I have lived in Rogers Park for 8 years, and this post office never fails to boggle my mind in terms of its incompetence and complete lack of concern for people actually getting their mail. They have lost numerous gifts, created Catch-22 situations with our building's buzzer box, and, currently, are holding my wedding dress hostage. I have lived in three different states and at least seven different addresses due to college and employment opportunities so I have had plenty of contact with post offices. And I have just never seen a post office be as disorganized and randomly unproductive the way this one is. When I moved, the very first perk (outside of getting away from certain neighbors) that made me smile was knowing I would no longer have to deal with Rogers Park Post Office after debating with them too many times to count over missed mail, undelivered mail, broken CD cases, mail shoved into boxes and anything else you could think of over the last 10 years. I was extremely sad when the post office on Clark (by Rogers Park Library) closed because that one was always so prompt, professional and reliable. When I saw the workers transfer to the Rogers Park Post Office, I felt bad for them because I knew all of that quality was going to go unappreciated there. Low and behold, those workers disappeared immediately. (Hopefully they found a better place to work.) 1) They never answer the phone. I have called at least 10 times and the line is always busy, but that 800-ASK-USPS number loves to tell people to call the local post office. 2) I'm still mildly offended by the post officer worker who felt the need to tell me how ugly Shirley Chisholm is and how much she looks like a man on one of the Black Heritage Stamps. I told the woman that Chisholm's background should matter far more than whether anybody thinks she's pretty or not. And the female worker who made the comment wasn't anybody's Kelly Rowland/Beyonce Knowles/Julia Roberts anyway so she could've kept that comment to herself. 3) After at least a year of back-and-forth with supervisors over packages not being delivered, that was finally resolved. I was completely drained and it left a bitterness about this location, but it was resolved. From about 2013 to 2015, things seemed to be looking up. The service got better. I got my packages. Lines are still unbearably long and they still refuse to answer the phone, but I had no more complaints. But now there's a new problem: change of address. 4) The USPS website gives people three options to complete a change of address. Fill out the online form and pay, mail in the form to the local post office or give it to a mail clerk. I mailed change of address forms THREE times to the post office. Every last one of them came back to me unopened. Then I tried to give a form to the mail carrier, who refused to take it and told me the post office would take care of it (although this was just like any other outgoing mail). Then I went into the post office and physically handed over my Change of Address form (after standing in an unbearably long line). The lady at the window said, "I'll take care of it," circled my address and for three weeks, still no mail. I have talked to at least four representatives from that 800 number and not one of them seems to have a clue that the website gives you the option to NOT pay and mail the form in. All of them are confused about why the mail carrier wouldn't take the form. And no matter how many times I type my address out, they all call and ask me the same questions: What's your new address? Why didn't you pay online? One lady argued me down about why I should've paid online. Why would I pay the post office ANYTHING when I have enough problems doing the basics? And if it's mandatory to pay, then the website needs to remove the second and third option from the wording on the Change of Address page. They put it in fineprint, but it's there plain as day. I'd rather just not get mail altogether than give them a dime. Every time postage stamps go up or some other payment increases, the first thing I think is, "I'd have no problem paying more for better service, but Rogers Park single-handedly has ruined it for all post offices." Four complaints later and no mail. I finally got so fed up that I went to each individual person/company who I think would even humor the idea of sending me mail and notified them all. Whatever is missed will just be missed. I'm tired of listening to busy signals and customer service reps who want you to pay for something they're supposed to do for free. read more

Hands down the worst post office in the entire country. I wish I could give it zero stars because they don't deserve even one. Every time I've been there I wait a good 15 minutes in line because they seem to have two incompetent employees working. They can't seem to figure out how to get a third pea-brained person in there, but they should hire one. So when I finally reach the front of the line they always tell me I'm forgetting something and instead of waiting for me to fill out the address label they yell at me with an accent. When I ask politely for them to repeat what they said they just point and tell me to get to the end of the line. Another fifteen minutes pass and I'm ready to mail my packages and they are very abrupt and rude. They want me out of there but not as much as I want to be out of there. Still, they should show some common courtesy. After all they don't have to work on Columbus Day and that PO holiday really screwed me over so I just want to give a big shout out to this post office because they have definitely been recognized in my eyes as the absolute epitome of awful post offices. I just wanted to add my awful review to the long list of others. I had been tracking a package for a few days. The package was "delivered" February 13th. I called the USPS on the 14th about my package. I was told it was at this location for pick up. No big deal, off I go. On the 15th I wait in a long line that moved decently fast. I get to the front to be helped by a very rude lady. She eventually goes to look for the package, comes back and tells me it's not there. I begin to tell her about the delivery status and she cuts me off to say well OBVIOUSLY it was delivered then. To which I respond WELL OBVIOUSLY NOT IF I'M HERE LOOKING FOR IT. She then tells me to call back on the 18th, since they are closed the 17th, to talk to my mail carrier. I ask her what time to call, she says in the morning. I say okay and leave pretty angry at the rude service. I call back the morning of the 18th promptly at 8am. I let the phone ring for FIFTEEN minutes with no answer. Thank the lord for Victoria's Secret. They're just going to send my package again, no questions asked. However this time and every time in the future I will have packages sent to my work address. read more

They could definetely have more people working at this location. it is always crowded and the people at the desk are cranky and rude the majority of the time. You go to pick up a package and they make a huge deal out of it,even if you show 3 different IDs. They take their sweet time to assist you and once they assist you, they are rude and roll their eyes at their customers, LIKE ITS THEIR FAULT THEY HAVE TO WORK THERE. Get a new job, geeze. I understand some of the people may approach them in a rude manner but when it is just habit of treating the customers that way,it's unacceptable. It's the closest post office to me and that is the only reason I go there. There is a woman named Desiree who works here who is an absolute shrew. She can usually be found leaning on the counter, chin on her fist, with a look on her face like she smells something bad. She is rude, nasty, punitive, and downright hateful. Give her a pink package slip and she'll disappear for fifteen minutes and return empty-handed, claiming she couldn't find it. Every time!!! I'm pretty sure she uses the opportunity to smoke a cigarette out back. She snaps at people and rolls her eyes at them in annoyance and it's just beyond me how she keeps her job. (Oh, wait--this is the postal service we're talking about. You can kill people and keep your job.) Beyond her, the whole post office is off-the-rails crappy. My mail is delivered by people who can't be bothered with putting all those pesky letters, magazines, and catalogs in the individual mailboxes. The carriers based at this office chuck the mail for everyone in my building in a pile on a table. I didn't even know that was legal. We all have to go through the entire pile when we get home. I have the "informed delivery" service that scans mail addressed to me and e-mails me images of each piece, and only about half of it actually arrives. Mail is routinely lost and mangled. Sometimes--only sometimes--a package will actually be left that's actually addressed to someone in my building; mostly, they ditch packages at buildings with the same number that are a block or two apart. A shameful crapfest, and, sadly, probably typical of every post office in the country. read more

Antoinette was the worker I had an unfortunate interaction with. Didn't even listen to why I was at the usps office and then wouldn't help me find my package even though I had everything needed to pick up my package. I asked to speak to someone else who would listen and she paged the supervisor once and that was it. She didn't bother with actually getting anyone else to help me. Make no mistake, two stars is too generous for the service provided at this post office, however, as a local resident, I have to say that our mail carrier, who works out of this facility, is wonderful and a great example of USPS finest. Personable, attentive, and actually keeps track of who lives where. We seldom ever get wrong mail anymore - and he keeps track of when my tenants move, etc. so as to avoid problems for them, too. But back to the post office itself - WOW! What a nightmare! No matter how many people are in line, there is typically no more than one or two counter clerks taking customers. Meanwhile, you can hear the laughing and talking of the rest of the staff going on behind the scenes. The little office for the postmaster is usually dark or closed up, so it appears no management takes an interest in what goes on in the lobby. I haven't encountered the level of rudeness at this facility experienced by some others here, but I will say that the customer service training (if any) is poor and there appears to be no sense of urgency in handling the waiting customers. There also seems to be no real staffing plan for when an employee take a day off. Yesterday, after waiting a half hour in line simply to mail a priority letter with a return receipt, I asked the postal clerk who was helping me if she couldn't call for some backup as only one position was open. She was polite but explained that, no, she really couldn't do that because the back-up person had requested the day off. Apparently none of the mirthful staff in the back are trained/permitted to work the counter if the place gets busy. Sad. Even in discount stores, they usually keep an eye on the checkouts and open more if the lines get long. Not so at this post office. But yes, I'd still have to agree it's better than the Uptown branch, but not by much! I guess I'd better open an FedEx account if I need to do more express deliveries as the time investment in using the USPS is getting to be too big a liability. read more

I had some package tracking problems, as I am between moving apartments. When I looked up the reviews of this post office I was a bit worried, but nonetheless made the quick trip to try to pick up my package in person versus waiting for it to arrive. Upon walking in, I was pleased to see that there was no line. Note: if you have any package inquiries, line up in front of the blue door. Leavy, the person who kindly helped me, wrote down my tracking number and explained to me what was going on. She then went to the back to track down my package that was having trouble arriving and then gave it to me right then and there. If she hadn't done this, I might have not received my package for another few days, maybe a week. Perhaps I haven't been living in this neighborhood long enough to really assess mail/package experiences, but for my purposes this time, Leavy went above and beyond to help me! Worst Post Office I have ever delt with; this pertains to the office and the mail carriers. The office supervisor is almost impossible to contact. She denies having knowledge about a carrier from the day before. She makes up rules about the conduct of carriers. The few good ones never last long. This is also my local post office, but I think I am to the point where it is worth it to me to go somewhere less convenient location-wise where there is a proper amount of staff who seem to give a shit about getting their customers in and out efficiently. The staff here has always been knowledgeable and competent, save for the ability to work QUICKLY; hell, I'll even take "average pace." But these employees are like Sunday drivers! And they always appear understaffed. AND there is ALWAYS a line--and we're not talking just during lunch hour, rush hour and holidays; it's EVERY time I go in here (waited 45 minutes the other day just to purchase stamps, USPS mailing materials and to send a package)!!! So unless you are looking to lose hours of your life that you will never get back, avoid this post office at all costs! read more

Many complain about our Postal Service. Perhaps they would do well to consider the many demands on USPS Staff Members and the continual threat of 'privatization' coming at them from the White House Resident and others. Yes, sometimes the line is long; bring a book, and be patient. Often, there are not enough staff members. And why is that? Because the overall support and funding is insufficient. For decades, efforts to weaken public services have done significant damage. Expectations of staff members are high, but the support available to them is inadequate. Our 'regular' delivery person is great; long hours and always doing her best for everyone. Many people are under stress; working long hours; living paycheck to paycheck and we all need to recognize that being gracious to others matters. The crazy 'Amazon' frenzy can warp a person's perspective. We will all do well to re-evaluate our expectations and be supportive of those who do the real work of the world. read more

Cool it, princesses. I just moved to Chicago from Oakland, and this place was perfectly functional for a city PO. There's definitely a line at the package pick-up, but regular service was friendly and fairly swift. I was there during lunch after a 3-day weekend, and I only waited in line for under 60-seconds. The workers are polite and awesome for dealing with some of the ridiculous customers I've seen come in there. I even saw a guy loose his temper when a worker could not mail his Christmas cards the way he wanted and he yelled at her and stormed out hitting the windows of the doors as he left. I think maybe next year he should skip the holiday cards...lol. Kudos to the workers for handling people like that with class. The reviews made it sound much worse than it actually is (they were funny, for once). I don't know if the staff is the same as for the other customers who had such bad experiences but it didn't go that bad for me. I came here at 3 pm during the week, there were 4 people in line, and I was done picking my undelivered package 15 mins later. One thing: if you are picking up package and your ID does not have your address in it, bring a piece of correspondence to your name/address. this is the mess, i don't really know how those people got they jobs, no care, no consideration, no organisation, i just got from their place and i'm still upset that i need to write something to show others how their are to feel little better. When you come early, its because you came too early. When you come later, its because you came too late. When you come in the middle of the day, its because they're "too busy". Mind you, you can actually watch & Hear them lolly gagging around back there. For the time it takes for them to finally come and even look at you, they make you feel like you're wasting their time. They lost a $400. tablet. (yeah, it was "insured") No one can help, Nobody knows anything, they're mean, they don't let you speak, you can't ask questions because they'll cut you off & they act like you're tresspassing their property when you come to the counter! At a time when the USPS is under constant ideological attack, the last thing it needs is service of the kind at this post office. The negative comments are right on target (not the name calling of employees) as to the slow nature of this post office and the inexplicable assigning of one person when the line begins to grow (one time, the same employee also was handling passport applications). Management here needs replacing. The last straw was today when I was informed that (after handing over $20 for a $6.99 charge) that there was no change, but "someone has been sent to the bank." When you die you will go here, to the Post Office on Devon. If you have led an exemplary life, you will be raptured quickly from this Sartrean Tartarus. If your status is more ambiguous, you will wait in line for 10-40 minutes, years, months, millennia to see the one person working the counter, who may chat up every single person ahead of you, including the Russian guy with the plaid bag who mails 15-20 boxes somewhere every single afternoon at 3:45. For God's sake, make sure you have your padded envelope, overnight sleeve, or express pack, or you will be sent back for it and to the beginning of the queue. You will see postal workers in the back, but they will never wait on you--or anybody. Their punishment seems to consist mainly of walking from the far back of the building all the way to the front foyer, then spinning around and walking back. If you have to pick up a package there, God help you. Just go to Evanston--just take your damn mail, get in your car, and drive to Evanston. It's not far, but it's like another country. A country with a functioning postal service. Or do what I do--throw money at it by using the UPS store down the street just past Glenwood. For 20 dollars you can mail that package quickly and get your damn life back. read more

After reading a few reviews on here I was NOT looking forward to my call (I haven't been getting mail and people sending have gotten things sent back to them like I don't live there anymore), but I must say it was a pleasant, easy experience. The young lady that answered the phone (in only three rings) was helpful, patient and, dare I say, pleasant to talk to. She apologized and said she would write up a special notice to my carrier and that it would hopefully solve the problem. Sporadically got mail to begin with; once a week but have not received mailed in 3 weeks. Went to Post Office , no one has a clue. Coincidentally I went to move my car from 2 blocks up to in front of my apartment building and I see a mailman. I wait until he delivers the mail for the building he was at, across the street, up the block from my residence and inquire if he's the carrier for my address. He responds "yes". I proceed to tell him about not receiving mail and he says, I thought you moved. There was no name on the mail box.. I'm like REALLY!!!! It was on there with a yellow sticky which may have inadvertently fell off BUT my mailbox number is there AND I didn't put in a change of address SO why would you think that. WTF.. He sent it back to the main Post Office.. Proceeds to tell me they should send it back.. WHY WOULD THEY!! You said I moved and the mail probably has been returned to senders; credit cards, checks, bills, etc.... I'm dumbfounded at this point!!!!! read more

I'm 65 years old and moved to Roger's park from Andersonville five years ago. I've had more lost and misdelivered mail in these five years than in my previous 60 - by far. They do not follow through on remedial actions. They adamantly refuse to answer the phone. When I addressed this issue in person, the clerk chuckled and told me they just let the phone ring. read more

On more than one occasion, this post office has delivered late packages days after logging the tracking number as delivered in their system. They also arbitrarily decide to stop delivering my mail for weeks at a time. The most recent batch of missing mail only appeared after I filed claims through the inspector general hotline. I'm unsure whether they're understaffed, incompetent, or a combination of the two. read more

NEVER AGAIN! Every time I have gone into this post office for the last month, there is a one hour wait. I feel sorry for the one postal worker working in the morning as he does all the work: answers questions, ships packages, then goes int eh back and talks to a "supervisor" who never comes out to help, even when there is a line of 20 to 30 people. I opened a UPS box recently and am so happy that I do not have to wait one hour just to get a package form my USPS box! They should just close this place if they cannot do their job effectively. It is time. It is disgusting and shameful that they make people wait in line for an hour, even elderly and disabled who have no where to sit. read more

I heard so many bad things about this post office, but in my case I had great experience. I was waiting for a very important package on Saturday, I missed the person who delivers the mail. I went to the post office and told them that I needed that package really badly. A lady took my details and told me she would call me when the office was closed and all the delivery trucks were back. The mail delivery folks out of this branch are atrocious. On more than one occasion, I have had a Netflix DVD broken because the delivery person jammed it into the mailbox. This costs me money because I then lose time with my rentals. There is no way a carrier would not know that stuffing a DVD into my mailbox would not potentially damage it. There is plenty of room in the lobby to leave it on the floor in front of the mailbox. My neighbors are quite respectful and would notice it right away. Unfortunately, I cannot control the size of my mailbox (it is quite small for modern standards), but should common sense not prevail? After all, these carriers regularly leave other mail items on the floor for me to retrieve with no issue. Additionally, I came home last week to a mailbox where the carrier had placed ALL of the Comcast offers (individually addressed) into my mailbox. Lastly, my parents are kind enough to send care packages via USPS every once in a while. They are always sent via priority mail in the same size shipping box, but this post office seems to have a wavering policy of whether or not they will drop it off or request I pick it up. I have a record of the prices/weights, and they are relatively the same each time. I work in a customer service oriented field and would never pull these shenanigans even on the most obnoxious customer. We all pay for a basic level of service that includes timely delivery, accurate delivery, consistent policies, and nearly 100% INTACT mail. Placing a complaint with this postal office does no good as the management is just as apathetic as the customer service/carriers. In an economy such as this where the postal industry is having serious losses, how can these employees be so careless and unapologetic? I want the USPS to stay in business and regularly campaign for workers' rights, but this experience has made me think otherwise. read more

I try to avoid this post office like the plague but unfortunately it is my local post office, so when they left one of those undeliverable notices I was there yesterday morning promptly at 7:30 AM to pick up my package. This post office is scheduled to open at 7:30 but they didn't open up until 7:45, keeping 8 patrons waiting. I wish I could start my job 15 minutes late. Guess what the clerk did when he finally opened the metal gate to the service counter? If you said wait on customers you're wrong. The first thing he did was to totally ignore the 8 people standing there to instead putts around on the back counter with one of those postal letter tubs. And all he did was pick it up and move it 2 feet to the left. It was as if he was going out of his way to ignore his customers and provide bad service. This is not the first time something like this has happened. It is no wonder why the post office is losing money. My advice to the Post Office is to begin firing people at this office. My advice to the public is don't use this post office. A carrier pigeon can do a better job of delivering the mail than these folks and that's even with the carrier pigeon being extinct. read more
