I totally agree Dixie was in bad shape when I picked him up. i believe Dixies health deteriorated after catheter was removed. prematurely at midnight. Seriously, it could have been left in until the following day at least.My Vet said that he could survive with bladder stones and he would operate in 2 weeks. We went in because of a problem with our cat. - Back story our two options were to euthanize or try medication and continue running tests to deal with this lifelong disease she had. Our dogs got in a scuffle over food and one hurt his eye. Being Sunday our vet was closed. We rushed our dog to the urgent care to look at his blood pooled eye. Even though they were very busy, the staff was honest with wait times and it didn't take too long to be seen. Both the nurse and the vet were personable to us and more importantly to our dog. They treated us as if we were the only patient they had seen. The vet even got down on my dogs level instead of putting him up on the table. We got the meds we needed and followed the recommendation to follow up with our vet that week. I'm happy to say my dog is fully recovered and as much as I hope to never be in that situation again, it gives me piece of mind knowing that in an emergency we can get such personable quality care. read more

I had written a review on 11-14-25. I need and want to add information. I think it was the vet team that worked on that night at Urgent Per Care that was rude and didn't know what was going on. They did not fulfill the duties of each persons role on this team. The vet that night said she was leery giving fluids to my cat because I had been in in 2022 with Zoe. She said the X-ray taken for hard stools indicated a heart problem. She didn't think giving fluids was not a good idea because of she had something wrong with her heart. So she didn't. When I took Zoe to my vet he prescribed 100cc of fluids. Well when I gave them tonight I was at the wrong angle to read the marks. I ended up giving her around 150cc. I got concerned because the Urgent Pet Clare- Millard Branch vet was leery to give fluids that night. I thought 150cc would be detrimental to my cat's heart. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the clinic to ask for more of an explanation as to what exactly was her heart condition. So I could let another Emergency Vet know the condition of her heart and what I had done. Audrey was the one to answered. She looked at the records and told me it said nothing about a heart condition. But did say hard stool. I was relieved and told Audrey so. She even said sorry about this. She volunteered to ask a vet about the 150cc. Which she did not have to do. I was told not to worry. Audrey also reassured me that the fluids collected in her leg was normal. Audrey was compassionate and understanding about my concern. She empathized that it can be disconcerting[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I now think it was the team that night at Urgent Pet Care- Millard Branch. incompetent drs. my dog swallowed a pill and they wouldn't even induce vomitting until after we talked to pet poison hotline. they wasted 30-40 minutes on treatment so my dog absorbed even more of the medicine. we knew what the dog swallowed and their drs should have the competence to know to induce vomitting. if they are that incompetent they should have a list of what to induce vomitting for. I've never been impressed with an er vet but this one was great! They made me an appt and we waited about 30 minutes to be seen. Vet was very kind and detailed. I appreciate the cost upfront. I felt it was super reasonable for an er visit. Blood work, X-ray , ultrasound and meds were $600. Vet was very honest about what she could and couldn't do at the er. They had all my records sent over to my normal vet before I even got there. I deeply appreciate er clinics that are honest, upfront, and reasonable with pricing. It's an er so I totally understand things will cost more. I would definitely recommend them, even though I hope you never need them! read more

I am updating my post that urgent pet care tried to get me to put my dog to sleep when they didn't do enough tests and jumped to too many conclusions way too early and if I would have listened to them. My would have been euthanized. Last April, They responded by telling me to take my dog to the University of Iowa to prove them wrong LOL, Proving them wrong is quite easy considering my dog is still alive and doing great, They refuse to accept the fact that they wanted to kill my dog. And I would not let them, and the veterinarian went on and on. To tell me how much pain he was in and it wasn't fair to him LOL, Also charging me $500 for a misdiagnosis. Emily Buhr is an amazing emergency vet! I took my 4 year old lab in after she was vomiting and couldn't walk. Emily took so much time and patience to run all the lab work and sit down and explain it to my family and me. She gave us all of our options and was supportive of anything we chose. They were great with my 7 month old pug Milo who needed emergency surgery on a Sunday night. The receptionist we dealt with when we arrived was very unfriendly. Our dog was sent home with us to monitor, but we were instructed to call back if her condition got worse. We then later spoke to the same receptionist on the phone when our dog had gotten worse and she was extremely rude and hung up on us. We were then forced to drive an hour to Lincoln. We will never be going back there and will make the hour drive in heartbeat because they were a thousand times better. read more

The good news about Urgent Pet Care West is the location, extended hours, and friendly vet techs. It's all I can honestly say for promoting a positive review. The rest is not pleasant and I really would have any Yelp reader re-consider this business if there are other options to take your pet elsewhere under emergency conditions. This review is not being given out of frustration or emotion but if given another opportunity, I would probably have driven an additional 10-15 miles to seek better treatment that doesn't focus on "upselling" products or unnecessary treatments because of an owner's emotional status of doing everything possible to either save the life of their pet or to cure the condition without feeling guilty of not doing everything possible to ensure restoration back to normalcy. They will make you fill out an online form or text them needed information about your pet before they are seen at a specific time. However, after filling out the information, they won't read it thoroughly, asking redundant questions that were originally filled out per their request. I respect the right of the business to reduce the transmission of COVID, but when 2 vet techs are having issues bringing your 54 lb. dog inside the office I don't see where this is helpful. If you are going to charge for specific treatments, I believe owners have the right to see you performing the treatment on their pet even if its from a distance. The vet (whom I have decided not to name) was professional over the phone but once again I didn't care for up selling expensive treatment options when I pushed for the least expensive route and seeing if this would be effective before pursuing other costlier options. Once I agreed to a particular treatment knowing the costs, I asked the vet to administer the medication before showing up to pick up my pet. Both vet techs who were very nice, told me they were unable to give my pet 2 pills because he wouldn't eat food hiding the pills. Without saying anything to them, I took an antibiotic and a pain pill and opened my dog's mouth and dropped both pills inside. This was another reason why I won't be bringing my pet back to this facility. I noticed there are good and poor reviews regarding this business. I am only providing information based on my experience from last night. This review was not written quickly upon arriving at home but after 8 hours of sleep and thoughtful reflection about last night and the care of my dog. I totally get that businesses need to make money especially during a pandemic but don't push expensive treatments first. Allow the owners to know all options and the costs upfront. The goal in my opinion is to provide comfort and reduce any pain but I am not a licensed veterinarian nor under the pressure of management to make additional money from honest customers. After reading this review, make choices based on ethical and moral principles vs emotions. If my pet survives during the next 48 hours, I will be thankful for not purchasing the unnecessary expensive treatments that would not have assured my pet's recovery. I brought my shar pei here a few weeks ago after he wouldn't stop throwing up (we are talking in excess of 12 times). Here's the good: 1. I needed somewhere fast and they got me in within a few hours. They also called when someone else cancelled so we got in even quicker than that. 2. My dog was calm with the technicians and in a good mood when they brought him back out to me. This might seem trivial, but my dog's ability to vibe-check is on another level, so I'm pretty sure they were gentle with him. 3. They identified and fixed the problem in a timely manner. They sent us home with medication that was effective. My dog was doing MUCH better within a few days. They texted to check in a couple of times after we left. 4. They were thorough - they checked multiple things that could be wrong and offered me a variety of possible treatment options. 5. They forwarded relevant info on to our regular vet. Here's the bad (kind of): 1. It's expensive. My visit was about $700 - all the tests and everything included. Which is hilarious considering I don't even go to the doctor myself bc I'm not willing to shell out that kind of money. BUT honestly, I don't care that much? I knew it wouldn't be cheap going in - it's an emergency vet. And I'd pay it again if I needed to. I understand some people don't have access to a lot of money - the cash for me was the entirety of my stimulus check I was saving and some from checking. But it's worth it to me to make sure my dog was okay. 2. The form-filling out and then phone call to re-ask you all the questions is kind of annoying. I was detailed af on the form. BUT I'm not mad - I get it. Some people might rush through the form, or maybe they just don't communicate or have a good system for getting the forms in front of your vet in a timely manner each visit. We did get there in a couple of hours from when I called which isn't much advance notice, and I'm sure they were busy so it wasn't a big deal. So overall, I had a good experience. I'd go again if my dog needed emergency care, and would generally recommend it to others. The cost could be prohibitive for some. For me I'd basically have sold my car to afford it if I had to, but I also don't have any kids or anyone who really depends on me financially so that's a realistic option for me. I can see how others with kids or someone who relies on you could have to make some really tough decisions here so idk. Maybe they should look at Afterpay or Klarna as an option for payment so pple can pay in a few installments or something. That would make it much more effective in my opinion. read more

If I could give this place a 0/10 I would!! I brought in my dog which is a Pit/Lab mix into this place to have them look at her tail. When I got in they automatically treated my dog like she was most aggressive dog in the world. They put us in a room which was fine but then not one person introduced themselves to my dog... they stayed in the door way of the room. They throw two different size muzzles into the room on the counter and said put one on her. So I did. Then the doctor came into look at it and she didn't even touch her tail or even look at it, she stayed in the doorway. She just said yes we will take the whole tail off. Which at this point I was crying, she left the room without even trying to easy my mind.. then a lady came back with the bill by reaching her arm into the room to the table an placing it on there... like she couldn't even hand me a bill that was $1k. Like really lady. Then they came back to put her out for the surgery. And they were so scared they had me pin her down by myself and handed me the needle and asked me to hold it there for her so she could use one finger to push the needle solution into her hip. I WAS SHOCKED!!!! After my dog was out like a light, they came back in and asked me to pick her up by myself and lay her down on the little carry table thing they have. So I did. After my dog was in the back, I went to ask if I could go outside and be back when she was out of surgery and the front desk lady yelled at me, and at this point I already paid the $1k for this. She said I could leave if I left my card with her. Like what no. I already paid. they told me to stay in the room until she was out of surgery. I had to sit in a room at midnight waiting hours. And I couldn't leave the clinic at all. Not one person cared about my dog, not one person cared to be a decent human at all to us. It was so sad to see my nice dog get treated so terrible for just the mix she is. I got treated terrible too like if I was someone that was going to leave and never come back for my dog. It was over all the worse experience I have ever had with my dog. She is so loving and caring. The evening worker lydia was so rude to me and my dog. There were more people there but I didn't get their names. Over all terrible place to go if you have a dog of this bleed. I got in at 10pm and everyone on shift at this time was so rude. And have no care in the world for how the dog or owner feels. read more

Avoid if at all possible, although unfortunately there are very limited options for 24 hr animal care in Omaha. (Maybe try the Papillion location - we had a better experience there about a year and a half ago.) Our dog ingested a couple handwarmers and our vet recommended we take our dog here based on the recommendations from the pet poison hotline for 24 hr care, IV, and check for acidosis (possible iron toxicity). We were hesitant that it was even necessary since our dog was behaving perfectly normal, other than having thrown up the stuff he ate, and asked for an estimate. On the phone, our vet was told by a doctor at Urgent Pet Care that it would be $600-$800. After some deliberation, we decided to error on the side of caution and take him in. But then when we got to Urgent Pet Care, around 8:00pm, we were given an estimate for $840-$2000 (for potential 48 hrs of care). I asked specifically how much it would be for the 24 hours and was told the low end = $840. After an overnight of normal readings and good reports from the UPC staff, I told them we were going to come pick up our dog. They were not happy about that at all. They wanted to run some additional blood and acidosis tests before we pick him up so I asked how much our bill would be. They said we were at $750 and the additional tests would be another $250! It had been only 15 hrs since he was admitted. When I complained how the estimate for the 24 hr care had already jumped from the $600-$800 estimate that they gave our vet, they gave us their probably "standard" line - "A rough estimate was given before the doctor was able to see the patient based on what was told to the doctor, but then once the exam was done the doctor on staff made her estimate based on the best treatment plan." This is a bunch of BS. Our vet and the UPC relied pretty much entirely on the recommendations from the pet poison hotline, which were provided prior to the initial estimate. The doctor on staff at UPC did not even examine our dog. The tech took his temp and listened to his heart. The doctor did not even touch the dog during the "exam." Additionally, once we told them we were going to pick up our dog, they tried to scare us by saying that he had dark-colored diarrhea with digested blood most likely from iron toxicity with gastric intestinal ulceration (they even wrote this on the discharge papers). Sounds scary, right? But when I asked them if they saw blood, or tested for blood, they said no - that is was probably the iron and charcoal from the handwarmers. So maddening!! And then, to top things off, when I get our dog home, I noticed he had dark-colored diarrhea all over his behind, legs, and underside of his tail (he is black so I didn't notice it initially). And anywhere he sat would leave a stain. I was concerned at first, thinking, wow maybe he does have really bad diarrhea, so bad that they couldn't even keep him cleaned up. But, no, once I washed him off he didn't making any other mess. I hope it isn't true, but I feel like they were just mad that we picked him up against their recommendation and left him a mess. read more

The assistants will go back and forth to the "doctor" to relay critical communication but you will never get to speak to the coward vet who is unwilling to help your obviously ill pet if you don't dig deep in your pockets for unnecessary services. He tried to bait and switch us to dish out hundreds for a secondary dog symptom instead of trying to help our pet with the primary and obvious concerns. I would say that this is a good place to take your animal if they are needing to be looked at. We had to utilize this place when our pup was undergoing some issues and needed overnight care while he was getting fluids pumped over night. I received a text (as opted) every 6 hours to let us know how he was doing. We had to pay up front as per their policy and I felt that it was a bit high but for round the clock care, how could you go wrong when your animal needs it. The doc and assistant were very throughout. I appreciate this service that was offered. My only complaint was there candy dish with candy in it was all very sticky. When I asked her a couple of questions trying to understand how she made a diagnosis after 30 seconds and why she would not explore other possibilities. No one ever wants to be in a situation where their beloved animal needs help and its a weekend/after hours. Such was the case with our beloved 16 yr old cat. It was a Saturday and suddenly he went limp. We heard this place was decent so we gave them a try. They were wonderful. They sent regular texts to us and we were able to visit him whenever we wanted (and they encouraged it) and they updated us by phone. I had not gone with to drop him off so we decided to stop by on Sunday since we'd be in the area. We got to hold him and the vet (the sweetest vet) came in and we said a little prayer for him. I was touched! The next day we picked him up and they had prepared a DVD for us and everything our regular vet needed. We took him to his regular vet but he only lived another day as cancer was destroying him. It's never easy to say good-bye to a pet but the compassion and care from Urgent Pet Care really helped make his last days a bit more comfortable. They are a bit pricey but they also are there when you need them. Thanks to all for being there for families! read more

I keep meaning to leave an AMAZING review for this place! They have saved each of my dogs life once now. Each time being kind, considerate, and prompt. They ease my mind when I come in and are always so good with my dogs. The last time we were there my dog had water intoxication. I was beyond upset and worried. They helped me get him where he needed to be, helped us make it quiet for him since he can be reactive, examined him with such patience, and in the end saved him. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I took my bird here because she broke her leg. They said that she broke here femur and wrapped the leg up and told me to see my regular vet in a week. I saw my regular vet only to find out that wrapping it was doing absolutely nothing for the fracture and that it was not her femur that was broken but instead her tibia. This is literally anatomy 101. It is not hard to tell apart a femur from a tibia. I am appalled and disgusted by the lack of knowledge. read more

Our Golden Retriever was so sick, we weren't sure she would make it through the night. On advice from our veterinarian, we brought her to Urgent Pet Care West for overnight care. We arrived and immediately felt our dog would be in good, caring hands. She was given fluids and pain medication through the night. When we arrived first thing in the morning, we were so happy to see her with brighter eyes and wagging tail. The staff and doctor were absolutely wonderful, caring and compassionate. Absolute joke of an "urgent" veterinary clinic. They provide the worst possible service, and as others have said, they absolutely do not care about your pet. We took our 15 year old dog in who had been disoriented, falling over, and badly suffering. We had no idea what was wrong with him but needed to get him in some place, and since it was the weekend, was forced to go here. We had to wait basically all day for an appointment at 4:30, so if you have an actual pet emergency, don't expect to just walk in and get help. The assistant came in and did the basic stuff and said the vet would be in shortly. We waited AN HOUR and then asked if the vet even remembered we were there and were told "she's finishing up in the room next to you and will be in with you in a few minutes". 20 minutes later and the assistant comes in again and says that the vet wants to take our dog in the back room to examine him and then will come in and talk to us after. Why in the world would that be needed? We have a scared dog that's been sitting here for over an hour and now the vet needs to "examine him in the back"? Extremely weird and sketchy. When we told the assistant that we would not allow him to be taken back and asked if the vet could examine him in the room with us, she became extremely rude and argumentative. We again said that he would be staying with us and asked if the vet could come in the room, and the assistant rolled her eyes and closed the door on us as we were still talking. A few minutes later, and nothing so we just decided to leave. Do not go here if you can avoid it, we got much quicker and far better service from our regular vet. They could not care less about helping your pet, and it's especially disappointing since the animals that are coming here need genuine help and they're not getting it. It's sad and unfortunate that more animals will continue to suffer because of the laziness, selfishness, and incompetence of the staff and "doctors" here. read more

What a wonderful place to go in your time of need! Our veterinary hospital was closed for the weekend when our 18 year old kitty PJ, decided to tell us it was time for her to go to sleep now, and cross the beautiful Rainbow Bridge. Our own veterinary clinic recommended Urgent Pet Care West to us incase our PJ picked a time when they would not be open and available. On a Sunday afternoon, we told our sweet kitty good bye while surrounded with the loving care of the Urgent Pet Care West staff, and Dr. Buhr. Dr. Buhr was loving and kind with PJ and I. When we needed her most, she was there. I appreciated everything they did to see us through this terribly sad afternoon. I highly recommend their care and convenient hours for you and your pet. They knew that the previous clinic did something wrong to my cat because apparently the other clinic called them for heads up that I was not happy about what they did to my cat( I did not make a scene or yell, I just took my cat out of there and refused that they further treat my cat and walked out). When I got there to have them take a look at my cat ( who was in their care on the weekend). Dr Younker ( the owner) was rude and wouldn't listen to me and left the room and 20 minutes later he sends me a bill with nurse asking$ 100+ to take a look at my cat !!!
