I called and spoke with Leo and today, Linda (Lulu) and explained to them that while I had sent previous packages to this same address and that they were delivered , I was very unhappy to get this one back and wasn't sure why this happened. Not only did I pay for that original service, but now I was reshipping the same box only to have to pay once more. I was desperate to make sure that there was not a repeat performance when the shipment arrived there next week. Both Leo and Linda/Lulu were not only very professional and helpful, they were cheerful and offered assurances that I would not have another problem.

Since we live out of the area most of the time, it's really convenient to have a local delivery address. We paid our most recent bill ($166 annually for a small box) by mail one week in advance of the 1/31 due date printed on our bill. A few weeks later, I was in town and went to check our box, only to find I had been locked out. When I asked to speak to the manager (JR) he advised me that notices were slipped into boxes in early January that customers had to pay for their renewal by 1/9 in order to avoid a rate increase to $198. If you were out of town during the holidays and didn't get the notice, too bad. Even though we had paid the $166 bill on time, he demanded an additional $32 PLUS a $25 late fee. According to JR, we were responsible for accessing our box on a daily basis in order to receive and act on any such notices of fee increases - even those which conflicted with the bill we were previously mailed. Really? Daily? Where is this ridiculous policy written? JR insisted that this requirement was printed on the USPS PO Box application, but couldn't show me where - because it is not. Bottom line, this Louis DeJoy wannabe could care less about being fair to loyal customers.

And as we all know it takes a while to change behavior and perception. The "New" Carmel Cleaners now owned by a lovely guy- he also owns The Grove Laundry in PG. he was a Commander in the South Korea Navy and that discipline is reflected in his business. Anyway you cut it having a cleaning business serving the public is a tough business. Clothing is personal -we get attached to items and unfortunately sometimes clothing gets ruined. No matter where you go. I look for cleanliness, on time delivery, careful handling of my items, staff attentiveness and support. The New version is spot ( no pun intended) on with the preceding requirements. Soony ( his name shortened) is very friendly and totally committed to customer satisfaction. I bring him high end clothes and don't worry. I can't say that about some other establishments. I am in his store once a week with drop offs and pick ups. He is great with all bedding. Sheets and Duvets are impossible to do at home but he has the equipment to wash and press so they look and feel brand new. In all the times we've used him we had one mishap. I brought back my wife's expensive blouse and showed him the problem that he acknowledged and Took complete financial responsibility for the item. No questions. A very classy business man. If you still haven't tried Carmel Cleaners because you remember the Old Days please give this new version a try. When you pick your clothes up you get an itemized list of all your clothes with a price for each. Never in the old version. Enjoy

My review is slightly biased since I do not rely on getting my mail at the Carmel by the Sea Post…read moreOffice. For those who don't know, Carmel By the Sea does not have home delivery of mail. Residents need to go to the Post Office and pick up their mail. The hours are limited and as one would imagine, service is well at a level less than a tired tortoise. If you're on vacation and want to get some free nostalgia, then the Carmel By the Sea Post Office is for you. My last visit was completely nostalgic but it wasn't always this way. I often accompanied my father to check the mail in the PO Box as a little kid. He would take a break from being a chef at the restaurant he worked and later owned and ask me if I wanted to come along. As any kid would, I gladly accompanied him on the short walk from Dolores and 7th to Dolores and 5th. Along the way, we would check out rival restaurants and pop into fellow shop owners, and say hello. Once in the Post Office, I marveled how my Dad was able to turn the knob/ dial to the selected letters to open the tiny rectangular brass mailbox and retrieve the mail. When I think about it now, it reminds me of the same precision a safe-cracker uses to open a vault. The turns and counter-turns were so exact that one little mistake resulted in the mailbox not opening. One afternoon after the restaurant closed, I asked my Dad, if he would teach me how open to the coveted brass mailbox of 6629 in the Carmel by the Sea Post Office. We briskly made the walk all the way to the Post Office. He showed me twice how to open it but alas I failed on my tries. It was so mesmerizing when he did it that I could not pay attention long enough to remember the steps. My Dad stayed patient when others would have said, 'let's go. He decided to show me smaller steps and let me practice the smaller steps until I had them down before adding the next turn and counter-turn. What probably felt like an eternity for him, which was more like forty minutes, I achieved my first success in opening the mailbox. It was a combination of Christmas morning and winning a game of Checkers for me at that time. When the Carmel Rancho branch opened later, they too had PO boxes but they were all of the keyed variety so I was not able to hone my craft but I still remember that PO Box number. 221054. When I recently returned, I tried desperately to remember the steps he taught me so many years ago. I was hopeful that I would be able to open it and achieve glory once more but alas like so many times prior I failed so epically. I will always remember the Carmel Post Office fondly but I am thankful that I don't have to rely on it for mail but I just once, I would not mind tackling the brass dials one more time maybe with my kids or grandkids. We'll see.

If you have a choice, only have Sharon wait on you. Otherwise go to another post office.read more
