The post office was not crowded, there was only one staff member but he moved quickly. Shipping prices for boxes have gone up significantly. I shipped 3 boxes, 1 large, 1 medium, & 1 small. The total was $85. It's a shared parking lot with a lot of other businesses so it was a challenge finding parking. There is a handicap ramp making it easily accessible for those in need, I used it for my wagon to transport larger packages. Definitely recommend. read more

I hate this post office. Every time I go the doors are locked. Even when the posted lobby hours to get your P.O. Box mail say they're open. I sell on eBay and I just need to drop it in the big bin but I can never get in there before 9:30am and they close for lunch so I would say the last 4 out of 5 times I went they were closed. I'd rather drive an extra 15 minutes to the bellflower one because they open when it says open and they have kiosks available so you don't have to worry that the guy went on a cigarette break and the lady isn't going slow because she's talking all day long. read more

Came to the post office around 10 am on wednesday. They were open but no associate was behind the counter. Pete came out after waiting several minutes. I needed stamps for some mail which he said he only had a booklet of 20 stamps, but agreed he would help me. He immediately became argumentative when I asked about a postmark (i was paying for the $.73 stamp), arguing that my mail didn't need it and continued to refuse my request. He showed an unnecessary amount of attitude and it was frustrating since his explanations were not clear. I've had this experience in the past and I have family who tell me they experience the same issues at this post office. The employees here act in a pretentious manner and often belittle the customers. It just seems so unnecessary when all they have to do is comply with the customers request. read more

The Asian lady working there was helping someone and the customer stepped out to talk on the phone and was waiting 15 min. Not trying to help someone else in the meantime the customer is done. The whole staff does a great job! I recommend this post office especially Pete and Maria. There is always long lines but that's not their fault. USPS should hire more workers since people complain about the wait here. Give them a break. Maria is very welcoming and her making conversation with people doesn't make the line move any slower. Wow, what an awful experience. I came at 12:40 not realizing this branch closes for lunch. There was no sign on the door, but the lobby was open for access to PO Boxes. I walk around trying to figure things out. Add to that, I'm looking to see if there is a scale to just weigh and do my own postage. I see a postal worker and ask her what's what. She was inexplicably rude! She was derogatory and curt, totally caught me off guard. Why 2 stars instead of one? I know most people don't review post offices and I noticed that this post office had an incredibly low rating. When someone rates a post office I feel like they let anger get the best and just give it a 1 star for one bad experience. They just don't know how to properly rate places. Well I had a couple great experiences here. Lines are always quick because the people that work there know what they're doing. The lady that helped me let me repackage boxes to make it cheaper and gave me a very concise explanation of how pricing works. Also, the building itself just looks really nice which I think is fair to note in this review. No complaints, don't let the unjust rating prevent you from going to this post office. read more

I purchased a PO Box from through this post office early last year because they provided 24 hour lobby access. Though their business hours are M-F from 9-5, their lobby was 24 hours. This past weekend, I went (Saturday evening) to check the mail and the doors were locked. I checked the second entrance which was also locked. I then looked at the hours posted on the door and the lobby hours are now the exact same as the store hours. We received no notice, no flyer in the box, no email, or no signs posted in the store about this. So now I'm left with nothing to do except reach out to someone through the USPS website regarding this. The interesting thing is the USPS website still has the old hours. read more

On my last visit yesterday, I noticed that they now have a gentleman that helps people while they're in line waiting for their turn. I had the pleasure (wait- "pleasure ") of shipping 3 packages at this post office today. I observed Post office clerk (I don't know the proper title) Maria be very kind and helpful to two customers ahead of me and behave just as kind and helpful with me. I can't praise her enough for being so kind. Any other post office (at other post offices) employee would have been rude to the one guy who couldn't figure out what type of envelope to purchase, but Maria was not only kind and patient but also tried to explain in Spanish as well. My name is Myra Sandoval from "Mira Makeup" and I have a small fan club and they send me packages and fan letters, but after one day Maria asked one of my daughters if I was that one makeup artist from Facebook that does full on makeup while my workouts. After that I stopped receiving my mail...it just suddenly went missing. I never boxes when Maria was working as for Pete I would, he would have to get them from the back and say someone must have "misplaced it" I called UPS for my boxes and never received only mail. Now I have to go to another city. It's very shocking , a lot of my fans send me packages with tracking numbers and I still get a negative I never find a key in PO Box and I have to physically get off and personally ask to check in the back please to make sure and Pete does fine one miraculously. I wish there was something can be done to restore this government funded institution because right now I don't feel safe with my packages . The snuffleupagus that works behind the counter is rude, self absorbed and entitled. I went to dispute a package that her associate Pete had incorrectly mailed (sent the a completely different address than what was stated on the label), and she proceeded to tell me it was my fault so I would have to pay another $13 to have it mailed when the mistake was on THEIR part. I just wanted to remail it after it was floating around for over a month and a half as "undeliverable as addressed". When I asked her why she couldn't just mail it again with the right address, she rudely and publicly belittled me infront of a line of people. She didn't even want to help me in the first place cause there were a lot of people in line. That's not my fucking problem lady, it's YOURS and you shouldn't make me feel bad for wanting service. I sometimes use this post office instead of the larger main one because I live right by it. Two stars because I am feeling generous. Minus one star for the limited operating hours and the fact that they close for lunch instead of just keeping it open and sending the guy and the gal on lunch at different times. Minus another star because the guy and the gal stink. They are Filipino, they have worked at this office for 100 years and it's just the two of them. This place is understaffed. There are panhandlers outside. One time I had to wait behind two people that were mass mailing - ugh! Makes me glad I do not really use the post office much. Parking is fine since this post office is located in one of Downey's UGLIEST strip malls. The only reason this place does not get a 2 star rating is because there is a really, really ridiculously nice and cool Asian lady that works here. All the other attendants are just drones. It sure is strange on how I show the PUSS....USPS locations here their own properties with photos and never get a "thank you" or a peep from them! But! On October 30, 2007 they were sure to send two "dicks" detectives out to see me on a complaint of the then June 2003 postmaster of my looking in the trash receptacles for magazines, good and unmarked postage stamps, and what not from 06/95-10/30/07 seven nights a week and the previous postmaster telling me on three separate times to stop looking in the trash! The 2003 postmaster in 2006 threatened to call the cops on me of I ever look in their trash again! I pissed him off by stating: "The a police have been called on me numerous times.They quit responding because they knew who I was and what I took and didn't take they would not respond." The postmaster called me a "smartass" that when he calls the cops they will respond. There was a postal employee watching us I guess as a witness. I looked at him and said: "Did you hear him call me a smartass and he talks rough with me and I respectful to him? This is not to be the attitude of a person in charge!" The postmaster said: "He is watching you! He is not watching me! You keep this up I will call the cops!" I then said: "Go ahead and call the cops! I'll be back later on tonight to get the magazines! I'll be at NORM's Restaurant right after this if the cops want to see me!" I went to the eatery. No cops showed up. I went back to the post office and pulled magazines out of the trash barrels! (HINT) I still pull mags out of their trash today! Not as often though! But I still find them! Even though the employees dump the trash barrels at the North Downey location many times a day as if to try to stop my illustrous magazine quest! I've been coming to this post office for years (Since 2009) ! I love the friendliness here! They always help me find a cheaper price to ship if my item weighs too much they let me know about other options. Due to cutbacks these past few years, they have been forced to close during lunch 12-1 and on Saturdays as well. Pat and Maria are mostly always there and they're the friendliest people. Maria engages her customers with some small talk and knows all the regular people coming into the post office. Pat is allergic to pets, so don't have too much pet hair on your clothing or he'll start sneezing up a storm. They're wonderful people! Don't come right before closing or the line will be out the door. Usually in the morning before 12pm it's empty, but after they open back up at 1 it gets a little crazy. So plan accordingly and don't come after 1 if you don't like the long lines. read more

Maria provided excellent customer service! My coworkers and I came in with a box of envelopes that needed to be sent out. We needed a lot of stamps and she was able to break down all the prices for us. She was kind, very helpful and knew all the information we nedded. We will definitely be coming back again. read more

On 8/20/2014 and it's another day at the Downey Post Office on Lakewood Blvd.... the dreaded short heavy weight lady... with the big hair and nasty attitude took care of me again. For all interested parties...the lovely lady's name is MARIA. I have had the pleasure of watching her from line how she interacts with clients, meddles in their business, is rude to others, bossy, and out right nasty...but primarily carries on as if she could care less about anyone else that is standing there waiting for her to be done blithering, and feels she owns the place. Perhaps being a scandalous low class individual, is the only way she can get anyone to notice her. When I approached her window, I asked her to weigh an envelope, and provide postage and a receipt, that needed to be enclosed in the envelope. I happened to be on the phone with an out of state relative, checking in on my dying mother. This beast, jumped at me scolding me at the top of her lungs, to get off the phone. I told her I was not there to entertain her chatter, to get me what I came for. Postage. I reminded her to do her job. She proceeded to rant about never wanting to take care of me again and claimed "I" was rude??? She just yelled at me to get off the phone! I have seen her in motion, how morronic she behaves. I told her I would advise her supervisor Charlie, and she literally laughed, and told the guy next to her she would never take care of me again. She then began engaging another idiot in line who felt so empowered and defended her. All those that agree, chime in, I know she has had her share of pissed off customers and complaints. I encourage everyone to call the U.S. POSTMASTER, Consumer Affairs Division, AS I WILL. WE ARE PAYING TAXPAYERS, AND DESERVE RESPECT AND SERVICE FROM THESE PEOPLE. I never thought I'd write a review about the post office but I feel as if it's only right to forewarn people of the type of treatment you can expect from this USPS location. I walked into this location today at 12:10 pm to buy 2 stamps. I walked to the line and the worker behind the counter told me that they were closing for lunch. I asked him if he could please just help me out and sell me the 2 stamps I needed. All I needed was 2 stamps!! Just 2! Did I need something weighed? No. Did I need certified mail? No. Did I need express or priority mail? No! Just 2 stamps, please. A simple yes or no would of been fine. Instead, he ignored me and began mocking me in front of the customer he was helping. How unnecessary and ill-mannered. I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed. I mean, who treats people like this and thinks it's okay? At that point, I knew that I was not going to get my stamps and walked out. I find it incredible that these types of people not only work with the public but are employed by the government. Not only is it disturbing but it's disgusting. Do yourself a favor and avoid this location, if you can. read more

I have sent mail from many different post offices and I must say that this one is my favorite. Why am I giving this post office 5 stars? It is simply the excellent service and great information I receive from Maria. Maria is such a sweet person with an amazing personality. She cares enough to give us extra information about the packages we are sending. For example, I had no idea that I could send documents using the Priority Mail without worrying about the weight. She told me that as long as the documents fit nicely into the Priority Mail envelope, it is a flat fee. Pete and Pat , the other two staff members working there with Maria , are also very friendly and helpful in answering all of my questions. Maria gives me information that is so helpful and useful to know ahead of time. She also suggests tracking important documents. The experience would be even better if the panhandlers were not there. I have encountered a very rude panhandler who looked in his 40's. From 10 ft away, he started asking for spare change in a loud voice. I do not mind helping people who at least wash car windows for spare change instead of just pure panhandling. read more

I came in on Friday to drop off a box And it was 2pm and they were closed when it says they close at 5pm. We've had issues in the past with having some of our checks that are supposed to be mailed out and never leaving this post office.. The checks were changed to a woman's name (Carmen something) and cashed at the nearest bank.. After contacting police, they told us we had to take it up with the post office and post master, not local authorities.. My mother confronted the woman at that office- I believe her name is Maria- who immediately got defensive and rude (which is not surprising because she is constantly loud/obnoxious/rude to customers from my observations in line) & told my mother there was no way to prove it was this particular post office- even though that was the post office we used- & the closest bank to them, US Bank on Brookshire, was where the checks were cashed.. coincidence? Doubt it. Now- I received a xmas card I mailed out a few weeks ago( which I directly dropped off inside that post office & I live just a few blocks away that's why I go there) returned to me for not enough postage. When I received it back the envelope was completed torn open & a sticker was placed that said (received in damaged conditioned Intials _____) no initials were noted down & they sure as hell didn't receive it in damaged or opened condition- I dropped it off myself inside the office & since there wasn't enough postage it never left that office except to come back to my house.. Usually this place is really slow because the staff at the counter talk to much. They're all very nice but when the line is out the door you need to zip it and get people in and out of there. We don't want to hear friendly chatter we need to go, especially when you close during lunch because of cutbacks. I'm just sayin'.... B U T ... lol! Somebody must've said something about this because they are just zippin' people through but they talk out loud sarcastically and say remarks like "better get going or we'll get in trouble, don't want anybody to say anything" and "if you need help now, don't forget to push my button so I can help you".. it's really the girl talking.. lol.. but hey, whatever works - it's much more efficient now so kudos to the person who whipped them into shape. read more

The folks are very helpful, and always lets me know what the options are for mailing to keep the rate down. They are very patient with all customers. Sure there's a line sometimes, but certainly shorter than other places. Closed for lunch so best to check the time before you head out. It's a convenient location with plenty of parking. read more
