Super annoyed that I ordered cookies for an event meant to be sent by priority mail and arrive the next day for an event and that the company chose to ship my delivery by lame usps, which never delivers anything on time. Despite the fact the the tracking information stated my order would arrive today, and I received another package from usps from amazon schedule to arrive today, it is nowhere to be found. Right now (11:30pm) it says my package is still out for delivery - which is the status that was showing since 1pm today. Calling usps on the phone is a joke - you can't reach the actual office. I tried to get someone on the phone to find out where my package was and was given an estimated 50 minute wait time as well as informed by the vm that they had the same information that I was seeing on the tracking page. Called back in the evening and they were closed. Tell me why a package being shipped to brooklyn from manhattan has to journey all the way to new jersey first? This company is incredibly inefficient unless it has to do with their cash cow (amazon) and I wish all the vendors (including amazon) would just go with fed ex or usps instead so usps would be forced to get their crap together. read more

The Asian/Indian guy who works there is a *!**#!* asshole . The line was looped twice; 2 windows and the passport window was only open. The attitude there is to do as least amount of work as possible. The manual Parcel bins are always blocked. You have Es no point because it's probably faketo get in line to hand over pre-paid, pre- printed labels. The staff seem very secure with their jobs. I needed to renew my passport with all the paperwork etc and I was so Lucky to have Carla Jefferson as my teller. I was so stressed out with making sure everything was perfect with my application, passport photo and personal check. Carla looked at me and said, "sweetheart give me everything and I'll make sure it's done properly"....Carla stapled my photo, plus my check and paper clipped my passport to the application. I felt like crying because she was so kind and helpful when I felt so overwhelmed. Carla, Thank you so much for being so gentle and helpful when I really needed some assurance that my passport renewal was done properly. Thank You I'll never forget your patience and kindness. This post office is generally over crowded and under serviced. The vast majority of the week there is a line that takes at least 15 minutes. The staff are usually indifferent or rude. The facilities are actually good. One way of avoiding the line is to use the self service machines, which work even for packages. read more

Ive lived in Chelsea since 1999 and this has been my PO station. Over the years I've had a myria of good and bad experiences with these guys and with any PO Its not about the individual station It's about the entire organization. There is a very good reason why the USPS is going bankrupt,laying-off employees and the physical condition of each PO reflects this total decline; simply it's the half-assed people that run and whom they hire to operate it. Sadly in this recession USPS employees get overpaid, lifetime pension and benefits to have bad attitude, a complete lack of respect towards the patrons and a sense of entitlement to work there. Frankly I'd love to see USPS go privately and be a "for profit" ORG like UPS and FEDEX! Do you think a private senior management would put-up with that half-assed attitude there? This is quite possibly the worst post office I've ever been to! The service is terrible and they are very condescending. I was here the other day to pick up a package, but forgot to bring my slip. The lady gave me such attitude for forgetting it! I have never seen such bad customer service!! She asked me when I received the slip and when I said "some point last week", she said "ok, well there are 7 days in a week, you know? which day?". Update to previous comment: with tracking, insurance, verbally being asserted that the package will arrive and everything is correct & good to go, I still lost $300 plus on the package not counting insurance paid and time lost- at the hands of this branch & USPS in general. I spent 3 hours each week for a month, literally, on the phone with reps trying to track this package and being redirected to every single person it was possible to be thrown off to within NY's USPS- for them to just wear you down some more and retain that they have no responsibility for an insured parcel WITH TRACKING. This post office is a living example of why the U.S. Postal Service is on its last legs. We have reasonably good postal service in our area, and I usually have shippers send stuff by USPS. That being said, any time there is a problem or a special request, you can just forget about it. The local postal station is just totally indifferent to its customers. Honestly, it's as if they all model themselves on the Newman character in Seinfeld, only without being funny. Holding mail for a holiday? Using their online service to ask for a redelivery? Don't bother. Not happening. Try telephoning them with a delivery issue. You'll be put on hold for a half hour if you're lucky. Once I was told that delivery to my building was handled by the Patchin substation. She knew perfectly well that no mail is delivered out of the substation. Apparently Christopher T and TC only send mail from Chelsea and don't get it delivered from here. I've found in 11 years with them as my post office, that the service at this postal office has gotten progressively worse. They were unable to direct international mail to a po box. They are inept at maintaining forwarding orders. To the point when I complained they said it was because the substitute carrier didn't know to forward mail. Finally, and this will sound strange, the postal person who delivered on Tuesday would only show up once a month. I was left hanging on check and netflix orders. Do NOT send valuable packages at this location. Especially before the Holiday Season when they hire seasonal workers. I sent an iPhone iTouch last November, and got delivery tracking. The package never left the post office. I bugged them about it about it multiple times, but there's not much you can do about it. (Also I sent it in a very nondescript brown package, so clearly someone opens them up to see if goodies, then reseals if not worth stealing). If you enjoy inefficient service and facilities that look like they belong in the 1950s, you've come to the right place. Not only do they open late (9:15 AM instead of 9:00), they always find a reason why your package can't go out. They could easily enhance the customer experience by simplykng offering services such as taping a package, printing, etc. for a nominal fee, but that would be too sensible. Avoid this place like the plague. It's worth having a doorman just to not have to deal with these imbeciles. read more

I must say this was the most degrading postal visit I've experienced. First of all, you have no idea where you are suppose to wait for the next teller. The roped waiting area is located far from the open teller windows, and there is no signboard notification of who the next available teller is. I had 3 packages to mail via media mail (books I sold on websites). The teller repeats several times that media mail is for media materials only, that no other things can be mailed via media mail, and notes that these packages may be opened for verification. Okay! I get it already, they're books as I've already repeated thrice! I will stick to Cooper Station for my future mailings. read more

I am clearly bored to be writing a review on a USPS station, and somewhat surprised that I am the first to do Chelsea Station at the same time. It's the closes to me so I default here. Apparently there is a lot of history here but all I got was that it opened in 1937. There always seems to be associates at the windows which keeps the line moving pretty well for the most part. So much better than the one in meatpacking on 9th Ave, I absolutely hate that one - so slow ! The staff is pretty friendly here and get you in and out quick...good government, good. read more

FedEx and UPS best marketing would be this post office. I ship envelopes with paper work on a weekly basis. Every week I got different instructions from different representatives. "You this envelope, you need bigger form, smaller form, a flat rate envelope, that is being used only internationaly but if it's papers you need priority/express, etc etc. So until you'll figure out how to provide service, I'm off to FedEx. read more

It is hard to fathom but TWICE I had a package sent from overseas and after receiving a pink slip requiring signature upon delivery, I tried to retrieve the package and low and behold, they supposedly 'lost' it. Twice. And before that, it was sent and arrived completely smashed. They are totally disorganized and the way it's set up, they can say/do whatever they want and as a customer, there is nothing you can do about it. I called the next tier up in the postal service system and was assured they would 'escalate' the case and someone would call me back in 24 hours. That was last week. Nothing. I was waiting in line here today to mail two packages that I'd already put into their very convenient flat rate shipping boxes and one of the employees asked if I'd already labeled my boxes. I said I sure had and she told me I could skip the line and do everything at the self-service computer station. I had never used this self-service station before, but it turns out it was really simple and convenient. I don't have any qualms with UPS right now, so they get four stars in my book. read more

What a horrible nightmare I'm going through with Chelsea 18th Street Post Office. What they doing to me right now and my mom is amazing. I sent overnight package on Thursday April 23rd get it the 24th today is the 27th 20/20 she has not got any yet. And the computer is telling me did they try to get into the building and that's a lie it's a 25-story building. And it's always somebody in the building in and out. Everyone at that post office even the supervisor I so mean and nasty. And unfortunately we have no choice of using them. I cannot wait until my mom moves with me cuz I'm now ever have to use them again. This place is basically the 9th circle of hell. I physically recoil every time I get one of those orange notices taped to my door saying I need to go to the Post Office to pick up a package, because I know my visit will be an exercise in endless waiting punctuated by sadistic humiliation. The workers are uniformly rude and unhelpful, seeming to take delight in your powerlessness and frustration. It absolutely *never* opens at the appointed hour of 9am. It usually takes about 15 minutes for someone to locate my package (if I am lucky) or, just as likely, tell me that the package has gone missing. Last week, the woman working there told me that if I was in such a hurry to find my package, why don't I call the local supervisor myself? At which point she (intentionally?) gave me an incorrect number (off by a single digit), such that I had to return to the Post Office and dial the number in her presence to prove it was a non-working number. At that point, she gave me the correct number, and I called the supervisor -- who took my number and promptly blew me off. As of now: no package, no response, no nothing. Even though it is close to my apartment, I pray they will close this place for forever. I'd rather retrieve my packages from the mouth of an angry alligator. read more

I would rate this 0 if I could. Last month one of the workers physically harassed and verbally assaulted me. After waiting in line for 30 minutes, I asked for a pen to fill out a form. She told me to go buy a pen down the street then come back and wait in line. I told her I wouldn't do that- that I wasn't going to spend all day here. She ended up telling me to "go f*** myself" and to get out of her face before she was going to "f*** me up", along with screaming profanity at me that I'm a b****. I wish I was joking when I say she proceeded to throw a pen at my face AND pick up the package scale that she threw at me and missed. I tried to stay calm most of the time without fighting back but I felt extremely disrespected. Once the supervisor came upstairs, they wouldn't even give me her name and didn't even file a complaint. They said they would "deal with it". She still works there so... clearly not dealt with. Absolutely insane that this location is still in service with such horrible workers. Not a single person is helpful. DO NOT waste your time here. I life right next door and will walk 10 minutes away to the other post office just to avoid this garbage hole. read more

This was the absolute worst post office experience I have ever had. Ordered from Amazon, package was delivered to an office building (after hours) so they left a delivery slip. I called the 1800# and they said it was at the post office. Went to the post office they said it was out for delivery. Went back to my office, called the 1800# again, they said with out a doubt, it's at the post office and not out for delivery. I went back to the post office, told them what the 1800 # office had stated. The guy looked at a computer, shook his head and said" sorry there's nothing I can do, it say's it's out for delivery." I asked if they could check and stressed the importance (as I was leaving state and it was a present I had to bring). he said, "Nope, it says it's out". I asked again, an older Asian lady came by and said "No, we can't look, he said it's out". I went back to my office. After 4p, it still had not been delivered. I went back, they said "Oh, it's still hasn't been delivered?" I said "no, can you please check in the back" they looked at the computer again and said "it says here it's still out for delivery". The Older Asian lady (from earlier) actually started to get an attitude with me and raised her voice telling me "it's not here! I can't go look" someone else overheard and asked what was going on, I explained, that there's confusion and a discrepancy between where the package is, and the 1800# says it's in your office" and they say it's not and wont go look" I begged the lady to go look. She went and looked - it was IN THEIR OFFICE the entire time. This is the biggest bunch of lazy workers I have ever seen in my entire life. This week I attempted to send a framed photography piece to a gallery for an art exhibition, and my interaction with the woman at "Window 10" was a **total nightmare**. Here is a breakdown of my experience: I arrived with a framed photography piece (already professionally packaged) to be sent to a gallery for a show I was supposed to be in. Because it was an expensive piece I had worked extremely hard on, I was concerned about it arriving at its destination safely. The trouble began within seconds when I asked the clerk at Window 10 if she could please stamp "FRAGILE" on the large box. She ignored me. At first thought there might possibly be a language barrier, so I asked again. She continued ignoring me but then made wicked eye contact of acknowledgement. At that point I realized she understood exactly what I was asking, but was being combative. I underlined loudly it was a framed piece going to a gallery and she finally relented. Next, I asked her how I could get it insured. She told me it was Priority Mail, so it was "already insured" and I didn't need more. I said it was worth more than $50 and I would like as much insurance as possible and how did that work. She said "you have the max". I told her I had real concerns about the box (which had been used previously) and asked if it needed a special label and/or for old info to be covered so it was in appropriate shape to be sent. She continued ignoring me, and once again, after my multiple prompts, she finally hissed at with irritation that "she would take care of the state of the box". Then she literally *threw* a small Priority Mail label at me and said "fill it out". After I had written no more than a couple words she demanded I "leave her window". I refused on the grounds that we had already started the transaction and it was expensive piece of art and I wanted to ensure it got to the gallery safely. Two days later on the day it was supposed to be arriving at the gallery, it was sent back to me SHATTERED AND DESTROYED. I do not know if the woman at the post office sabotaged my package out of anger, but I do know she is really scary and/or mentally deranged and should not be working at the post office with people sending valuable things across the country to each other. I had to spend the next 24 hours in a Hail Mary state arranging for a new professional print to be made and express sent via FedEx directly to the curator of the gallery for framing and hanging. As a result, my photo piece will now be displayed a day late, after the art exhibition has already begun (a problem not only for me, but to the curator of the show and the gallery). And this will all have been because of the nightmare I experienced at the hands of the woman working at Window 10 at the Old Chelsea Station post office. I have filed a major USPS claim to cover my destroyed piece of artwork, but, avoid this post office like the plague. I do not want this to happen to anyone else. read more

As I read through these reviews, I am reminded that the USPS is the reason why we have a backlash against government entities right now, which has led to the rise of a fascist presidential candidate. Whenever a reasonable person tries to argue that there is a role for government in our lives, the first example the opposition points to is the USPS--along the lines of, "Do you want your doctor's office to operate like the USPS?" Here's my latest experience. I put a hold on my mail way back in August, and wondered why I didn't receive a huge stack of mail when I returned, but decided it must have been a slow week. My father sent me a letter with a post date of 8/29, which was long after my vacation hold should have expired. I never received the letter. So a couple of weeks later, he resent the info Priority Mail so there would be a tracking number, and lo and behold the delivery date rolled around and nothing arrived. I put in a tracking request, and a week after the letter was supposed to arrive, I finally received it. So, yesterday I arrive at my mailbox and find a huge stack of mail, bound with rubber bands, with magazines, insurance cards, bills, and yes, the original letter from my father, all from the month of August. It is now October. I put in a call to the manager of this location, who is supposed to call me back, but really, what will it accomplish? As my anti-union husband never fails to remind me, postal workers cannot be fired. While I am sure there are many, many postal workers across the country who genuinely care about their job performance, it doesn't seem to me that the workers at this location do. The gentleman who delivered that 2-month late stack of mail wouldn't even talk to me about what happened; merely removed his headphones long enough to tell me he wasn't my regular carrier, so it wasn't his problem. One would think, if the "company" for whom you work is consistently held up as an example of how government cannot get the job done, one would try extra hard to prove that assumption wrong. Not the 10011 Post Office. I have lived in Beaumont, Tx, Madison, WI, Austin, Tx, and now NYC, and this is far and away the worst service I have ever received. Maybe my husband and people who believe as he does are right--the US government is dysfunctional, inefficient and incapable of providing even the most basic of services. If so, we are in big trouble. There are services, like medical care, that simply cannot function as a for-profit entities, as evidenced by Martin Shkreli and Mylan Pharmaceuticals, to name just the most current offenders. I am a life-long Democrat and a firm believer that there are certain things that should not be for-profit, and I have always been a huge supporter of labor unions. I argue with my husband in favor of those concepts regularly. But I am starting to run out of steam. I am begging you, Old Chelsea Post Office, please give some thought to upping your game here. I am too old to change a life-time of progressive ideals and am tired of losing arguments with my husband. If the worst-case scenario happens this November and Donald Trump is elected, it will be because of the indifference of government employees such as the workers at the Old Chelsea Post Office, and if I were one of them, I would be deeply embarrassed and ashamed. Beware, they steal your packages here! I was supposed to get a delivery yesterday and the tracking info said it was in my mailbox. Unfortunately, it wasn't. By the time I came home, they were closed. I called them in the morning and they told me to call back an hour later. When I did, I was hung up on. I had a second package coming and funnily enough, IT SAID IT WAS DELIVERED! Excited yet weary, I went downstairs to check my mailbox... nothing was inside! I called the post office and after being out on hold and then just hanging up, I called again, and the guy told me to come and get the package. When I went in, the guy at the front desk had no idea what I was talking about. He said I was talking nonsense and that no one had told me to pick a package up and I should wait for it to be re delivered. I told him it was NEVER delivered even though they claimed it to be. After 10 minutes, he finally did his job to go and look for it. He returned with only 1. He said the other package should be in tomorrow. Uh... why did you say my package was delivered but it was there the whole time? I called customer service again to speak about my first missing package from yesterday, and they hung up on me mid sentence. I'm sure they left my package here so they could steal it, luckily, I came in before they closed. I KNOW for a fact they stole my package that was supposed to be delivered yesterday. I called the company that I purchased from and will be working the rest out with them! I came here to send out my routine renewal for my passport. The line was long and this extremely kind staff member came out from behind the desk to start helping people on line. It became my turn, and she was so helpful. She looked over all my information, lent me her stapler, showed me where to send the passport to, gave me the best option of sending it and explained why. She also informed me how to follow the package and furthermore how to keep an eye on the status of the passport once received. She was really wonderful and lovely to work with.
