Workers are very rude even when you walk up to the window with a smile and a please and thank you. They literally roll their eyes at kindness. This is the mother ship of LA post offices! After the closure of the huge (at least I USED to think it was huge!) hub in Long Beach on Redondo (it's now just a plain ol' post office), I was forced to seek out the next closest post office that accepted items after the usual 4:30-5:00. Since this is in lovely south central, I never bothered to come here, but apparently this is where everything goes that's south of the valley, and north of OC. Sort of like the LA USPS megahub! Times may vary so you should check on the website for the latest, but this place is pretty much where you can send stuff out and it will still make it into the system that same day. This is important to know when you ship Priority Mail items, since those shipments are often relied upon to have two day transit times. (Small secret: A lot of first class items will make it to their destinations in two days no matter where they are around the country, just don't hedge your paycheck on it.) Remember, Sunday is a transit day for USPS as well, so Priority Mail Saturday shipments will arrive on Monday. Nice! I would probably avoid this spot on April 15th though, since masses of procrastinators will all bring their tax returns here for 4/15 postmarking and cause a ten mile radius traffic jam. Every news van under the sun will be here as well, only adding to the craziness. Another heavy season is December 21-22, since this is the last chance to send things out for delivery before Christmas. The staff is hit and miss, but if you are nice to them you increase the chances of decent customer service. If you come here as a package or letter sending noob, however, I pity the hell that will be unleashed on you! It's freeway close at 110 and Florence, just watch out for the riff raff and uninsured drivers on the neighborhood streets. One time I got caught right smack in the middle of a traffic shut down and APB felony stop that brought a good 20+ LAPD cars with shotguns drawn! Barbara Charles needs to be disciplined. Under her leadership her employees do not pick up the phones because they are "short staffed" By short staffed, she means 1 person did not come in. Therefore, they do not pick up the phones all day long. This Post Office's # is 323-586-4415 Barbara Charles does not do anything regarding mistakes that her carriers make. She twists facts around in her favor. Her carrier stopped by my place and spoke to a total stranger who does not represent me. Without investigating or taking it up wither supervisors, the carrier marked the package "undeliverable as addressed" Her recommendation to me was to have the sender resend the package at their expense again. You must be kidding me! Under the direction of BARBARA CHARLES, the package was mishandled and now the sender has to pay again?! This is a validated label, accurately addressed. The package is going to a business where the doors are wide open and the carrier conveniently had it returned to sender? Barbara Charles took no action about this and frankly doesn't care. She no doubt has her union pension and is counting the days until she gets her full pension. She needs to be replaced with someone that actively manages the office, actually cares about productivity and properly trains her staff. read more

Now I may be an idiot, but thats besides the point, customer service should be priority! I went in there and did everything I could to be kind and respectful. I talked in a friendly tone, I lowered my tone, I smiled, I was friendly, etc. Ask one question and they made me feel like an idiot again lol. Apparently, I'm not the only person who has had a package received in this location and not been able to move. It is now the 18th and my package still remains here since the 10th!!! I went to the postal office in person to see wtf was going on with my package. Just so that I could be told "call the consumer affairs line," don't you think I've been doing that! They obviously don't give one single fuck about customer satisfaction and not only that but the business that sent their package lost a customer because of these idiots. In regards to other comments that say this place is huge, yes, biggest post office I've seen, but what good is it if they can't maintain the building in good shape. This has to be the worst USPS in los angeles, very small dirty lobby so expect very long lines. This place has absolutely the most horrible customer service I've ever experienced at any post office, most employees there seem very angry, misreble and are downright unhelpful. They actually make using the post office for any service to be a very difficult and daunting task. I feel very sorry for the non english speaking patrons that use this post office, since they have none or maybe one translator at this facility its very painful to watch people being talked down to and punished like children just for trying to mail a letter or package, again this place has the worst customer service. I wish i can give this crappy post office no star. Can't believe I actually went to this place instead of going to LAX post office. But I went here since it was close by. This is not my first time going here. I've been here maybe once a year for more than a decade. So I'm well aware of how big the post office looks on outside. But how small the actual customer service area is. The parking lot is huge as well. There is always parking. Intend to park far away from entrance because a lot of patrons who like to park close to entrance, don't know how to park. If you park close and go inside, don't be surprised if you come outside and can't get in your driver door because some idiot has crossed the parking space line and their door is about two inches from your driver's door. Then you got the idiots who speed in this big parking lot to get no where but either to a parking spot or a stop sign for Central exit. So be careful entering and exiting parking lot. Especially when day breaks. Yes, a walk inside will reveal a huge lobby of post office boxes. The actual customers service area is the smallest piece of crap with old dirty railings taking over much of the space. You will know once you see the line spilling out all the way to back of lobby. This post office does look like something from the 80s or older. It needs a fast renovation. It also needs a deep cleaning as well. It's very dirty. I would leave the kids at home or let an adult stay in the car with them. The employees here don't care about anything but screaming "NEXT" when their window is available. I thought that was the purpose of those old ancient incandescent light bulbs that are at the top of window. I find it funny that this post office has huge 32"+ doors at windows. They are waist low. So if you have a small flat rate box to mail, prepare to bend your back or bend your knees to open the package door just to put a small box that can't fit into the cash window. The employees are the worst. They contribute to the long lines. Every time I come here, my mailings are prepared. They want to stick their insurance labels over mine. Ask me how much insurance when it is written on the labels they discarded, etc. So even if you are prepared and have everything filled out. They will throw out your insurance labels and use their labels. Also, when you use flat rate boxes, check your total. They will frequently overcharge you for regular priority mail instead of going by flat rate boxes. This happened to me a few times. I didn't really notice it until I got out post office because the overcharge was no more than $1.20. Yes they have outside mail boxes that has the 745pm collection stamp on it. I've actually sat in car from 730pm until about 8pm, while waiting on some one and never saw anyone collect any mail from the outside mail box in parking lot. Either they already collected it before 745pm or they collect it after 8pm. I'm not sure. But I wouldn't trust the collection deadline time that's on boxes. read more

On May 16th I when to the postal office located on Central Street. I put my mail on hold for 30 days, I filled out a brown small card with the address, my brother, my moms, and my name. When I when to pick up my mail the employee couldn't find my mail so she gave me a number to call. I have been calling the number she gave me which I can only call from 7-8 A.M. Now when I was finally able to talk to an employee she told me that a male pick up my mail, how was this possible. I don't understand and don't know. Throughout the days I have been calling example I called three times before Karla who said she is a supervisor answered the phone when I told her what was going with my mail, she said you should of called before and talk to me about this. and I told her I called three times this morning before you finally answer to this she reply "I did not see the phone ringing" and she asked someone else if they saw the phone ringing. I have no contact with the person who is currently living at that address due to an open case going on.. Therefore, I don't want to have any contact with him. I when to the police station, an officer called this individual and when he answer he said he didn't have any of my mail However, there was a letter on the mail box with my name. I when to the Postal office again e to see if I could talk to a supervisor but they told me no one was available and so the employee gave me the same number I have been calling. The officer I spoke to told me I could contact a supervisor or the postal office police a filed a report because this man is refusing to give me my mail. Where is my mail I ask ? Rude service, the female was yelling at me through the phone saying we don't hold the mail longer than this. Incompetent ... Just horrible If they don't like their job they shouldn't be working there any more. I mean was the point of working there if you don't like it and if you're going to be rude towards citizens who require your services who have to go and make like wait an hour. Had a wonderful experience today at this post office location ....i went to the post office on airport blvd by the airport and they were closed ....stressed out cause i waited till the last minute ...i googled other locations and this one popped up... went there and it was a quick wonderful experience ..the line was super short ..they were quick and efficient ...what i really liked is when i walked in they had a booth set up as soon as u walked in ....they did the photos at that desk, took payments ... if u dont have cash just a few steps in the post office u can get money orders ...the ladies were so so nice ...im am so thankful we found this location now i can live again read more

This is one of the largest post offices around however the surrounding streets are very very dirty with trash and human occupation. Gage between Central Avenue and Avalon are a terrible image for a Main Post Office. I knew of a gentleman that kept that area cleaned weekly has died and the PO Management shows no concern to continue it. read more

It's the POST OFFICE ..... worst than the DMV. It's HELL This post office has the most ( incompetent ), ( irresponsible ) staff. After getting no help via phone, talking to the most impolite with bad attitude manager and saying ( give me your number I'll call you back ) and me saying to her are you sure you're going to call me back and she swear she will. I Waited giving her a chance to prove me wrong but nope 4 hours passed and she never called back. I checked online and saw my package was at this post office being held for pickup. So I stop by, tracking number in hand, showing the post office employee that my package is physically at this post office. Simple right??? Just find the package and hand it over, right?????? Nope. Once again I've come to expect ( inefficiency ), ( negligence )and ( incompetence ) when it comes to government bureaucracies. But this place takes wasting people's time to a whole new level. I came here today for work because I had to pay for a mailing permit and purchase precancelled stamps. The line moved pretty quickly, there was a very nice worker who helped move line along by asking folks what they were there for. The lady who helped me pay for my permit was very nice, but then i had to see the supervisor to buy precancelled stamps. There were 2 people in front of me, both of which were trying to figure out where they could pick up their mail. The supervisor was an older woman who pretty much hates her job. She was really rude to them. Obviously these two ladies are frustrated because they moved and haven't gotten their mail, but the supervisor seemed so annoyed at their questions. I did however appreciate her concern to help me since I had been waiting for a while. I needed to buy a roll of 5 cent stamps and she told me that the minimum I could purchase was 3,000. Now I just went online and there's actually coils of 500 so she lied. I didn't need 3,000 but felt forced to buy that many. Oh well, they're 5 cents and I can still use them but I didn't appreciate the misinformation. Also while I was there, I was verbally assaulted by another customer (obviously she had mental health issues so it wasn't a big deal), but the other worker who helped me out was very apologetic about it. In total, I had contact with 4 workers for what should have been a pretty quick and simple visit, but luckily all but the supervisor was very sweet and polite. read more

The worst PO in existence. One of my packages has been stuck at this PO since the carrier failed to deliver it. I called on a Monday and one of the employees (Her name is Jamika who btw is going to receive a complaint from me via USPSHelp) kept putting me on hold every single time I answered her question. Her tone was completely rude. She gets paid to treat customers like shit. What a useless btch. She finally said the package never arrived at the PO after a 15 min hold. A complete and blatant lie. I have never experienced such bad customer service, until today when I visited this post office. I do not understand how this place is still even up and running. The people who work there are of no help, they're lazy, unorganized, and really rude. My grandparents made an appointment for us to apply for passports..they gave us a set time and we happened to get there early. We were not helped until about half an hour after we had gotten there and there was an older lady who had an appointment before us and wasn't helped either. We waited because we figured they maybe were short on staff and it wasn't until i actually spoke to a supervisor who happened to just finish yelling at a customer that i then knew this place was a joke. We had already been waiting an hour by then and when i asked her how much longer would it be till they helped us, she said that the line was a priority not us. We had to wait..but my question is..what is the point of making an appointment if we're not going to be helped until everyone who just walked in has been helped? That doesn't make any sense to me. This supervisior's name is Karla and her manager's name is Mrs. Charles. I will not be visiting this post office ever again. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
