    We're a small collective that shares stories from freelance and contract workers who've been…read moretreated unfairly. This is one of those stories. A contractor was hired by this company to build a fully functional website on a rushed timeline. They were told they were the only person working on the project, and that the urgency was due to the company's former developer being in a legal dispute and planning to take down the live site by June 1st, 2025. The contractor dropped everything to help and finished the site two weeks before the deadline. Over the course of several weeks, the contractor even went to their office multiple times for meetings with the owner's son and other team members, working in good faith to move the project forward.After the work was done, it came to light that two or three other people were also working on the same site, despite the company claiming otherwise from the start. When the contractor followed up for payment, the owner's son who was the main point of contact allegedly said "My boy could do it for less than $1,000, so our initial agreement on price is gonna be a lot less now." He also added he was going on vacation in 15 days and "didn't have time to deal with it." All this while wearing an expensive Rolex. The contractor was told, "Send me the invoice I'll pay you for your time." The invoice was sent immediately, and the son followed up once more saying, "I'll get back to you." After that, he went completely silent no reply, no payment. The contractor was left dismissed and disrespected. The stress and anxiety from this on top of an existing heart condition led to serious mental and physical strain. Legal steps have since been taken. This post is meant to warn others if you're a freelancer, contractor, or subcontractor, be cautious. Get everything in writing, and don't ignore red flags. No one should be pressured, misled, ghosted, or lowballed after showing up, putting in the time, and delivering their end of the deal.

    I live in South Lawrence. And I am sure that many of those that have suffered from Sept 13…read moreColumbia Gas situation will agree. It has not been easy. The professionals that came to do the streets, electrical, replace gas inhouse pipe and the plumbers that put in the furnace and hot water heater were professional and caring in the beginning months. But it was the multiple visits in between that drove me crazy. (From what I found out to be 2nd and 3rd party's who said they worked for CG but did not.) I found out that CG didn't have my dryer order even after 15 orders were taken. It was the last thing I needed. Just before my dryer was delivered. I had 2 very horrible visits from 2nd or 3rd party people representing someone. (Not CG employees and yes they had the cg tags around their necks) I called CG and told them give me my dryer and that I was going to hire someone. Sure enough CG came with it and put it in the basement. (Friday) I called Kerry Martin as I wanted to give a fellow South Lawrence business. (He is also impacted) Told them I had Monday off. Kerry came along with his helper and within 2 1/2 hours he was done. He got the permit in Andover, did the gas connection and also the duct work. Very, very professional and caring. Both his wife and him understood why I hired them. Due to the multiple visits going through CG doing the dryer work would have resulted. It was like a mountain dropped off my shoulders. The sad part was that I was so use to CG multiple visits after they did work. That I was looking out the window and waiting for knocks on the door. If you are currently dealing with CG gas related situations. Or one of those who in the spring will be. (Those who had things fixed and relit) And don't want to go through the hassles and multiple visits from CG reps. I suggest hiring Kerry Martin. AND YES I DID SUBMIT THE PAID INVOICE TO MY ADJUSTER. AND THEY REIMBURSED ME. So just tell CG to deliver and leave and hire Kerry. No hassles etc. Very caring and helpful. You are also helping a business family/business owners who went through September 13th, 2018 and know exactly what it was like that day, night, weekend and what we are going through now and in the future. I will always keep his number near by.
