Get in, take a number, have a seat, wait for the number to be called, take care of business and get out - usually 20 minutes or less, unless it's a school vacation day or around the holidays - then it gets time consuming. My secret has always been to get to this location as the place is just opening up, and never try to do my business during or after lunch. The folks who work here are no-nonsense, not chatty, not unfriendly, just all business and wanting to get things done just as much as the next person. They exhibit a great deal of patience and take a lot of abuse from mouthy, know-it-all, rude people. The building is aged and the waiting area isn't necessarily comfortable - hard chairs and no frills. There is a TV screen but I don't pay much attention to it except to see when the next number is called. The atmosphere is not supposed to be something to make one want to stay here anyway.

The PreCheck line here has always been fast and smooth. No issues. It's a single line that feeds to multiple TSA agents. If you don't have PreCheck, it's worth it because of the cumulative time savings and convenience. Not only are the lines shorter, but they go quicker. When it's time to walk through the scanner, no need to remove jackets, shoes, laptops, liquids bag, etc. At the time of writing this review, TSA PreCheck costs $85 for five years. Global Entry is $100 for five years. If you plan on doing international traveling, get Global Entry. It's a no-brainer. Some travel-related credit cards offer Global Entry and/or PreCheck as an included benefit, so you may want to consider that. RDU, being a relatively smaller-to-medium-sized American airport, has a PreCheck line that is proportionate, in my experience. Compared to a big city airport like Atlanta (ATL), which is where I've gone through security lines the most, RDU's security line is short, as expected. Generally, PreCheck at ATL goes fast and I think PreCheck at RDU goes even faster. It's the benefit of a smaller airport (however, that benefit is greatly offset by having to make more connections). Anyway, I think the Transportation Security Administration staff does a good job at RDU. Keep up the good work, TSA.

The marker reads, "St. Mary's Chapel. stablished as Anglican chapel ca. 1759. Present building consecrated in 1859, stands 500 feet north" Online, there is more information. "Orange County and the Anglican St. Matthew's Parish were created in 1752, taken from western segments of Granville, Johnston, and Bladen Counties and their respective parishes. The first church to serve the citizens of Orange was St. Matthew's, on the corner of Churton and Tryon Streets in Hillsborough. It was established about 1757. St. Mary's Chapel was built about seven miles northeast of Hillsborough on land donated by Thomas Holden in 1759. The intended purpose was to serve residents of northern Orange County, while New Hope Chapel, built around the same time, was to serve those in the southern part of the county. New Hope Chapel was constructed on the hill that would later become the nucleus of Chapel Hill. The Reverend George Micklejohn is thought to have preached at all three of the Orange County Churches of England from his arrival in Hillsborough in 1767 until the outbreak of the American Revolution. "Following the Revolution, the Episcopal Church was not fully organized in North Carolina until 1817. St. Mary's Chapel was admitted into the Episcopal union at the 1819 convention, with services having resumed there the previous year. In 1858 the congregation of St. Mary's purchased 9 and 9/16ths acres of land adjoining the church's original one acre tract. A new brick chapel was constructed and consecrated in 1859. Throughout the years, St. Mary's appears to have been the responsibility of the minister at St. Matthew's. Services were also conducted by lay readers and missionary priests. While the small chapel met the needs of the community, it was not in a financial position to afford a full-time minister. In the 1930s regular services at St. Mary's were discontinued and most members transferred to St. Matthew's." This is marker number G-90 and it was erected in 1973 by the Office of Archives and History. The church is nearby and you can walk over to check it out.
