My review of USM is challenging to write. USM is high quality modular furniture you can design to…read moreextraordinary specifications, BUT the responsiveness of the people at USM is abysmal. Initial responsiveness, let alone a return phone call was impossible to receive until multiple attempts over the course of a few months. Finally there was a breakthrough and the design and installation were executed on two pieces to a very high standard. We did so much, at one time, my residential account was the largest in the US. I am nearly complete with my USM home furnishings, but I have now been stalled over a year, perhaps approaching two years. There are smaller pieces remaining to design and install, but it is evident I am being treated as a low priority. Now that the bad news is out of the way, this modular furniture can be designed to incredible specificity to suit anyone's needs. It is very strong and highly utilitarian, adding tremendous storage and organization, but the color palette for the steel and glass, as well as configurations and lighting, make for something you can appreciate more for its aesthetics. You never tire of looking at it. The dimmable lighting can set the mood anytime you please. You can even add planters to add to your interior greenery and that is one of the features I have. USM offers modular functionality that can do nearly anything and serve a myriad of purposes. We achieved two pieces, one which became my cigar humidor and another larger piece serves so many purposes that my designer calls it the Swiss Army knife. Both are unique pieces and neither had been executed before. If I were evaluating solely on the utilitarian, aesthetic, and functional attributes to satisfy the most demanding requirements, USM would receive a five star rating unquestionably. However, USM is terribly frustrating to deal with when it comes to getting a response from them. They are at a one star or no stars when it comes to responsiveness. This is my quandary. They are nice people and good people at USM. They can work with you and do things only scant few can do to meet your requirements. However, there is quite a perceptible pushing you to the back burner when it comes to how they view you as a priority. You will no longer receive return phone calls, emails or even invitations once you fall off their radar, despite your attempts. You can even show up in their showroom speaking German with their people, leaving a written message, to no avail. Really, I tried... So where and how do you rate a business that can do so extraordinarily well, yet so poorly...? I am simply going to split the difference and your mileage may vary depending on how much weight you place on various components of a given evaluation. I will not struggle with this one any more than I have to and give them three stars.

I had a terrible experience with this antique dealer! I purchased 2 "antique" iron benches after…read morevisiting his store at 315 East 91st Street in New York, which he stated came from a famous hotel in the south of france, circa 1930. The price I agreed to pay Tom was based on the provenance of the benches--when they arrived (10 weeks later) from an address is Buenos Aires, Argentina, I became suspicious. After about 10 minutes of research on the internet, I discovered that they had recently been manufactured by a furniture seller in Buenos Aires and sent from their store. I anonymously contacted the manufacturer in Argentina the next day regarding these benches, and the manufacturer quoted a retail price that was almost 1/5 the price I was charged by Tom (as far as I know, this mand did not know of the shady transaction that had just occurred). I immediately contacted Tom with this evidence and his response was, "what do you want me to say, do you want your money back?". He insisted that I had to pay for the return shipping and would not send a check until he received the benches back in perfect condition. Surprisingly, Tom indeed sent me a refund check once he received the benches back. Just a bad experience all around.
