I went in with an envelope that needed Certified Mail and return receipt. The woman at the far end said I needed to go over to the table and fill out the two forms. I had mailed several of these envelopes at other Oakland post offices this month and I've never been asked to fill the forms out myself. There was no one else in the room other than my husband and me, so it wasn't like they were busy. But okay, fine, I went over the table she indicated and didn't know which forms I was supposed to choose, and I didn't have my glasses, so I picked out two and filled them in. Went back to the window, and she said sharply, "NO! the xyz form!" I didn't know what on earth she meant, so I said, "fine, I'll just go somewhere else." Realizing that I didn't have time to drive to another post office, I went back inside. By now, there was a line. My husband went up to her window and asked which forms I needed, and she barked at him, too. Then she started yelling at me, and I yelled back, and it was a totally awful scene, I've never lost my temper in public in my life, but here I was, this crazy 78-YO lady shouting across the room in the post office. I am seldom able to access my PO Box during the clearly posted access times as this location is rarely opened during the posted hours of operation. It's currently 9:20am on Saturday, June 24th and the posted hours are 7am for PO Box access and 9am for full service, yet they have yet to open at 9:20am!!! I paid a significant fee increase for my box this year and this warrants a refund of fees!! read more

I love this post office. The sistah that works in the far corner is so incredibly helpful and proficient at her job. She is so on it, that I usually leave feeling better than I walked in because she makes the experience so pleasant and clear. If it weren't for parking I would use this post office exclusively. It's so sad that the quality of service is nonexistent. And yes, I was born and raised in Oakland, still work in and frequent Oakland, so I can attest to this. This is besides the point that I'm trying to make...it was just hilarious what the previous Yelper had to say about people not being from Oakland. You don't have to be to write a review on a business/establishment. Anyway, the workers are just as bad as the DMV - they are so unhappy with their jobs and ungrateful. No greeting, no acknowledgment. No nonsense. Just drop your stuff off and be on about your business. I've been to other post offices where the clerks are actually pleasant and helpful. I asked for a tracking number and receipt and she said, "it's on the box" and continued her conversation with her coworker as if I didn't exist. You know I am surprised no one has reviewed this place as the post office here has been around for eons!Sometimes the lines here can be very long so it is better to come here when they first open at 9 am on weekdays if possible so I try not to come here at peak hours say mid afternoon, the first of the month or on Saturdays. But a relative left her slippers at our house on Christmas Day and cannot wait til next month so here I am in a long line after the New Year holiday to mail it priority mail. Great neighborhood post office. You feel like you are back in the 80s going walking through the door. The ambiance is bare bones and nothing impressive so it begs a for makeover. Nonetheless, the workers help customers get their packages mailed out and provide stamps. The stamp collection is limited given that it is a smaller postal location. There are PO boxes and package drop off available for all your mailing needs. read more

This post office is always such a good experience. Very different from most POs I've visited where employees are disgruntled and understandably so with lines out the door and at least one angry customer yelling to hurry it up. This is my favorite Post Office sub-station. I even moved away from this part of town and I still come back here, just to go here and visit my girls that work the window. There is a parking lot in the back you can access by driving down Fruitvale Ave and parking behind the bank on the right side. There are P.O. A tiny storefront of a post office, I actually drove by twice while looking for the address, it's that non traditional of a post office! The lobby is nearly non-existent, but it's still possible to queue up inside if you wind your way to the left of the doorway into where the P.O. Boxes are located in the small corridor. Up front, there are two windows, where two post office employees sit behind thick sheets of plastic. Between the two employee windows, there is a package carousel where customers can drop off pre-addressed items. Off to the right side of the double doors there is a little, high table where you can address your envelopes or fill out certificated mail requests. But beware! There is only ONE pen on that table, so you either have to wait your turn, or bring your own writing utensil. (Better yet, pre-address or pre-fill your forms at home : ) The employees are the usual level of politeness that you would expect from employees at the post office, but if you greet them and smile, you might get a better response ; ) read more

I really want to give this place a one star but I'll add one more star to it just based off the other people that work there because I've never had a problem with them and they are helpful and professional. I come in to this location all the time with my service animal because I am half death I cannot hear on my left side he always has his tags on anywhere I take him out. So today Maribel decides to come up to me (on my left side where I'm deaf) she was talking to me I didn't really hear her until my dog got my attention so I asked her what was she saying and she told me to pick up my service dog and I have never in my life had to pick up my service dog anywhere I went so then I ask her why he's on a leash and very rudely and unprofessionally she told me it doesn't matter pick him up and at that point I said no he's on a fucking leash I don't need to pick him up I have his paperwork and he has his tags on the way you are treating me is illegal and she literally said she did not care so not only did I report her to her job in the US government but I'm also leaving a yelp review because if this is the people that work in the office and treat people with disabilities rude and unprofessional I want nothing to do with Maribel ever again and I will be taking this to court read more

Yes, I am reviewing my post office. Why? I am super fed up with the attitude of one of the workers in the front. There are 2 women typically working - the one on the right (white, long brown hair, glasses) is super nice, helpful, and always is chatty and friendly. The other woman has a MAJOR chip on her shoulder. She is rude for no reason and I have seen her turn her back on customers she does not want to wait on, say she is busy and wait until the other woman helps them. I have watched her be so rude to so many people I actually dread coming here anytime I have to. Horrible experience! I payed extra to have my mail sent. A few days later I check my tracking number to track my delivery, and it shows invalid. I go down to post office so they can check my receipt and they end up figuring out that they mistakenly gave me another customers receipt. They could not find my receipt, tracking order, or mail. The clerk who ringed me up laughed when I was asked to calm down. I was very frustrated because they could not tell me where my very important urgent mail that I sent to Immigration Offices was located. Ok folks. It is a post office. It is in a sometimes sketchy area of Oakland. Other days its just fine around here. Small, slightly awkward layout, unless you know where the parking lot is. Hint: look on fruitvale for ice cream. Don't pass the Safeway. I've seen good and bad days for customers and staff. It's all about how you interact. Have your poop in a group, know exactly what (or what information) you need and don't act like these hard working women are your body servants and we will all get out of here in a timely manner. I'm spoiled to Colorado, where you have PO box access 24/7 in most offices, and recycling bins. This location has to be open to get your mail. No recycling bins, although since 99 percent of mail is recyclable, they might be dumping it in recycling at the end of the day. read more

I come here several times a year. The line is long and I don't mind waiting but some of the newer staffs are always rude, like I'm inconveniencing them. I always get my receipt tossed at me and they Immediately walk away to talk to co workers, while leaving me there to wonder if my transaction is complete. It's been here for years. I think the cashiers have been either straight forward or very friendly most of the time. They're very clear at explaining things when you don't understand. They get very busy with at most 2-3 cashier staff at all times, so I think it's quite good that I haven't had bad customer service in years. read more

This is one of the smaller post office branches in Oakland, but it's also one of the best in terms of customer service and wait time. The workers here are always helpful and always quick to help you ship your package for the cheapest possible price, and if you need priority packaging;they provide it for free. I've been here during the busiest times of the day and have never had to wait for more than 5 min; they are very quick and very precise with their packages. The only reason why I am reviewing a post office is because the people that work here are thee rudest, meanest individuals I have ever came across. I have never ever had a postive experience here. I just don't get it, if you hate your job so much why don't you quit? Good place, I've sent many packages through here all without issue. The girls working the front are all friendly and helpful. Whenever I have anything to mail this is where I go. Great place & service is usually pretty quick. FYI: Park across the street along the short chain linked fence. Its free to park there, if you park in front of the post office you have to pay for parking and the meter maids walk around on foot to try to catch people. I am so disappointed to have to give what I thought might have been a local neighborhood post office, a bad rating! I used to go through the Diamond District practically everyday on my route to and from work - evening classes. I frequently thought to myself. Oh, how convenient a little post office, where I can buy a stamp or too and get something mailed quick and right away. So, as busy as this little place always is, with usually no more than one or two postal workers at the window. One particular day, no different than any other day. I left my house in a somewhat pleasant mood despite the surrounding environmental factors that seem to keep getting in the way. I made a green smoothie to take with me on the road too. When I got 2 the post office the line wasn't that bad. However, as I usually do. When ever I go and buy stamps I always buy a blend of whatever they have. So my purchase always takes a little longer. I guess it would be more convenient if I make a list before I get to the post office, but who really has time for that. I don't? Anyways, I recall going to one sales person and there is this girl there she had gotten really nasty and rude with me on several occasions and on one day I actually stood up to her and I made a comment about her UNNECESSARY sassiness. I mean she is a government employee and she makes almost $20 bucks and hour. What the he-- is she complaining about. She should be happy that she has a job 2 go 2 everyday. Anyways after I chewed her out one day, I told myself. I would never purchase stamps from her again. Its been along time since this incident happened, but as I recall it was a on a Saturday because I remember I was the last person to leave and they locked the doors. I am pretty sure it was on a Saturday. So anyhow, I think on the day I made the green juice and I was trying to mail something. I went to one line, the employee got frustrated because someone had offered to buy stamps for me because I did not want 2 buy stamps from the overweight light skinned black girl, with short hair. I mean she is extremely rude. Maybe she should find another profession because her attitude stinks! I deserve better treatment. So, as I recall I tried to go to the next line and there was a new face. A younger looking darker skinned black girl. I know she was new because I have never seen her there before. I mean she did not look like a regular. I think before I had gotten to her line. Some of my juice had accidentally spilled on the floor. I just assumed they have a custodian. Anyhow when I tried to buy stamps from her she also had a bad attitude and she started to scratch in her hair and then she wanted to make an exchange of currency - to - product with me!!! Oh he-- NO!!! That is extremely unsanitary and well you know the rest. Then she goes on to say something about, ma'am we have decided not to service you anymore, and the list goes on. I said, for what why not. Then she said you spilled juice all over the floor. I tried to tell her it was an accident and she insisted we have you on camera. I said and.... It was an accident. I did not mean to spill any of my delicious, scrumptious, mouth watery beverage on their contaminated floor. As far as I am concerned my drink is too good for a place like that anyhow. So a few words were exchanged and I asked for the supervisors contact telephone number. I have been extremely busy since then. That was back in 2017, somewhere around November or October. But, because I have been busy and no time for petty drama! Although, it has been an extreme inconvenience for myself because whenever I need a stamp and need to mail something. Just because of their "rudeness", I had 2 resort and go all out of my way 2 a different location. And trust me, this is not the first location where the postal service has been less than lousy! After reading a few reviews, I am super glad that I am not the only one that thinks this way about the Diamond District post office. Wow, complete catastrophe.Those women should be reported. $20 an hour is a lot of money. Its surely more than $10 to 12 bucks an hour. They should all be re-assigned to new locations and a new crew come in or be fired? I mean prices have went up! But the customer service has fell below the poverty line! No, this is a complete outcry!!!? We must be the ones 2 make a change. How long will we continue 2 accept and tolerate this type of behavior. So, what I have decided 2 do, I just tackled this matter. I am in the process of reaching out to their manager and have the discussion that should of happened of 6 months ago! Ahhh, and they thought I forgot. A month ago, I went to mail 120 letters, all to the same address (to legislators in the state capitol, Sacramento). Since they were all going to the same place, I thought it might be helpful to keep them all together, so I had them in a plastic bag, all tidily packed up. I put it on the counter and explained the situation. The women behind the counter told me they were all going to be dumped into the same big bin, so I should take them out of the bag--I guess she just wanted a big pile on the counter, sliding every which way. It didn't seem useful or efficient. So I asked her if she could just take the bag and empty it into one of the many empty bins right behind her. She said, "We don't take plastic bags." So I said, "No problem; you can give me the bag back." "We can't do that." "Do what?" "Handle plastic bags." "Then please put the bin up here and I will dump them into it." That she managed to do. However, she could tell I was somewhat annoyed, and somehow I had a feeling that something might "go wrong." Therefore, having now discovered that none of my letters (over $100 in copying and mailing expense, and rather timely) ever arrived at their destinations, I have to wonder... But tomorrow I will call the branch to see if I can find out where my letters are. Wish me luck. BTW, the few other times I have gone into this branch, the service was just about the same quality--but the stakes weren't as high. I think once one employee was friendly and helpful. Sharon read more
