Before writing this review, I took a moment to really review the US Mailroom's site. I have been a happy customer of US Mailroom for well over 10 years. It's a great location with friendly people. I normally box up my returnsint my own label but recently suffered a family emergency and didn't get aroreturnsund to prepping my return. I've been busy, hadn't visited the store in a while, and because I was confused by US Mailrooms ability to process my ordinary Amazon "print label" barcode return type vs QR code (fyi. I learned "print label" returns accepted but QR aren't accepted) I placed a call ahead of my visit. During my call, I asked the person on the line about the options available to me and they kindly answered my questions. Or so I thought. So a week later when I entered US Mailroom, I was completely unprepared for the rude awakening that awaited me. I just wanted to make a return with a prepaid label. My true and COSTLY error was entering US Mailroom without first ensuring my box was TAPED AND READY to ship AND my label was aleady printed AT HOME and affixed to the box. I was charged for EVERYTHING: the taping of the box and the printing of the label. Here's the thing. US Mailroom is a business and not a charity. And it would be silly to believe you can enter the store and be served for free. However US Mailroom borders on deceptive practices, at worst, and icky practices at best for not being transparent about their "nickle and dime" pricing of the services they offer. Attached I have disclosed my receipt. Signage indicating US Mailroom provides directions to send your labels to them for convenient printing is posted on every register. BUT it doesn't disclose IN WRITING the service is paid. On their website, they boast many services but also do not disclose the true minutiae of how very itemized pricing plays into their business model. Why is that? I imagine US Mailroom relies on the customer's desire (desperation) to both avoid USPS and simply send the package off in that moment (cost be damned) versus grabbing your package and taking their business elsewhere. I was truly exhausted by the time I got to US Mailroom. With every "that'll cost ya" by the nice lady behind the counter, I felt repulsed. I frequently use UPS and even Wholefoods for Amazon returns that simply don't require money for returns. On one hand, I understand US Mailroom has to make money and enforces this policy to ensure that it is profitable. However I called a week in advance and asked questions regarding what I should do/what to expect. If this is a new policy or even a 5-year-old policy how come the gentleman I spoke to didn't mention it cost money to not only print a label but use their tape! For that reason, I feel US mailroom is misleading customers. Exhausted after caring for an elderly parent, I felt like I had no choice (no energy) but to use their service. But in reality, I felt price gouged and cheated in that moment. US Mailroom should be more transparent with their pricing. What's sad is, while standing in line, I noticed they offered a shredding service and I wanted to ask them about their rates. I was prepared to give them my business! But by the time I got my $3.50 receipt for purchases of using tape and a printed label I was too repulsed and turned off to even ask them about their shredding service. Had I known I would be charged from everything from the tape used on the box to the label, I would have done everything myself at home and driven to the United States Postal Service and proudly stood in line. At least there I would know what the actual cost would be to me as a customer. Truth be told, the post office is annoying but I've never left it feeling cheated and lied to. To US Mailroom: There is a right way to do friendly business. Post the TRUE cost of your "convenient" services on signs. You say you offer unparalleled service? Then disclose prices, visible in writing (not spring it, spoken in realtime as the customer stands in shock discovering nothing is free or "friendly" about your service) Give the customer the chance to make the informed choice. Do better. After over a decade giving you business, the friendly "one stop shop" concept was lost on me today. The idea of US Mailroom seems like an amazing alternative to a congested USPS or UPS, if not for some unfortunate policies they uphold. read more

Whenever I come here I always laugh. These guys have great chemistry like brothers in my opinion so it has a family feel. Point I'm always greeted with a genuine smile when I enter unless they're overcrowded which isn't often. That's not to be confused with them not being busy because it's always busy but they get you in and out in a jiffy which is awesome sauce I had to get another passport because mines expired and I was only getting information. I was told I could go online to print out the application and the cost for it and the photo. As I'm writing it down I get ready to go... I'm handed some papers and it was the passport application I was happy lol but really I was because that was extremely thoughtful. I didn't have to ask which was so I returned the very next day (today) to send my passport application. This among other reasons is why I love coming here. This is the best PMB in Philly. They are friendly, personable, professional and funny. The guys here make every visit a personal one for regulars like myself. The place is small granted but the service is gigantic. You can get most services here that's you'd get at a post office except you always get awesome experience. Yes. Awesome. In and out. They even have packaging materials, cards, lotto box lol, and an atm machine. You can even rent a P.O. Box. I've used their services for over 3 years since I moved to Philadelphia. They made me feel appreciated and special. They are all so friendly if you don't believe me come in and see. They are open during the week until 7 and Saturday they close at 3. read more

I walked in and needed to send something. It was my first time every going there. The lady behind the desk was very kind and helpful. The bald white guy was very passive aggressive and disrespectful. I'm unsure if he lacks social cues or what but he was very rude and intentionally dismissive. Which I found very odd considering I'm paying you for a service. Beyond unprofessional, their prices don't match up either. Save yourself the trouble and go to penn copy center. read more

This business is owned by a nice young, efficient, guy. His employee...not so much. So as not to bore you with details, let me say this employee and I had an angry exchange that ensued because he thought it was OK to go toe to toe with me when it was quite obvious I was perturbed. He actually was more sarcastic, and used language that he knew would be insulting and sharp in order to send the message that he wanted to hurt me...and he did. I decided to do an online review. The owner responded public on line which is fine, and let me know he heard the exchange and found nothing wrong with the employees treatment of me. I noticed that he-the owner felt that way about every negative review his business received. That in fact the customer was wrong and his employee or himself was right. Sir, that isnot how good business owners respond to negative input. But it's your business and obviously my issue won't make or break you. read more

Hijacked price. Rude service. Not great experience. Wouldn't go back because they over charged on everything

Highly do not recommend the auction pick-up, pack, and ship service. I was charged $100 to ship a piece of vellum, which, with the box, was barely 3 lbs. But I would have paid much more to have them follow my specific shipping instructions! Instead, they shipped a 70 year old piece of art on paper by rolling it in a plastic mailer and shoving that in a cardboard box. The long edge of the paper was ripped and one side of the short edge was slightly crushed, even though I specifically requested that the item be wrapped around a small stiff tube and shipped inside a larger stiff tube to protect against creases and damage. Not a hard request to follow, especially for 5x shipping cost. Never again. read more

I had a very disturbing experience at your store today. I entered the store around the 5 pm hour to have a 2-page document faxed. There were 2 young men and a young lady behind the counter. The young men were both arrogant, condescending and racist in their manner towards me, The young man that faxed the document did so and then left before the transaction was complete, he never returned. When I asked the other young man if he could check whether or not the faxing was completed he replied, "Hey, I didn't wait on you." which I in turn replied you didn't have to. The young lady completed the transaction given that the other young man did not return. I know the Bala Cywnyd area well and have witnessed the demographic shift in that area. I have noticed that some of the merchants, including the two young men, at the shopping center have taken a racist, arrogant and condescending attitude towards customers of color, in particular towards African Americans. I highly suggest that if serving African Americans is a problem for these two young men that they seek employment elsewhere. I for one will inform other African Americans of the treatment to expect if they choose to shop there. read more

I have been coming here for a few years. My frustration with the molasses like speed at which the staff at my local USPS drove me here. I think the prices are a bit more (for certain services) than regular usps but I rather pay the tiny extra than wait on line for 20mins at a post office with one clerk operating ever so slowly as the queue continues to grow. Also, I have to send items via multiple couriers and I really do not have the time to run to each local office. At US Mailroom, I can mail my USPS, Fedex, UPS, DHL..buy stamps, make copies, fax, notary, take my passport pix AND get a good laugh from the very friendly staff. One stop shopping and I appreciate the convenience. What's not to love? read more

The mailroom I used to go to in northeast philly was a miserable experience but these guys make packing and shipping fun. And efficient! There was no line to speak of and I was able to drop off my UPS, FedEx, and USPS all at the same spot. Great experience and I will be back for all my shipping needs! My shipment that packaged by US Mailroom arrived today and I just wanted to say the packing job was great and everything looks great. This was a large (oversized) ceramic vessel I purchased at an auction house in that area that I needed shipped halfway across the country from Philadelphia to Kansas City. I don't know if I'll be needing anything shiooed from that area in the future, but if I do US Mailroom will be the service I turn to first. The guys that run this place are my boys!! I started coming here when I moved into the neighborhood and I needed a reliable place for emergency faxing and copying services. I love it how they will strike up a short convo with you and say something funny that will send you on your way smiling. Even when I haven't been there in a while, I'll go in and they're like "Hey!! Where've you been, girl?!?" It makes you feel good to be remembered. It's also pretty cool when you run into various Channel 6 and 10 news casters and they have their "TV makeup" on. They're just regular young friendly dudes that provide a large variety of services and know how customers should be treated. read more

I'm so upset this relationship didn't work out as the mailroom I usually go to is totally out of my way and this is right on my daily commute. The higher stars because the guys who work here are awesome! Friendly, funny and you can tell they have a real good time. Despite being somewhat busy at rush hour time, they packaged my gift up in just a few minutes (just in time for me to run to Michaels Crafts next door) but the shipping was super expensive. I know there's not much they could do about that, but I wound up leaving with my securely wrapped package which they certainly did do a great job with. That part was priced very comparable to what I'm used to paying elsewhere. Maybe you'll have better luck with your shipping costs, but definitely give them a shot at the wrapping aspect! It's a lot easier and cheaper than buying and storing all of the different packaging supplies yourself. I often opt for the professionals to wrap my fragile business packages to ensure their absolute safety when shipping, especially over seas. They do have a few unique greeting cards for sale I picked up. Those weren't so cheap either though. Whomp, whomp.... read more

I go to the U.S. mailroom at least three times a week... Since I own and operate a small business out of a shoe box with limited resources these guys are basically my admin staff. Sean does vehicle titles, registrations and notary- and many of these services actually cost less than going to the pa dmv AND will save you a ton of time. Bob has shipped countless packages, documents, overnight envelopes and supplies for me and he's always fast and efficient. Finally, Eric is always a huge help with anything else I need- copies, pdf email documents- shipping supplies and more. He even does pick up of antiques for customers as well as mobile shredding. These guys do it all. My only suggestion- change the name to: "get shit done room" If you have a small business or you just need any of these services done - I strongly suggest renting a mailbox and hiring these guys as your full time administrative staff. Came here to get a form notarized. I didn't ask the price beforehand, an error I'll be sure never to repeat. To get one single page notarized cost $15! I have never seen a notary fee that high, ever. The notary fee charged at US Mailroom appears to be fully three times the maximum fee permitted under PA state law: http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/notaries_fees/12638 The notary did make a single photocopy of the form upon my request, and notaries are permitted by law to charge extra fees for such services. Those fees are not limited under PA law. So maybe he charged me $5 for the notarization and $10 for the photocopy? Of course when I told my mom this story she informed me that many banks offer notary services to their customers for *free*. D'oh! At least I know for next time, and maybe this information will help keep you from paying more than you anticipated next time you need a notary. read more

Used this service in the past and never truly felt comfortable or glad about it. I thought it was better than having to travel to multiple shipping places to send back items but the banter back and forth between the owners/employees and the customers makes me uncomfortable. Some - and many do - find it funny. I find it to be rude. I much rather a professional setting than the feeling of walking awkwardly into a strangers living room conversation. Oh AND I have to give them my money. I brought a bunch of packages (with labels and some without) for them to ship. I wasn't asked about preferences or how I would like certain items shipped until he called out the final costs for it. One package I refused to ship with them because the flat rate shipping at the USPS is less than the quote I was given. Sadly, I had one item that didn't have a package but I had brought the label with me. I repeatedly brought that up to the person assisting me. I paid and left the item on the counter as he was completing the shipping, or so I thought. Weeks later this item has yet to arrive at its destination. I checked the tracking and the label was never scanned in. I believe it sat on the counter and got tossed. That was an item I was seeking a refund for. Great if this environment works for you. I think I will stick to Amazon locker returns and having the mailman pick it up at my door step. Still not going to the post office but I am never returning to US Mailroom. read more

I've been using this place for a while when to send priority mail to a friend. Since the post office is closed and like most people I work 9-5 and is nowhere near a post office, I've been using them. Unlike the post office, not only are there flexible hours but never any huge line, and non grumpy workers. As a matter of fact, the guys are very sociable and very helpful when you come here. And while the Post Office is undergoing cuts, there will be probably less time I can go to them, so its good to have such a reliable service when I don't have the post office around. read more

My experience at this establishment was particularly bad, because of a man, I believe Sean, who said he was the manager. Overall, he made this experience unnecessarily awful and confrontational. This is unacceptable and I hope another customer does not have to experience this type of treatment. He taped my two boxes (I didn't ask for this to be done, and could have bought tape in their store) and printed labels for them (I did request this to be done, but was not made aware of the cost). I was then notified of the price AFTER the service. I have no problem paying for services, which said was the case. I then asked why I wasn't told this before---he said, "You should have asked." He then said, "Things aren't free around here. What type of place do you think this is?" This assumes I was asking for free services, which I was not, just wanting to know I was going to pay before having to hand over money. I don't know why he said these things, considering my question was "What am I paying for?" He continued to repeat these statements when a simple apology for not asking me if I wanted him to tape my boxes, or how much this would cost, would have worked. This place is a joke. In my first experience, they refused to abide by a specific UPS directive NOT to drop off packages insured for over a certain amount of money to employees at such outlets but to hand them directly to drivers at such locations (or no insurance claim could be made if package lost). When I asked when UPS made its normal pickup at the location so I could meet the driver, I was told I could NOT meet the driver there (as if he could stop me). When informed of the UPS directive, guy said "We do it all the time." I vowed never to go back, But then I made the horrible mistake of going back in a hurry to get documents notarized figuring what's the worst that could happen? Well, $40 for 4 pages is what happened. I just got ripped off at this location. Since I was in a hurry and had to ship this package which was less than 3lbs I agreed to pay thinking ok, a convience fee added to regular shipping rate. Boy was i wrong. Found out my package for usps only cost 7 bucks to ship with delivery signature but this place charged me 21 bucks. Guy even gave me this line " this address is in a remote place". Thought this is a nice place to come to for shipping packages. Last time im going in there. No one should either. Already told everyone at my office thia already so they know.
