I was at the AAA across the street and needed to ship something that I had in my car before the end of the day. Luckily they were all very fast and even though it was 5 pm they were still helping people. Awesome job. First time there, great impression. On a side note, I like the retro look. I always like post offices that look like they have never changed.

Suppose to open at 830. Standing here on a Monday at 8:37 door still locked. Great job usps.

Evil Homer: Marge honey-fräulein, I'm home Marge: You're not my husband. Evil Homer: Ja, please forgive my unexplained two-week absence. To make it up to you, we will go out to dinner at a sensibly priced restaurant, then have a night of efficient German sex. Marge: Well, I sure don't feel like cooking.... -- any simpsons lover will appreciate that quote when i say that my recent trip to the clairemont branch of the USPS reminded me of this scene. I might not have witnessed efficient german sex, but i did indeed witness an efficient american post office - which is a rarity! Super impressed with how organized this place is. I came bright and early this Sat. morning upon opening (9 am) and there was a massive group of people already waiting for it to open. If this had been the UTC Costa Verde post office (which in my experiences is one of the worst in SD) it probably would have taken 30-40 mins to get through. Nope, not here. With the assistance of an employee who helps people get they shish together while shuffling through the line, along with the employees behind the counter that 'get er done,' it moved quickly and seamlessly. I like that this post office has plenty of parking and offers the cool drive through drop off boxes. Yep, locate the box & shove it in....easy, quick, and satisfying - while cutting out all the BS. Efficient german sex might have something there! hahaha.... :-]~

Still don't answer the phone as of 8/8. Another piece of lost mail. Worst post service ever.

After being directed to the supervisor, we asked whether we could just be seen in place of those customers who were then seen early. The supervisor said they'd have to ask the employees at passport window. She then told us we should leave, but that she couldn't explicitly tell us NOT to wait. We chose to wait. The employee at the window asked after some time (maybe 15-20mins) "So what did she say?" It seems there was zero communication between them. They just arbitrarily decide whether they feel like being helpful or not. I understand they're short staffed, but logically it just made no sense why our appointments weren't just flip flopped if customers were seen during our "missed" appointment window. Anyway, I went up to the window again and asked if we could be seen if we reduced our appointment to just the two babies since that's so much harder to schedule with my husband being at work during all hours appointments are available. And to my surprise: I was told I could be seen in either 10min, or I'd be next- after that appointment. Great!! Still, None of it makes any sense. And only one employee made any effort at all to be helpful. It wasn't the supervisor.

There were 3-4 of them including the manager that was floating. There was one worker that I noticed was doing such an amazing job. She was smiling and happy and tried to be as helpful as possible to everyone. I actually stood in line praying that I would get her, because the other workers appeared to be having a bad day - work edition. The heavens smiled upon me because when I heard that magic word: "NEXT", I was greeted by Athena and she was terrific. She helped me with my package and the letters I wanted to mail. She cracked jokes with me and it was a terrific experience. The lines on either side of me sounded like the customers were being booked into the local prison or something. I hope that Athena brightened someone else's day like she did mine.

I wish I could say this was an isolated bad day, but this experience is a fine example of the…read morefailing USPS and typical of this location. Unwelcoming staff, chronic inefficiency, and frequent technical failures are the norm here. I'm sharing this particular visit because it illustrates perfectly what you can expect every time you walk through that door. I came in with the simplest possible transaction: a prepaid label, already purchased, with a QR code to scan and print. A 30 second transaction, tops. The self-service kiosk had a long line, so I made the decision to use the full-service counter instead. I waited 20 minutes. When I finally reached the teller, I showed her my QR code and was told, without a hint of apology or friendliness, that she couldn't scan QR codes and I needed to go use the self-service kiosk. The same kiosk. The one with the line. Back I went for another 20 minutes, after which my actual transaction took all of 30 seconds. So, 40 minutes, one needlessly rude employee, and a full-service desk that is apparently incapable of performing a function that an unmanned machine handles effortlessly. Par for the course here. If you have any flexibility in how you ship, do yourself a favor: go to UPS or FedEx. Save yourself the frustration and avoid this location in particular. The USPS as a whole is struggling, but this branch has truly distinguished itself in all the wrong ways. You've been warned.
