My boyfriend and I took his 7 year old nephew - he had the time of his life. We enjoyed the beautiful view and cruise while he got dressed up, fake tattooed, danced around, sang songs, played games, sprayed the "evil pirate" with the spray guns, and got prizes from the treasure chest. We couldn't help but laugh and be happy about how much fun he was having and we really enjoyed the cruise ourselves. The crew was so nice and made sure to get all the kids involved so the adults could relax. Definitely recommend it! He still talks about it! read more

You will cruise around the Inner Harbor while the crew plays games and has you keep an eye out for the "bad guy" who wants to take over your ship. Had a great time sailing the harbor with a group of friends on the booze cruise. The staff was fun and friendly and kept us entertained with games, dancing, and shots of Captain Morgan. As soon as you board the ship, a staff member gives you a pirate name tag (ex. Naughty Nick, 7 Sleeze Sam) and tattoos. It's BYOB which makes the experience a little cheaper. Definitely recommend going with a large group. Try it out for something new and fun to do in Baltimore! read more

I took my kids on the pirate cruise this past weekend for my son's 5th birthday. He and my 7 year old daughter loved it. The games, dancing, water cannons, etc were great and the staff were all very engaging and funny. My only "complaint" is that while I understand they want full participation from kids AND adults, I really did just want to relax and allow my kids to enjoy their time with the pirates. I love being on a boat but didn't really feel the need to join in with the games, dancing, etc. I suppose it would just be nice if it was more geared towards the kids with parental participation as optional. Oh, and FYI, the "face painting' is simply a mustache/beard drawn on by the staff with a washable Crayola marker. My kids loved it nonetheless but it was a little "cheap"... My kids would give Urban Pirates 5 stars no doubt... I would say 3 stars so we'll meet in the middle with 4 stars... I think there is still room for improvement. read more

It was a boiling hot summer morning [July 2oth of this year] with four school teachers and two little boys ready to try this tour. Wow was it impressive. The pirate actors had such great energy that out lasted the boat full of kiddos! The tattoos, pirate names, pirate outfits got everyone in the mood. The cruise was just so cute with lots of action planned. All of the kids had a ball and the adults were delighted. The little adventure was a treat. But again the actors were just spot on and did a great job. Give these guys a raise cause they really made the cruise! read more

First let me say this is the first review I have ever written. I will take the time going forward to provide them as I had a very positive experience today as well with a different business that I will also be sharing. I can't speak to the experience of the Urban Pirate tour, but the Customer Service is lacking. I am in New Jersey and planned a family day in Baltimore for tomorrow. My husband checked the weather today and it turns out it will be raining all day tomorrow in Baltimore, so we obviously decided it would not be a good day to make the trip. I accept that the cancellation policy is 48 hours for cancellation, but unfortunately weather reports can't be relied on 48 hours in advance so we would not have been able to know for sure how the day would be that far in advance. I also accept that they will sail rain or shine, but that is meaningless to me if I will not be making the trip to Baltimore from New Jersey due to the weather. I called and asked for a courtesy to reschedule our tour for another day in spite of these policies because from a Customer Service perspective that is what works best for all. I was not requesting a refund. We will have four kids with us and it just does not make sense to spend the day in Baltimore with four kids while it is raining significantly. My request was declined after asking more than once for a courtesy due to our situation to help the customer. This is just not how you do business today. I was being fair and regardless of the polices in place, you should have accommodated me as a rational customer who was not looking to get her money back, just trying to figure out what was best for all given that it just didn't make sense for us to make the trip on the scheduled day. read more

My 6 year old son had a great time on the tour. The tour is 90 mins but about 30 mins of that is docked and getting the kids vests on, getting their pirate name and getting temp tattoos put on they also go over safety info. Then the boat leaves the dock and you go for about an hour ride. They staff teaches the kids some pirate lingo, they dance, tell jokes and spray water cannons at Mad Dog who is on a dingy boat. My son loved it! We would for sure do it again. read more

Awful customer service. Our group had booked our BYOG sail WAY in advance as we were in town for a bachelorette weekend. Policy says that you sail rain or shine, and that you would call us if anything was cancelled. Well, we showed up at the dock before 5:30 pm, waited for an hour and no one showed up. We called every phone number we could find and no one picked up. Finally, we found an email that had been sent that morning and had been filtered to spam folder saying that you cancelled our sail. What gives? The weather was perfect. And where was our phone call to tell us that you cancelled? Your policy states that you will call and you didn't. Instead, we wasted our time and money on uber rides. We want a refund. read more

Terrible experience. There were downpours all day and nothing but storms in the forecast. The policy specifically states that the ship sails rain or shine unless it is unsafe due to lighting, etc. In that case, customers will be notified via phone prior to the scheduled departure...what a joke. After calling exactly one hour before our 8:30 departure (I called 3 times earlier in the day with no answer) and being told the ship was still sailing, I started my trek around the beltway to pick up the rest of our group. You can imagine how great that was on a Friday night in pouring down rain. We finally made it to Fells Point where we searched for parking for over 20 minutes before finding a garage with open spots. We walked 10 minutes in the pouring down rain to get to the boat that was literally pulling off as we arrived. There was a paper note on the door that said the cruise had been cancelled. We then walked another 10 minutes back in the rain to pay our $7 parking and trek or entire group back home. No call. No email. I finally got home 2.5 hours later, still no call or email. I received an email at 9:24 the next morning (13 hours later) stating, "We are sorry you weren't able to sail with us today. To re-book your adventure, please give us a call at (410) 327-8378!" This is an extremely unprofessional establishment with no regard for their customers. It is absurd that they cannot make a decision within ONE hour of sailing. Especially when the forecast was clearly calling for storms! It is absurd they cannot notify customers via phone (as their policy states) or even email before their arrival. We do not live in Baltimore. This was a major waste of time, effort, and money and all Urban pirates had the decency to do was write a paper sign and tape it to the door. read more

We took our sons (7 and 5) on the cruise early one Saturday morning. They had been introduced to pirates on a recent St. Augustine trip. On board, we received pirate clothes and tattoos. The cruise lasted about an hour. On board we played pirate games and also participated in a narrative duel with another pirate. The kids got to shoot water cannons out into the harbor. A lot of nice harbor views of Domino sugar, condos, Aquarium, and the Inner Harbor. Would recommend making reservations in advance as the cruise fills quickly. Also the earlier cruise is easier to park for on the street And during the summer the sun is less intense. read more

After spying a groupon several friends and I made a date to board the pirate ship in Fells Point. We opted for the adult cruise and while it was on the short side, we had a great time. I recommend hitting a happy hour before boarding the byob adult party ship, since you'll be getting one shot on the boat. Line up close to a water cannon to score a prime spot and place your cooler between you and friends. The staff is fun and it's an enjoyable, if unorthodox experience. Afterwards we walked over to Patterson Bowling for more byob fun and it was a pretty great end cap to the night. read more

We had my children's birthday party here and couldn't be more pleased! They were very attentive and helpful from the moment I frantically called on the morning of to make sure we were "set" to our departure after our pizza and cake in the Party Room. We were entertained throughout the excursion and the children were active participants the whole time. They took care of setting up, serving and cleaning up so I was able to completely enjoy the day too. I have used this service many times in the past and quite enjoyed it. However, my latest experience was so negative I will never use or recommend this service to anyone again! Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to make a reservation I booked for a Friday cruise. I contacted the business 72 hours (on a Tuesday) prior to the cruise, but the business refused to give me a refund or credit claiming I needed to contact them 72 hours prior to midnight of the night before, which was complete garbage. The person I spoke to was incredibly rude, and for a service focused on the customer experience, it was nothing but a rude, frustrating experience! I contacted the owner directly explaining my situation and she just completely ignored me. Considering I had used this service 5 or 6 times in the past few years, clearly loyalty and service means nothing to this organization. I would highly recommend to anyone considering booking a reservation with Urban Pirates to skip it completely. Use a service that actually cares about you and your experience. read more

I got to limbo, do a conga line, drink beer, shoot water canons, and actually listen to "I'm on a boat" while on a boat. Plus, it's a mock pirate boat. These things right there speak well to how fun the cruise is. Had a great time, I think the price is right for the experience, the number of people wasn't overwhelming on the boat so I didn't feel claustrophobic, and it was just a lot of fun. My wife wanted to go on this for her 30th birthday. So we planed a small group to go with us 12 friends. We all thought it would be fun and we would get a chance to see the harbor. We were wrong. It was a blast and were so busy having fun we did not even notice the views. The crew did a great job and I would reccomend this to anyone who wants to drink and have a good time. The only cons I was point out is the "pirate outfits" could have been a little more detailed and have included hats or more items. I can't even begin to warn you enough. STAY AWAY!!!! I am shocked my the number of good reviews this company has. I have never in my entire life dealt with more unprofessional, rude, nasty, and unsympathetic people. We had a large group in from out of town for a bachelorette party. As soon as we arrived, it started to rain. I was completely unconcerned because the contract you sign states that they sail RAIN OR SHINE. Inconvenient? Yes. But we were prepared. We were loaded onto the boat, and then immediately escorted off due to "weather" and told to just leave and we would receive rain checks in our email. At this time, I asked to speak to a manager and after an employee argued with me about the need to speak with one a woman who claimed to be the owner came over quite aggressively and asked me what I needed. I explained that I wanted our money back. She told me to "Read the contract. We don't do refunds." I stated that the contract also says that you sail rain or shine and that's clearly not the case. At this time, four of her employees are standing behind her, one of which is laughing at me as I try to discuss the situation with the owner. At this time, I explain that I supervise the people responsible for customer service at my company and that I tell my employees that when it comes down to it, you should do the right thing. The owner says "I choose to do the wrong thing." I was completely shocked by this and explained that I understand the policy that they have in place, but they didn't follow through on their end and they had an opportunity to make it right. She kept asking me to email her so she could tell me "no" in an email and not have to talk with me anymore. I asked her if she realized how condescending that was and she stated she didn't care. She said "I run a small business and this is how I make my money." I asked her if she makes her money by not providing the service she is paid to provide and she said "Sometimes." At this point, I admit, I lost my temper and called her a name. I wish I had taken the high road and not stooped to her level. Is it possible to have a good time on the pirate cruse? I'm sure it is. But I for one would never want to support a company who not only doesn't have the customer in mind, but is proud of that! I suppose I should thank her for giving me yet another teaching moment for my employees on what NOT to do. read more

Went today with husband and 2 kids (5 year old and 18 months old). They had a lot of fun, and so did we! Nice crew, 30 minutes built-in to get everyone in costumes and ready, then an hour of sailing around the harbor. I was great. I got a good deal on Certifikid, which made it all worthwhile. My friends and I opted to take the BYOG (Bring your own grog) Adult Cruise. We had a fantastic time! The music was great, the crew was fantastic and it was a perfect amount of time on the boat. As an FYI, they do supply cups, but no ice, so make sure to bring your own. Also, we thought it was great that the crew served out free rum shots throughout the cruise. They even let us use the water cannons. Thanks for a great birthday party! When are you guys setting sail in DC? Seems like there might be a market... :) read more

We took our 8 year old son on an early morning cruise. Upon arriving, they dressed all of us in pirate gear (I was wary of this because I thought the clothes might be dirty but they were freshly washed). We were all given pirate names. On the cruise we played limbo, had a treasure hunt, danced to music, shot water out of cannons. We all loved it and had a fantastic time. The crew is wonderful. Great Family cruise! We took my 2 and 4 year old daughters and they LOVED this! The crew was so friendly, fun, and authentic! When we boarded the pirate ship we all got to pick out a pirate tattoo and were assigned a pirate name by a scurvy pirate on board. They told pirate stories, sang songs, even shot water cannons at a bad pirate, and plunder some pirate booty on our voyage! It rained in the middle of our trip and the crew kept the fun going by reading us all a pirate story and making fun pirate jokes to keep us entertained and having fun. I purchased tickets for myself and a couple of friends to celebrate my birthday. However,it poured down before boarding so they canceled sail for the remainder of the evening. I was offered a time frame of a year to reschedule never a refund. Time went by and I forgot about the credit while now living in another state. Knowing that I probably will not make the time frame to use the credit, I contacted them explaining that I no longer lived there requesting a refund. When informing the manager of the move his response was "We have people who come out of state just to do this. Reschedule" Didn't think I needed to go into depth about the cause for my move and the fact that I don't plan to come back. When I asked if I don't reschedule in the year what will happen his response was "well we don't give refunds so you would have to use it or lose out" so Im expected to lose out on over $200 with no accommodation what so ever? I never canceled this was weather. I then asked if I could be granted extended time. He agrees to an extension. I asked is there something I could have in writing, email ect explaining the extension. His response was I have to contact them when the year is up and ask for the extension if I have not used It. Not sure what sense it would make to wait until the end to possibly lose out on everything via word of mouth. He wasn't understanding the issue and said "contact me when the time is up."Ummm sir you may not even be working there in a year. Things happen. As a manager, there is No reason why I had to suggest accommodations. Customer service is beyond dissatisfying. I didn't feel any sort of customer satisfaction. Im totally turned off. Non the less I've taken a loss at tho point. Im never going to use that credit. When operating and conducting business, let's always keep our customers in mind who keep our business open and afloat. That wasn't the correct answer as management for a business . That's not how you conduct business. read more

I actually give this attraction a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. We went on a VERY hot, sunny, and humid day, and even though the crew had to be dressed in their full HOT costumes, they still did a good job of entertaining the kids. (This cruise WAS greatly geared toward kids. If you're a party of adults, you may not get much out of the daytime cruise because of that!) They were engaging and energetic with the kids. They had music, a storyline, songs, and games! The time was well-filled and went by quickly. It does not go out on to the ocean. It stays inside of the harbor area and just does laps. You get to see much of the harbor area that way. :) The time on the tickets was 11 am, but the ship didn't take off until 11:30. (We couldn't board until 11:15, so there was some time wasted because of that) Once on board, we were given pirate vests. That was fun, but it was so hot, I'm sorry to say we sweated through our vests. The cruise ran for one hour once it got going. The kids received optional tattoos. They said they'd do face paint for my daughter, but that never happened, and she was disappointed. I suppose it didn't matter. It was so hot that the paint would have likely melted off of her face. :P They can book up to 49 people per cruise, but if they did, I think it would be too cramped. There were around 30 on our cruise, and it seemed cramped. There was not much seating available. I won't fault U.P. for this because in all honesty, you aren't SUPPOSED to be sitting during the cruise. You're supposed to be on your feet and actively participating in the things they were doing. (Because of the extreme weather conditions, the adults in my party chose to hide in the shaded areas and/or seating and let the kids have the fun!) We were just sorry that we didn't have any cash on us for a tip! We walked from the train, so we didn't carry cash with us. At the end, they said that they appreciated tips if we felt they did well. If we'd known, we'd have brought some just for that. :) The price is reasonable for this unique excursion. I would recommend it to others! :) read more

I went to a 5:30pm BYOG Adult Pirate Cruise and it was a great time. The pirates were fun and welcoming, and my friends and I had a blast. Beware of the cancellation policy as it is really strict and they sail even when it's raining. Lastly, this cruise is supposed to be kid friendly, but I would really only recommend families to take their kids to the earlier times instead of the later times since there are less adults getting drunk on those. read more

We chartered a boat for a corporate event months in advance. Unfortunately, the date we chose coincided with Hurricane Florence. Although the hurricane was not projected to hit Baltimore directly, it was projected to cause severe thunderstorms in the area. We reached out 2 days in advance of the event to request that we reschedule the event due to the inclement weather. We spoke to the General Manager, Kyle Dembowski, who was extremely rude. He told us they are unable to reschedule unless there is thunder or lightning at the exact time of departure (he said "if there is thunder at 4:55 and you depart at 5, we may not cancel the trip as storms can pass quickly"). This is extremely unsafe - if I'm at my local pool when a thunderstorm hits, I am not able to get into the water for 30 minutes, yet, he thinks it's safe to go out on a boat in the middle of the harbor 5 minutes after lightning is seen. If thunderstorms are in the area hours before the event, it is not safe to go out on the water. Additionally, this is extremely unprofessional. We chartered an entire boat and are not going to be given any notice, which means the entire team has to drive to the event just to be told we can reschedule (because no refunds are given under any circumstances). I would not recommend booking in advance for the event. Additionally, I would strongly recommend the company re-think their choice for General Manager as he is severely lacking in customer service skills. read more

Did this one twice with the kids. The day-time tour was fun for the 10 and under crowd. The actors involved are very enthusiastic and really earn their pay keeping the guests entertained and involved. Tips are openly encouraged at the end, and I didn't feel at all bad about tipping the crew for such a good job. I don't think we'll do the family cruise again, as the story line that's played out is the same each time and would get pretty stale if you do this too often. We've not tried the adult BYOB cruise yet, though the crew promises a "completely different experience" from the family cruise. read more
