They should shut down that branch and investigate the mail handlers. I filed a complaint last Monday about some very important mail that never arrived. They called from that branch saying the address was misspelled. I have proof from them, with the notification of that letter and the date it was supposed to arrive. They still haven't resolved the situation. I've sent emails and haven't received a response. They made the mistake and want the customer to be responsible. During those days, I even checked the trash and found mail from other neighbors. The mail handler is putting the letters in the wrong mailbox. read more

Whoever delivers the mail keeps leaving the mailbox open when it is raining. I have had so many letters ruined thanks to them. The last straw, however, was when I applied for a passport and had to send in my naturalization certificate. Lo and behold, when I received it back; it was left in the rain and it is now ruined. We have complained about this issue many times and it has not been resolved and I highly doubt it ever will. All of my issues are with the person delivering the mail. 1. I can't believe I'm reviewing the freaking POST OFFICE on yelp. 2. I highly recommend visiting anywhere else on the planet to obtain a passport. The employees here are not only confused about the services they offer (one day I'm told I need to apply for a new passport, the next I am berated for not knowing I'm supposed to be renewing), but they emotionally abuse you during the process of trying to figure out what in the world is going on! I'll spare myself the pain of reliving Jen's abrasive attitude and the photo guy justifying everyone being a dick because "it's Monday morning!" - just know that if you spend more than 40 minutes in this building you are likely to not only pay for services you don't actually need, but you will probably be in tears for various reasons. read more

The single star is because the actual post office have always been pleasant and helpful. However, the postmaster and mail carriers are atrocious. I've lived in my building for eight years now and have had near-constant issues with mail. We often receive mail not addressed to us (and not even on our street). Our mail is often crushed and jammed into the mailbox in a way that destroys it. A previous mail carrier used to slam the mailbox doors over and over, swearing in frustration when they wouldn't close on the first try. Our biggest issue, though, is that our mail carrier constantly leaves the door to our condo building unlocked behind him. This would be unprofessional and a safety concern anywhere, but especially in our high-traffic area of our tourist town. After online complaint forms, phone calls and walk-in visits to the post office (where I spoke with a clerk, a supervisor, and then the postmaster on separate occasions) the mail carrier finally began locking the door behind him. That lasted a month. Last week the mail carrier lost the key to our building. Instead of informing the residents of the building he decided the best course of action was to simply stop delivering our mail. When I called the postmaster she said she'd speak with the carrier and find out what was going on and call me back. Instead of calling me back she simply had the carrier call me himself from his cell phone and say, "My boss told me to call you." Professional, right? The carrier denied losing our key and lied about locking the door behind him the day it was lost. (He did not realize I was working from home that day and witnessed him leave without locking the door behind him.) He alternated between insisting that he locked the door that day, trying to blame FedEx or UPS, and half-heartedly apologizing, saying, "If I did do it I'm sorry." I called the postmaster who, upon hearing it was me calling back, said, "I hear you were screaming and swearing at my carrier." I had done neither. She refused to admit the carrier had lost our key while in the next breath saying that they needed a new key from us. Then she told me that if I wanted my mail I could pick up my mail at the post office before 5:00. The postmaster is unprofessional and a complete moron. read more

I moved to Salem in February. big mistake, I have received perhaps 25% at most of the mail that has been sent to me since then. My health insurance was canceled, dental insurance, internet, gas, electric bills have never been delivered. For instance, I called my car insurance company on May 20th, as I knew the renewal policy was due in early June, they said they had sent it out on May 5th, I did not receive it. I asked them to send a copy, never received that! I prefer paper billing, if I switch to electronic billing , it's one less customer for the USPS, which must be massively failing if it cant deliver a letter from 1 city to another in-state. I have a magazine subscription- did not receive the July/August2019 issue, the September/October2019 issue is out, and I have not received that. The May/June issue was never delivered until I called the publisher and they re-sent it, amazingly, I did get that! So obviously my address is known, it must be the letter carriers; and the postal manager is quite smug with his answers, likely covering up someone's ineptitude. He answered some important questions for me and I know he has a very busy schedule but the fact someone took the time to help an individual is very important these days. After 4+ years of consistently inconsistent service, I'm about at the end of my patience with the Salem USPS. I'm constantly having to walk up the street to another house on another block to see if they have my mail (they usually do) and when we can't locate packages that are marked as delivered, calls placed to the downtown office are often left unresolved. It's frustrating and totally unprofessional. You walk the same route, day in, day out. How hard is it to deliver the mail to the correct addresses? That said, the counter staff downtown (with the exception of that one new dude who's TOTALLY shitty and always smells like an ashtray) are exceptional. Friendly & knowledgeable. read more

My mail has many times been returned to sender even after I spoke to the carrier (Stacy). At first I thought I'm not being targeted. So I simply asked what was the problem for the first incident. She had said there was no safe place to leave it. (Abox that fits in my mailbox). It then went down hill from there. She then said one comes in with one last name not both. I have no control of that I told her but it still had my apartment #. I'm the only Amarilys in the building. She then added both last names to the Mail box & said it wouldn't be an issue anymore. I had multiple times requested my college transcript. Where it had my apartment # & my full name. At times I get mail in with one last name or both even though I have updated absolutely everything, electric bill, credit card bills, cable bills etc the minute I moved in 2yAgo. So I spoke to every company to deliver it with my full name. So I don't continue to have the issue. They did & I still wasn't getting my Mail because she saids there's no secure area to leave it or it was that both last name weren't on. After we had spoken like it worked the first time she said it but not the 3rd, 4th or 5th time. I would understand packages but mail really. I had my credit cards statements & everything else including my nursing school transcripts returned to sender & because of that I missed a deadline for one of the programs. She did leave my electric bill that only obtained one of my last name. I guess that was a plus. I have a pretty long last name. (as one of the customer representative said) sometimes it came in with both or just one but again my apartment # is on it & I shouldn't have this issue is what both supervisors at this location said to me. They said they'll talk to her but actions speaks louder then words. She continues not to leave anything Only when she wants to. I literally have to watch out for her Mail truck because she'll give me the Mail directly. If I stand there & wait but when I'm not there she won't leave them. I'm confused she knows I live there she knows the last name issue etc. Thank god, I got into other nursing programs but this is not okay. I then started to deliver my mail to a different city. Where I got the mail perfectly fine. I spoke to a few people at this location & they all said she's amazing, she's been doing this for years but the way she speaks to me in her condescending voice/attitude tells me otherwise. She might be amazingly good with anyone else but she's been super rude and unreliable to me. I'm scared to have important documents sent here anymore because of it. I've seen when she's delivered many other packages & mykids/mine where marked as undeliverable because she said there was no safe area but was it safe for everyone else to receive there's. All my mail has always obtain my apartment #. I don't know what's worse the people at the location vouching for her actions or her eye rolls when I ask her what's the issue this time with my Mail. Today, I didn't receive a package because again there wasn't a safe place to leave the package. Although, there's cameras now. For months now. They said well she probably didn't deliver it because that location is used to packages being stolen. Which was accurate 9 month ago when they didn't have cameras. I then asked what is the reason for my Mail not being delivered then & sent back to sender if it shouldn't be an issue since it fits in aMail box. I've been living here for 2years & I've never had this terrible service before moving here.I'm more dissatisfied with the USPS vouching for her actions. I went to the main building office and she has been reported to the wrong office. Half of the people in the building either don't have important things delivered or time to report her. The manager from the building requested anyone who has a issue to go directly to USPS & I have and I'm probably the first to do so because I have things to accomplish & she can't keep getting away with it. It's sad/frustrating & I've been getting nothing but attitude from their friendly carrier that they keep vouching 4. Mykids/my Mail delivered fine elsewhere, it's outrageous. read more

Been having lots of issues with mail being delivered in the last 6 months. I have not received a wedding invitation (I was in the wedding), my car registration from the DMV, and a card from my grandmother. Not sure what other important mail I may be missing. My current trust in mail being delivered successfully is very low which stinks and is inconvenient. read more

The workers are friendly enough. The building is beautiful. But if Jeneth is working, I hope you cleared your schedule... you're gonna be there a while. The absolute slowest worker I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with - anywhere! It's not an exaggeration to say she moves in slow-motion even as an enormous line of customers is forming. Had a package sent from a company that went Fed ex smart post which means the Post Office is the final delivery. Called days before it was to be delivered as it was in transit. A woman postal worker told me to track it and call when it reached Salem Post Office. It arrived in Salem I called, another Postal worker informed me that I should have gone to USPS.com to have it intercepted. Well, I was misinformed 2 days ago. Hopefully when I get home from my appointment today, by some miracle it might still be here in the lobby of my building. I tend to doubt it. This package is too big to fit in lock boxes. If left out, most are stolen by other residents. Sad, but true. Question ?
