The BBQ was amazing (we tried baby backs, brisket, burnt ends), prices reasonable, and staff very friendly and helpful!

She took care of the entire store and restaurant all by herself. The restaurant is very tiny, but the food is delish. The restaurant was empty when I arrived at 1pm. She put on the Mexican music when I arrive. Service is fast. The owner explained the menu and provided good recommendations. I tried 4 tacos of different meat: birria, lengua, steak and carnitas. All are served with onions and lime. I love birria and lengua the most, followed by carnitas. I picked an authentic Mexican soda from their fridge. I love all the drink options available.

However in the back there's a dining area. They make tacos and tortas. After looking around a bit we found where to order at. It's got a window in the back. There's a small menu of a few authentic Mexican items and the choices of protein. Mostly it's tacos of course. These are pretty easy to make. It's $4 each. Protein choices include beef, chicken, or get beans and vegetables. Got us a couple of tacos with the beans. These were topped with cilantro and onions. Small but full of flavor. The store has drinks such as Jarritos, and you can get big ass cans of beans so you can make tacos for later. Good place to get authentic Mexican food. It's located on West Jackson Street at Illinois Avenue in a building that looks unassuming from outside. There's taqueria is located in the back, and you order at the window.

I stopped here during one of my visits to Marion. It was highly recommended to me by an elderly…read morelocal and the reviews looked good in Yelp. The place looked great, and I had high expectations. But after one visit, that was my last. Bleh! First, they had not the friendliest staff. They were all chatting with each other and not very friendly to the customer. Not very attentive to the customer either. Wth? Where is the Mexican pride and Mexican warmth?? For this alone, I give them a 1 star. 0 if I could. I was born in Mexico, so I know good Mexican food. In my opinion, the food was very TexMex. More Tex than Mex, if you catch my drift (did they get all their food from Sysco??). I found the food to be quite insipid. The salsa tasted like it came out of a can, lacking the amazing flavors that generally give Mexican food that oomf. The fajitas were nicely presented, and the meat was good, but the accompanying rice and beans were not very tasty. Come on dudes, where's the pride in the food? Where is the Mexican seasoning?? Where is the Mexican love??? I was extremely disappointed. I guess the appeal of the place is the alcohol. But as a traditionalist who loves good Mexican food, I give this place a 1 for the taste of the food. I didn't partake in alcohol since I was just driving through. The only redeeming grace of this place was the decor and ambiance. They get a 4 or a 5. So, if you factor in the 1 for service, the 1 for the food, and the 5 for decor, I give them 3 stars. It is unlikely I'll be back here again.

The menu claimed to be authentic, but the flavors didn't deliver -- honestly, I could've made this at home better but I was here for work. Hard to find the true authenticity I was expecting. Definitely not what I hoped for left food there !

So good in fact that I needed to ask, "are these made fresh?" They are and the difference is noticeable. The salsa fresca is awesome. If you're brain washed into thinking that thin flaky chips and thick pasty salsa is good, you're in for a shock. After lunch, my wife and I went back for dinner because of the chips and salsa. Other bonuses: The margaritas were good. Strong. A** kickingly strong. The food was tasty, but I don't know if it was exceptional. The service was a little slow. I wish they brought more than 2 flour tortillas per meal. Candidly, the chips and salsa are so good that everything else came in second.

It hardly is that authentic, but it's not trying to be though. Honestly it's better than it looks. The prices are kind of expensive unfortunately. Basically this is classic Mexican American food. It's got a few locations, including this one. This has the feel of a big chain to it, though. Anyway, the drinks and food are okay if not expecting much. The high prices make it hard to be satisfied. It's about $12 for a margarita. The Blue Lagoon is made with Blue Curaçao and it got us lit for sure. Food is even more expensive. It's about $15 for the Taco Salad Veggie. This comes in a crispy tortilla bowl, and is filled with broccoli, cheese dip and sour cream which I left off, guacamole, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and zucchini. Good stuff but certainly not worth the charge. The rest of the menu has typical Americanized stuff like fajitas and tacos. For sure it's not bad food. It's located on Giant City Road by University Mall. There's some things okay for vegetarians.
