We had a mailbox lock issue at our commercial building in Ankeny and I called the Ankeny post office and spoke with a woman who said she would contact our mail carrier to hand deliver our mail that day until we could get a locksmith out. Our mail carrier Erin opened our mailbox and brought our mail right to our door. Our locksmith had asked if we could have someone "pop" out the lock to make it easier to replace and Erin was SO helpful and removed the lock herself (after I and USPS had confirmed we were allowed to have it removed and replaced). We were able to replace the lock ourselves and saved our company money on the locksmith! Thank you thank you-really above and beyond! I'm sorry, I cannot remember who I spoke with on the phone but she was the catalyst for getting this done so thank you as well! read more

They never drop off packages and even when I'm home they always put the notice in the community mailbox that nobody was here to pickup the packages. They try to force me to go to the post office for everything! read more

I always get in and out of here efficiently. The staff that works here is always 100 percent helpful and pleasant. It's funny, but so often all you see on Yelp is people b!tching about their one-off experience. Life happens but some simply don't cope well. They'd rather be snarky and miserable. I think the folks that work here deserve a shout out for handling the volume of people and mail that they do. read more

**Update-I was suddenly transferred from the original representative I spoke with to postmaster Brian without an introduction or even knowledge of being transferred and he stated it would be addressed and they had new people and other training issues. At first his attitude was pretty hostile stating they were delivering until midnight no matter the weather. I just wanted it brought to their attention. I feel as though this won't be resolved until we move to a different district. Even basic Customer service is severely lacking here. Our mail is never on time and always at different times. (Usually late at night) Part of the time it's crammed into the mailbox and wrinkled. My husband's military paperwork that says all over DO NOT FOLD is always folded and wrinkled. We have had irreplaceable military certificates and awards ruined. The most recent is they left my Amazon order on the porch, which is not an issue. The issue is, is they left it in the downpour and put it outside the awning we have over our porch. The box and its contents were soggy and they contained a number of pill bugs (rolly polly's) (they love wet cardboard) that are now all over my living room. This is the WORST postal service I have EVER received. read more

This post office consistently gives us the wrong mail. We indicate that the previous owners no longer live at this address. I was just notified by my college that my diploma was returned from the post office indicating return to sender. It is really unfortunate. read more

In 2015 had a new HVAC system installed in my home and ordered all the parts, units, ducts, etc. via USPS. Once the system was installed, I had a box about 2 ft high x 3 ft long x 2 ft deep with a number of metal tubes\ parts \ fittings to return as they were not needed. As I have in the past, I brought the box in with the top open to show the postal person what the items were and inquire as to the best means to ship (cost-wise). With this location (Ankeny, IA) I was told that I had to purchase tape to seal the top of the box. I then pointed to box tape roller (with tape loaded) sitting next to the clerk on a stool and asked, what is that for? I was then told, not for me. I was so flabbergasted by their rude attitude, I just left and drove two blocks to the UPS store on Delaware Ave and shipped my package without the attitude. HIGHLY recommend you avoid aggravation and do the same. read more

September 2018 - My wife went to this post office several weeks ago to take several passport photos to renew her Canadian passport. Part of their requirements is that the person taking the photos must write down their name as well as the address of the location the photos were taken. My wife asked the lady taking the photos to do just that. The lady flipped the two photos over and jotted something down on the back, and my wife didn't give it another thought. Now, 2 weeks later, she's getting a call from the Canadian government saying there is no name on the back of the photos, and the address provided is incomplete. Somehow the lady WHO WORKS AT A POST OFFICE forgot to include the city, state, and zip code of the office address here in Ankeny. And she didn't write her name down. My wife went back to the post office today and explained what happened. Yep, another $58 later she has new photos, and she double-checked to make sure the name and complete address was written on the back. Unbelievable... Lived in Ankeny for about 10 years now and have used this post office the entire time... unfortunately this is pretty much par for the course in dealing with this location. read more

This has to be the worst post office i have ever been to. I arrived at 4 on a weekday with my box that needed a few strips of tape. Did the post office lady give me some free tape? Nope, she tried to black mail me into buying a super thin roll of tape for $4. I go home to tape my box and arrive back to witness them denying service to a mother with three kids for some technicality. they just don't like helping people here. Sad, sad place. read more

When I'm out of town, I have my mail held. Initially, I chose to have my mail delivered when the hold ended. That worked a few times, then my mail was lost for two weeks following a trip. Now, I select the option to pick up my accumulated mail at the post office upon my return. Today, I tried to pick up my accumulated mail and it was on the truck for delivery. This is the second time this has happened to me and it is very frustrating. One of the Delivery Options when completing a Hold Mail request is "I will pick up accumulated mail." Called at 930, 945,10 1015..etc Currently 11 am and no one has answered my calls. No voicemail. Notta. I know Ankeny post office has its issues, but this is just ridiculous. read more

This is the worst post office in the metro! Put a vacation hold on mail, and they put two "attempt to deliver" notices in my door while I was gone. I expect when I have a HOLD on my mail, that they will HOLD my mail, and not litter my door to make it look like I am not home. Got a very disinterested clerk when I called, and a weak excuse. read more

Since moving into an brand new apartment complex in Ankeny, IA in May (The Sterling) I have had four issues with packages being delivered by the Ankeny post office (all ordered from Amazon by the way). Two of them concerned packages that were delivered but actually left outside of the buildings office, in a vestibule, that is accessible by anyone. No note or notice was given that they were left there. I just happened to walk by and saw them. I was lucky no one took them. Another of these involved an 'attempted' delivery on a Sunday at 2:58PM that said there was no accessibility to the office but the office is open 12-4PM on Sundays. The most recent, this past Wednesday, June 27th, 2018, I received a notice on my computer that a package had been delivered. I checked my box, nothing, not even a key in case they had to put the package in one of the large parcel boxes. I went to the PO and the lady verified that it had been delivered but could not tell me where the carrier left it (it was not in my box nor was there a key!). She took my name, phone number and said that the person in charge would check into it and call me. So far there has been no word. The other thing is that three out of the four times I was told that the regular carrier did not drive his route those days but a 'relief' driver did. There is definitely a training problem here! Amazon Prime members be forewarned ... they have a 'deal' with USPS to deliver Prime packages as they (Amazon) don 't charge for shipping. I am no longer ordering from Amazon. read more

This post office charged me 3.00 for an envelope that was not uniform in thickness (postage due) My daughter had mailed 50 of these from the Grimes post office and they told her all she needed was an 85 cent stamp. I went up there to find out why I had been charged and they told me it was considered a package. Needless to say we freaked out because we thought all 50 would get a 3.00 postage due which would be quite embarrassing. The Ankeny supervisor Dan was arguing with the Grimes post office over this. As it turned out I WAS THE ONLY ONE CHARGED POSTAGE DUE!!!!! All 50 were delivered to many different post offices across the country and NONE of them were charged. I called back up there to talk to SUPERVISOR DAN just to let him know and the only thing he had to say to me was, "WELL I AM GLAD WE ARE THE ONLY POST OFFICE THAT GOT IT RIGHT." This is TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OBVIOUSLY THEY WERE THE ONLY ONE THAT GOT IT WRONG SINCE I WAS THE ONLY ONE OUT OF 50 THAT GOT CHARGED!!!!!! IT IS THE UNITED STATES POST OFFICE SUPERVISOR DAN---GET IT RIGHT YOU MORON!!!! I am not concerned about the 3.00 it is the whole point and if they are charging people wrong it needs to stop. read more
