Very calming in this place - it was full not loud but the service was great! I was offered a water sparkling or still on arrival, given a fantastic manicure, and assisted in finding the perfect color for the day. Though I wish the staff was a little more excited to chat (I love coming to the nail salon and meeting new people including my tech and neighbors) I was extremely happy with the manicure. I just got the bare gel as it was my first time and I have had such bad luck win nail places around Seattle. This one left my hands looking AMAZING as well as had lasted a split 2 weeks with no chips or cracks. She removed my prior extensions gently, selected and shaped my nails perfectly, checked frequently for feedback, and applied color and art with precision. I found this salon after some research, and brought in some reference photos for the appointment. My nails were done by Chloe, and she really took her time making sure each nail was done perfectly. Chloe and the receptionist were both super friendly, and I had a great time chatting with them during my appointment. The appointment lasted about 3 hours between my mani and pedi. My first experience was amazing - I wondered if similarly rated salons would compare, but after some tests I discovered they do not! Urban Nail Box is far superior. Booking online is super easy. They fill up quickly so I recommend booking in advance. There's always been someone available to check me in and I'm seated shortly after. They offer sparkling water and tea. Haven't been in a while, but it looks like they did some updates to the space - it's definitely more modern and minimal looking than most other salons. I've gotten both regular and gel polish here. The paraffin wax is so nice on your skin, I recommend the package with that. I never feel like I'm rushed or being pushed out the door when I'm near finished. I only go on occasion, but this is the only salon in Seattle I'll visit! I have not had a better nail experience in my life! In the past, I have chosen more affordable salons that tend to hurt or damage my nails and the experience is usually quick and sometimes painful. Being new to Seattle, one of my first missions was to find a nail salon. I chose 3 that I wanted to try before deciding where to become a regular. Urban Nail Box was the second that I tried. I got to the area a bit early so that I could explore a bit. I was able to get some work done in a coffee shop around the corner. There's also eyebrow threading nearby, which is convenient if you like to knock everything out at once like I do. I really enjoyed Urban Nail Box. The space is very comfortable, and the staff are welcoming and helpful. They had a selection of complementary drinks to choose from. They also have a decent selection of colors. The colors are actually on a website, which made it a bit difficult to choose from. I'm not great at visualizing how the colors will look on me so I prefer to see the colors on the physical display. Tristie was incredibly helpful, though. She showed me some options so that I could pick the one I liked the most. Since it was my birthday, I treated myself to the Gel Ultimate Urban Mani and Pedi. She did a wonderful job. Actually, this might have been the most relaxing pedicure I have EVER gotten. And I've had my fair share. While I did miss having a massage chair, I found the couch at the pedicure station to be very comfortable. The manicure lasted quite a while, especially considering that I took up indoor bouldering and have no shortage of ways to potentially ruin my nails. Highly recommend! read more

This is my second time getting my nails done with Urban Nail Box (first one was at Fremont), but their Ballard location is much more accessible to me. It's much smaller than the the Fremont location, but the service is as good (or maybe even better). I got my nails done by Tin, who's super nice. Her style is maximalism (as she mentioned), so the design that I brought to her was on the simpler side. She even made sure I paid the proper amount, which is so commendable! I got there at 12:15, I was out by 12:50pm. And in between my appointment, Tin was welcoming every customer that came in and even opened the door to some customers that were struggling with it. By the end of it, she made sure that I knew of the store's policies (like if I ever chip my nail within a certain time frame, touch up, etc). She has warm and friendly vibes, and I left with an amazing experience and an amazing set of nails. I think I found my go to! Thank you, Tin! read more

UNB has been my go to for a few years now and really appreciate that it is woman owned and operated though I feel like the quality has decreased significantly. My last mani, the tech forgot the top coat and sent me out, I had to come back a day later for touch ups. I recently had a gel mani done and the tech was so so rushed I felt stressed the entire time I was there. While I feel like the quality and service were worth the high prices in the past, I am not so sure anymore! Sometimes we have the first appointment of the day and others a little after and all the parking allowed for the salon is taken. I knew I liked this place right when you walk in and are greeted w a friendly face and a hint of lemongrass in the air. Went twice with two nail technicians and have not been disappointed. Went first for a trail and a second time for my wedding day (pic is my wedding nails almost a week after they were done got busy with the wedding so I didn't get a chance to post this review right away). Three of these nails were also a nail repair! Tin was my wedding nails technician and I booked the 30 min nail art. I had all these ideas on Pinterest and she took the simple ideas I had and made it better - being clear about color, design, and accents every step of the way. I loved how honest she was about what she could do with nail art...I've been to enough places where they say they can do something and it looks so bad but they still upcharge you for it anyway. Here - you get what you pay for. Parking can be a pain, lucky enough to get street parking but the small lot in front of the salon has been full the two times I've been. I have gone a handful of times and will travel the distance (I live outside the city) for the wonderful experience from start to finish. The interior is meticulously designed and very inviting. This was our first time at UNB and had high hopes. The good news is out two pedicures were fantastic - the technicians know their stuff. So why the "meh" rating? The pedicure seating. We were expecting the common Barcalounger chair but UNB offers very trendy, fashionable upholstered seats that you might see in the lobby of a hip hotel. No recline, and the workstand to place your feet is not fixed, so I was constantly having to readjust, lest I kick the tech when it would slip away. I had already booked my next appointment so I kept it. I once again saw Annie and she did an incredible job (as she had in the past). Annie is not only talented at the actual painting/art, but she can recommend colors for you to achieve what you want. (Sometimes it's hard to know how a color will look from the swatch). I am happy to say this manicure lasted for 3 weeks of a long international trip (and I wasn't exactly easy on my nails either!) they still look great and the grow out is what I would expect from the time.
