I haven't written a review in probably years, but this one had to be noted. This situation is still pending. I also don't live in Lincoln Park so I have to make special trips every time I go to the post offices there. I ordered jewelry for my wedding that's been going in a circle since the beginning to middle of November 2012 . It was originally sent to the incorrect address over on Diversey so the package is going through the Lincoln Park post office. I tracked the package and saw that it was being sent to the wrong place. I called 800-ask-usps and spoke with someone who told me to pick up my package at the Sheffield/Fullerton location. When I got there, they looked at me like I was the biggest fool in the world and told me that they don't hold packages there and to go to Clark street. I explained that the 800 number directed me there and they told me "Yeah, they always give out the wrong information". --If you're aware that your company is giving out the wrong information, how about trying to rectify that problem? I went to Clark street the next day and the woman at the front told me the package was scanned but she didn't know by who. She contacted the carrier and the carrier said she didn't have it and didn't know who scanned it. The woman at the desk told me they'd call me if she saw it and took my number, I never heard from anyone even though the package has passed through the Clark location at least 4 times since then. I called 800-ask-usps again about a week later and spoke to a girl who gave me a case number and start an investigation. She said I'd hear from someone within 1 business day. I have not heard from anyone at all. Ever. I stopped at Clark about 3 days after that to see if they had my package and they didn't have any info on it besides the tracking info. Still bouncing from NJ back to IL and back to NJ and back to IL, They actually argued with me about the tracking info and said they never had it even though the tracking info says they had it several more times. So I Called back to 800-ask-usps after that because it had been 4 days and I still had not heard from anyone. I spoke with another person who told me there was a note on my case saying someone had called and spoken to me and explained what was going on and that person had noted on my account that they even apologized for the inconvenience. No one has ever called. The note is a complete, detailed lie. I had the person confirm my phone number was correct and it was. So I don't know who this person supposedly spoke to, but it wasn't me. I was told that a note would be put in the account to have the package sent back to original sender and that I should try to get the package from the facility if it ends up back in Chicago again. The package continues to go in circles between NJ and IL to this day. I've stopped at the Post Office 2 more times and they never know where the package is. The woman at the desk is less than helpful. She gave me Maureen's number. Maureen is supposedly in charge of packages that need to be found. Maureen is never available when I go there. I've also left Maureen 2 messages and never heard from her. I called 800-ask-usps again today because I was actually trying to call the NJ post office directly, but you get the general number everywhere I look. (To 800-ASK-USPS's credit, every person I've spoken to has been very nice and at least seemed helpful. I cannot say the same for anyone I've dealt with in person at the Clark location.) The girl I spoke to today at 800-ask-usps informed me I should've been given the Consumer Affairs number after the first time I didn't hear from anyone and started my case with them. I called Consumer Affairs this afternoon and sat on hold for over 45 minutes. Finally someone answered for a split second and then put me back on hold. Someone answered again maybe 10 seconds later and then hung up without saying anything, ending the call. I yelled out in frustration to myself and my empty apartment. Then I called back and sat on hold for another 45 minutes before someone answered. The woman at Consumer Affairs said she'd send an inquiry to the NJ post office to see if they could get it back to Chicago or if they would get it back to the sender finally. She took my phone number and said she'd call me back. She said if she could get it back to Chicago she'd pass on my correct address and have it sent to me. I hope this works. She also mentioned that if I didn't reference her name if/when I called Consumer Affairs back that I'd have to start all over because they wouldn't be able to trace my case if I didn't. Are you serious? I have a tracking number and a case number, is that not enough? The system is obviously not working for them and this might be one problem of many. I will remember her name and we will see what happens from here. Crossing my fingers. read more

Incompetence. I sent a certified letter from Edmond, OK to our new apartment management company thinking "If I send this certified then it will definitely get to them." I guess I put too much faith in the receiving post office. They received it all right, but after that they just "didn't know where it was" anymore. It took our leasing agent insisting they look multiple times and flat out refusing to leave without some sort of check in hand from them before they managed to actually do their jobs and find the letter. It seems like with so many poor, poor reviews it's no wonder the postal service is losing money. We''ll be using UPS or FedEx in the future if we have anything of importance to send. read more

I have had a similar experience at this location as described below (the bad ones). The fact of the matter is that part of the job of the managers/carriers/whoever is physically in this office IS dealing with the public, who, as directed by the post office itself, come here to pick up packages. Trust me, nobody would come here unless directed and desperate. Every job at some point is irritating to the person in the role. It by no means makes it acceptable to disrespect other humans regularly. Period. If you don't like what you're doing, seek out other employment. Or in this case, when the Weiner Circle is hiring, put your application in there as it sounds like a better fit with its abusive customer service tactics. And when the majority of the reviews (as we see here on Yelp) have the same message, well... My advice: a positive attitude is contagious and practice makes perfect! Try it some time. Why this place still exists, perfectly explains why the US Government is so broke and a waste of taxpayers' dollars! I showed up, spoke very loudly, announcing my presence first, before ringing the counter bell about 15 times expecting someone to at least acknowledge my presence, even if they didn't want to stop their smoke break / bullshit conversations in the backroom (yes, I could smell the smoke you losers!). This has been referred to as the WORST POST OFFICE IN CHICAGO! I disagree. This is by far the WORST POST OFFICE IN THE USA! Hell, this makes the 2 lazy old folks behind the counter at 540 N Dearborn seem highly productive (yeah, don't go there either)! A 1 star rating is way too much for these folks! Yelp really needs a negative scale as well--such as 1-5 stars (all negative red ones) that explain why NOBODY should EVER visit this place of business. I don't expect great service when entering any sort of government institution, but this place is so awful it is almost beyond words. The workers are rude to the point of outright hostility, but even worse, they are blatantly racist towards anyone white. I'm pretty sure that glaring and snapping "WHAT!?" at someone walking up to the counter isn't considered an appropriate greeting by the USPS, but that was by FAR the most pleasant part of my interaction today. Ugh! I wish I could do something so I didn't have to deal with this particular post office. We live in Lincoln Park and was noticing that we weren't receiving mail, as well as getting notifications from friends for returned holiday cards.... even though the address was correct and legible. I've tried calling numerous times, some with busy signals non-stop, another where they apologized for the inconvenience and mail would be coming out regularly again (4 days and still no mail), being put on hold for 20 mins and forgotten about and then calling back and not taking me seriously. What does it take to just get our regular mail?! Not sure why this is such a problem and why this is occurring, but I'm hoping someone from this sector reads all these terrible reviews and does something about it. read more

Lincoln Park Carrier Annex response --I worked several times as a mail carrier at this facility and had positive experiences. One thing that is common at an Annex is they are usually short-staffed with clerical people who scurry about dealing with 60 - 70 mail carriers, 2 - 4 supervisors/manager demands as well as the visiting public. They also have responsibility for postal vehicle keys, route keys and scanner assignments, distribution of all "certified" mail and express parcels, sorting the "hot case" mail/periodicals which can be several thousand pieces daily and general parcel sorting which also can number in the thousands and all of which needs to be completed - like yesterday (everyday)... A huge volume of material for which accuracy is tantamount, a sizable number of internal people (primarily mail carriers) who are oftentimes stressing them before they ever get to the viewing public. And on scale, it is one of the lower paying postal jobs... read more

Saturday, our 3-flat received 8 pieces of mail for 4 different people who live at a different address. Our street address in etched in the concrete steps and is on the door. Our building received no mail for the 6 people and one business located here. Where was our mail delivered to???? Also, I now put "Leave in Lobby" (that has no lock) under my street address for all packages. Sign on door says "Please Leave Packages in Lobby". A package was to come Saturday and tracking said "Unable to deliver - No access to Delivery". I believe a blind person would be better at delivering our mail than those who are hired now. I haven't written a review on here and years and sure didn't expect to now, but I felt I had to. I work for a startup company in Colorado and we had a customer purchase something through our website recently. The package was shipped out and the tracking was showing it was delivered 5 days ago but our customer didn't have the package. I contacted this post office and was surprised that someone answered the phone within 3-4 rings (if you've called many post offices before, you know they normally don't answer). I believe the woman that answered the phone was Gabby. I then explained the issue to her and let her do her thing. She said she would talk to the delivery driver and look around the office and call me back. While looking for the phone number to that location I had found came across the yelp page and was not at all expecting a lot. 30 minutes later I got a call back that the package was there and she was happy to call the customer for me to talk to her about picking up the package or scheduling a delivery! I was totally surprised and shocked. I have been contacting post offices for years for issues like this for various companies I've worked for and I would say 70% of the time no one ever answers a phone, especially in a large city like Chicago. This was the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. Not what I would expect from a post office. I called to inquire about a package that was blocked and the representative let me know that it was not delivered because there was no name on the mailbox. First of all, the mailbox is too small for my package. I have received packages from other carriers without an issue and they usually just put it at the door since I live in a walk up. This lady straight up told me that she will never have packages delivered at my address again since I don't have a mailbox, which I do! Literally the most ridiculous thing I have gone through with a postal service. She was extremely rude and I will definitely be reporting this encounter. read more

Only giving 1 star because I have to. I've had the same problem as others where my packages are deemed undeliverable because they "can't access the delivery location." I have been at home at the times when delivery was attempted, so I know they did not come. I got screamed at on the phone, hung up on, and eventually went to the office where I was told they would provide no more information. I ended up tracking my delivery man down in the street and he told me that this happens when mail gets mis-sorted at the post office, meaning my package went out with another deliverer in the city. The most recent instance of this, today, they just went ahead and returned my package to sender. It was supposed to be delivered "priority" three business days ago and after two non-existent delivery attempts, they are now returning it to sender. So great!!!!! read more

Yesterday I went to drop off to buy stamps because the machine that dispenses them was broken. The wait was fifteen minutes. There were three of us in line and four people at the counter. If I could give this location less than 1 star I would. The lady that I've seen working here the few times I've been in and who was working today (1/25/18) is an absolute witch. I dread ever coming over here to ask a question and no matter how calm and polite I am she is beyond rude and condescending, sometimes nearly yelling and to the point that I need to ask her to calm down and remind her that I am not upset I am simply asking a question. Went there to drop off a prepaid package. There were 2 people there at what looked to be a drop off center. Each person had a pc in front of them. It took them best 5 minutes to explain to someone why a return receipt was not mailed on something. Then one of them asked if she could help. I said I had a prepaid package and needed a scan. She said drop it off in the box and it will get scanned when she processed them. I asked if a scanner was available now and she said the scanner was full. I thanked her and left with my package. The USPS scanners are hand held. She was doing nothing else. She had a pc. She could have scanned the package in. Going there was a complete waste. 1 star read more

I really want to give them negative stars. This place should have a hidden camera and be televised. The worst post office facility in the US and that's an accomplishment. They almost never answer the phone, when they do an unintelligible man named Peter barks at you and can never help you. He yells at you, hangs up on you but never and I mean never will solve your problem. They lose most of my mail and won't ever help me locate it. The only mail I get is junk, they lose anything else. Had an order from B&H Photo Video that was initially sent via FedEx with the final delivery scheduled with the USPS. The tracking information reported that an attempt was made to deliver but that no one was home to accept. The package was now available for pickup at the post annex. I was not looking forward to trying to find my package. I expected the worst and was pleasantly surprised. The postal employee was very helpful and very nice. She explained that no packages were delivered for a couple of days due to the extremely cold weather that also caused schools to be closed. To help me with my package. She searched for my package in the main area but couldn't find it. She then called the postal carrier on the phone who was on her route to see if she had it in her van for delivery. The carrier said no but told her that it might be in another bin in the annex. The annex employee searched for my package and found it. She was very friendly and very helpful. Will I expect this kind of pleasant service again? Probably not, unless I'm helped by the same lady. However, on that one cold, afternoon day in January, I received 4 star service from the USPS. read more

I sent out 5 gift cards on Dec 10 which were never delivered so 5 people did not get their Christmas gifts . Additionally I have an order coming from Cedar Rapids to Chicago which for some reason ended up in Dallas. That was supposed to be delivered today but no such luck. Chicago USPS is THE worst....and this particular place is like the rotted icing on the cake. I never got any notification that they tried to deliver a package to my home- and when I finally looked it up online it said it it was going to be redelivered the next day. It never was. I looked it up again and it said it was being held at the post office in Lincoln Park and I had 15 days to pick it up. No phone number to call and confirm. When I finally tracked down the number- I got a busy signal for 5 days. Give me a break, they aren't THAT busy. When I finally got there it was the 11th day (I was out of town for the holidays) the lady at the counter said they returned it on day 3. Once I showed her the snapshot of the info online, she said she had no idea why it stated they would hold the package for 15 days. These ppl are idiots. I will never use USPS to send anything again. I live in a Lincoln Park high rise and have continually received horrible delivery service. This is not my first complaint, but my first yelp review. Today: my doorman handed me five letters that had been placed in the wrong mailbox yesterday. Even worse, I wasn't even surprised. How difficult is it to place clearly marked apartment numbers in the appropriate box? Whenever our regular postman has a substitute, you can be sure mail will not be properly delivered. First of all, the phone number isn't even correct on here. I don't think these guys want us calling them. Secondly, I don't receive half my mail. Third, when people send things to me with the correct address, it still gets returned to them as undeliverable. What's up with that? Also, wWhen I have had FedEx smart post deliver packages to this distribution center, it took 3 weeks to then get to my house, which is only about a mile away. I receive and mail everything from my office downtown and it is way faster. This Lincoln Park distribution center is probably one of the worst in the country. read more

The service is terrible. I've complained online, on the phone and in person. It has gotten worse. In person they smile and try to get you to call a number. No attempt to contact a supervisor. On the phone I was informed that it would be a 45min wait. I was on the phone for over an hour before someone picked up, when she did she was laughing and continued to giggle the whole time I was telling her my issues. Nothing got resolved! I have not received various packages and letters over the last year. I'm constantly getting my neighbors mail and they are getting mine. Now when I do get my mail they don't bother to put it in the mailbox and just toss it on the ground. I have lived in Cicero and Oak Park, it was a rare to have any issues at those addresses. Since I've moved to Lincoln Park it is one issue after another and it's getting worse. I don't think they care. They have a strong union and it is almost impossible to get fired. This post office is awful! We haven't received our mail in a week. I've tried calling and their number is disconnected. I tried going to the post office to pick up the mail myself, and the hours are wrong! They close at 5:00, not 6:30. I live in an apartment complex and every day I am getting my neighbors mail on my box and vice versa! Absolutely terrible. They were difficult to contact in the first place. When I actually did, I couldn't understand what the lady (Andrea?) said because she was talking too fast so I asked her to repeat what she said and she immediately put me on hold (without telling me she was putting me on hold). I was on hold for 15 minutes before I finally hung up. I have called back 4 times since then and can't help but feel like I'm being ignored...maybe she was mad that I asked her to repeat what she said? Okay, sorry? According to the website, my package has been in Chicago for 4 days but is "in transit" and says it was supposed to be delivered 3 days ago. No updates since then and they aren't giving me any sort of answers whatsoever. Yesterday when I called, I was told someone might call me back. I did not receive any call. Not sure where to go from here. Not sure that writing a UPS review will do anything since it's inevitable to go there at some point, but maybe it can help get inconsiderate people out of there. There are many other people who would appreciate jobs in this city, so I recommend hiring people who will actually be helpful and somewhat responsive/friendly. read more

If you want your packages scanned in, don't come here. I had two pre-paid packages that I wanted mailed out and scanned in and they don't have that option. You can only drop them off in a bin which isn't secure at all. Literally anyone could just take something out of the bin if the attendant isn't paying attention. I just hope my packages make it to their destination. They also don't have any supplies so if you literally just want a postal box with a human sitting at the front, you've found the right place. read more

This was the WORST experience I have ever had with a post office. I had tickets to the Bears game sent to me via USPS. They arrived last week and I made sure someone was in the apartment to sign for the package. But apparently our mail carrier didn't feel like coming to my apartment door or buzzing my apartment for someone to come down or calling the number I left on a slip of paper so someone could come down to the lobby - so since I wasn't in the LOBBY when they came for me to sign, they left me a note that it would need to be redelivered. Okay, hate them a little bit. I work all day and cannot leave to go pick up a package, so I fill out the form asking them to redeliver it and leave it in my mailbox. Then to be sure, I call the USPS headquarters and ask them to redeliver the package as soon as possible. FIVE days pass - and no package. These are my TICKETS, so I start to worry. I, again, call headquarters and ask why they have not been redelivered. They say they don't know because the redelivery was in their system. So they should have come. Okay, hate them a little more. So, the next day I call the post office and ask if my package is there. They reassure me it is not there, that my mail carrier is bringing it that day. I make sure someone is at the apartment to sign for it and leave numerous notes for them - feeling a little relieved. Then - to my surprise, the mail comes and the package DOES NOT. Okay - pretty steamed now. I call, once more, to ask why my package is not redelivered and they say, "Well it's here for you to pick it up." WHAT? WHY? So, I ask if I can have someone else pick it up and they tell me that I can, as long as I send a note, my signature, and a copy of my license to compare the signature. So, I do all these things and have someone come pick them up. So, I send this person to go get the package and by this point the post office closes in 10 minutes. They call ahead to say they are on their way and will be there as soon as possible. They arrive, and the post office is CLOSED and they cannot get the package, even though the person on the phone said it would be okay! So, here it is, getting scarily close to Sunday and I still don't have my tickets! I have never been so frustrated! read more

Absolute worst customer service I have experienced from a Post Office (and that is saying something considering how horrible every Post Office's service is). I had live crickets delivered to this Post Office with a request for them to be held for pickup. 1. I wasn't notified that they were delivered at the Post office until after the Post office was closed for the day and the day after (which was a holiday). 2. When I called today, I was greeted by a rather unfortunate sounding individual (no surprise here given that most postal workers come across as very arrogant in spite of their ridiculously easy and menial job). When i asked if my package was delivered she was incredibly rude and short with me and was trying to rush me off the phone by saying, "I don't see it on my shelf, so it must be out for delivery." Why on earth would you deliver something that is alive in this weather that was supposed to be held for pickup? I am beyond dissatisfied with the lack of attention to detail and simple common sense shown in my issue. How hard is it to read instructions left by the shipper? Completely ridiculous. read more

I was pretty skeptical about this place after reading all the reviews but when I went in today I didn't see any of the nastiness mentioned. I went to pick up a package for my sister (priority w/delivery confirmation) and the woman there let it slide that I didn't have a piece of registered mail with me or a signature from my sister on the delivery notice. There was absolutely NO hassle and I told the worker that I appreciated her help. She explained that they are stricter with releasing things like registered mail and people turn nasty if they don't get their way. One woman even returned the following day to apologize for her behavior. Give these people a break. I should also mention that I was there in the early afternoon with only two people ahead of me - both of whom received their packages very quickly. read more

I'm keeping my review the same, but I need to add an update because there is at least one employee here who is amazing. Jasmine helped me out two days in a row with getting my packages delivered when our letter carrier decided we had moved because she saw the change of address confirmation when she delivered our mail. Anyway, Jasmine was awesome. She answered my call when the office was already closed, and allowed us to pick it up that evening. When the same thing happened today, she was able to personally speak with our letter carrier. I doubt anyone from the USPS reads Yelp reviews, but if they do, Jasmine should get a big fat raise. read more
