If you actually need to use the post office rather than drop something in the box, don't go here. I arrived at 4:20pm on a Friday to a line of people who said the worker was on break until 4:30. How are you going to allow breaks right before closing time with one employee?? This location is insane, the parking is awful, and the locals are completely aloof so expect people on bikes and skateboard not paying attention while you're trying to navigate an already difficult area to drive. The one employee was very nice but it's unacceptable to have one transaction take 10-15 minutes with no additional support. I love this location so much and Charlene is such an essential part of the PDR neighborhood. She goes out of her way to get to know you, make you feel welcome and to answer any questions you may have. My mail has always made it out on time and to the right place. People need to give her a break in these reviews - she's literally the only person there and I think she does excellent considering that fact. I've also seen review or two talking about not being there at posted times ... I'm a regular at the office, coming multiple times a week, and she's always been there in operational hours, even just before or just after. read more

The worker, Charlene I think, does not abide by regular office hours. She leaves whenever she feels like it, takes her lunch at any time during the day and comes back at any point during the day. Coming here during office business hours, its 50-50% chance that she will be here. Corporate needs to really come look at this place and it's employee. I've lived in many different states and cities, but have never seen a post office quite like this one. If you dare to bring these issues to Charlene's attention, she will literally yell at you, become rude and combative. Does she own this office? I just cannot believe how awful this place is. It says up above that it's "Open Now". It's not. This is the 3rd time I've gone down this PO to find it randomly closed. At just before 2pm, the sign on the CLOSED door says it won't open again till 3:20pm. There are people inside though. This PO is the WORST I have ever encountered. USPS really needs to look into this location and possibly shut it down. The employees here are the laziest, rudest people we have encountered in a long time. Today (4/3/2020) at 11:45am we went to send out a return package but wanted a receipt due to the value. There was a makeshift sign out front saying the employee was on "break" and would return at 11:45, at 11:48 am an older man strolled up and asked my husband (who was holding the large box) if that's all he needed and to just leave it there in the hall. What? So he tells him we need a receipt & he replies "you don't need a god damn receipt, it will be scanned and you can check it that way" are you f'n KIDDING ME! I can't believe this USPS employee would speak to a customer in that manner. We in no way were leaving our package with this piece of sh*#. Last year, we went to mail a package here and it was the same nonsense with a makeshift sign saying they were gone. It seems this is very common. This post office is in PDR, a very small town and it feels like it's stuck in the past. There is a sole employee - so yes if she needs to use the restroom, take a coffee break or have lunch then yes, the PO is closed. I do get that it's Inconvenient when one is in a time crunch but how else is ONE person supposed to prop up this branch? The sole employee is a lady who may come across as grumpy but if you engage in small talk you will find that she is actually very nice and funny in her dry way. My expectations for a Post Office are pretty low, but this has to be one of the absolute worst Post Offices in the United States of America. "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" my ass. I just tried to mail out a birthday card for my dad at 3:55PM on a (non-holiday) Monday and they were closed. You would think that even if you were going to be closed at that time on a weekday, you would at least have access to a mailbox to drop off a letter but of course not! The lobby area with the mailbox was closed as well and there was no explanation of why. God forbid I had a PO box and really needed to check my mail because that sure wasn't happening. Whenever I have gone there to not just drop something off (and they were by some miracle actually open because they are also closed from 1:30-2:30 every day), the people working there are some of the most unpleasant people I have ever encountered. Everything also runs at a beyond snail's pace so there is almost always a big line which again, is the case with most post offices and I somewhat understand, but if you're going to be slow the least you can do is not be egregiously unfriendly. Just the worst. I don't think I've ever had a successful visit to this location. Every time I've been here I had to drive to another post office to complete my task. The only reason I've made the mistake of frequenting this building, is because my mail carrier does not consistently deliver my packages and will leave them here. I'm typing this review while sitting in front of the closed office during regular business hours. The postmaster has posted a hand drawn sign that says he'll return in 15 minutes. Not going to lie, after reading these horrific reviews I was nervous to go there to pick up my certified mail that got returned. Upon arriving there were two people in line and an older gentleman helping them out. I thought this as the "Steve" person that everyone in the reviews was talking about, and was bracing myself for a terrible experience. I didn't catch his name, but if this man was Steve, the reviews couldn't be more wrong. He was super kind, efficient, patient and I was out of there in 3 minutes. Years later and this is still the worst post office in Los Angeles. My package was dropped off at this location yesterday. Tracking says my package is at this location. Myself and 3 other customers were locked out during business hours and denied access to this location. If you ever get a package delivered here, have it redirected to a different facility. The worker will pretend to look for your package and then give you a fake number to call that never answers. This happens regularly at this location and I am shocked that the laziness and lockouts are still happening. Instead of Yelp, file a complaint directly with the Inspector General at uspsoig dot gov/file-online-complaint if you want this disrespectful behavior to stop. Giving a one star on Yelp does nothing to help our community get better service at this location. This man needs to retire, it is abundantly clear he has no desire to be of assistance to the good people of Playa del Rey. read more

I went to 2 other post office and they said I need to go to the playa del rey postal because that's where I live. When I arrived the Asian lady with glasses already had an attitude. When I told her my issues she already told me to go to another post office because "she don't know" I tried to explain it to her. She scanned my code and her computer shows my old address I told her I don't live there. She said "that's what we have that's where it goes it can't change." Excuse me what?! I am all about supporting the United States Postal Service and try to get my stamps and all of my mailing needs through the USPS. However, this USPS post office is really testing my support. I have, on more than one occasion, been tempted to visit the nearby Postal Services shop due to the inconsistent hours and off the wall customer service at the Playa del Rey USPS Post Office. On my first visit I arrived at approximately 4:05pm to be greeted by a handwritten sign on the door indicating the lunch break was from 4:00-4:15pm. Talk about a late lunch... Unbelievable. I thought this was a one time thing but looking through the pictures posted on Yelp, I question how can a person's lunch be so inconsistent every day?! I decided to ride my bike back the same day around 4:30pm at which point the line was much longer and I had my first experience with the customer service (or lack thereof). The gentleman working at this post office is so quirky it is off-putting. He slams his keyboard every chance he gets and had the weirdest tendencies. That's fine, I'm sure the USPS is an equal opportunity employer and safeguarded by the coveted government job protections. On my second/third visit, I was the only person in the post office and this employee told me to wait (which happened to be a good 3-4 minutes) while he tried to "figure something out on his computer." There were no customers in the place, no packages in front of him, his computer was fully functioning, I have no idea what he was trying to figure out but telling a customer to wait is mindblowing. When I asked the employee which stamps the post office had that day he showed me three different versions - animals, pumpkins, and flags. I don't understand where all the other options were hidden....... I am giving this post office two stars because I am immensely grateful of the services the USPS provide. I've had a Yelp account since 2010 and, to date, I've left only 17 reviews (12 of which I did in a particularly judgy feverish haze). That I would take the time to write my 18th review about a Post Office that I don't even frequent, should tell you something about how terrible this place is. My girlfriend and I went in to pick up a package that was supposed to be waiting for her (it's not, it's currently "somewhere" with no hope in sight...but that's a whole other issue). My issue is with the customer service and the location. I assume just as a matter of course that we'll never actually get the package, that's a given, but you could at least screw me over politely instead of also making me feel terrible. The lone employee, Steve, doesn't want to be there. How do I know this? Because he says so, loudly, and in a variety of unprofessional ways. The most memorable of which during my 30 minutes there being: "This job is trying to turn me into an alcoholic," said without a smile. What's more, the place is in absolute shambles. There are packages piled up all over the place in the cramped customer area (none of them my girlfriend's, likely filled with expired food and unsent letters to Santa). There are no pens anywhere for the various shipping forms (most likely because they don't want you to waste their ink on forms they'll never use anyway). There's clearly no pride of ownership here. Lastly (and this is the detail that really drives the one-star rating home), he never answers the phone. This is not hyperbole. My girlfriend called the office 4 times before we visited, and the phone rang and rang (there's no answering machine). We assumed at the time that they just must be really busy. Not true. When we walked in, the phone, unsurprisingly, was ringing. And ringing. And ringing. Right next to Steve. Ringing. And ringing as he complained about how the Venice office keeps losing his packages. And ringing. He never answered it. He never even glanced at it. This is customer service? And the kicker, when he couldn't find the package, or any information about where it might be, was that Steve suggested that we call him later if it's still not delivered! My experience here was extremely fristrating, I was trying to find a package and asked the man to look in the back because I had been given this address to go to and three times all he said was no this isn't your post office it won't be here. Not sure what the harm is to just look, but anyways, he told me this wasn't where the package is and sent me to a different office to see if that's where my package was. I asked if he was able to call and check to see if it was there before I went to the wrong place, he said no I don't do that. I try really hard to be nice to postal workers cause I get their job isn't the most fun but with attitudes like this and service like this it's really hard to not get upset. read more

I made an appointment at this post office three weeks ago to have my passport renewed. When I went in for the appointment they informed me that there was no Pat postmaster on site due to Covid and that there's a glitch on their website, then they pointed me to their main offices which was 45 minutes away in South Central. When I got there they informed me that I needed to go to the location on aviation Boulevard as I was now considered a walk in. Finally when I got to the third location 2 1/2 hours later I learned that the address they gave me was wrong. Nobody knows what they're talking about read more

I stopped in for the first time to this post office today, and the lady behind the counter was lovely. She let me take my bike right inside the first door, so I didn't have to leave it outside (no bike rack to be seen), and she was super helpful, kind, and got me out of there really quickly. She also had quite a line of other people in there she was helping at the same time. I have zero complaints! It's a small post office and has limited hours, amenities because usually only one person there. They are nice when you go in and work with what they have. I was at this Playa del Rey post office in early March to mail several gifts/packages to family and got the opportunity to be tortured by a postal clerk (can't call her a worker) named Charlene. She is a bitter old lady who seems to hate the customers as much as she hates her job. I asked her what my options were regarding pricing and timing to get these packages to their destination and you would have thought I was asking her to personally deliver them for me. She huffed and puffed and rolled her eyes at me. I only had 3 packages and yes, the each were different sizes and weights. These were not large nor heavy boxes and they were sealed up, addressed properly so there was no issue with the parcels. I waited outside today with several other customers trying to access our PO Boxes. The new reduced hours are Mon-Friday until 6PM to gain access to your PO Box, yet the door was locked at 5PM. The lady working inside ignored the fact that we were all outside trying to get her attention. We all run small businesses and are just trying to make it amidst the pandemic. We were waiting on checks and now will not be able to access our mailboxes until Monday. The sign on the window clearly states that the PO Box access hours last until 6PM. This is terrible. While I am at I might as well just say that I always get terrible service at this location - and I will be moving my PO elsewhere at the end of the month. read more

Steve gets a bad rap. The place is understaffed and he always has to work solo. There is a high volume of business and the poor guy never truly gets a real break. I've personally witnessed people being relentlessly rude to him over things that are out of his control. I've read reviews saying that he's the one that's rude, but honestly, it's hard to have a smile on your face when people treat you like shit. USPS lost a very important package of mine - something my mom sent me with things that were once owned by my late grandmother. So, you can tell how much this has affected me.
