Tax day. 33 people in line...only 2 people working the counter for the last 45 minutes. Still in line. Really poor planning.

I signed up on yelp just to write this review. I am very very very disappointed to write this but it is true. I chose USPS to send out my tax return, using 2-day priority service since I thought it would be better. After 12 days, it is still in transit. I called the customer service several times. Good attitude, but no useful advice. I wrote a complain online and davis post office called me and left a message. I called back, nobody answered. I had to go to the office in person. It is a busy Monday I agree. However, a lady over there just told me that it was not guaranteed since it is a priority mail! What! Did you mean that it should be lost?! Not even an apologize?! Then she let us talk to another gentleman. He first helped us look up my tracking number and figure out I had already set up a case number for this issue. Then he recommended me call to the austin post office and talk to a delivery supervisor since he was too busy to help me and he could do nothing. I chose USPS since I trusted them. They all seem to be nice before I pay the money. When it comes to a complain, nobody is responsible for this. Plus: When calling their customer service, generally they sound nice. However, it really brings trouble to me cuz I will need to send out another tax return. read more

I like most of the staff, but this business needs to work on efficiency. Watching some of the employees makes my blood pressure skyrocket. There are often employees wandering around without doing anything while there is a line out the door. I used to love getting packages in the mail, but now I dread going to this post office because I know I have to plan to stand in line for at least one hour. read more

Been here a couple of times. Line was long on both occasion. The first time, I just simply needed to send out a letter, and there was a ridiculously long line. Luckily, they do have a self serve kiosk, which was really helpful. However, this last time that I went, I arrived at 4:30. Post office closes at 5pm. Line was, again, really long. However, I needed to get in the passport line, which was about 4 people long. So I figured it wouldn't be too bad, stood in line and the guy immediately tells me he's closed... He was rude and inconsiderate and I don't know why he would be closed 30 minutes before posted time. Really ticked me off. read more

Customer service has been pretty bad; the phone number is useless unless you like hearing phone rings with no voicemail, their will call doesn't open when they say they do and IF you get someone on the phone, they're very curt and unfriendly. But I suppose i'd be angry too if my job was losing government funding and seen as the Shasta of delivery services. read more

I've gone several times and it has been adequate service, but every time I try calling, they never pick up or are rude. They refuse to be helpful. I went in person to ask about a package that was supposedly delivered and this white guy talks down to me as if I was stupid for going there and I didn't speak english. read more

This place keeps going from bad to worse. Had scheduled to go pick a package as I'm rarely at home because of work to sign for anything that needs delivery confirmation. Guess what, the package was 'out for delivery'! With Fedex and UPS, at least you have a chance to pick something up after work since they are open late. read more

This place has really GONE DOWNHILL! Three years ago, this post office was putting other people's mail and rent checks into my PO Box, and still does occasionally. In the past 6 weeks, my packages have been opened and stuff has been lost or taken out. One of my packages had big gashes as if someone took a knife to open it. The item was in a box inside of a package and the box was opened and the wires were literally out of the package. The remote is missing. Then, when I called the main post office to file a complaint. They lied and told the main Post Office Center that someone had called me, which they did not. I cannot wait for my post office renewal box. I am definitely not staying on here. The main post office center gave me the number to consumer affairs which regulates this post office. Hopefully, they will be auditted. Please be aware, they open up packages and stuff is taken out. This has been done to me 3 times now in several weeks and then they lie. Good luck! read more

These people are the definition of 'no can do'. I don't ever write reviews but this is a case to make an exception. It was too much trouble for the workers at this office to check on a delivery that was guaranteed by a specific hour - this was a delivery of live animals. Their comment was 'you can get a refund if they die'. read more

Terrible service!!!! Waited in line 45 minutes trying to renew my passport and had to deal with the boss James who is a complete incompetent manager. He had 6 windows open and had the passport line with no one. He stated that he would put someone in that line once the other line went down. That main line never went down and the passport line grew larger. When we talked to James again he continued to be ignorant and has no ability to look at the situation and formulate a plan to manage both lines. Just left knowing when you have to deal with someone like James that does not have the intellection ability to solve situations like this your just wasting your time. read more

Usually snappy, have given me false information about my package, an didn't do their job properly. I went in to drop off my expensive $300 package there, and the lady who "helped" me said to set my package aside at a different window. This didn't initially bother me, but it started to worry me, so I zoomed over to the post office to ask about it, and I made it as soon as a guy was closing the doors, and so I asked him if they'd scan/ make sure that package got out, and he reassured me it would in a totally sarcastic smart a** way. So guess what folks! 5 days and not a single scan done on my package. When I inquired about this the lady told me that it would be scanned when it was delivered because that's "how it's supposed to be done", but past experiences and USPS policy said otherwise, so this lady flat out lied to me because she's just a lazy and good-for-nothing kinda gal. Theft. All my boxes were sliced open and things were missing. I luckily had insured them all. Some boxes were even ripped open like with a big hand. Things were missing and things were broken. It was quite obvious it was intentional. Then I have also had mail never delivered to me. I was told that there is stealing going on here at this post office. A man at the window told me..."I know I am not suppose to say this...but I actually see them steal things in the back". He said he is sick and tired of it. I had gone there to make a report because my kids mailed me a mother's day present and I never received it. I have never had this problem before with any post office. staff is great, hours are fair, it is the post office and they seem to be doing the best they can.

An example of the sad embarrassment that is the US Postal Service. Many of the workers in the branch, the post master and many of the carriers have among the worst and negative attitudes of any area I've ever dealt with -- not to mention their dog policy is completely outrageous and insulting. Threatening to not send mail out to the entire street because your puppy is outside? What a complete joke! If I had any other options I'd cancel service immediately. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. The passport workers here are reluctance to help you. The workers are always angry and unfriendly. A particular Asian women who "helped me" make a passport sent me away 4 times because she forgot to check the expiration date of my driver license. I have never had so much trouble with anything before! On 3 separate occasions, I have had packages delivered to parcel lockers at my apartment and the key been placed in someone else's mailbox. The first time, whoever received it was kind enough to bring it to me. The second time, someone came over very quickly to fix it (I think this was because my mom sent the package and she called...maybe they don't like college students?) This third time has been RIDICULOUS. I called on multiple occasions and spoke to a few different people. They promised to look for the package and call me about if they could find it. They never called, of course. I went in person to speak to the Post Master. When I did, he was incredibly rude, told me many people complain, and to just leave a note. Really. My package is missing and I've been calling for the past 5 days. I don't know how much good a note will do. Also, if "25 people" have complained about their mail being mishandled, MAYBE IT'S TIME TO CHANGE SOMETHING!!!! Seriously though, I have had medications and checks delivered and if those are missing then that is a huge problem. I am pretty sure it is illegal to give someone the wrong mail. They need to take their jobs seriously since they are paid well signed up for the position. read more

I just got one of their priority mail small boxes, and it took me at least 20 minutes to put together and it's not even fitting right. Somehow last time I was there I got roped in to getting 2 day shipping instead of retail ground. The lines there are usually exceedingly long, and when I was confused about the shipping location they treated me like I was stupid. But when they're shipping does work, it usually arrives fairly quickly. read more

I don't know why the USPS needs to require their employees to ask you to upgrade your purchase. I feel like I'm at the window of a fast food restaurant., and no one listens. I asked for first class for the package I was mailing. Then the questions begin: Do you want overnight? NO, I just want regular mail. Do you want insurance? NO, I just want regular mail.....and on and on. When I tried to engage the clerk, she snapped that she was required to ask. Isn't she also required to listen to the response? One time after enduring the barrage of questions, the clerk tried to get me to smile. I had just received the news that my husband had cancer. I gave up and smiled just to get her off my back. All I want to do is mail my package. If I wanted conversation, I sure wouldn't go to the post office. The people at the windows can be very rude and most impolite! read more

Got a post office box to receive my mail during 4 month home remodel project. Submitted forwarding mail request. Mail, most of it, is forwarded to p.o. box. Project completed, close p.o. box, return keys, and submit forwarding request to have mail sent to home address, where we have lived and received mail for 25 years. No mail received for two weeks. Complete another forwarding request, this time on line ($1.05 for the privilege) and pray. Still no mail. Complete ANOTHER forwarding request and submit card in person at 5th St. post office. Still no mail. No checks, no bank statements, no voter ballot, no City utility bills, no nothing. While standing outside the house with 2 friends/witnessed to the insanity, the postal carrier approaches. I ask where is my mail, I have not received any in some weeks. Postal carrier du jour says, "Oh, here's some for you." It is a magazine that is neither addressed to me, NOR IS IT EVEN MY ADDRESS. I suggest to him same, and he says, "oh, I am not your regular carrier. " BUT, he then starts to deliver a green 'VACANT' card to my house mailbox, indicating to other carriers that THE HOUSE IS VACANT AND MAIL IS NON-DELIVERABLE. WTF??????? I take the card, write a message on it and tell him to return it to the post office. Another week passes, and about another 20 calls to the local post office, a call to USPS (wait time: 25 min., 11 seconds, so I gave up and submitted complaint on-line, including my phone no.). I never got a response but was bombarded with robo-calls from prisoners for money to make collect calls! A few days later I encounter another postal carrier with, surprise, no mail for us. He tells me how much he has enjoyed watching the home improvement project, new fencing, etc. I ask him, "where is my mail? I've filled out every form THEY HAVE GIVEN IN PERSON AT THE COUNTER, AS WELL AS 2 ON LINE. Where is my mail? What do they do with it?" Still with me? Keep reading, it gets better. He responds (despite his previous comment about the home improvements) that he is not my regular carrier, and that normally mail would be SENT BACK. Surprise surprise, the next day I get a sack of mail---All overdue bills (including property tax bill); a critical affadavit, now two months overdue and useless; and a stack of notices from banks and securities indicating that items were returned to them and have now been sent to the State of California as unclaimed property. Our bank accounts are trashed, my taxes are overdue, and I am paying up the wazoo for late charges. So no point in filling out change of address or mail forwarding requests, on-line or in person. Your phone calls are futile to. These guys do whatever is easiest. Way to much trouble to deal with those nasty mail forwarding requests. Thanks A LOT Davis P.O. Happy Thanksgiving. We can't even afford the gas to visit our family. I will never, ever look at a postal employee the same way. I always stuck up for these workers. It's over. THEN, guess what? I get a voice mail. "The regular carrier had not realized that the fowarding [to the post office box] had expired Oct. 20. No, sir, actually, it expired on Sept. 9, when, IN PERSON, I closed the p.o. box and completed the (first) of several forms to have mail fwd'd from the p.o. box to the street address. The dude did not even look at any of the numerous forwarding requests. This place is nest of incompetence and sloth. It took FOUR MONTHS OF HELL TO GET MY MAIL DELIVERED--and those bills, checks are four months late. read more

Went in early today to use the machine in the lobby. You'd think they would want to support this machine since it reduces the awful burden of labor that they "endure" daily. I almost didn't go because the last time the machine was dead, and the time before that the machine did not recognize the address i was trying to send the package to. Whatever, how many times could they fuck up their machine? Well, there is another way, they can fail to unload the storage bin where you place the package after you've gone through the process of getting postage. And of course the handle is locked so you can't open the bin. So there you are with your package (fairly valuable in this case) and no place to put it. Believe me there's a few places I would have loved to stick it! So just another post office story, incompetence, apathy and yet another reason why they are broke and need more tax money to survive. I just won't go anymore, I don't deserve the grief and frustration. I'd rather pay a bit more at the UPS store where they actually know what customer service means. read more

Wow -- I'm so surprised by all the negative reviews! I have used the Davis Post Office on 5th and Poleline for many, many years, and have almost always had a significantly better experience there than at ANY other Post Office in the region, including Sacramento, West Sacramento, Berkeley, Oakland and South Lake Tahoe post offices. Staff are almost all super friendly, efficient, and the fastest I have ever experienced. Other places, you wait in line forever -- in Davis, even if the line is out the door, the wait is never longer than 20 min. max, usually more like 5-10 minutes or less. Workers there have gone out of their way to help people, from having a worker go down the line to help people get ready to be served, to a worker waiting with a cart just outside by the self-serve kiosk to take packages and envelopes and get them out EVEN SLIGHTLY AFTER THE LAST DROP TIME before a major holiday, to even helping people personally in lines at the kiosk to make it all go faster. I LOVE the Davis Post Office!! Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that the self-serve kiosk breaks down occasionally, and I've gone out there late at night to mail something using the kiosk and had to come back the next day... read more

So many people complained about the Davis USPS and now having my fair share of bad experiences, I completely agree with them. I needed to send a package to someone before she left the country for one to two years. I went in person to send the parcel and the clerk put it on the scale to determine the price and I paid. Yet the next day I got a notice saying that some postage fees were due and that they would hold the parcel until I paid. I don't have time to go to the post office this week and so I will need to send the parcel, once I get it back, expedited. This is ridiculous. I used to work as a clerk in a bookstore where we weighed parcels, print the labels and send them out. I know how it works. And this is completely the fault of the clerk who did not know how to do her job well. Next time, I will go to Sac to send out an important parcel, instead of risking sending it through the Davis post office and having to sending it again at double the expense and having it be late! Oh, and I called 15 times--I counted--in a row for someone to answer! read more
