This quaint B&B…read moreis only a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway (maybe 5-8 minutes driving) and about 15-20 minutes drive to the Stone Mountain park. It is out of the way down a long driveway, and most likely you'll be greeted by their super friendly dog, Hunter. Jim and Margaret are great hosts, providing freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and lemonade upon arrival. The check-in process is short and sweet and they are available when you need them, but the place is big enough to give enough privacy despite the community spaces. I surprised my bf for his birthday and we came up just for one night. We stayed in the Yosemite room and it was perfect. The king bed was super comfortable, and the room had a ceiling fan, flat screen tv, electric fireplace (for ambiance and/or for heat), and the bathroom had a shower and a jacuzzi tub. It was right around the corner from the kitchen, so in terms of noise, you do hear the clinging and clanging of cooking and cabinets/drawers closing, but it wasn't a major issue for us. If you're sensitive to noise, then I would suggest getting a room on the second floor instead. Our room leads off to an external entrance to the back balcony/porch area so we could come and go from the back door instead of going through the house/common area which was nice. There is always access to coffee (fresh brewed in the morning or a Keurig for afternoon) and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Upstairs, there is a small fridge that has complimentary can sodas and bottles of water for guests to have. I put our bottle of champagne there to chill. The highlight of the stay of course was the breakfast promptly served at 8:30a. We woke up to a beautiful spread and shared a nice breakfast with nice conversation with 12 other guests. It was family style, so we passed the food around and around until we were all miserably/happily stuffed. Margaret's famous cinnabuns were really delicious - super sweet and fresh. Overall - Everything was clean and just really done well with nice subtle touches throughout the B&B (ie. light music in the background of the common areas, fresh cut flowers in the bathroom and bedside, foaming bubble bath by the tub with a pillow, several candles in the room to assist with creating a romantic ambiance, super plush robes and Bath & Body Works shower products (soaps, shampoo, etc) to use... We definitely hope to come back and enjoy/relax again in the near future :)

This cozy little cabin has a loft bedroom with one bed and a half bath. Downstairs is a living room that is equipped with a pull out sofa bed, perfect of an eight-year-old. The grey stone fireplace and chimney occupy the center of the structure and are beautiful. The full kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, coffee-maker, cups, coffee, tea and there was a plate of fresh-baked cookies waiting for us on the table when we arrived. Just off the kitchen is a full bathroom with a fantastic Jacuzzi tub. But the piece de resistance: the most perfect "settin' porch" overlooking the creek behind. No kidding, the perfect spot for your morning coffee! In the mornings, we walked up the hill to the main house log home with another amazing porch. The innkeepers make a homemade sumptuous breakfast every morning. On the first morning, there was fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, baked grits. On the second morning, we had shirred eggs with ham, waffles, Moravian sugar bread, fruit salad. We enjoyed the breakfast at a common table with other guests, sharing our stories of our journeys and adventures. Delish!!

This is an opportunity to plug back into nature. Mornings with coffee on the back porch watching the sun rise over the mountain range, afternoons tubing down the New River. Evenings having dinner while listening to live music at Creek Bottom Brewery. The Vintage View cabin is our top pick. Super cozy and comfortable. The hosts are amazing. A Picture-Perfect Pit Stop at the Virginia Welcome Center…read more One of our favorite traditions on long road trips is stopping at welcome centers as we cross state lines, and the Virginia Welcome Center ended up being the standout of our entire trip north. Easy on, easy off the highway, plenty of space to move around, and a layout that makes traveling with a dog a breeze. Visiting in November was perfect. The whole place looked like a Bob Ross painting come to life -- leaves everywhere in shades of red, orange, and yellow, with wide walking paths stretching through the trees. Our dog was in absolute heaven, running through the leaves and exploring every corner of the trails. The welcome center itself has interesting history and signage to browse, and while the building and bathrooms are standard fare, the real magic here is outside. The walking paths, green space, and peaceful atmosphere make this an ideal spot to stretch your legs, breathe in the fall air, and reset before continuing your drive. A beautiful, refreshing stop and easily one of the best welcome centers we've visited. Highly recommend pulling over here -- especially in the fall -- for a peaceful break during your road trip.

We were hiking in…read moreGrayson Highlands in the Winter and Wade let us stay at the campground out of season when no other campers were around. Most of the camp sites appeared to have water, electricity, and a fire pit. Wade had firewood waiting for us when we arrived. The restrooms and showers were clean. We didn't do anything related to horses during our stay, but the stables and facilities for horses seemed nice. Best of all (for hikers) there are National Forest Service trails directly accessible from the campground. You can walk directly from the campground to trails that climb a bald hill with a beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. We hope to return someday!

Stayed on this property for a family reunion. At the "big house" aka Mountain View Lodge:…read more Window units only in the upstairs bedrooms. One window unit contained dead animal, rendering it useless. No air conditioning in the common areas and even though it's in the mountains, it was humid and miserable. Multiple water leaks. Bushes outside totally overgrown and three people were stung by hornets at the front door (on different days). Laundry room in house is accessible by all cabins on the property, so people you don't know can be on the property washing clothes any time. At Blue Ridge Cabin, the two bedroom cabin with loft has one window air conditioner which is not sufficient to cool the cabin. The shower is about 30 inches wide and the shower head is basically fixed, so there is no escaping the water. This cabin is advertised as having closets in both bedrooms, but that is not true. There is no closet in the second bedroom, and no mirror, and no place to put a suitcase. Only a bed and a nightstand. We stayed here for three nights living out of a suitcase on the floor. Sheets were 180 count, 50% polyester, and vintage. They came off at night because the elastic on the fitted sheet was totally dry rotted. Futon would not fold out to a bed (broken) and as a couch it was not comfortable, since the mattress hung off the frame despite my attempts to straighten it up. Availability calendar showed no one in the units on the days before us, but they came to mow and weed eat before I was awake the second morning (why didn't they go ahead and mow before we came?). No broom in the cabin so could not sweep up all the grass clippings we tracked in. Floors turned our socks black. This property has great potential as an area for family reunions but desperately needs improvement. Overall, in its present condition, I would never recommend this property.

I was surprised these cabins rent for $135 per night (with a $35 cleaning fee per stay, and $10 pet fee) year round. We stayed two nights and had a great time. The cabin was well stocked with just about everything we needed minus food. The Jacuzzi tub was a wonderful addition. Cabins are pet friendly and we were left a goodie bag for our "fur babies". The Mountains-to-Sea trail runs at the end of the driveway to these cabins, which was a nice bonus to be able to go on a nice hike that close to our cabin.

They have picnic shelters, seating areas along the trails, and an abundance of wildlife. This park is pet friendly and has tennis/pickleball courts as well as a swimming pool. The main trail through the park is paved, however, there are side trails for the more adventurous types. This park is a must-see if you're in the area and enjoy the outdoors!
