Ok, so let's admit it, no one actually likes going to the post office. It's always at the bottom of my errand list because I hate the long lines, they always smell funny, and the people that work there aren't particularly pleasant. BUT obviously, the post office gods are shining on the atwater village office. I go in around 12pm on a Saturday (aka the worst time to go) and there's only one person in line in front of me, score! Not only that, she is still getting her stuff together so while she prepares her packages, she lets me go ahead of her. The guy who helped me was so nice and made small talk while he was ringing me up. I also needed a paper clip and he gave me one (it's the small things in life that make me happy). Anyways, I was in and out in about 5 minutes, which is unheard of. There were two people working at the time and they did a great job of moving people along because I've certainly seen some slow postal office workers in my day. Not that I enjoy going to the post office now but this location does make it much more palatable. read more

I used to have a PO Box at Edendale in Echo Park but hated it since they allow the lines to wind around and around .... even out the door sometimes. I finally gave up and got my PO box in Atwater. Yes, it's more expensive BUT, small non-existent lines!!! I show up at various times of day and it's always a short visit. And very, very nice clerks!!! read more

A few of the employees I love and a few... I don't know if it's a new policy or what the Manager has told them but they will not scan packages. Another post office told me that it's their obligation and said they were being lazy, whatever, all I know is that in the last month or two, I've been dropping packages off here and they have not scanned them in as accepted for up to 4 days. Figured I needed to ask to make sure a few packages were scanned so it didn't look like I was not shipping to my customers... well the dude at the counter did not want to scan. Flat out refused and the thing is... I was the only one in the store and there were only 6 to be scanned! He acted like I was crazy when I was trying to explain the delayed scanning was an issue and I needed a receipt to one show folks I had dropped the items they ordered off and two if anything went missing I'd have records. Anyways annoyed but not feeling like arguing I dropped them off. Guess what? My packages didn't get scanned in for 4 days so now I look like the a****** even though I actually dropped my stuff off. Do yourself a favor, as annoying as the parking lot is, go to the Los Feliz one or the one in Echo Park or hit up Glendale or Burbank - at least 9 times out of 10 your package will be scanned in within 1-2 days and they don't seem to have too much of a problem if you ask them to scan. read more

I strictly only use the self service Kiosk and I love that this location actually still has one since many other post offices have closed down theirs in fear of job replacement. This post office is so busy regardless that one Kiosk won't replace any teller job, too busy that parking is always an issues , even with my handicap placard. They use to have additional parking space but it was bought over to build lego block homes. Which is also a weird view when I park and someone half naked can be visibly seen because they have the right to not have to close their shades in their own home but I also have the right to not have it visible to me when I'm just trying to mail back my returns. read more

I'm a fan of my small, neighborhood post office but I've had a few troubling experiences. Before I go into that- if you go during an off-peak hour this post office is pretty quick. And, during busy times they usually have three tellers, it's not too bad. They have one automated self-service machine. During peak hours the parking lot is usually full but there is free parking on the side streets, Perlita and La Clede. So, I always feel comfortable with all of the women employees at the windows- they are quick and seem like they know what they're doing. There's a slightly older man who, at this point, if I'm mailing something important and wind up at his window I just pretend that I'm only there to buy stamps. Then I get back in line and even let people cut me so that I end up at a different window. Here's what happened: Throughout the week I was sending a lot of the same packages overseas- I needed them to arrive by Christmas. The other employees were very quick about entering the customs info and printing the postage. When I happened to end up at this man's window he began entering the address from my customs form into the computer, one slow keystroke at a time. I kept noticing he was making typos including in the zip code (I have very neat handwriting, by the way). So, I would correct him and he would change the letter or number. I'm not even sure this was necessary- the women never entered the info into the computer so maybe he was just being very by the book but it was holding up the line and, either way, it's not by the book if you enter info incorrectly. But it seemed like the women were more experienced and knew you didn't need to enter this info. But then, he printed out the postage for this package and I noticed it said 0.00. He put it on the package, threw it aside and went on to my other pieces of mail. I was nervous to second guess him but finally I got up the nerve and said, hey- why did you put $0 on that one package. He seemed confused and I pointed to which one. He picked it up, examined it and didn't really acknowledge that that could have been a big problem. He just went about re-entering the info and printed out new postage for the correct amount. The fact that I almost didn't notice that happen and that this package could have been floating around, waiting to be sent back to me, not arriving in time- really spooked me. Also, one other package I tried to overnight to New York from this post office got lost in the mail, forever, but it got lost at the LAX sort facility so it probably wasn't this office's fault. I still think it's amazing you can overnight something for only $20 and am amazed that most mail does make it to its destination but the system is not fool proof. About mail delivery- since this post office is my local distribution center- I think they must have fired someone because things have improved but up until a few months ago we were constantly getting mail for people who lived on other streets, people whose mail was correctly addressed (I met up with one through facebook to give an important letter), letters and even packages meant for a few doors down or where the address used the same numbers as ours but in a different order. It really seemed like the postman might have been dyslexic which would obviously not be good for this particular profession- but a few months ago we stopped getting all of that mixed up mail. I can only wonder how many letters addressed to us ended up at other addresses. But there has been a definite improvement so that's great. I really respect the post office and the fact that most stuff does make it. read more

I have to start out by saying, for the most part, I love all the counter associates. Many of them are always really nice and happy and are a pleasure to deal with. My top 2 post office counter worker experiences in my life. The main issue with this place is the parking, which has actually gotten worse in the last few months. I'm not sure who's idea it was to change the flow but this person should really not be making decisions like this. The new traffic pattern creates a backup that goes into the middle of the street and block oncoming traffic. Before, a few cars could much easier line up next to the curb going into the lot. Also, now we are forced upon exiting to make a right, and if you need to go to the left or even go straight, you have to go all the way around the back of the neighborhood or drive under the bridge into Glendale to a u-turn only to turn around to go back under the bridge back into Atwater. None of this was needed before, and it makes the traffic light facing the post office useless. The light changes every 2 minutes, so the traffic inside the lot would soon flow out, letting the traffic going into the lot flow in. It wasn't a perfect situation (the lot is very small) but it was a much better solution. Also, the mail carriers who deliver mail are pretty bad. I have witnessed on multiple occasions carriers THROW packages over an unlocked gate door onto the concrete driveway, just to possibly sit in the sun all day - when they could have just opened the gate and left it at the door. read more

Our mail gets delivered out of this branch. For over seven years we have been receiving mail for a previous occupant. Every time this happens we go through the appropriate process, marking the mail 'return to sender' and writing a little explanation that the people in question no longer live here. I have confronted three separate carriers to discuss the issue, and my wife has made numerous phone calls on the matter to the branch and to USPS generally. Now I am getting harassing phone calls from the previous occupant's creditors, because they see that for seven years mail gets delivered for them (the previous occupants) to our address. I finally went down to the branch to talk to the supervisor. Her attitude made it clear that she felt that she was too important to take my problem seriously, and specifically said the words 'I don't see why this is a problem', after I explained the situation. I'm guessing she was just trying to get rid of me so she could get back to her game of spider solitaire, or what ever it is USPS managers do instead of working. read more

Inside the actual post office location, the service counter is great. Nice people and good, helpful service. Mail delivery is another thing - NOT good. Sometimes we won't get delivery for several days. Seems like they get or can't keep a permanent person on this route. Really frustrating that mail delivery as well as delivery time is inconsistent. I see a couple of female mail deliverers and they have been pretty good, but again, they're not on the route regularly. Mail delivery is unreliable. I was supposed to have my dog's heart medicine delivered yesterday but when I checked the status online it read: We could not access the delivery location to deliver your package at 5:11pm on January 18, 2023..." First off, there are no hindrances to delivering - no locked gate, code entry, etc., just a simple chain link fence, and mail delivery at 5:11pm?! Absolutely NO reason this couldn't have been delivered. This is imperative medicine! No excuses USPS. Do better!!!! read more

Why would the Post office closed 15 mins on early sat., 5/4/19 :-(. The sign on the door said Saturday 6am-4:30pm.

So my package was received today by my husband and realized that it was open. He tried to talk to the mail lady and confronted her. She said that it was already open when she got it from the warehouse and she keeps on insisting that my area was not even her route. Of course that's not even the case. My husband then asked for her name . This was not the first time that we made a complaint about her. To my husband's surprise, she came back with the missing package and said "I found one of your items." Right! Tell that to the marines! It was so obvious that my package was forcedly open and items were taken. My husband went to their office and as usual he was told by the manager that "I will look into it." Btw, the first incident was she delivered my mail half open with my check inside and I got the same response, "I will look into it" by a different manager. read more

I never thought I'd be writing a review for a post office because I feel like they're all crappy and no amount of reviews will change that, but this review is for Ms. Kan specifically (I think that's how you spell it). I came in to return a pair of shoes and she gave me a free box to put them in. UNHEARD OF!!USPS will do whatever they possibly can to make money off you; so I thought that was really nice. The one star off is for the "brand" USPS alone. I feel like they go out of their way to make it difficult for customers....they don't even have clear pouches to put your return label in and stick it on the box. They do that so you'd be forced to buy tape to tape it on. LEARN FROM UPS AND GET WITH THE PROGRAM USPS!! Such a cheap business, I swear. It's the equivalent to a fast food joint charging you extra for sauce packets. read more

I have problems with our mail delivery or package delivery at least once every month. I file complaints with them all the time of the carriers being completely incompetent. My address has not changed in 10 years but these idiots seem to think my mail goes to the neighbors all the time. They have to be the dumbest people I've ever had to deal with. read more

This has been my PO for almost 20 years. I've had issues with vacation hold screw-ups, mail being left out in the rain, on the ground in the driveway...but nothing is as bad as "Sigmund," a SUPERVISOR, telling me he couldn't help me figure out why I wasn't receiving mail after putting in a change of address. He was impolite, dismissive, and 100% unhelpful. It was mind blowing, how unprofessional he was. The counter workers, on the other hand, are ALL very nice, helpful, and professional. Wendy especially, was compassionate and did everything she could to help me. I often wait longer in line, for her window to be available, because she's such a pleasure. Avoid this Sigmund guy at all costs, should you need help. read more

Manny a postal worker really showed what truly the Christmas season is about. I was at the Atwater Starbucks, placed my order and when I used my debit card it was declined. Manny was standing behind me, so he offered to pay for me. I was truly grateful that he saved me from an embarrassing moment. I later found out that my bank blocked my card because it had been compromised. I'm hoping that Manny works at your station and wanted you to know that you are blessed to have him! This is the best post office I've ever been to. My one pet peeve has to definitely be incompetent workers, and every time I come to this station, the workers here are always intelligent, efficient, helpful, and polite. Wendy (I think that's what her name is) is my favorite. I had to come in twice this week, the first time to change my address and the second time to send an international package, and she helped me like a pro. Thanks for being great guys. read more

We in Atwater Village are Blessed with the Finest Post Office I know of. The Clerks are very congenial and efficient. Seldom is there much of a wait. Possibly because of the Outstanding Manager named Judy who has the sweetest personality and knows how to 'run a Ship' She is good to her employees and very helpful and kind to the clients. I have grown to recognize a Post Office to be large in size and to have ample parking. The Rosemead, Alhambra and Union Station branches are perfect examples. And then I venture westward and quickly realize two different worlds. The size of this Atwater Village branch is nearly equal toward an annex branch. Parking here is just like anywhere in Los Angeles, really tough. I have yet set presence inside here cause of parking, but I have quickly enjoyed one bonus this facility offers. This bonus is that they offer 2 sets of hours for mail box pickups. The traditional 5pm during weekdays but also a rare 6:15am pickup. That early morning pickup is huge. Before I head to work, I can make a quick pit stop. I really wished this branch can reopen the empty lot, that they once called their parking lot. read more

My carrier never redelivers my vacation/hold mail. I check it off EVERY time AND the confirmation states it, but he never does it. It sucks bc I don't always have access to a car and I also have disabilities that get in the way of walking there. He NEVER does it. They always apologize but my carrier is just not a nice guy... I tried talking to him in a cheery manner one day and he was so startling rude, it's no wonder he doesn't deliver... he's a misanthrope who wants to spread his misery everywhere. I honestly think this is passive-aggressive behavior, as he does know who I am bc of that strange incident when I tried to engage in some friendly community conversation. I think he purposely doesn't redeliver it. Unless he's really awful and lazy and just does it to everyone. read more

OK this is not really for the post office but our mail man. Once he stopped delevering our mail because our dog barked at him threw a locked screen door. Yesterday I was home sick and heard him put the mail in our box. I went to get the mail and there is a slip that he tried to deliver a package and could not. If he had knocked on the door I would have answered it. He had it filled out before he even tried. Now I have to figure out how to get the package. read more

I have been coming to this post office for over 30 years now. I have never had any problems with the people who work here or their services. This most recent time, I was sending off my taxes, packages to Nor Cal and WA, letters to family who are preparing for deployment, and buying postage. I will admit, there isn't always a lot of parking available. However, there is metered street parking available out front. Yesterday, James helped me. I was sending off packages and wasn't sure what labels to use, or if my boxes would be difficult to send because they were an odd shape, etc. James took care of everything for me. He said that I just needed to write the recipient's address on a few labels and he took care of the rest. He was so sweet and so helpful. I had questions about passports. James was able to answer those with ease and direct me to a post office that would be able to quickly assist us in filing our applications. The variety of stamps that are available seems endless. Some are charity driven while others feature landscapes from different states, movies, fasion moguls, etc. When I mail items from this post office, they never come back. I'm convinced that they have over night elves who make sure that things get out real quickly. Bottom line, even if the line is long, rest assured that the folks at the windows are doing their best and that they will take all the time that they need to be sure that your packages and envelopes make it ASAP and with enough insurances if necessary. This is my closest post office and the three stars are for the staff, because they're pretty nice. Otherwise, I just don't understand why the post office can't be open at least one late night a week or something. It's just so inconvenient to only be able to go during business hours, and the Saturday hours are worse, not better, and there's no Sunday hours at all. If the post office wants to keep up with email, you'd think they'd find innovative ways to adapt their business model, but I guess being a federal institution protects them from needing to change. read more

I used to live in the neighborhood, and this post office was my mail's distribution center. A month before I was to move out of the state I set my mail forwarding to start on the last day I would be there. I suspiciously stopped receiving my mail immediately. When a package I'd ordered failed to show up, I called the post office, and the lady told me my carrier had been forwarding my mail because, despite the date the system said, it 'looked like I had moved.' I was assured that my package would come back to me and the carrier would stop forwarding the mail until the start date. Some of my mail came back, but some [including the package] was returned to sender. Then when I actually did move, the carrier continued to deliver mail to my old address instead of forwarding it. Luckily my landlord lived on the property and was able to collect it. I called and spoke with them multiple times to tell the carrier to please forward my mail. Each time I was told it would be taken care of. Some of it has been forwarded but some of it has not. The most recent was an important wedding invitation. The post office told me my landlord could write 'please forward' on it and that the carrier would take the letter and forward it along. Alas, it has been returned to sender. Seriously, post office. There is a date when mail forwarding starts. Before it, you don't forward. After it, you do. 2 stars instead of 1 because the employees that work there are usually friendly. read more

Back when the parking lot was 4X bigger, this post office was actually my best nearby USPS option. Since then, this place has gone straight to hell. I can 100% guarantee that there will be at least 10 people in line at this post office. Expect a wait time of at least 20 minutes to do anything at the counter. Meanwhile you'll notice at least five postal employees wandering around, doing basically nothing. And you wonder why the US Postal Service is going bankrupt? This location might as well be a case study. read more

The service - well, it depends on who you get and what kind of mood s/he's in. But I empathize with postal workers, I know what Republicans in Congress have done and are doing to them (screwing), and my mailman is terrific. But the parking? I believe we taxpayers paid to have that lot paved and lined and boxes installed - and a too-short time later we've lost it? I understand it was leased - so what happened? The PO lost the lease? More likely the owner tried to gouge, or wanted to sell and the PO couldn't afford it. People should make a point of talking to the postmaster, offering support, and seeing what we can do to get parking back. No post office that busy should have such a tiny lot. read more

Vacation Hold Mail sucks. After filling out their online hold mail form, their confirmation, even email from them that the hold mail was ending on a specific date and I was supposed to pick up the mail at this my 9039 post office (as I requested) and did that, only to find out I had no mail held. And there was no mail at home. Manager promised to call you explain what happened but never did. A day later a kind neighbor told me they had been gathering my mail and packages. Usually I have no problem here. Today I encounter a new "manager" who butted into my conversation with the worker. We were not fighting just me asking questions. Next thing I know this woman from behind the PO Worker started yelling at me that I always want things my way but today that was not going to happen. Imagine my shock I have no idea what she was taking about. Then she snatched my certified letter and refused to return it to me. My question was I need a receipt of some sort to show what day I received the letter. It turned into an all day thing. She lied to be as to the whereabouts of the Postmaster and when I told her I wanted my letter she told me NO. She said call in the morning and speak to the PM who I later found out is on vacation for 2 weeks. I went to another PO and they informed me that there is a receipt that could have been given to me but couldnt understand how come I wasnt told this at the Griffith Station. I also learned this woman had no right to keep my letter from me. I will be filing a formal complaint and investigation. The ladies on the windows look very afraid of this crazy woman. Other than this incident which I consider very serious as she took my letter and refused to give it back which I do believe is against the law, this place has always been ok. I must say I do not interact that much with the people at the window. I pick up my mail, buy stamps from time to time and once in a while have a package or overflow when I have been gone for a while. So things my way? I have no idea what that was about. Just be careful maybe she was on something? and she is a supervisior. read more
