My name is clearly printed on the mailbox. There is no reason why I should not be getting my mail. For some reason, though, I don't get a lot of my mail. How much of it? Well, of the stuff I am definitely expecting, I get less than half. Who knows of the stuff I haven't been expecting? I could be called for jury duty, for all I know. Important stuff that went missing: Tax forms, pay stubs, and my brand new AAA cards. The *fourth* time I re-ordered the AAA cards, they finally came. I know that people aren't just stealing my mail, because it's a locked mailbox. My credit card information got stolen, so I had to have a new one shipped--this one thankfully made it on time. We also accidentally left a set of keys behind while on vacation, and we had them mailed to us by priority mail. We paid priority prices, and it took more than three weeks to get here. We were just a few days away from biting the bullet and paying for replacement keys. (The keys are "do not duplicate".) So it came time to make it out to the post office. It's difficult for me to make the trip. They have parking, but most of it is reserved for mail trucks. I took a "reserved" one anyway--I'm disabled, and they have no handicapped parking. I waited in a fairly short line, but it took ages to get through. The reason why this has two stars instead of one? When I finally made it through the line, I got directed straight to the manager. He offered me quite a comfortable seat and was patient with my slow butt as I tried to get into it. He was quite polite and spoke directly with the mail carrier. The problem improved for some time. It comforts me to see that the reviews are mostly negative, and that my experience was not an individual attack, rather employee incompetence. I've never had to deal with this level of idiocy (and inadequacy) in customer service before. For 25 minutes I watched two women search the post office for my package, only to come back with nothing. They told me that their post office didn't serve my street (funny since my street is a two minute walk from said post office), that my name was spelt incorrectly (my mother sent the package - very unlikely), and that the package didn't exist (then why do I have a redelivery notification?). Oh, that's right, the redelivery notification! Completely illegible, the code on it was wrong, and thus was useless. On top of that, after I told the woman serving me that I "didn't have time" to sit around for 25+ minutes and wait for them to find my package, I was verbally abused! So not only are they all morons, but they are rude! Avoid this location at all costs. Unbelievable. An embarrassment to USPS as a whole. read more

Wow...so where to start. This morning, a mail truck almost ran my 7 month old baby and me over while I was crossing the intersection at Union Square in Allston. I had a walk sign. This truck just blew the red light. It wasn't even close. When I tried to call the post office to notify them, someone was just picking up the phone and immediately disconnecting. (The truck # was 6400452, not that anyone there cares.) So besides the attempted vehicular homicide, which is what prompted me to write this review, the branch can never find packages. I now have all packages shipped to where I work in Brookline. I regularly go for days without receiving mail, as do my neighbors. The absolute worst. read more

This place is horrible. Lazy, inept liars who will not even give out the full names of the managers Janet and Erica "we're on a first name basis here, no last names", making it all the more difficult to complain, should you wish to do so. I genuinely fail to understand how and why these people have jobs. Packages are routinely unavailable for pickup (despite phone assurances that they will be) and I was told a few months ago by a temp that the initial pink pickup slip you get is a scam; the package is never available the following day as they don't actually attempt the first delivery; they just drop off the slip and send the package along the next day. I've occasionally had luck insisting on seeing the manager and demanding the package be searched for more thoroughly (at which point it is usually found), but getting to talk to the manager is very difficult; I'll assume she rarely shows up to work or hangs out at one of the bars down the street. This office should be declared a public health threat and closed, given its ability to raise blood pressure at stratospheric rates. Turn it into community gardens or a hacker space or something that would actually benefit the community. read more

I had a great experience at this post office shipping packages for the holidays. Although I was dreading the lines and stress of trying to ship something close to Christmas the staff was vibrant, warm, and extremely helpful. The manager Janet was active on the floor and helped me select the cheapest way to send the mail and pack up all of my gifts. The two women working the desk (another Janet and Tatiana) were in great spirits and very helpful as well. I got in and out in 15 minutes despite a line. Great staff:) read more

I am a brand new customer of the Allston Post Office after being fed up with the long lines at the Coolidge Corner branch in Brookline. I needed to mail out 300 Red Sox calendars yesterday and waited for 10 minutes in a line that never moved and decided to head over to Allston for quicker service. I found a parking spot right across the street and walked in to find only smiling and friendly faces at the counter. I purchased my 300 stamps and started putting them on the envelopes and Tatianna noticed and said that since she wasn't busy that she'd be happy to help me!! I had a nice chat with her and Jennifer while we worked on my mailing! This is top notch, A+ service. Thanks ladies! read more

A little sympathy for the clerks at Allston PO, folks. I have been going for years and have developed some rapport with some employees. (I work but don't live in Allston, so don't have to deal with delivery issues.) Problem is, the clerks are severely understaffed. If they waited for the line to dissipate before taking lunch, they'd never get to go. And the 2 minutes after closing thing? Why just 2? How about 5? 10? 35? Customers just keep coming and coming. If I'm late I wait til next day. Other people have lives too, children to pick up from after-school, dinner to cook, friends and family, etc. Just like you! And I know ('cuz I talk with them) that they have duties other than selling stamps and mailing your packages. Up until a couple of years ago they always had all 3 windows open. C'mon people, Y'all need to get on the manager's case and have them fully staff this PO! Write your Congressman or whatever. And remember two things: (1) Don't sweat the small s***; and (2) It's all small s***! Practice patience. read more

I told them this and they started yelling at me when I was calm with them. Reported both the supervisor and the carrier to national USPS. read more

this is the worst post office i have ever been to, insanely long lines, always short on staff, very minimal parking (paid meter), and it is terribly organized sometimes they will have a window for package pickups and sometimes they wont, the person in front of me was furious that she waited 30 minutes and they couldn't even find the package after taking her package slip absolute nightmare read more

Oh... how i wish i could give negative stars to this particular branch. Employees lack the hospitable manners needed to uphold the integrity of a federal institution. It is no wonder many customers are taking their business to Fedex or UPS; why would anyone pay for services that are less than abysmal (with disrespectful, negligent, and bewildered employees that ruin your entire postal experience). This has to be the worst post office, I'm convinced. I cringe every time I see my package has been "transferred to local post office for delivery" because I know I can expect to see "out for delivery" for at least a week or two and and play phone tag with them before it is finally delivered. Had a package from UPS and USPS to be delivered on the same day and the UPS one was sitting at my doorstep when I get home but the USPS no where to be found, shocker. Receive an email the next day saying they left a notice (no such notice anywhere) and they couldn't deliver because the mail receptacle was blocked. Going to go ahead and guess the delivery person didn't even get out of the car to make an attempt but you can make your own conclusion. Please avoid this place. Save yourself the headache. read more

I've lived in this area for almost 2 years now and have had consistently good service at this post office, even when its busier in the late afternoons when people are getting done with work. I was nervous coming in during one occasion to pick up a package, as I've ran into grumpy employees at other branches in the past, but the staff patiently helped me and I successfully left with my delivery -shocker right? Also got my passport photos done here, where the employee even showed me the pictures on the camera and printed a couple of proofs so I could choose the one I liked. Definitely did not expect that kind of above & beyond service, especially because it was near closing time, but it was a nice surprise and much appreciated. Many of the employees seem to know regular customers by name and they've always been friendly with me. They work efficiently, and though some employees are a bit chatty with their regulars they get the line moving quickly as needed when there are others waiting. I usually walk here, but did drive a couple of times and was able to park out front on the street, where there's a 2-hour limit but free (no meters, yay!). read more

This is the worst Post Office that I have ever had the displeasure of using. They have lost probably 75% of my incoming and outgoing packages. I would have better luck using a carrier pigeon. On one occasion a package of mine was reported as "attempted to deliver" at 9am. I was expecting the package that day and did not see it on the porch so I went to the Post Office to check on it no later than 10am after seeing the "attempted to deliver" status. The clerk told me that this post office will not leave packages on the porch because of the risk of theft. I know this is not true because several of my other housemates have had packages left on the porch. When I asked if I could pick up my package from the post office, he said that because I had not been there when the mailman tried to deliver the package, it had been returned to sender!!! Keep in mind that this was all within one hour of the attempted delivery, and I had been home all morning!! The doorbell never rang and there was never a knock at the door. I asked for the manager at this point, who told me that because I was not on the porch waiting for the delivery, they were forced to return it to the sender and I would be responsible for the shipping charges to have the package resent to me. I have never heard of such ridiculousness. The mailman made no attempt to see if I was home, and left no note for pickup. Either the employees of this Post Office are stealing packages or they are some of the most incompetent people to walk the face of the earth. From now on I will be traveling the extra distance to use the Kenmore or Brookline Post Office, because every time I enter this post office I leave infuriated. read more

If you are a regular here, like I am, then the staff is awesome and funny. It can be like a comedy show! Unfortunately, under no circumstance would I ever call this place speedy. Don't ever come here if you are in a rush! The lines are huge, and there are always clueless people trying to send packages around the world but (1) don't have their items boxed by the time they get to the counter (2) don't have any customs forms filled out (3) are trying to submit a passport, but don't have any of the forms filled out (4) don't realize the packaging materials aren't free and are ripping through all the boxes and envelopes... basically, every atrocious customer action you can think of happens while you are waiting your minimum time of 20 minutes in line. I studied anthropology, and as a local, I can find this behavior fascinating if in the right frame of mind, but most of all just want to slap everyone. This post office has the distinction of being the only one making the *customers* want to go postal! read more

I feel a little silly writing a Yelp review about the post office, but when I saw the low ratings of the Allston post office I want to add my two cents. I've had a p.o. box here for the past 3 years, and go to this location several times a week. The reason why I love this post office is the fabulous staff, who are always welcoming and friendly and sincerely does go out of their way to help you the best way they can. The long queues usually stem from clueless customers coming in to mail complicated packages w/o the proper forms filled out, and people with pink missed delivery slips making a fuss. Don't act so entitled! You live in Allston, which is a dense, student-dominated neighborhood full of apartments - if you are not home during the day, it's only fair that you take the time to pick up your package at the post office. If you don't do it in a timely fashion, of course it will get sent back - the post office doesn't have unlimited storage space for your amazon prime boxes. read more

Even when lines are long (not that often if you figure out your timing) you will find yourself entertained. I have worked behind counters dealing with customers for hours on end, and I am amazed at the goodwill and good cheer these folks sustain through what looks to be a grueling day in potential. If I could give this place -2093854023984 stars, I would. I went on vacation for 3 (3!) days. Instead of just leaving the mail in my mailbox, they just never delivered it. I'm still missing (weeks later) important documents. They also wouldn't leave packages unless we put our name on the mailbox which you can see from the street. I personally feel unsafe leaving my name out in public like that with all the craziness going on in the world... but apparently they refuse to deliver if there's no name. Ha! I just read the review in which the Post Office worker told the customer to take only 1 penny. I go to this Post Office all the time and a cashier once told me the exact same thing. I tried to take 2 or 3 pennies, damn me. He wouldn't allow it. He said, "No, no, the cup says take 'a penny'; that means one penny." He actually said that shit to me. Well it also says "leave a penny" too, sucker. Seems he's overlooked that. When he tried to give me my change I told him to keep it. I said no, no, let's leave it here in the cup.
