I wish they used better shampoo/conditioner. My hair was very dry when I got home, but the cut was good. I'd have appreciated a flatiron after the blow-dry, but I'm sure that would have cost more. The prices were reasonable and the staff VERY friendly and accommodating. read more

Unfortunately I have not wanted to write this review but I still have not gotten over how I've felt about my hair. The salon had dim lighting so it was hard to notice that my newly dyed hair still exposed my grey hairs in my bangs even though it was a full color. For the price I paid, I really did expect a nice full red but unfortunately the dye has not held on my roots and my grey showed the same day. I couldn't ask for anything more! I'm getting married in June and don't live in Batavia, so I found this place online. I loved the idea of an organic concept and the prices were far less than neighboring salons. I ended up booking the salon for me and my bridesmaids (and put down the deposit) before ever even stepping foot inside. I was so confident that they would do a fabulous job because their customer service was impeccable from the first phone call. I did my bridal hair and make-up run through this last weekend and now, I'm a customer for life. It's one of those salons that when you walk in, you're greeted warmly, offered something to drink, and they truly want to make you look good. My mother-in-law also did her hair run through which is not typical, but this was a new salon for new and she wanted to make sure it looked right. She loved hers too. :) Everything was excellent. I moved here from Madison, WI in 2013, where I had a fantastic stylist who knew exactly what to do with my hair - which is thin, fine and pretty lifeless on its own. I struggled for years to find someone who could work with my hair, and finally, I just gave up and let it grow out, too afraid to let anyone do much with it. I had a style in mind - an asymmetrical cut that would be really drastic and daring (for me) - and it took me a year to get up the nerve to let someone try it. In February of 2018, I called Urban Style Salon on a whim and got hooked up with Lana, who gave me a life-changing haircut, in the very best way. I brought in photos, she did an assessment, studied the pics and went to work. She didn't talk to me much *because she was concentrating* - which I, personally, greatly appreciate! I have had so much anxiety in the past with other stylists who seem more focused on small talk conversation than their craft - which happens to involve my hair! She has the vision and the technique and the artistry - particularly with white lady baby-fine limp hair! I've gone back a few times, and she's done a fantastic job every time, and is enthusiastic to try new things and offer her opinions and suggestions - which I trust! She's a rare find! I live in Los Angeles --- and I literally wait way too long between haircuts JUST to get an appointment with Alex when I fly home-- instead of getting it cut in LA! She is a master with my hair. She did my hair at my wedding (on suggestion from a bridesmaid) and has been cutting it ever since. This has been my salon for a while now. My go to stylist is Lana, and I'm always happy with my hair after an appointment with her. She has also waxed my eyebrows, and done a great job every time. My hair is straight and very fine, so it's hard to figure out what to do with it. If you have a similar hair type, I would definitely recommend Lana. I wanted to like this place. The organic concept and décor was appealing, but that was about it. This place makes up their own rules, pretends to listen to the customer's want but instead does what they think is best - and it's not. And, while I am open to ideas, I also think it is in one's best interest to showcase abilities within the realm of what a customer actually desires. So, while good in concept, this place is just shady with business practices. Beware #1. I inquired about bridal hair/makeup trial. TRIAL, as in - let me test you out because I'm shopping around to find a good fit for this big day of mine. I was quoted $65 for hair trial and $85 for day of hair. Seemed reasonable. The gentleman also mentioned they had a package for trials and day of that could be done as well. Okay, makes sense. When I was finished my trial services, I asked the price owed for hair and makeup from that trial day. He quoted me $100. Seemed fair, given the trial hair quote I was told was $65. He proceeded to say that would be applied as deposit towards the entire bridal package for my day of services. Also seemed fair. He quickly marked me down for the day-of appointment... I get that, it's a specific day that needs to be booked. I left and later canceled my day-of appointment, as their services are not what I was looking for and I didn't want to use them. He said that was fine but asked how I wished to handle the balance. Balance? What balance? He proceed to claim I owed $50 extra dollars for the trial. After doing math, that would mean my trial makeup was $85 dollars? Please. That's insane. Don't try swindling customers. When the trial was over, I asked the price for services rendered that day. He quoted $100, which I paid that day. You don't go back to a customer saying "by the way, your dinner was actually another $50" after the fact. Bad, shady customer service. Beware #2. The ladies working there are all very nice and I do not wish to bad mouth them. However, the woman doing my makeup - TWICE - dropped the brushes she was using. They fell to the floor. The floor that I don't know how often gets cleaned. Now, I get things fall on the floor; I've dropped stuff myself. What was irking was instead of putting the dropped brushes to the side, she just put them back in the stash she was using on me! Whether or not those actual brushes were used on me, I am unsure. However, given the fact I formed a sty on my eye the very next day after she did my makeup makes me think it probably had something to do with dirty floor brushes being used. Bad, shady customer care. Beware #3. I brought pictures of ideas for my hair. As I went to the woman doing my hair trial, she informed me she could not find the clips for the hot rollers and would have to use just a curling iron instead. Back it up. A HAIR SALON could not find the CLIPS for the HOT ROLLERS and therefore she couldn't use them? I expect that service from my neighbor's home-run salon, but certainly not a "professional" establishment. There was only one other person getting hair done that day. A salon doesn't have spares? Bad, shady customer preparedness. Beware #4. On top of that, all the pictures I showed were very subdued styles - minimal volume. I left with an Amy Winehouse beehive poof that was nowhere to be found in my picture examples. Coupled with my "should-be-natural-looking-makeup-but-instead-made-me-look-like-a-drag-queen-man," I left feeling very uncomfortable and hooker like. Bad, shady customer experience. While the ladies seem to listen to what I was looking for, they instead came up with extremely different interpretations of my examples. Needless to say, this place does not have my respect, especially after the owner claimed I owed more money when I tried canceling an appointment two months out. Overall, I think etiquette, preparedness, and customer services skills are beneficially needed in this establishment - and I was not planning on yelping them until the owner claimed I owed more money. I just moved to the area and needed a new stylist. I am an Aveda junkie and had tried an Aveda salon in the area, but wasn't completely sold. I decided to give Urban Style Salon a chance since they use organic products. I had such a GREAT experience. Raquel was my stylist and listened to me while adding her suggestions. I go for a cut and color every four weeks, so it is important for me to like the stylist AND the atmosphere. Both did not disappoint! My hair looks great! The owner Alex, gave me a hand massage while my color was processing and I had the most delicious latte as well. Can't say enough good things about my experience! Moving as often as I have, I always dread when I have to begin my search for a new hair salon. My hair is past my shoulders and very low maintenence so I have a hard time justifying paying $70 for a haircut that hardly has a style, at a place where I have to wait 2 weeks minimum to get in. I was so relieved when I left a voicemail requesting an appt. at Urban Style on a Monday, and received a call back immediately, even on a day the salon is closed. ( I had left voicemails at other area salons on days they were open and didnt even recieve a call back. Ever.) They have a welcome promo for new customers that included a color and cut for $75- an offer I couldn't pass up, not to mention being able to accommodate an appointment within a day. I realize some customers associate an open salon schedule with bad service, (I.e., packed schedule=good salon). I disagree with that. When I decide I'm going to get my hair done, I want instant gratification and don't want to be inconvenienced for 2 weeks out. I brought an iPad with photos of the shade of highlights I was looking for and explained to my stylist Raquel that previous stylists have not gone as blonde as I have asked them too. She listened to what I was requesting, took a good long look at the photos I brought and did a knockout job on my cut and highlight. The organic products are a plus, the hot towel and head massage during the shampoo were heavenly, and the atmosphere was sophisticated and friendly, I even bought a gift certificate for a sport massage for my husband's Valentines gift on my way out. I just realized I've been going here for two years - so time for an update. As much as I loved this place before, I love it more now. I wanted a Mako Mori cut and color (go see Pacific Rim if you don't know what that is), and I needed it done right for a special event. My husband and daughter also go to Raquel. My husband gets massages from Toni - she's excellent! I got one from her too while I was pregnant and it was heavenly. I made an appointment for me and 4 bridesmaids. I went in to pick a color ahead of time only to be asked to buy my own colors, which cost me $15. Then one of the nail techs complained to one of my bridesmaids that the polish was dry! They also told me they'd include gratuity since it was a party, which is fine and I normally tip 20% anyway. They told me they'd get us done in a reasonable amount of time (I was hoping for 3 hours for all of us manis and pedis). That didn't happen. Took us 4 hours. On top of that, it was clear to all of us that the two that did our nails were not seasoned nail techs (one even said she did hair). Clearly they had the training but we're not used to doing it regularly. The person doing my toes hurt my toe by filing it too close to the skin (started bleeding a bit under the nail). She also put an oil (quick-drying I assume...) on my toes at the end and it made all the nail polish spread all over my toes and it looked horrible! I may have to go get my toes redone tomorrow before my wedding or just call it a loss. I'm really disappointed as they came highly recommended. read more

Came in for partial highlights (assuming 15-20 foils) after getting an email with a 10% off coupon. Used a junior stylist who suggested I use a second shade to "add depth". We were going for a "sun kissed look". She ended up bleaching the entire top section of my head with three(!) different colors of light blond in many different size blocks, and a small chunk from ear to crown on each side!!! I've never seen anything like it. I instantly brought it to her attention and she did offer to add "lowlights" in my natural shade of blond free of charge but given the crazy bleach job I got, I was too afraid to let her near me. THEN, I got up to pay and they totally overcharged me - citing the use of 3 colors and an exceptionally high number of foils!! When I balked, he actually tried to argue with me. We finally "agreed" on the quoted price and I drove home near tears. It felt like I was being scammed! I am so glad I didn't let them cut it. God only knows what I would've ended up with. I wish I could post pictures. If you use this place 1) don't use a junior stylist (they are not supervised and clearly are not qualified on their own and 2) bring lots of extra money or be prepared to argue. Never again for me!!! I will pay extra and use my usual salon where they are specially trained to be colorists. read more

Went in with a bridal party to get a Mani and pedi. They told the bride they were experienced and would be able to do all of us quickly and efficiently despite only having one station for Mani and pedi. Unfortunately it took 4 and a half hours to do all of us and we heard that the people doing our nails were hair stylists who didn't like doing nails very much. The Mani went pretty well, the manicurist paid very close attention to detail but mine and another girl's nails chipped before the wedding even started. The pedi was a bit disappointing, I left with rough skin still on my heels and paint around the edges of my toes. The brides toes looked terrible too. The pedicurist dropped some sort of oil on her toes at the end which made the paint spread out and all over her skin. Now it wasn't a terrible experience and the ladies were very nice and friendly but for almost $50 including tip, our nails should have looked a lot better. read more

I loved that all the products were organic. It's a small salon, but I had a great cut by Alex, the owner and will go back (I've been to 3 other salons in the past year to try and find someone who I like!). I'm not sure what Anonymous is talking about with Gabriel, but every time I've been in there, we've chatted up a storm and he's very friendly and helpful. Also, I believe they do have a salon software system because they looked up the kind of shampoo I was using for me the last time I was there and have always used their computer while I've visited. Prices are great and I appreciate the extra little scalp massage during the shampoo. I found Urban Style through the SpaFinder gift cards that we received. I'm glad we found it! Luckily, they were able to get us both in VERY last minute so that we could get our nails done before vacation. Our nail tech, Patty, was very friendly and knowledgeable and we had a nice time chatting with her throughout our appointments. We both thought that she was very thorough and did a nice job shaping our nails and painting mine. She also introduced me to the gel polishes that change colors with your body temperature, which are my new obsession. The ONLY downfall (which really wasn't a big deal) is that they have only one mani and pedi station so we couldn't get our nails done simultaneously. That being said, they told me this in advance and even offered me a discounted hair treatment, which I regrettably declined (next time for sure!). We will definitely be back for nails services and might try some hair services in the future. read more

Our daughter booked her bridal party at Urban Style for hair and make-up. She had a particular vision for her hair style for her wedding. Lori worked with her in a couple of practice sessions until the perfect look was achieved. On the day of the wedding, the salon provided food and beverages, and took special care of everyone, even the mother of the bride (who loved having her makeup done). I started going to Urban Style when my long-time stylist moved here. I do like the color product they used, but that's about it. Once I had an appointment scheduled with my stylist, only to find out she was sick. I really needed my hair colored, so I agreed to see another stylist. She did okay on the color (despite getting it all over my forehead) but the blow dry style she gave me was laughable. I do a better job on my own hair. To make matters worse, my stylist had always charged me $45 for color - both when I saw her previously and when she moved to Urban - and that included the blow dry. When this other chick did my hair as a stand-in, the "behind the counter dude" (owner? manager?) tried to charge me $75 for "color and style". Hell no. I quickly said that was not my stylist's price and not what I had paid at their salon before and he said okay, they wouldn't charge me. It just felt shady. I was relieved when my stylist stopped working here. read more
