Does anyone work here? I have been given, and tried, the following phone numbers for this post office (from another NY post office as well as the national customer service line): 212-330-5694 212-330-5636 212-330-5667 212-330-5655 212-330-5449 212-330-5508 I have tried all of them multiple times on different days at different times of the day. No one has ever picked up. (Sometimes a number is busy though). The only time someone answered the phone was when I tried one of the "manager" numbers posted by another Yelper. The woman who answered the phone basically yelled at me, said she was in the "Store" not in front of a computer and could not help me, I shouldn't have gotten that number. When I apologized for bothering her and asked if she could direct me to the RIGHT office or person to call, she snapped that she didn't have any numbers to share and there was nothing she could do, so OKAY? Yikes. All of this is because I'm trying to track down a package that they left a missed delivery note for, claiming it needed a signature (it doesn't). I followed the instructions, scheduled a redelivery. It never showed up. The tracking site shows I requested a redelivery, and shows that the date has come and gone with no delivery. The people in other offices I have spoken to seem to think my package is at this location in their parcel division, where I'm apparently not allowed to just pick it up. Since no one seems to work at this place, I have no idea what is happening. Thanks, US Postal Service, for making a very simple process difficult, inefficient, rude, and enraging. read more

This is probably "as good as it gets" as far as post offices, until they lose your package (by placing it "Upstairs", where no one is somehow allowed to receive it). When this happens, you're SOL because 1800ASKUSPS can't do anything about it and neither can the actual humans in the office. They gave me this list of #s to call: 212 330 5518 212 330 5667 212 330 5668 212 330 5543 (for packages under 2 lbs) 212 330 5608 212 330 5694 And nobody picked up any of them. Sometimes the wait can be long but the receptionist are generally friendly and helpful. I had prepaid for a padded envelope and a worker who was answering questions for the line offered to go get one from the back since they don't usually stock them. I'm impressed that they had someone answer general questions for people on line. They also have kiosks and had an expedited line for prepaid shipping. If you don't have a special case, your trip can be quick. 4 stars because otherwise the line is usually 5-10 minute wait. read more

Worst USPS I have ever had to deal with. Too many times, PARCEL POST dept had lost my incoming packages because they either, "left it in the truck" or literally sent it back without enough notice for me to walk over and pick it up after only one day when I missed the home delivery. Once, I bought an expensive camera on eBay and I wasn't home in time to intercept the package after work. I saw on my cellphone notification email that it was signed off and delivered to someone NOT IN MY BUILDING. I don't even have a doorman as I live in a walk up. AND the name on the photo copy of the signature they emailed me said "Jason DaRulo" My name is Angelo. They "dropped it off" on the same day pop artist, Jason DERulo had his birthday. You tell me what isn't fishy about that! I called in their mistake, they said they would call me back. Next thing I know, someone rang up and dropped off my box, never received a phone call again. Did someone try to sneak away with my $4000 camera? Mind you, it came in a very discreet box. This is one of many occasions, guys. DO NOT UTILIZE USPS AS YOUR MAIN PARCEL CARRIER. At least not the Midtown East Manhattan office. This is not a joke. I'm sorry to say, some people lack the integrity to keep away from things that aren't theirs nor do they lack the capacity to take professional responsibility to properly deliver mail. This is why I am a Libertarian: Kafka's Post Office. I ordered something from an Amazon vendor. I had it sent to an Amazon locker in Midtown, near where I work. This locker's name is "Morava." (Amazon lockers have names.) I like the locker because it's like a magical gift box that opens and gives you treasures. Brought it home; the device didn't work. Bwomp bwomp. Contacted vendor. He would replace the equipment, no questions asked. He sent a replacement via US Post. This is where things went even worse: My poor package eventually found itself in the incompetent grasp of the FDR Post Office in Midtown East. Monday: There was a problem. They try delivering to Amazon Locker Morava. No dice. "Delivery of the item could not be completed because the mail receptacle was blocked." On the USPS website, I request that it be kept aside for pickup. It gives me a confirmation number. Tuesday: I go to the post office. Guy behind the window was nice enough, but had no idea what I was talking about. He looks at the confirmation number as if it were written in cuneiform. My package was nowhere. Further, the letter-carrier who tried to deliver this package was on a break day, so he had literally no information as to where my package was. Man behind the window dials a number and hands me a phone to talk to someone. (The phone accidentally hangs up at first because it is approximately 22 years old.) The guy on the phone said that the USPS should be able to deliver to an Amazon locker. Fine. I said have it delivered to the locker on Wednesday. Wednesday: I get an alert: "Delivery of the item could not be completed because the mail receptacle was blocked." What the hell. I call the FDR post office, talk to another person. This guy had no clue what an Amazon locker was. He also had no idea where my package was, or where it would be. The letter carrier didn't leave any information. I give him my tracking information, my phone number, e-mail, etc. I ask him to please put my package aside for pickup and to call me when this has happened. Crickets. Thursday: I call in the morning, talk to a woman who was nice enough on the phone, gave all the information I gave previously, was told the same information. I begged her, at this point, to please keep my package aside for delivery. She said that she would get information where my package was and would call me in an hour. Crickets. This is when I click into Psycho Ex-boyfriend Mode. I don't deal well with being on the pay no mind list. I call two hours later, ask where's the package. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't get that information. I'll contact the letter carrier and have the item put aside." Three hours later, I get a phone call from another woman, but it's like she butt dialed me. Get hung up upon three times. I call again via landline. Eventually get on the phone with a different woman who didn't know what I was talking about. (!!!) I start getting very curt. Eventually a few neurons fire. "OOOHHH yeahhh, so-and-so was trying to get in touch with you! There's a package, right?" "Yes. There's a package. I want to pick it up." "But it says Morava on it. Who's Morava?" "Morava is the Amazon locker that you couldn't deliver to." "What's an Amazon locker?" "Listen, I just want to pick up my package." "Because I don't know why we couldn't deliver this. I should call so and so an--" "I just want to pick up my package." "But your name isn't on the package." "I want to pick up my package." "Okay, we'll put it downstairs in the P.O. Boxes and you can--" "NO. I WANT TO PICK UP MY PACKAGE. PUT IT ASIDE AND I WILL COME AND PICK UP MY PACKAGE." "...Oh, okay! I'll have it put near the parcel pick-up area." "THANK YOU." *click* I walk over to the FDR post office. I go to the parcel window. I am greeted by *another* Postal Employee--one who seemed to have something shoved up his overly-tight posterior. I tell him that I am there to pick up my package. He then asks who I talked to. "I have no idea who I talked to." "Well, then you'll need to call again and have them bring the package down here." "THEY SAID THE PACKAGE WAS ALREADY DOWN HERE." "Well, you'll need to have someone bring that down here. Thank you!" Mustachioed jerk walks away. Some lady goes up to him and hands him the PACKAGE I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR FOR FOUR DAYS NOW. He just acts like nothing happened before. "Please take out your ID," Stache-Douche says curtly and bureaucraticly. I show my ID, he hands me the package. He says "You're welcome!" Go fuck yourself dude. Of course, you know what the punchline will be? I'll go to plug this into my computer and it won't work. I will laugh my ass off. P.S. This building is hideous and the modern art inside the lobby would terrify children and pets. read more

Can't believe how horrible the service was for a post office in Manhattan. Really? So close to Fifth Ave too. Only good thing is yes, it opens till 8 pm. Arrived around 7:30 pm and I encountered the rudest employee. She was obnoxious & ghetto. I needed to have my letters certified. She handed me the little slips to fill out and hurriedly said, "hurry up we are closing. You have 2 minutes! " What the he'll, there were 20 people still on line. She was not going home anytime soon! Then she told me to stick the certified slip onto the letter like her, which was all lopsided. I guess I didn't do it exactly like her so she said, "you don't follow instructions! Did I do it that way?" I really want to call her the B word but was afraid for my mail. I'll probably call in to complain. Window 14. read more

The WORST customer service EVER. The clerks are bullies. I had the "audacity " to want to look at the stamps they had. I got major attitude for that. Then when I called this one out on the attitude, the buddy clerk there joined in and they became a tag team to bully me. They can be unacceptably rude to a customer, but you "better not call them out". After that interaction I don't care what happens to the post office. Despicable. I'll never be back. Second day in a row that I went here to mail some letters. The line was excruciatingly long both days. Yesterday at least the lady who help me was kind and helpful. Three people were working in the line yesterday. Today the line was even worse because, we were told, it's a holiday. A holiday? Evidently government employees now get Chinese New Year's off as a holiday. Today, two people were working in the line. Then one. Only one person helping a very long line. Then Ray returned from her break or something, and there were once again two people waiting on customers. What a horrible attitude/worker is there in Ray. She could not have cared less to help me, and I'm the one paying her salary! When I asked her name, she told me and told me I could speak with her supervisor who was in the lobby. Clearly she wasn't concerned about my speaking with her supervisor. These are governmental employees, folks. With her attitude and couldn't-care-less demeanor, she is not the type of employee who would make it in a real business setting. How terrible that after waiting an hour in line, I had to be waited on by her. UPDATE - I gave Ray two exact same letters, same size, etc. - both sent in the exact same way. One was received by the NY Distribution Center a full day later than the other. What terrible service. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I went here today to drop off some packages because I had to be in the area anyway. But I wish I went somewhere else. Both of my packages had prepaid labels - one was made on December 13th and the other on the 14th (because those are the dates that customers purchased items from me) When I went to aisle 2, I was met with a man that immediately told me he couldn't scan the label that was dated December 13th because it's already been two days. Why did it matter that it was two days? I couldn't get an answer. He said the one for December 14th could be scanned, and yet..he didn't do that. He told me to go to aisle 23 and I THOUGHT I would be able to speak to someone who would actually be able to do their job but guess what? Nobody there. It was an empty shelf with packages waiting to be collected. I noticed that people willingly left their packages there so I thought that would be fine to do too. I am nervous that my customers will not get their packages because this shelf is not monitored by anyone, so it is so easy for someone to go up and steal packages. Like all other negative comments here (which makes up about 90% of the reviews here) go somewhere else. I appreciate this post office. First, with electronic communication so prolific, it's probably hard to keep a ton of smaller branches around. So it makes sense that there would be fewer Post Office locations, and the ones we have would be big ones! Second, you can literally do anything here. Downstairs there is a 24 hour self service office, and also a gift shop. Upstairs is a completely full line Post Office, with amazing hours (8am to 8pm Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm Sat). Third, I work in the building next door so it's super convenient. There is usually a line, and I can't say it moves quickly. But sometimes I come in and get helped pretty quickly. The postal workers here are not what I would call friendly, but they are informative and give you the info you need/help you with whatever you're trying to do. read more

This is the absolutely worst post office in all New York. My first terrible experience was in trying to renew my passport on time for a trip. The first man who I dealt with had me go out several copies of documents I actually did not need so that blew one day. The second was a woman who made me wait for at least an hour while she chatted with the other tellers. When my turn finally came she took her time, while continuing to gossip. She then sent off the papers without her signature and the US Passport office said that they should pay for the overnight shipping. Yeah right! I got the passport but not in time for my trip. Luckily I have dual citizenship and two passports. Then the worst incidence is going on now. I have to send 3 cases of books to a customer and they make you send something priority mail in order to do a pick up within two hours of the order. I scheduled it on December 13 and today is the 18th and they still haven't picked them up. Worse of all on the tracking number they say that it is already in transit. The fact that I've given a post office three stars says something (I think). It's a good sign! This particular location is a main branch. Meaning, it's enormous for starters. Then, pretty much anything you need to get done you can do here. Passports, no worries - they do that all the time! Multiple self-service machines abound - always helpful. Then, as I was there just last week in the midst of the holiday shipping-rush, I discovered do-it-yourself mailing labels for packages. Um, hell-O - this is brilliant! And do you know how I discovered this? An employee walked up and down the (LONG) line asking what I was there for and literally went over everything step-by-step. LOVED that. I was so happy with that service. And you know what? I was out in under 10 minutes on the Friday before Christmas. If she didn't walk around and I waited on that line, I'd have been there easily another 30 minutes. Crazy. read more

Such a lovely architectural space, kept clean by friendly facilities, safe, but truly wasted on poor postal staffing. I was lucky to have been able to handle all my business at the self-serve stations. But, at 6pm, there were only two tellers to handle a three-row line. Someone called out...break times not managed properly....or manager not scheduling properly? This was prime time after lunch hours, and there were at two other personnel walking about, not doing much of anything. Then a woman who was trying to be nice was denied service at specialty windows. She tried to kindly plead with both of the walkabout employees, one who just said, "Sorry. Closed." The other just said, "Nope." Both walked away from her. This started a cascade from people in the line. Eventually enough of them spoke up to encourage one employee to get the Certified Mail stamp and get those customers on their way....though the employee did it with much groaning, teeth sucking, and other vocal attitudes. I get it (my Pop and Mum worked in the Post Office for YEARS when I was a kid...and I even worked in the canteen of one as a teen). It's not glamorous work. But it's a government position, and you're given the duty to serve the people. Not every day is gonna be easy. But with that happening across the board? Makes me think it's not an isolated thing. Fortunately, they have many more self-serve stations than most post offices, when you combine the street and main concourse levels. So I could recommend them if you have something easy you can handle on your own. But, from what I've seen? I'll go elsewhere for counter services. read more

Lordy Lordy! It's unfortunate that this is the closest PO to my job. The service is incredibly slow during lunch time even though they have plenty of tellers working the counter. Seeing that line getting longer and longer doesn't give them any pep in their step. I'll go back because I don't have much of a choice during the week but I try to use those self-service machines as much as possible. I used to have a P.O. Box here years back. A great post office that is spacious, open until 8 p.m. during the week and fairly convenient to the subway if you remember to get out at the 53rd & 3rd Avenue exit. The staff I dealt with to set up that P.O. Box was far more competent than the one at my local post office; I'd prefer this one were my local office since they also have a separate section for the automated postal machines (and actually HAVE them, unlike my local post office). read more

What a waste of taxpayers' money! It's a shame to even take out of town visitors there to mail some stuff. All the workers are moody as hell and some workers are far worse and have attitude issues -- even including one of the supervisors. One of the supervisors told me it's her lunch break and she cannot help me when I asked her a simple question. She even put a finger in front of my face and said, "No, no, no, I cannot answer your question. It's my lunch and then I'm getting the F out of here." What the heck? I can't believe my taxes are going to these worthless workers' salaries. If you are not happy there, then go get a different job instead of working at the post office and being miserable!! So I work really close to here and it is great that it is convenient. What is not great is the service, but it's the post office, what would I expect? The Pros: 24 hour kiosks for mailing a small to med package. If it fits in the bin, you can mail it without talking to a soul - which I love because 90% of the postal workers at this place are mean and/or useless. The post office is open until 8PM. If you need to stand in line, DON'T GO during lunch - the line is looong and aggravating. Same at about 5PM. If you can go off hours, do. It's worth your sanity. The cons: Useless window attendants. For instance, I was mailing a package overseas and I asked if I could pay the customs fees and mark it as a gift so my friend would not have to pay customs fees (it was ACTUALLY a gift, I wasn't trying to pull a fast one). She said "sure" pointed a boxes for me to check and I paid almost $60 USD to mail a teddy bear, some childrens' clothes, and three sweaters. I was OK until my friend called me and said she had to pay customs because it was not marked correctly. WTH? Whatever... Hope this helps!! :) read more

So five stars on Yelp has the subtitle "As good as it gets!" And for USPS, this place is. This place is temporarily on my route a couple times a week so using them is more of convenience than the one assigned to my zip code in Brooklyn. I'm so used to long lines, small locations, 30 minute waits and people behind foggy display windows with looks that could kill. When I walked into this place, I was thrown off a bit. I've never seen a post office with a second floor. I even did the whole touristy side to side staring thing as I ascended the escalator. There was no lines and quite a few windows open. I was helped by a woman who actually was...NICE! Oh USPS, it's finally christmas for me! I was in and out and that's how it should be. I only hope this is all the time and not a fluke. I know I sound really happy about this place but this is what I dealt with before at my usual one: lost packages, flat out ignored no matter who is helping you or how loud you shout to get their attention, condescending tone when they speak english, angry shouting when the english is broken, When I ship from Brooklyn, I NEVER use my own zip code office because of this and cross every joint in my body that my packages get to me. To some of the people who gave this place 1-3 stars....come to any post office in Brooklyn and then see if this place still sucks. I actually had one of the staff tell me they were doing me a favor. Strange, I always thought they were paid to work, didn't realize that they were volunteers who came to work as a favor to the paying customers. What a disgrace. Very rarely have the desire to boycott a business but I will do my utmost to avoid the US Postal Service and this location in particular. Their professionalism and customer service have gone to the gutter. I won't spend a dime there or walk through their doors anymore. I attempted to cash a money order in 3 different locations and 2 didn't have enough money in their register while this branch had, but the system to verify the document wasn't working. When I attempted to get feedback on where else I could go, their rudeness and disdain was unbelievable. They couldn't tell me, didn't have the capacity to check with other branches and sneered at me for asking. read more

I used to mail priority boxes here every week. If you go in the morning the line is almost nonexistent. Most of the postal clerks are friendly. Use the machines downstairs if you show up around noon. When I needed flat rate boxes, I would stand at an empty window and someone passing by would get it for me. read more

I've had a PO box at this location for almost 10 years now. The people are genuinely friendly, but if you have to get in line for something special upstairs you will wait a very, very, very long time. I had to ship a birthday present to Spain and waited an hour and 15 minutes, and the line wasn't even that long, so AVOID THAT LINE AT ALL COSTS! As for the PO box, it's very convenient for people like me who move a lot. And it's wonderful for getting packages. However, they're supposed to put a yellow slip in your box telling you to come upstairs and get your package (via a special window that never has a line), but many times I've had a package and never knew because they failed to give me the slip! read more

This is hands down the best post office I've ever visited. There were many counters open, each with its own number screen that flashes and notifies when it's ready for the next customer. The clerk was friendly and efficient. And because of all of the above, there was hardly a line! I was in and out in less than 5 minutes, which in post-office-time is like a second. As they would say about Mikey "HE LIKES IT - HE LIKES IT!!". Yup.. I like this post office. I've been working in east midtown for the past 7 years and prefer not to use any other post office in the metropolitan area. The place itself is huge. It is divided into three sections 1) the main level has a store where you can purchase different varieties of boxes and shipping tools. 2) To the right and front of the store is the self service section where you can weigh your envelopes and purchase the correct stamp. The only thing is that this service is a credit card/atm service, no cash. 3) Upper level - where you have your customer service/passport area/PO Boxes. Warning - when mailing a package during lunch time hours, the lines will go beyond the velvet rope, which wraps around 2 times. But they usually have staff that makes the lines go fast. Their staff alone are the most friendliest people that I've seen in the post office. Their hours are pretty extensive. I believe that they open from like 7am to 7pm M-F but not too certain about that. read more

What a joke our postal service has become. 9:40am on a Tuesday morning at one of the busiest locations in the country. 2 counters open and 25 people on line. It is like this every day of the week and wastes hard working people's time. Seriously ridiculous!!!! Also, how about having posted examples of how to properly apply certified mail stickers to your mail. Tellers always have attitudes when you ask for help. This is not an obvious process and a poster board on the proper procedures would save lots of time all around. Lastly, who ever heard post office without stamps! When asked for a roll of stamps teller explain there were none left. Then disappeared for 5 minutes and came back with a few sheets of Scooby Doo Stamps. My favorite thing about this post office is that it is open a little later than most post offices. Its open until 8pm! For those who work late, you might be able to make it to this post office. There are 2 floors, the first floor has machines where you can buy stamps, drop off envelopes. For other services, you can go to the second floor. Its pretty big an there is usually a line, so going at weird times helps. read more

Earlier this week I went to the post office to send two items certified return receipt. I had not done this in years but obtained forms from my firm's mailroom. I had completed them for the most part. When I was called I walked up and said "hello, how are you?" . The response to that was some kind of grunt "what do you need?" I tried to use humor and quite frankly my ignorance to get some help but this woman was rude and quite frankly intimidated me. She then scolds I can't help you do that cause you have to do that I was trying to figure out which slip to adhere to which envelope. This women was not only rude but quite frankly unhelpful. Does she have any clue she is in a customer service position. A smile goes along way as does being nice and helpful. Perhaps a little training would help her remember she is in her job to serve in a professional and courteous manner. If she were in any of the corporations I have been at she would be fired as that behavior would not be tolerated. read more

I rarely utilize USPS, maybe once or twice a year. I was surprised to learn that the post office does not supply tape to close their own Priority Mail boxes - they want you to buy the tape - WHAT?! The only reason this location gets two stars is that there was an employee on the floor who was very helpful and pointed me out to one of their self-sealing priority Mail boxes. read more

This post office is closest to my work, so in the midst of wedding planning I've visited several times over the past 10 months from Save the Dates, packages to "Ask my bridesmaids," and both domestic and international mailings. It's nice there is a gift shop on the ground floor to inquire about and buy stamps. Usually, this is faster than going to the main line upstairs. This lady is friendly, but doesn't always have every denomination. The postage increased Jan 26th, and I was waiting for the 2oz 70 cent domestic stamp to be available, so I wouldn't have to put multiple stamps on the invites. March 1st rolls around and... still no 70 cent stamps in the whole post office, and she has no idea when they will come in. A bit frustrating, so I went to the Penn Station post office to get them. PS, there's a long line there too. I've been here to use the automated machines many times during lunch hour, and YES there will be a long wait for the manned windows. There is usually someone to help direct people to the appropriate line whether the machines, passport window, or postal windows. Helpful when I had trouble with a machine one day! Today, I mailed the invitations and had to go upstairs to request hand cancellation. I decidedly went at 2:45pm, and there was no line with at least 5 windows working. I think part was good luck and part was obviously going at an off peak time. The employee was friendly and explained to me that even though they would do me the favor of hand-cancelling, the envelopes would still likely go through sorting machines, which cannot be avoided depending on destination. I really appreciated her explanation, and she did not complain about having 98 envelopes to hand stamp! Now, I just have to wait and trust that the envelopes will make it to their destinations, but I believe if anything gets lost it will be in transit rather than the fault of employees at this post office. read more

Love this post office. So many services all in one place. But be prepared to spend an hour if you need to interact with a human. Usually 15-20 people in line with only 2 employees. read more
