Here's my story: I was expecting a package with perishables inside. I checked the USPS tracking # and it stated "out for delivery." When the mail came and no package, I checked again and the USPS site had updated to "Package being held for pickup at customers request." I made no such request. Nampa has 2 post offices, but no address was listed. So I went to the post office downtown (5 miles) and waited in line for 20 minutes only to have them explain that the package was given to the wrong courier, and could be picked up at the other post office (another 5 miles). They gave me the address and the phone number. Not even sure why they have a phone# because it immediately goes to a message "Welcome to Verizon wireless, the person you are trying to reach is not available." The next day, the tracking website said it was available for pickup, but offered a "chat", which I tried. What a waste of time that was. There is no human interface as real companies trying to win your business provide, just a chat bot that has no information whatsoever. So I drove to the other post office only to be told that it was out for delivery! Any other business run this way would not be a business. Their tracking website is worthless. Whoever developed it should definitely not be doing websites. We used to laugh at other countries because of how inefficiently government services were run. The US post office is definitely worse. Should be privatized, and closed down in lieu of a business that is actually there to win your business.

There is a friendly banter that seems fun and personable which I have observed with those who appear to be regulars. (I am new to Star) I recently witnessed a lady working in the front with pretty eyes who was so kind and patient with an elderly woman while she chatted. When I commented on how I appreciated that she did not rush this older lady, but took time to hear her story, she told me, " I have elderly clients come in that only buy one stamp maybe once or twice a week and I think this may be some of the only interactions they get. They just buy a stamp so they can have a brief conversation with someone." This warmed my heart, and I hope it warms yours. With people like this working here it makes me want to come back. Let's all remember this is the post office and not UPS or FedEx. They are not for profit and so they do not create our labels, or tape up our packages for us. Those are expectations for the profitable corporations that charge double. I still marvel that they will carry my letter across the United States for a fraction of a dollar. I know it has doubled since it was 33 cents in 1999. Uhhh, what about the cost of food in the last 5 years?

Dolly is a rude, embittered gossip that intrudes into your private life by looking at your mail. She also charges you for her mistakes with a great big dollop of schadenfreude. I entered the tiny shack of a building at approximately three minutes to closing and she without a word, slopped my mail around, begrudgingly slapping stamps on my mail (which I couldn't figure out why she chose to put stamps on when I didn't know the exact postage either) and then realized her mistakes and complained it was my fault that she goofed up since I was there at 4pm! Wow, Dolly! You have descended ALL standards of unprofessional customer service! I paid for Dolly's mistake because she asked me to stick my card back in so she could charge me. I certainly didn't want her to lord it over me for not paying for her carelessness. To boot, each and every time I see her, she invades my privacy by asking where I live and then looks at my mail to figure it out! She asked about my family. I went to church in the same building a few times many many years ago where Dolly just happened to frequent. I do not know her, but she is LDS and those people spy for their leaders. My personal matters are NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!!! Dolly needs to retire as she is clearly burned out! She needs to quit being the gestapo for her religious cult and act professional!

Let's start with US First Class Shipping. If your item is less than 13 ounces and fits the right dimensions, you can ship US First Class mail. It's about a 2 to 3 bucks across the USA and it comes with free tracking. If your item is more than 13 ounces, your best bet is to do the Flat Rate Shipping. Guess what, the Flat Rate boxes and envelopes are FREE. Yes, you heard me FREE. Let me spell it out for you. F-R-E-E. I know you're saying, " What's the catch?" There is no catch. go to their website and order your supplies. Here's the run down on the supplies. The Flat Rate Box can double as Flat Rate or Priority Express Mail. Flat Rate is typically two to three business days while the Priority is the next day. Sometimes the Flat Rate and Priority Mail can be the same day. If it does not need to be there absolutely positively overnight, just ship it Flat Rate. Flat Rate comes with $50 of insurance and Free tracking. Your agents are Valerie, Amy, and Mark on most days. They are all great and customer focused. Most likely you will be in line about 10-12 people deep. Most of the customers in front of you don't know how to mail or didn't take advantage of the FREE Supplies and the others are picking up their packages with their little brown slips. You can always use the two automated machines in the lobby. They will work with your Flat Rate boxes and padded envelopes. If you choose to see Valerie, Amy, or Mark, here's some tips. (1) Answer their question whether or not the item is fragile, liquid or hazardous. Matter of fact, check online before you go whether or not the item you are sending can be sent via USPS. (2) Know when you want the item to be delivered (3) They will ask you if you need further mailing supplies or cash back so be prepared. Lastly, don't be that guy or gal that walks in and does the sigh of all time. I appreciate their service and the fact they do it so efficiently. Plus, I'm saving a bundle by shipping via the USPS.
