For the most part, I get my packages and mail on time with few problems... but when things go wrong, yikes, they go really wrong. I was expecting two packages but neither came. One I received a pink slip for saying no one had been home and it was at the post office. The other I received nothing for, but once it's expected arrival date had passed, I tracked it online to see it was also being held at the post office after attempted delivery. I work 9-5 so I stopped by several days later on a Saturday with the pink slip and tracking info. I was told the packages weren't there and that I should report them as stolen. I've lived here 7 months and never had a problem so I was pretty surprised. I called a family member who works for the post office in a different state who offered to track them for me again just in case. Interestingly, my family member called this post office and was told at least one of my packages was definitely there. I returned and explained this but they continued to insist it wasn't there. It wasn't until I forcefully stated that my family member had spoken to someone who had claimed to be literally holding the package in his hands that the woman suddenly ran into the back and produced the package... with the pink delivery slip that's supposed to be left in my mailbox taped to the front. The woman I spoke to was very polite and patient with me the whole time and I really want to give her the benefit of the doubt here, but this was pretty weird. And my other package has still yet to be found. I'm sure they're very busy and things can get disorganized sometimes, but overall it seems like quite a lot went wrong here and it makes me a little nervous about doing online orders in the future. read more

After trying to find my lost package at 3different Astoria locations, and a week long search, i finally got to speak to Sophia, the manager of Post Office at 31st street. She was extremely, extremely rude and impatient. After she gave me yet another number to call, i said i was tired of this ridiculous search and that it's their responsibility to find the lost package. Hey, it's been a week and the only thing they did is send me from one post office to another. To that, Sophia yelled at me saying she didn't have time for me and my problems and she simply left the window. Definitely use this post office if you want to make package pickup requests that will never go fulfilled, even though you get a confirmation email. And definitely talk to your carrier who claims he has no memory of getting any request, even though you had to make two requests and 3 or 4 calls to the Marietta, GA USPS number to tell them about it. read more

The service at this post office hasn't improved since I moved to Astoria in 2005. The main problem, not dissimilar to most USPS complaints, is that lines are way too long and that the delivery schedule is inconsistent. Throw in less than friendly carriers and it is what it is: a mess. read more

The lines at this post office are always at least 15 minutes long and there is never enough staff (or enough staff who knows what they're doing). In the winter, it is so overheated that I have to remove my coat and hat and I STILL feel like I might pass out at any second. I will do my best to go to any other location. The mail carriers here are also incredibly bad at their jobs. I have left mail in my mailbox, flag up, for DAYS and they refuse to pick it up. If I could give this place zero stars I woulf. I got here when they open, 9am, to pick up a package that they tried to deliver a week ago. Doors opened at 9:01 and there were no clerks when we all finally got inside. There were about 10 of us waiting for the doors to open. I'm just getting to a clerk 20 mins later. All said and done this took 30 mins when it should take maybe 10. The postal works are rude and roll their eyes if they think you're asking too much. read more

I have never had this many problems with a local USPS, specifically with delivering packages. They do not follow instructions on redelivery requests, which often delays my packages by 2 days or more. They are not able to justify *why* they do not follow redelivery request instructions. And, in the 3 months I've lived in this neighborhood, no one has EVER answered their phone. It always rings 4-5 times and goes to a fax or data tone. So, the only way I'm able to resolve an issue is by going there in person, which I'm rarely able to do due to work, or by contacting USPS customer service. Their performance is unacceptable and unprofessional. I do not understand. read more

This has to be one of the worst Post Office locations ever. I hate dealing with them but i have no choice because Amazon made a deal with them. My delivery never comes on time, never. My packages have been lost, delivered to the wrong addresses, and so far their poor service has cost me so much money. Shipping with them at this location is also hit or miss, and one package out of 2 never even arrived to their sorting facility. What makes me very angry is that they dont even bother to deliver your package, all they do is leave that damn pink slip. Even since we have a new mailman, our street doesn't get mail every day. Not only that, but he will deliver the wrong mail to the wrong address. This has happened too many times. I called the Woolsey station and explained, no one seems to care. The problem continues. I ordered stamps online from the USPS website to ignore the long slow moving lines at this station. What can I say? It's simply depressing and unwelcoming. It's poorly organized, people have little idea which line or window to go to...customer service is poor as well. For such a busy Post Office, why can't they have three people at the windows? If you can't hire a third one, maybe hiring someone part-time during peak-hours might be an option. Waited in line for 10 minutes to drop off 3 web returns because the drop-off window (for prepaid packages) would not open. Tried to get the attention of two different employees for help and was ignored. PO on 21st St. is nicer and better staffed. read more

Warning! Sender beware! Do not use this branch!!!! They did not scan the tracking on the package I sent, so I have no idea whether my package is missing, despite the fact that I handed it directly to the teller. They tend to have far too few teller windows open at a time and because of this they try to rudely kick you out if you ask any questions. No bold guy today, just this beauty in the picture refusing to take my envelope. She simply refused to help me and walked away from the window! All this while only two of their 8 or so registers were staffed and people kept coming through the door. The second employee thought it was a really good time to pretend that she is sorting mail for a couple of minutes before retiring to the inner palace. Leaving the beauty who refused to seat at a register in the meantime to serve the customers. I was asking to see the manager for 20 minutes. I was told she left for the day at 2pm. No one seemed to be doing her job. This disgusting situation is a good reason to be against unionism, and this is coming from a supporter. My constitutional rights were violated more than twice today at this location, one by refusing to help me with sending my mail, and second by confiscating my mail for a few minutes until they were trying to figure out what to do. That is, trying to figure out how to deal with an employee who did not want to do the job and the biggest problem of them all, of how to actually do their job in general. We had an expansive purchase from Amazon last week. The tracking number proved that it was delivered at the front door, at our address on Ditmars Blvd. Within 15-20 min upon receiving the notice I was downstairs but no the parcel found (which was a big box) but a few small parcels belonged to our neighbors were there. We suspect delivery men involved. At the US post office, while waiting in a line, I met three ladies with the same issue - stollen parcels! One of them claimed that she didn't get three parcels in one month! A post officer gave me the following phone number of the delivery department: 718-349-4657. They never picked up the calls! This is the WORST post office I have ever dealt with in my life. I have lived in the area five years and the service continues to get worse. ( if that is possible) I have had so many issues lately with packages. They NEVER ring the door bell. They do not leave a note for "missed a package " there has been several times that I have been told my package will be sent back? When I didn't even know it was there. They can never seem to find my packages in the post office itself, only for the fact I asked the person to go back and look 3 times and on the 3rd time they came out with the package . Other times I have gone on the date that was left on the note to be told the packages were not dropped back yet and so on and when I spoke up I was told " go speak to the manager it's not my problem"this post office is an absolute disgrace . They clearly don't give a shit . Most recently my Mail Carrier went on vacation, so the Post Office decided to not only stop delivering my mail, but to send all of my mail back to the senders. So coincidentally, I had recently lost my wallet and was awaiting a replacement for my credit cards, driver's license, and Insurance Cards. All of which were refused and sent back by the good ol' Woolsey Station. When I went to the post office to find out what was going on, they shoved a (surprisingly taciturn) "supervisor" at me who shoved a notepad and pen in front of me, annoyed, and looked at me as though I could read his thoughts. When I asked what he was looking for he rolled his eyes and said write your name and address and we'll look into. After doing so, he asked how he would call me without a phone number. I gave him my phone number as well. I never heard from him or the Post Office again. However I did receive mail yesterday. So I am hoping that they figured out where I live by the huge numbers on my front door and the street sign on the corner. He must've missed my name on the doorbell, as well. I phoned the Post Office @718-274-7396 (this number is not well documented, for obvious reasons) and spoke to "temporary" supervisor Dan who said there was very little he can do, especially since he's only here for the week. But maybe I could follow up with supervisor John next week if I continue to not get any mail. Swell. Do I have to start paying to have everything delivered UPS and FedEx ...? read more

Whatever your reason for having to come to this post office, it's always your fault. It's your fault that you want to buy a pretty stamp that's not available in this location. It's your fault that your package wasn't delivered for an unknown reason. It's your fault that you think the website's function to reschedule the delivery will actually inform this post office to re-deliver your package, how naive of you. It's your fault that you expect the 'search package' request on the USPS website actually means something. It's your fault that you didn't come to the post office to pick up the package yourself even tho you paid the postal fee. It's your fault that you are not willing to take a morning off from work just to come to the post office and wait in the line for half an hour to ask the clerk to look for a package that has been sitting in the back room for days. I went here to use the automated machine in the lobby recently. It was 15 minutes until closing time. I weighed my package, printed postage, and was filling out my label when a worker came out and announced that he was closing up. An elderly lady was in the room with us and asked the employee if the last pickup of the day had happened. He yelled that the f*$#ing mail was gone and told her to get out. Then he yelled back asking if I was done yet. He then started yelling at me to leave, even though it was 10 minutes until they were schedule to close. I asked for his name and the name of his supervisor, but he obviously wasn't interested in giving me this info. I hope this guy gets caught and fired. Sooo uncool. read more

Too much power in the hands of the mediocre. If the carrier does not want to deliver the package, the package will not be delivered. After four attempts, had the DMV send my NY driver's license to my relatives out of state (in Oregon), then use UPS to have it delivered at my job site. Truly dread when Amazon switches to USPS from UPS mid-route, b/c they also screw up. In Europe they don't insure parcels sent via USPS, lest it'll be lost. On occasion I must leave town and therefore request the Woolsey Station to hold my mail.for a week or two..I made my request using the post card USPS provides. I have also sent the request by electronic means provided by the USPS. Either way, they do not seem to pay attention to these requests. During my absence, carriers still deliver mail: leaving mail , at times, on the stoop or behind a screen door regardless of weather. If it wasn't for kind neighbors my mail would be lost, blown away, wet etc. Part of the problem is they lack communication in this post office. Whoever gets the request does not seem to pass it on to carriers. Another problem is that we never have a regular carrier. Substitute carriers are the norm.and apparently are not aware mail is being held because of a communication problem. What makes is worse is that the postmaster seems to care very little. Assign a regular carrier. Have mail delivered before 4-5 PM. read more

It's not even a fax machine - I tried to fax a response. They also messed up another delivery, and as soon as the vendor called them, the package suddenly appeared after 3 weeks of being "lost". The people who work here are horrible. They are the most unfriendly and least helpful postal workers I have ever experienced (and that is saying something). First off, my mail is often put in the wrong mailbox (and my neighbors' mail is put in my mailbox). But worse, I went on a Saturday (hours before they closed) to drop off my Save The Dates and asked if they could hand cancel them so that they didn't go through the machine. The envelopes were already stamped and the very curt woman behind the glass said the only way to hand cancel them was to apply an entirely different stamp (not at all wedding related) and charge me 22c for each envelope. I know for a fact there is a hand stamper that can be used but she was either ignorant or just too lazy to bother being helpful. It will be a miracle if those envelopes make it out of the post office. With such terrible service its no wonder the USPS is losing money hand over fist. I hope that woman does some real soul searching; life is too short to be so negative. read more

I don't actually receive mail from this post office, but I go here instead of my horrible local office whenever I need to send a package. The line moves quickly and things get done. My friend who lives in the area and receives her daily mail from them says she has no complaints. They are not always friendly, but who cares as long as the job gets done. read more

If you speak with Brandy, who is the supervisor, you will never solve your problem. Moreover she will blame you and make excuses not to take a responsibility. I am giving this post office one star because there is not a category for 'zero' stars. Today, I asked for penny stamps and was told they did not have any. When I asked are they on backorder? Does she know when they come in? Her comment was to come back next week and check. I said I'd rather not stand on a very long line again just to find out that the stamps are still out of stock. Does she know when the order is expected. Her comment to me was that she cannot stop what she is doing just to print me what I need. The workers in this post office need customer training. They are rude and half of the time are unable to answer simple questions.
