression on my babies and I am forever grateful.
