Stopped at this dinner for lunch because there is not a lot of choices here that were open. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. It was good but nothing to brag about. The fried mushrooms tasted good. The one thing that stuck out was that they know their customers and address them by their first names. This is something you don't see often any more. Absolutely the worst BBQ I have paid for yet. I bought 5 pounds at 17 dollars a pound. It came in paper bag out of the fridge, no taste what so ever, not a ounce of smell. It was absolutely pitiful. After we hiked this morning we hit Dixie BBQ. I had the Hog (it's a burger with pulled pork on it) was very good. Fries are good and crispy, onion rings are solid too. Staff was helpful and friendly. Place must be good, place was packed. We ate outside on the patio, which was nice since it wasn't too hot and the umbrellas made it perfect. Slice BBQ heaven! I love their sauce. My favorite order here is the large BBQ basket, well done BBQ (they crisp it up on the Grill top), no pickles, and onion rings instead of fries. Then you gotta get the sauce and dress your sliced pork and then pour it in your onion rings. The sauce is a sweet sauce. My son loves their cheeseburgers and when it's chill season, we definitely get our fair share. Chocolate malts at the end of the meal are always a treat. The service is incredible. I love feeling welcomed. The restaurant is very old and it hasn't changed, which is fine by me. Quality over fancy stuff is okay with me. read more

This is a little place with limited seating but has good food at reasonable prices. They do accept credit cards too. The BBQ is good, a bit on the dry side but tasty and you can always add a touch of sauce. I have been eating here since I can remember. They have very good barbecue. I think the secret is in the sauce. It's so good. When our relatives from Florida used to come visit, my grandfather would take the whole family there every year at least once during their visit. We used to joke that they drove all the way from Florida to eat at the Dixie. It's a very small building that can be misleading, but this restaurant has stood the test of time. Small and clean with little wooden booths that have been painted at least 25 times all add to the charm of the restaurant. The after thought ceiling fan wire is all small town. The pork sandwich is amazingly consistent and as far as I'm concerned, the only thing on the menu because it is the only thing I have ever ordered. The thinly sliced smoked pork and butter toasted bun is awesome. Add some of their home made sauce and it's done deal good meal. I've known some folks who swear by this place. I find the barbecue to be dry as can be, unless you absolutely drown it in their sauce. Even so, the sauce isn't much to write home about. Illinois I'm sorry to tell you that the thinly sliced brisket with no recognizable smoke ring or flavor that was warmed on the flat grill was at best HORRIBLE and that pink sauce you put on it that had a funky thousand island with ranch and extra ketchup was NOT BBQ sauce by any stretch of the imagination. The staff was very friendly however. I happen to be traveling back home to the south when I had an urge for BBQ and this place was about 8 miles off of I-57 and had great ratings on Yelp. This is the FIRST bad report I think I've given, but I OWED IT TO THE UNSUSPECTING BBQ ENTHUSIAST!!! That all said as I sat there enjoying my crispy onion rings I looked around and it appeared that over 90% of customers were eating burgers which smelled great on the grill. I grew up here and have eaten here many times. But the last time we ate there (which was a long time ago) we had to ask them where the meat was for our BBQ. Like man there isn't any on it. Very pricy for what they give you. It was just a bread sandwich. Not only that, I didn't really care for the sauce anymore. Not sure why. Maybe my tastes have changed. Anyway we don't eat here anymore. And the last burger I had from there was a bit on the greasy side too. I sure hope they have changed for the better in the last few years that I have not been there. It can;t get any better than Dixie BBQ in Jonesboro, IL and I am from Chicago and I truly cannot wait to eat the BBQ pork when I come to visit family. It is very small restaurant, but it is truly a place you should not miss eating at. I have ate her since I was a little girl and still come back to eat here. I wish I could take Dixie BBQ home with me, because once you try Dixie BBQ there is no comparison to any other BBQ pork anywhere in the world.
