When I first started climbing at the gym, I was terrified of heights. Even getting a few feet off…read morethe ground made my heart race, and I would look down and want to come back down. I wanted to learn to climb, but my fear kept holding me back. That's when Zoe started helping me. She was patient with me and encouraged me not to give up, even when I was scared. She helped me learn to trust the ropes, focus on the next hold, and take things one step at a time. With Zoe's encouragement, I slowly started climbing higher and higher. Every time I made it a little farther, I became more confident. Eventually, I found myself reaching the top of routes I never thought I could climb. Zoe helped me realize that being afraid didn't mean I had to let that fear stop me. Because of Zoe, something that once terrified me became something I actually enjoyed. She didn't just help me learn how to climb--she helped me push past a fear I had carried with me and showed me that sometimes you just have to keep going, one step at a time.

Bouldering only gym branch of the local Ad Rock climbing gyms. This is the newest gym of the 3…read more There are no roped climbs here - just you and the wall! When my kiddo was tiny (and content to sit on the sidelines) this was a great place to go and switch off between climbing and watching the kid between my husband and I. Nowadays, kiddo wants to climb herself! Unfortunately for her, none of the walls here are really meant for small kids (which I totally get!). If you are looking for that vibe, go checkout the Brookfield gym, its great for kids! If you come here without little kids (which you probably should!), you will find yourself surrounded by varying angles of wall, from a large slabby area to a very overhung cave. Its not typically too busy when I have gone, so you will have plenty of routes to choose from.

This team has one of Milwaukee's best fan atmospheres. Van is an amazing public address announcer…read moreand in-game host. He truly knows how to help create an electric atmosphere and interact with anyone from new fans to long-time season ticket holders. The best part about the Wave is that they host autographs on the field after every game with most of the players. This team truly cares about making a memorable fan experience.

I used to love going to Wave games more when they first started out in Milwaukee, and it was fresh…read moreand new, as was the Bradley Center where they used to play. Now at UW-M Panther Arena (the old Arena, just west of BMO Harris Bradley Center), the games are high-scoring, and they try to make the games fun, it's just that with less than 1,000 people at a game- it's kind of not as thrilling as going to see a Bucks game, or even an Admirals game. My son and I went on 80's night, and the Wave crew did a great job spinning all manner of 80's music, from early breakdance hip-hop, to hair metal, to Top 40. There's lots of in between time for on-field audience activities, check their website to enter if you're going to a match! Our fave players were Bennett and Pablo (it's just 'Pablo', like Sting, Prince, Beckham...). I was happy to see a local restaurant 'the Simmer' offering healthy food for the night, and people responded by lining up for kale and black bean salads, and the like. Milwaukee sports stadiums need more of this- rent out your space to local restaurants for unique options. We really did enjoy the game, but my expectations are just lowered with more of a small market experience.

I'm a longtime YMCA member, but am new to the West Suburban YMCA…read more First of all, the YMCA's mission of helping to support a healthy mind, spirit, and body for everyone is worthy of admiration. They offer all sorts of programs for all sorts of people. When my kids were younger, I loved that the Y I went to had a child watch. The West Suburban Y has one as well! Drop your kids off for a couple hours while you get your workout in. Other things about this particular location I love: +Indoor Track. It's small (17 loops = 1 mile) but when it's freezing or roasting outside, it does the trick +Indoor pool. You can swim laps or they have water aerobics classes you can partake in +Indoor cycling! They use "Performance IQ technology." It's a little more technologically advanced than I had enjoyed at my previous Y. It's nice to get a little more detailed info about your workout! They have plenty of parking (niiice!). They don't provide towels (I think they have bath size towels but no hand size towels in the workout areas and/or indoor cycling room, so you'll want to bring your own). Their prices are super reasonable ($84/month for a household membership) and the workers are always friendly and upbeat. Get to it!
