Why do you people always deliver my paychecks to various neighbors? Why? Always! Why? Why? Why? As for the actual location, I've never been in this place less than 20 minutes. There's always somebody doing some weird shipping thing and somebody pissed off in line and somebody trying to preach the bright side of the situation. It is the greatest free entertainment going. Inefficient and somewhat annoying describe this PO the best. A few months ago they lost a package. After nearly three weeks they had the package at another post office. They almost returned it to the sender! Earlier this week I had three slips to pick up packages. I rang the bell and the woman saw it was me and told me to go into line. The lack of staff is another problem. It's their Union that prevents them from staffing more especially during lunch hour. I have to go here because of my packages. I hate all postoffices. I have a christmas gift for my aunt sitting in my dresser...it's addressed and ready to go. From Christmas 2009. I just don't want to deal with mailing it. Why? because of places like this post office. The worst. I rather drive up to Humboldt to mail it from there. And that is like a 10 hour drive back and forth...which would probably save me time than waiting in line at this post office. Saying this place is a dump is being kind. The employees are not helpful and seem to think its not important to know how to do their job. I won't say that they're outright rude but I can't say that they understand the concept of customer service. This post office misplaced a very important certified letter. Apparently there's no process for keeping track of things and no one is willing to take responsibility for the issue. It's sort of hilarious but at the same time frustratingly unexpected. I've already visited the office twice, following their instructions and now have to return a third time and I'm sure I'll be starting from scratch again with another postal employee who has no idea what they're doing. This demonstrates a shocking lack of respect for customers time. If I treated my customers like this I would certainly not expect them to pay for services or ever come back. I'm going to make this short and sweet. This place is the worse! Very bad service. I guess they have downsized and have different people working there. 2 particular Spanish ladies in their 40's are older actually got into with a customer trying to get a package and leave. No sign, but was told there is no one back there to get her package. After this women waits in line someone appears. I saw several people in the back so I guess they were all on break. They basically embarrassed the women and told her off. The women stated she had a po box there for like 7 years, but had to wait behind 10 people because no one could get her package. No post office is like this one. Some folks are mad that Staples is now doing United States Postal Service duties. Yes, it is now at the staples on Shattuck. I'm actually surprised this location is not closed. Every time I come to this location its a problem and based on most of the reviews, its a place you might want to skip. Rude employees, nasty attitude, and one women yelled out she had been there since 5am. Ok......you get like $30 or more an hour for that! To top it off I saw one women begging to get it to just check her box who said she had that po box for 10 years. Its 5:01 and you won't let a customer in to get her mail and you have a line anyway. Yes, employees have to go home to, but the women just wanted her dam mail!!!~~ I don't mail ANYTHING there. I mean I refuse to support them or even buy a dam stamp. This review is specifically for postal worker Theresa (Teresa?) Gonzales. Long story a bit shorter, we were supposed to receive our passports - had paid extra for them to be expedited and told they'd arrive well before our trip. Cut to 2 days before we need to leave and no passports!! After tracking things down (shipped here, sorted there, then scheduled to arrive EITHER in Berkeley or Oakland), we ended up getting connected to Theresa who personally offered to keep an eye out for our envelopes and said she'd call us as soon as they arrived (even gave us her cell # in case we had any questions!). While I did take off one star for the time I've gone in and found the location to be understaffed and slower-than-expected, Theresa gets all the rest of the stars. I've not seen customer service like that in a loooong time (much less from the postal service). Hope she gets formally commended for this level of customer support. Thanks again Theresa!! read more

This is by far the best post office I've used in the bay area. I have a PO box here and go to the post office about twice a week. I've never seen a line over 3-4 people and have never waited more than 10 minutes. I think people just like complaining about the post office- sure there is only one person typically, but they are always friendly and professional. Learn a little patience, people! Beware when requesting your mail to be held while you're away from home. I filled out the hold form on line and received confirmation by email - with the information that we would pick up the mail at the post office when we returned. Long story, short: they kept delivering our mail for the two weeks we were away. Thankfully, we have neighbors who noticed and took in the mail and packages until we returned. It could have been a lot worse. We live on a busy street and our mailbox is not locked. Lesson learned: have someone check your mailbox while you're away; don't trust the post office to follow the procedure they agreed to. read more

If I could give them less than one star and call the police I would. I received a notice on my door: pick up your package on 11/6 after 12 pm. I showed up after noon (almost 1). Lo and behold my package was "not there." I dealt with some supervisor Alejandra. She was AWFUL. After antagonizing, instigating, and gaslighting next - she became condescending and rude. To clarify, this is a review for the post office on San Pablo, near University. I was genuinely surprised by their efforts to help me resolve my problem. My apartment had a jam in our mailbox so the mail woman could not deliver our mail to my apartment anymore. I went to the post office to pick up the mail that could not be delivered. Although they did not have my mail, a woman working there called the headquarters and located where my mail was and promised to call me back. She called me back even though it was already past closing hours. In addition, when I went back to the post office the next day to pick up my mail, they remembered me by a name to name basis. This staff is efficient and fast at their job. They quickly resolved my issue. Thanks! read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. The amount of fuckery that one must endure here is outrageous. There's is not a single positive thing about this location unless you're renting a P.O. Box. But is that even a positive experience here? The diva behind the counter is rude and obnoxious! You'll know when you see her. She's there every morning. From the looks of it, no employee cares to restock the supply of boxes and mailing envelopes. Does anyone ever mop or sweep the floor here? I've had to come down here twice to pick up packages that supposedly "required" signatures. First time, I had to wait over twenty minutes and then was told "we can't find your package, you'll have to wait until your regular carrier comes back in two days". I asked for a supervisor and was told "oh, we found your package, but the guy thought you left". Don't bother filing complaints about the letter carriers that refuse to deliver mail at an appropriate time or even at all! The responses received sound robotic and I highly doubt anyone cares anymore. I await the day FedEx and UPS take over the handling of small parcels at an affordable rate shipped from eBay & Amazon and put the USPS out of service for good! read more

Yes I'm reviewing the post office. Why? Because it's a terrifying place to be. Go to check for a package that was supposed to have been delivered but I never received. Am in line for a pretty long time. Not the employees' fault of course. I'm standing there... bored... in the stinky little post office... for about a good 20-25 minutes before I'm in the front of the line. The employee is super nice and helpful! As she's running around trying to track down my package, this unshaven, dirty homeless looking man comes and stands RIGHT NEXT TO ME. He is smelling RANK and looking INSANE in his full on forrest green 3 piece suit. I'm annoyed but don't feel like gettin stabbed by a crazy at the post office so I step aside. Thank god he decided to go bother another employee. He starts yelling and ranting about how the key to his P.O. box isn't working. That he's paid for it for 7 months and that there's a post office conspiracy to keep his mail from him. No... not even joking. The employees try to help and talk to him to calm him down but at this point he's screaming that he's going to call the FBI, the cops, the methodist church on San Pablo, etc. Yes... he threw in a church. This goes on for a good 10 minutes. One of the employees finally gets his box open and tries to hand him his mail. At this point he says he doesn't want it and wants the phone so he can "call his buddies at the FBI" and tell them what's going on. PSYCHoOOoOoOoOO. I left before he finished his whole rant. I'm assuming he was there for a looooong time. I think I'll stick with the cleaner, and much safer, Emeryville post office from now on. read more

This post office has really gotten a bad reputation (true, some of it has certainly be earned), but if you know some of the "tricks", it can be navigated easily. First, it's small. Don't go in expecting it to be like the Berkeley Main post office - there is usually only one clerk at the front desk when it's not busy and when it is busy, you're lucky if there are two clerks working. Second, this place is very understaffed (in all departments, not just the front desk, but in the back-office as well). With those two little bits of information, here are some helpful tidbits I can give you about this place: The clerk (s) are very overworked, so if you walk up with ANY sort of attitude (whether they deserve it or not), they will make things difficult for you. I have seen (sadly, many more times than I would like), someone walk up to them after waiting in like 10 minutes and make a snarky remark. The clerk then goes into "error check mode" and if they find anything wrong with your documents, you are basically told to do it again and get back in line. No other assistance, no recourse. If you don't like it, they ask you to leave (and trust me, they have the police on a "insta-alert" button if you decide that they are bluffing or you want to make a scene). They are not fast, mostly because they are expected to do everything in the front-office. They will get it done, but in their own damn time. Based on that, I kinda treat this place like Fry's Electronics - when I go in and I know I'm going to need to talk to someone, I know exactly what I need to ask ahead of time and stick to the task at hand - no "chit-chat" or random questions. Now that I've basically made it seem like this place is some sort of Post Office From Hell, I should give you the good points. First, it's really not that long of a wait to get what you need, at most, 5-10 people will be in line and while the clerks are slow, they are very knowledgeable and precise. If you need to mail a ceramic tomato to Abu Dhabi using 14th class goat - they know how to do that. Also, if you are nice and friendly to them, they are (usually) nice and friendly towards you. This really is a place where a well-timed "please" or "thank you" will go a long way. One of the main reasons that I would recommend this place (compared to Berkeley Main, for example) is they always have a good stock of stamps and supplies. Secondly, and I have no idea why this is true, but having sent 100+ items from them, they seem to process items faster and as such, items mailed here get to their final destination 1-2 days ahead of mail that I've mailed from other locations. I don't know why this is, nor do I care - it just means my stuff gets there faster, so I'll deal with crazy clerks for speediness! Oh, one other helpful tidbit, there is almost no parking on San Pablo, so I'd recommend parking on one of the side streets and walking the 1/2 block. Much less stressful. read more

I really don't care to write bad reviews, but seriously.... I have never had an experience like I've recently had with the Berkeley San Pablo Ave. Post Office. 1. Got the orange slip from them on Wednesday the 17th. I filled it out, giving them permission to leave it at my building the next day. I left instructions of where I wanted them to leave it- as they tell you to do on the slip. 2. They didn't take the slip, or leave the package that next day-Thursday, so I promptly drove to the post office and they couldn't find my package. Said to come back tomorrow. Awesome. 3. I still had the slip, so I left it again in a more visible location on the mailboxes for him on Friday- NOTHING. I went back to the post office and they still couldn't find my package. Susan- the manager I'm guessing- gave me a phone number and told me to call her Saturday morning to find out where it is. 4. I wake up Saturday and call her. No package. She has me call the main manager, Sean Mason, down at the DC in Albany. He's too busy to give a shit about my story, gets my info and tells me he'll call me back Monday. I left slip out AGAIN for postman and he left me a NEW slip saying no one was home when he tried to buzz our unit- when I specifically left directions on the note taped tot he mailbox saying the buzzer DOESN'T WORK- and directions on how to get in and leave it by my door. SUPER easy. He leaves me a new slip. 5. Sean Mason, the DC Manager, didn't call back Monday. 6. I left the slip out AGAIN for mailman on Monday. No mail seen Monday afternoon at 5pm. I wake up Tuesday morning and leave for work- the mailbox is jammed full of mail and my package is sitting on top of the public OUTDOOR mailboxes. Just when did the mailman come to deliver the mail? After 5pm??? Because I'm sure it's not at 6:30am.... So all in all- holy crap. Talk about completely disregarding simple instructions from postal customers, and zero communication and/or proper drop off of packages at the post office to pick up. I am THANKFUL this wasn't a package I needed in a timely manner. I am almost 100% sure I never want anyone to send me anything in the mail again. I'll just have them send it to work instead. Good grief! To add insult to injury- I just went to let my dog outside and oh look! More mail just sitting on top of the mailboxes where anyone can walk by and take it. Thanks a lot, Mailman. This post office left a slip for my parcel. I knew I wasn't going to be home to sign for this box so I wanted them to leave it on my doorstep. On the slip it offers you a way of submitting your preference to have the package left on your doorstep--it recommends doing it online as opposed to leaving the slip for the post-man because it would be faster. So of course, even though I indicated I wanted it delivered the next day there's no package, no new slip. I left the slip out on the mailbox this time with instructions to leave the package on the doorstep, just to cover all my bases and still no package. So now I'm on day four of having no package, no new slips, no attempted deliveries, nothing! So I try calling this post office. Here's my biggest complaint: the phone number listed for this post office doesn't even work!!! It just rings and rings and then goes to a dial tone. No "Please hold, your call is important to us," or an automated system or anything! How can these institutions run at all? The level of ineptitude of having NO PHONE NUMBER astonishes me. read more

The dog of a neighbor two doors down bit our postal carrier on New Years Eve. This branch decided to punish the houses on either side and across the street of the dog owners by suspending our mail delivery (?!) we are all baffled by the logic of this and consulted Susan, the supervisor of the branch. They evidently think it is our responsibility to maintain our neighbor's dog! Mail service has still not been resumed even though the dog in question has been restrained since the occurrence. We are unsure what recourse is available to us - this really stinks! read more

I successfully shipped 4 textbooks using two different methods, bought bubble pack, and received two postage refunds at this location today. I accomplished all this in under 15 minutes, including wait time (none). Perhaps you think that's no great feat. Perhaps you haven't been to a Post Office in the past five years. Everyone who works here is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. They greet their regulars like it was IHOP. It's a small, comfortable place. If you go between 11-3, it even has a parking lot! The staff is extremely unfriendly, quick to snap and worst of all they talk down to their customers. They misplaced my package, and do not even try to hunt it down while I am there. I have lived by this post office my whole life, and while we've had issues with receiving our mail before this post office was not a bad place to take care of what I needed to. The workers were never completely happy to be there but I had never had a bad experience with them until today. I was expecting a few international packages and received the missed pick up slip letting me know that one of the packages was trying to be delivered but it needed a signature, I had the option to pick it up from the post office or have it redelivered. Now mind you, I have one full-time job M-F 8-5 job and two part time ones, on top of being a college student, considering the post office is only open M-F 9-5 and Saturday 9-3, you bet I'm going to ask for it to be redelivered. So the day of re-delivery I made sure that someone was home all day, door was open, impossible to miss the postman. End of the day comes and no package ever shows up, neither does any "re-delivery we missed you again" slip. Thinking it odd but having faith that the post office would send me some type of notice saying what happened a few days go by and nothing. Unfortunately by the time i have time to try and figure out whats going on I see a notice saying that my item is being sent back to the sender. Outraged, I put in a complaint online but it takes them a few days to get back to me. One day I miss a call and get a voicemail from a female worker with an indian accent at the post office about my package saying they have it and its been sitting there since 7/29 and lecturing me on how they aren't able to hold more than one month and how its been there for over 1.5 months. That if I want it I can pick it up within the next two days or else it'll be returned. First off I was relieved to know I could still get my package but I was also annoyed since the sender actually shipped the item on 8/27 and how this lady's lecture was uncalled for since it was their fault. Not caring too much and just happy to get my package, I take off 2 hours from work the next day (b/c I commute to work) to go and get it, everything is great. Ironically that same day after coming home from work I get another missed pick up slip. I was unable to reschedule this one due to some error with the number and site so I rearrange my schedule and put aside time to go pick up the package the following Saturday. The day comes, I make it to the post office, and the lady at the counter turns out to be the same one who called me, older female with an indian accent. I realized this after she retrieved my NEW package from the back. She then starts lecturing me again telling me that they had this package for a while, I politely told her that this was a new one and that I picked up the other one the other day. She begins to rudely lecture me further telling me how I should just come and pick up my packages since I live two blocks away, and how much trouble it is to have things redelivered for them because it has to go back and forth from the post man to the post office. At this point I am in complete shock and can hardly believe what I'm hearing. I have never in my life and would never go off on someone while they were working and assisting me but this lady was about to get it. I was calm and tried to explain to her that I work and am not able to get the packages. But she's interruptive and argumentative going on to tell me that they close at 5 I can make it, I tell her I work till 5 I am not able to. Then she has the nerve to ask me, if I work on Saturdays? At this point I was two seconds away from ripping her a new one. If she hadn't ended the conversation by having me sign the slip and finishing the transaction, and if i had looked at the guy filling out paperwork next to me for reassurance that I wasn't the only one hearing what this lady was saying, it would have gotten ugly. Mind you this is all in a very small post office with quite a few people in there. I am still baffled at how an employee that works at a federal government can tell me to rearrange my life so their job can be easier. So unprofessional and mind boggling!! read more

Ordered something online, was shipped and received by USPS on 12/12/12, failed attempt to deliver on 12/13/12 "notice left" ( which I didnt received any notice), called USPS tracked by package on 12/14/12, it was out for delivery they lady wont be back until after 430pm so we wont know if she will deliver. Oh keep it mind, it was addressed to my work address because we always get deliveries in the AM, not 6:33pm. 5:20pm on 12/14/12 called and spoke with Jose @ the sorting office?, said he will put it on the shelves to be dropped off @ Station A and to pick up any time after 1130am. 12/15/12 @ 1pm, I tried to pick it up, according to the lady she couldn't find it, we even called the "sorting office" and Alejandra said it's not there. Okay, So where the FUCK is my package? I asked to speak with a supervisor because this is getting stupid. Oh wait, she is the freaking supervisor. She was "apologetic", but doesn't know where my package is. WTF is the tracking number for? the last note on it was 12/13/12 saying they left a notice that i didnt receive. The "supervisor" said she would call me back after she tries to look some more, and i should wait until Monday they MIGHT redeliver. Today I called and spoke with the same guy I spoke with on Friday night, Jose (rude as ever, altho he tries to help), says that he was the one that put it on the shelf for delivery to Station A and the carrier dropped it off @ 0845am SATURDAY morning. So I called again to Station A, spoke with a different supervisor Susan, looked once, came back to the phone and said she doesn't have time to do a thorough search, and will call me back in two hours.. the mission to find the missing package will continue..... read more

While this is the most convenient post office to my house, I avoid it. The lines more slowly, the lobby is bare (not even a stamp machine or proper supplies).
