The new Urban Fort Play just opened two weeks ago! A beautiful space with many activities, toys and equipment to keep kids entertained for hours. My grandchildren love it. There is also a coffee bar with espresso drinks, drip coffee and teas available. I also love the retail space with amazing curated lines of toys, books, games, puzzles and the softest stuffies. One of the best indoor places for kids in St. Louis! The toy store area in the front has an AMAZING selection of high quality toys, games and costumes! But the play area, designed for those under 6, is incredible! There's plenty of seating for parents and there's even booths if you need to take a phone call or get some work done. The play area has a special baby area with developmental appropriate toys, while the remaining area has gross motor toys, and lots open ended toys! read more

I wanted to update my review now that this is under new ownership, at a new location, with a new business model. This is now a cute children's store in the Foundry. They have their doors open on days with beautiful weather welcoming everyone inside. They have meaningful, educational, non-toxic options for kids from toys to dress up to books and supplies for moms. This visit I got some non-toxic nail polish for my girls. read more

Note that this establishment is now a toy store located in the Foundry. There appears to be some older pictures here on Yelp of when it was a café. This is a great place for finding gifts for young children. I came here to look for presents for nieces and nephews in the 4 to 8 year old range, and they have a ton of unique items, including books, stuffed animals, and various toys. Owner of the store was there when I visited, and she was super helpful and knowledgeable about their inventory. Prices are fair, and it is nice to be able to support a local small business. Apparently they are also planning on reopening a similar café/childrens play area in the Foundry soon. I am giving this place 5 stars. I started to do just 4...but that Turkey Panini wouldn't let me!! I love the idea of this place. Since I literally live 7 min walking distance away...I can order hot food to go or eat it there outside....which is awesome! The menu is not huge, but the items it has could compete with any First Watch or other "Foo foo" cafe! Lol! They always have really good, fresh baked good....but the chocolate chip cookie is THE BEST. And the Turkey Panini....OMG!!! #1 it was way bigger than I thought...I had to take the other half to go. But it was so savory and good!!! It came with sweet potato chips that tasted like they were homemade and again...yummy!!! I'm so glad this place is right up the street...I will probably stop by after my run when they are open!! read more

I remember when this place opened and at the time it seemed so nice. The food was good and the place was cute. I recently took a crawler and 1) there is almost nothing in the infant area, and 2) the biggest issue is that his knees and hands were totally black after moving around a little for 30 min. There is a carpet floor which may be the reason. You probably won't notice if you have a walker but the floor has to be filthy to make him that black. We scrubbed up and left. I don't think I'll be back. read more

We did take advantage of Urban Fort, and it was everything and more than we could have hoped for! My son enjoyed every minute of playing as well as their breakfast. Would 100% go again at any given time! Their staff were very helpful and were the cherry on top of a wonderful time. They had many different activities for the kiddo's to enjoy. When I say my son enjoyed his breakfast, I meant we all did. It was absolutely amazing. As well as they serve coffee, iced or hot. This place is pretty awesome. I only wish there were more places like it, or that Urban Fort had branches in various parts of the city! The ambiance is relaxing; let the kids place while the adults play! But, in all reality, you still need to keep an eye and hand on your kids because they ARE kids, after all! The play area isn't supervised by other adults. I feel that sometimes this place gets the reputation of being more of a drop-off, hands-off facility, which it is not! The lunch options were all health-conscious, tasty, and filling. But once you factor in the price of entering to play at Urban Fort, along with the to-be-expected prices of lunch, it's not a place to head for an inexpensive day out. read more

Totally enjoyed our lunch here today! Our Birthday girl 4 yr old Nora said she wanted to eat here. Snuggled into a quaint little neighborhood. Food: Mimi and I ate the Turkey club croissant. Had a Greek Aolia dressing which made the club absolutely delicious. Daughter had a Bacon and cheese Panini and small salad, which she loved. An excellent spot for kids to play while parents supervise/relax at comfortable tables or on couches. There is a cool little climbing wall, kitchen area, slide, toddler area, and a wonderful train set up to keep the kids busy for hours! The coffee is great too! I love the bottomless cup for $5. Free and fast WiFi too! Prices are fair for the drop in rate too. Although, I would recommend getting a pass of some sort as the prices are even better. This place is fun and we will be back! Pros - our kids loved it - 3 and 4 year olds. There is plenty for them to do. The setup is nice as you can sit anywhere and have a pretty good line of sight to your kiddos without moving much. My wife enjoyed the food and they have some pretty good special catered toward Millennials (Apple and Brie Sandwich lol). And of course, you can kick back for a beer or bottle of wine too. Cons - pick your time carefully, there is a waitlist and the waiting area is pretty small. Price is a little expensive but this place can get away from it. This place has SO much potential, but the safety issues keep me from going back there often. Think you can sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and have an adult conversation while your child plays safely? Nah, not unless you're one of those lucky people who has a toddler that'll just sit quietly and play at your feet. In which case, you can just go anywhere. There are multiple gates and doors that are not secure and not a single place where you can sit and not have blind spots. The first time I went the front gate was broken and didn't close or latch properly and the same goes for the gate to the baby area. They did fix those, but their party room and storage closet doors are still not secure. There are lots of things on the edge of counters that little hands can get into, and there's nothing at all stopping a child from running behind the cashier area. Now, if I just went there with one child it would be fine... but I have four kids who think every play area we go to is an escape room. Half price Wednesday is great, food and coffee is good ... they just need to very seriously childproof. read more

The woman working at the desk was very friendly and helped introduce us to the layout of the building and various playroom sections. Love it! Most importantly, my 2-year-old loves it. The train table is so cool that I have a difficult time getting him to try anything else. I love that I can get good coffee and let my child play loudly without anyone giving me dirty looks. I also LOVE that they sanitize the toys regularly throughout the day. What a great place this is. Clean and spacious with lots of tables for adults. My granddaughter told me the chocolate croissants are great!! Coffee and a climbing wall that's kid size! The owners have thought of everything that would keep a young child busy and happy - a huge train table, lots of pretend play and dress up, rock climbing wall, slide and much more...so that grown ups can meet, relax, or get work done with great coffee and baked goods, free WiFi and comfy seating. I love that there are bins all over for toys that inevitably go into toddler mouths and lots of Kleenex and hand sanitizer stations. We love Urban Fort Cafe and think it is such a cool and unique spot. We drive 30minutes across town just to go! Their recent "spruce up" is really Impressive and their food/drink menu never disappoints! I gave four stars for only one reason. Their older kid play area is not gated off and as soon as our little guy realizes it's there he is FIXATED on climbing those stairs and attempting to go down the slide - even though he isn't quite coordinated enough to do this on his own yet. This isn't a problem when my husband comes with us and can play defense or stand at the bottom of the slide (it is a very fast slide FYI), but when I try to come with just me and my son it is not a relaxing time for me. I can usually get a good 30 of play time with him in the toy area before he explores and I finds the big kid area. After that it's game over. I can't sit, order food, enjoy my coffee or anything until he wears himself out and it's time to go. I wish they would keep the big kid area separate so I don't feel like the crazy manic mom chasing her child up and down the stairs and pulling him away from the slide. read more

I wanted to love this place so much - a small space to take my little one to play when it's too hot out, and good coffee! Unfortunately the toys are all super old and gross, the outside area isn't taken care of at all, not sure they want kids to actually play there. It reminded me of a really old daycare that needed a major upgrade. It's such a good idea and I want to support this business but it really needs an upgrade on toys. There is also zero signage encouraging/reminding parents that they need to monitor their kids. I was left awkwardly telling a toddler to stop throwing things directly at me AND my kid over and over. Not the kids fault...mom sat there and enjoyed a book. Not cool. He proceeded to toss hard toys up the slide and climb up the slide while kids waited trying to go down. Mom watched and enjoyed her book...made the rest of us feel like we got to go be responsible for someone else's kid. A reminder from the owner would have been nice. read more

We live in Des Peres but received passes to UF for my sons birthday. I had been putting it off because of the distance and the flu but decided to make a visit this morning. I'm SO happy we did. We arrived early (8:15) and there was only one other boy there. The latte (lavender) and croissant (spinach and goat cheese) were delicious. My boys loved the train table, slide and climbing wall. We stayed for almost three hours and can't wait to go back. It isn't a big deal that it's a bit far away because it's so fun and we could stay for a long time.
