Wanting some BBQ, I decided to order from this place. Wifey wanted the ribs (4) with a baked potato. I ordered the BBQ(?) pulled pork sandwich with a baked potato (with cheese). Sandwich was loaded with meat, but very greasy. The kicker was there was NO BBQ sauce whatsoever on it. Also, no cheese on the potato. Meat lacked flavor though it had that barbecue smokey taste. Wife's ribs were tasty, though it barely had BBQ sauce on them. We both ate our meals, but somewhat disappointed in the lack of sauce. I mean, if it's a BBQ joint, the sauce should be plentiful on the meats, right? The food wasn't bad, just left us wanting more. One and done for us. I didn't know what to expect, so we were a little surprised that the only BBQ available was a sandwich or ribs. They do takeout by the pound, but the menu doesn't have a plate of BBQ etc. Still we enjoyed the chopped pork sandwich. Sauces are not typical (thick) but more thin, maybe vinegar base? (Sweet, hot, or mustard) When they ask you if you want "chow," say yes or on the side. It's a slaw type topping for the sandwich, looks like a mustard base. I liked it. Pies are fresh! My family loves KB's. I love the Friday night special of the spare ribs! So delicious. Other meals my family enjoys include the catfish and the smoked chicken on Thursday nights! Service is always good and prices are reasonable. read more

Southern Illinois is full of BBQ joints so it is often hard to pick between them. KB's sits just south of the fair grounds in Marion. It is a no frills BBQ shop. You have a choice of BBQ staples and sides along with some desserts including pies (I'm always a sucker for pie). The last time I ate at KB's I got the ribs with baked beans and hushpuppies. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The rest of my family got the shredded pork sandwiches. Between the two the ribs were better but both were enjoyed. The fries my nephew got were crinkle cut fries which I generally enjoy but these were a bit underwhelming. The only other real critique I had of the restaurant is that they don't have brisket which is my personal favorite. Overall this is a basic BBQ restaurant that is a staple in the area. We have always had great service at K B BBQ. Waitress are friendly and prompt. Always get your order correct. The food is awesome. We usually get the catfish and it is hot and yummy. Hamburgers are wonderful as are the fries. My husband likes the mushrooms too. I have had their salad and it is huge..I cannot finish it and bring it home. Cant say enough good stuff about KB;s. Tried this place based on other yelp reviews. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have any brisket or turkey. Since I don't eat pork and am not crazy about fish it limited the menu a bit. I wanted catfish and was passing thru the area. Ordered 2 catfish dinners. Got home and it was the fake catfish Basa stuff. I hate that fish. No disclosure regarding not being real catfish. I assumed being south in the State of Illinois they only served the real thing. They do this swap up North all the time. Ordered steak and onion sandwich, sliced bbq sandwich, Texas potatoes, fried pickles, fried zucchini and a side mac n cheese and side of deviled eggs. $47.00 worth of food to go. Deviled eggs were gloopy unappealing, steak and onion sandwich is inedible due to the bread being nasty and hard where it's obvious the sandwich was not made fresh. Fried pickle spears were cold and mushy and the mac n cheese was terrible. Everything but bbq was not seasoned and tasted like it vam from a box and heated up. The steak sandwich looked like it had been microwaved. The portions for the price is ridiculous. $2.49 for a tiny bowl of mac n cheese, $4.99 for 5 little fried pickle spears that were cold and mushy. The Texas potatoes were cold and crusty looking. This is not the quality of food that it used to be. Now it's overpriced heated up boxed or frozen food. Do better. read more

I had the BBQ sandwich basket: chopped pork with "chow" slaw. So yummy! I really enjoyed it with their Gold sauce, but also liked their hot sauce. I got to taste their fried okra, corn nuggets and coleslaw; all were delicious. I also heard the catfish is amazing from multiple people too. Our waitress was a real sweetheart and took great care of our large scattered group of about 12. We split our bill several ways with everyone all scattered across multiple tables, but our tickets were all correct and everyone enjoyed the food. None of us were from the area but several of us had visited several times in recent years and they keep coming back to KB. Now I know why and if I'm ever in Marion again... This place gets 5 stars from me for the fried catfish. It's the best!!!! Plus the people are so friendly. I was raised in Marion until I was 9 and I love to come here when I visit. The corn fritters never seem to be done in the center and I would steer away from the pie but the catfish, oh the catfish!!!! read more

This place was recommended by a local. If this is what is considered a bbq place, they are missing out. The only bbq items were pulled pork or ribs. The ribs were over done and chewy. The baked beans tasted like they came straight out of the can. The only good things were the hush puppies and Texas potatoes. Save your money and eat elsewhere. read more

I live near this place and every time I go by it is usually busy which I can't understand why, it that must be a local hang out or something. I have dined at this place two times before today I decided to give it a third and final try. The previous times I did not have a good experience with the food nor did I today I will not give it a fourth try! I do not like the barbecue it's dry and tasteless. There is always two or three side items that they're out of every time you go. If you order any of the fried side items be prepared for them to be overcooked. YUM. This is my #1 choice for Southern food in Marion. Hush puppies, fried okra, cheeseburger or pulled pork sandwich... Order whatever you like best, it's all going to be delicious and VERY inexpensive. It's probably a good thing they don't have a drive thru window anymore... That fried okra goes straight to my hips! Came in late and ordered pork and beef brisket to go. They messed up the order, charged me more for the brisket, but gave me 2 pulled pork sandwiches instead. I could understand a mistake if they were busy, but the place was DEAD. I wouldn't have minded if they were good, but the pork was BONE DRY. I've finally decided to never return, quality and taste of bbq pork and ribs has been slowly deteriorating, but it's also due to the poor customer service from their silly high school waitresses, they really need to conduct some customer service training. Had issues on last 3 to-go orders, (wrong orders, no condiments no fork) last straw came on 4/22 asked for an extra bbq sauce and after the rolling of eyes and huffing (this was by the blonde in the FS sweatshirt) was told I could have 1 only. My point is if I had dined in, I could have all the sauce I wanted from the bottles on the table so why the big deal for an extra. 1 small container is not enough for 4 ribs!!! Last point- You are leaving your ribs on the smoker way too long, they are dry and have way too much hard bark on them.. read more

We have eaten at this restaurant about 10 times, usually the food is good, but the last time we ate there, the service was terrible, asked 3 times for additional fish and was told , it was turned into cook. This is my favorite local place for BBQ spare ribs. Big meaty smoked ribs. No overly salty rub here just smokey goodness. They have three sauces on the table my favorite being the "Gold". I always get the all you can eat ribs and fish (pollock) and have never been disappointed. I've had so-so mushy fish at many local restaurants but not here, very good. Some of the sides are a bit generic but the meat makes up for it in spades. Home made pie is also excellent and they usually have about 10 to choose from. My wife says that their chicken strips are really good but I may never find out because as I may have mentioned I am CRAZY over the ribs and fish . I deducted one star for the couple of times that I have had lazy waitresses that liked to hang out behind the counter but this is the exception not the norm. K B BBQ (formally Pulley's BBQ) has some really good ribs and catfish. They have a great all you can eat deal, where you can choose from 2 different kinds of food and eat as much as you'd like. I always get ribs and catfish fiddlers, but they also have fried shrimp and white fish. They have good pie which is homemade. I also really like their sides, especially the fried zucchini. Lastly, they have some pretty awesome BBQ sauce; I really like the spicy one. While the restaurant isn't always the cleanest, I really enjoy the variety, quality, and affordability of the food. read more

My husband (fiance at the time) and I were on an intense search for the best BBQ, specifically pulled pork, that we could find to have catered at our wedding in Creal Springs. After trying every BBQ place within a 45 minute radius, we crowned KB the winner! Honestly, their gold sauce is some of the best we've ever had. The chow (rather than slaw) on top was a new concept to us until we had tried a lot of southern IL BBQ places, but KB does an excellent job with it. Their pulled pork certainly has more bark than a lot of the other local places. To this day, we still have wedding guests talk to us about their Texas Potatoes. We greatly enjoyed the corn nuggets and hush puppies as well. Kevin (the owner) personally catered our wedding, and he did a great job. His price was extremely reasonable and he was very easy to work with and very down to earth. If you're looking for a BBQ caterer in the area (or even just outside of it), KB is definitely worth checking out. Very good cheap country cookin. They have very good fresh BBQ and homemade pies. I personally like the smoked turkey sandwich. They are very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. They even have a drive thru if you call your food in ahead of time. read more
