I paid for two-day priority shipping to have a package delivered to my mom on Mother's Day; however, it was delivered to the wrong address and was returned to Postal Pal. Even though it was finally delivered to my mom, I didn't pay $30 for delayed delivery especially for Mother's Day, so obviously I want my money back. I called USPS and waited for an hour for a service rep, only to be told that I need to submit a refund claim online. After I submitted the claim, I received an email, stating that my request was denied. So, I called customer service again and explained what happened. Higher management then reached Postal Pal, and the Postal Pal workers were just not having it. So, as you can imagine, I was close to giving up. But I went to this post office hoping that it might work this time, and I'm so glad that the guy at front cared enough to help me out. I just had to write about my experience with the Post office in Dorchester. I live in California…read moreand mailed a package to my elderly aunt in Dorchester via overnight. She missed the package, as it required a signature and the package went back to the post office and they left a note she needed to pick up the package from the post office.. She asked me to call the post office and see if I could have it scheduled for redelivery. In California personnel DO NOT answer the phone....EVER and so I had already felt I would need to tell my aunt I was unable to reach anyone. WELL......I called and...I was in total shock!! The woman answered the phone on the first ring and was pleasant!! I was in shock, given my experience with the post office over the last 10 years!...She was very helpful. She informed me, given they were about to close, someone would need to go down with their ID the next day. The next day my aunt sent her grandson for the package. The grandson was unable to get the package because he did not have the tracking number. My aunt, called me again in California 8 a.m. on a Saturday and asked me to call the post office and see if I could provide the tracking number. Again, I felt I got lucky the day before and there would be no way someone would answer that early in the morning. Lord and behold when I called, a woman AGAIN answered the phone!!! OMG. Again pleasant and she was very helpful and I was able to provide the tracking number and she facilitated my aunt receiving the package I sent her. I believe the woman said her name was Janice. She answered the call when I called the first time and she answered the phone when I called the second time!! Janice, Kudos to you.. You need to be the face of post offices around the world! Very few people want to hang around post offices like they do in libraries or cafes, but that could be an interesting business idea. Are you listening, USPS? In any event, the actual lobby is pretty sparse. It is small, simple, and has definitely seen better days. I am sure that the postal clerks see plenty of characters, because they definitely make no effort to be polite to you. Once the clerk was on a call during my entire transaction, complaining to a friend about her paycheck. I gave her three slips for mail I expected, and she returned with just two items and said that the third may have been a mistake. Nope, it was just a package, and not a certified letter, so I had to send her back to look for a package. The lines are never terribly long, because this is not a popular postal office, but they only ever have one or two clerks on the counter, so three people ahead of you can be quite time consuming. Make sure that you are fully prepared for your business, or you will be sent to the back of the line. That is pretty representative of how things go at the post office. They got the job done, but they are also just unpleasant the whole way through.
