I usually try and avoid going to the post office because of the long lines, especially around the Christmas holiday season (cheat hint - there is a post office in the downtown Harmons that is never busy). But the last time I visited this location there was no line and it was rather a pleasant experience. There is one staff member who I regularly works the counter and he is so helpful and professional that it makes up for any long lines I experience. This location also has a passport office. The parking lot is a pay lot but the first 30 minutes are free. Make sure you don't loose your ticket as the parking lot attendees can be a bit nasty about that. read more

The postman that delivered mail on Saturday June 14th 2025 was a total lifesaver. I do believe he was being timed so he's probably in training. FedEx delivered a box downstairs by the mailboxes. They didn't bring it to my 4th floor apartment. I don't know if they have to or not. Either way the mailman saw me struggling with the big box approximately 35 lb. He stopped what he was doing and brought it to my fourth floor apartment, he was given permission to do this. I wish I could have tipped him but I don't carry cash so I hope this helps him in some way. He couldn't have done it without the lady's permission that was timing him. (a) He needed to submit a passport application and this is one of the few places you can do it in Salt Lake County. (b) He works near to downtown. (c) He had other business that required him to be downtown and this was close by. (d) 3.14159265359 (e) None of the above. If you answered (a) you would be correct. Give yourself 4 stars. The one remaining one goes to this particular Post Office for its amazing passport application service (this is by no means meant to represent the postal system in general). Why a one star rating, especially when I swore it would take a lot to make me resort to giving anywhere one these days? Well passport service hours are 9am to 4:30pm (well so they said). However, I get there and there's a sign indicating they are closed for lunch for an hour and a half. There is a guy there, and he just finished with someone else, it's ten minutes before the time it says on the sign, so I ask if he can process me quickly. He says no, he has to take his lunch exactly when it says. So I indicate it's 10 minutes until then and he says he needs time to actually get to lunch and that it takes more than 10 minutes to process an application (since when?) and to come back in an hour and a half! Me (and the people who came in just behind) were all just dumfounded. Crappy service with attitude to boot - nice work! The workers are slow, and I wouldn't even mind if they also didn't have an attitude most of the time. This review is a month in the making.... I moved earlier last month and filled out the proper forms for a change of address. I also notified all of my mail senders (bills, magazines, etc.) of my change of address so there is minimal mail actually going through the "forwarding" process. Here we are a month later and still NO MAIL! I received my welcome packet in the white envelope along with the yellow sheet of paper that asked me to put my name on it so the mailman knows who lives there. --- all done. I have yet to receive a single piece of mail in that box. Not even junk mail is in there! no papa johns coupons or smiths flyers. NOTHING. Guess what is in there though... the little yellow sheet that has my name one it. It hasn't budged. You ask: Have you called the post office? YES! On two different occasions. (See picture of call log from today.) I called 2 weeks ago and was assured that that day someone would go check on my box and remove the sheet. - not done. Also I halted my mail and specifically said that I would pick it up in branch because I have no clue where it's being delivered. My fiance goes to pick up our mail today to find out that it's not there. I try to call to get to the bottom of the mystery. They NEVER pick up their phone. I called for almost an hour straight which each time the phone ringing to go to an operator and then eventually being disconnected. So unprofessional. I know it's the holiday season but this has nothing to do with my Christmas gifts. I'm getting NO MAIL! Finally I speak to someone who takes no responsibility for the mail being sent out even though it shouldn't have and no responsibility for the fact that no one has taken the yellow sheet out of my mailbox. The only suggestion he gives me is to put my name on some ducktape and stick it in the box. Really? Where is all my mail going?!?!? It's impossible to speak to anyone in charge because they keep making you think that they are solving the problem and when you eventually get put on hold... it's a click. If I didn't have to go through this post office I wouldn't. My experiences is Murray were much better before moving to downtown. The service here is so slow. They don't accept appointments for passports which really sucks - if you can go somewhere that takes appointments, I highly suggest that you do that. My first time coming here for a passport took 2.25 hours. My second time took a little over an hour. It seems like they always have a line and there's only one guy working who takes a lunch from 11:30-1. They don't have a thing to take a ticket to get in line so it's all honesty on who goes next. Also, you can park in the parking lot and they will validate your pass. The parking lot is a mess, but at least it's free. The guy was pretty nice and helpful though which keeps me from only giving them one star. read more

I called this post office and this awful Supervisor named Ashley answers the phone and is totally rude and unhelpful. She won't help anyone find their lost packages. I have problems receiving my mail and packages on a daily basis. You can do all sorts of things here. You can send mail. You can receive mail. You can get a passport. Okay, time to get serious here. This is the Downtown Station Post Office, so be prepared to wait in line with the crazies and the homeless. The wait is very unpredictable, and so it can take anywhere from no time to 30+ minutes. Typically though you don't have to wait an extremely long time. The average is probably 5-10 minutes. Those long waits come at holidays. If all you are doing is picking something up (you got a pinkish, orangish card in your mail) you can go to the box window from about 7-10. read more

We have had a long ongoing issue with our carrier named Stormy. Our carrier refuses to deliver mail to our home, because of a dog issue where our dog apparently chased her. We were told to move our mailbox, that is by the front door, to the street. We did this, and was hoping our problems were over. But nope. Stormy (carrier) then said that our mailbox is on a street that is to slanted. Once her supervisor researched it, he decided that the hill was not on to much of a grade and was not to steap. Stormy then said that our mailbox is on the wrong side of the driveway, and her safety was at stake, if we were to back out of our driveway and hit her. I went around the neighborhood, and proved that most of our neighborhood mailboxes are just like ours. So the supervisor, after an investigation, said she was wrong, and had to deliver mail. But she still wouldn't deliver. The post office then submitted some paperwork/application to a higher authority, and put it before a committee if Stormy could continue her abuse and not deliver mail to us. After about 5 months, the committee came back and said mail had to resume. So Stormy (carrier) was essentially forced to deliver mail to us. (keep in mind this has gone on over 1.5 years. So as of about one week, we should have been getting our mail. Well today, I go to the mailbox, and we have a notice inside, that she isn't delivering mail to us, and we have 10 days to pick it up at the post office or it will be returned to sender. Her notice says that it's not delivered because garbage cans are in the way. So Stormy would deliver our notice, into our mailbox, but she wouldn't put in actual mail. Not sure how she can get away with this, for this long. What is going on here is harassment. We have been lax in dealing with Stormy, because we thought that it would somehow iron it's way out, and things would be good. But this is not so, Stormy has been harassing us and taking advantage of the owners of the house (my mom & dad), and we think part of it is because she saw a good target who would not really fight back, and perhaps it's elderly abuse, because my parents are in the elderly stage of life. I don't know why she has so much power, and I don't know the real answers as to why she does not like us. I feel like this is abusive, and it's why I am taking this time to post/write to the internet what has happened. We have been patient for 1.5 years!!!!! NOT Months, but YEARS. I want to say that the manager at the post office is Jamal, and I cannot throw him under the bus. He has been more than understanding and respectful to us. This has got to end!!! I cannot begin to express the level of disfunction at the downtown post office in SLC. The Entire USPS is a model of inefficiency that consistently operates at losses in the millions annually, and the downtown SLC office is a perfect example of why. A simple attempt to overnight a small package has proven too much for them as my package never arrived. There was no explanation as to why, no refund for the money paid for delivery, and no one seems to have possession of the package. Attempts to reconcile by phone are impossible, as no one will answer... ever. A trip to the downtown location will get you redirected to another phone number that no one will answer. And once you speak with a supervisor they will simply tell you that they did their job. You can't even leave a complaint on their Web site as that function does not work. All in all, do yourself a favor and use a private company to deliver your packages. Or personally hand deliver it yourself, because that will be easier than dealing with the USPS. And remember this, when they lose another billion dollars next fiscal year, we will have our tax dollars bail them out so the remarkable service can continue. There is one gal that works in there who is always happy and friendly (highly unusual for a govt job)...the others aren't always too smiley or friendly but they at least do their jobs proficiently. It's annoying to have to go through the parking gate, but always a fairly quick in and out. Staff is alright, packages are well handled. South Salt Post Office makes this one look like the Taj Mahal. Never had a bad experience here, but it does seem to take longer for packages to reach the regional facility when dropped off here than other locations. read more

I had a bad and frankly bizarre experience there that shows a very poor understanding of customer service on the part of the staff there. I went there to buy an express priority envelope. I had all the labels ready, all they needed to do is to make sure that everything is OK, seal the envelope and take if from me. When I get to the "window" the person told me that the envelopes are to the side (10 feet away?). There was a shelf behind her with them too, but I guess it was too much for her reach there. I went there to grab one and I went came back (again, from 10 feet away!) she wouldn't let me drop off the envelope without standing in line again (there were some 3-4 people behind me)!!! read more

My landlords dog lunged and barked at the postman while on a leash. The post office, well the supervisor Jeanette, shut down the mail for the whole 6-plex we live in. No one was notified of the decision, not even the owner of the dog. Two weeks later the owner finally got ahold of the supervisor, who let him know that a box needed to be placed at the front of the building. Feeling upset that the landlord had done nothing wrong and that I have had to make multiple trips to the post office to get my mail, I went to talk to the supervisor, Jeanette. She came out in a sweatshirt and baggy jeans and just stared at me. She looked like she had just come off her 15th smoke break and it was only 10:00 AM. She didn't offer any pleasantries that a supervisor should like"How can I help you?" Nothing. Just stared. I pleaded my case that my landlord, who is the sweetest older man btw, did nothing wrong and the post man should have done more to fix the problem, i.e...find out the dogs name, bringing dog treats, approaching the entrance of the house from a different direction,etc, etc but she just kept repeating the same lines she's probably said a thousand times before. She did nothing to assuage my obvious frustration(as a supervisor should) and just kept arguing with me. She did offer me a lesson on how the post office isn't paid for by tax dollars, so that was nice. Insert eye roll. I left shaking and angry. The decision to pull our mail was very punitive and unreasonable. There was no attempt to problem solve the situation in a less drastic way by the post man or the supervisor. It was also very careless to not notify anyone of the decision and to punish the rest of the complex because the postal worker is a big whiny baby. Avoid going here if you can!
