I came here to open a PO Box. The lady behind the counter took my two forms of ID and disappeared into a back room for a solid twenty minutes. Apparently remembering about me, she came running back out. She mumbled some things about keys and key deposits. She seemed thoroughly confused about how many keys to give me and how many to keep. Finally, she gave me one key but said "don't use yet! bad. don't use key without receipt." (sic), handing me off to her coworker, who began one-finger-pecking at a keyboard. Eventually, after a display of geriatric computer illiteracy straight out of Central Casting, he charged my card and gave me a receipt. Neither of the two people on duty could form a coherent English sentence. On a more serious note: the USPS should not act as an employer of last resort for the otherwise unemployable. The public's trust in public institutions is at a nadir right now. This is dangerous for America's future. The only Federal employees most Americans interact with face to face are those at their local post office. This particular one is not helping. read more

This is probably the worst post office in SF. Postal Workers here are terribly rude, short staffed, queues are horribly long always as a result, this office is uncomfortable, dirty, & has no Air Conditioning. Soon the tellers at this Post Office are quite possibly going to be REPLACED by Machines so they ought to be a bit more careful about taking care of customers! read more

If you are near City Hall/Civic Center and need to mail something, this is your post office location. The clerks are helpful and ask you good questions to make sure your purchase is the right one for you. All post offices are busy, but this one keeps the line moving quite nicely. read more

Never fond of a long line during my lunch break... I had to send a letter out via Priority Mail...as I stood at the end of a long line filling out the form, a nice lady came up to me and asked if she can help me! Bad, bad memory of mine...I think her name is Mia. She walked me through every step at the machine...smiling...kind and helpful. Best service hands down from any post office. Everyone is super friendly, there were no lines, and they helped me mail the weirdest shaped package of all time quite quickly. SUPER impressed. Also, the woman who greets you when you walk in needs a promotion. She's killing it. read more

DONT OPEN A PO BOX HERE. Not only do they open LATE, they charged me TWICE for one year PO BOX ($120 x2) and couldn't give me refund of the second process. They also closed my P.O. Box in their system so I can't manage it online but it's still active. Then in order to have my husband receive mail, we showed up, signed papers, made photo copies of our IDs... they said we both will receive mail... 3 months later they rejected my husbands mail for no reason whatsoever. Missed jury duty, missed letters, never got mail anywhere. INCOMPETENT STAFF!!! read more

I really like this post office. I really enjoy dropping my mail off here. It's very convenient to market street.I always use the automated machine. you can ship out packages and also buy stamps. The automated machine also excepts credit cards. read more

This is by far the worst Post Office I've ever expereinced. I had a letter that needed to postmark. I waited in line for 30 minutes just be refused by the clerk. Unfortunately I was served by the worst clerk (her name is Joyce Calloway). She was rude. She refused to take my letter and told me to put it in the slot. I didnt' like attitude so I requested for her name for I would file a complaint. She refused to give me her name and called me a cheap *ss. I have already filed a complaint to USPS consumer affairs. I recommend people should do the same if they want to improve the services in this branch. Absolutely horrrible! P read more

Do not go here if you need to mail in your passport renewal and pay the fees. I walked in with the form completed in hand as well as the photos and expired passport. All I needed was to pay the expedited fee and enclose the money order. The woman at the desk was so rude and yelled at me for not having it sealed in the envelope. How am I supposed to seal it without the money order??? Finally a male employee told me to ignore her and he helped me. He was very nice however did not seem like he knew anything about the money order or passport fees. I asked for the manager because I was getting worried since we need our passport expedited and back in less than a month. She came over and just stood there dumbfounded as the other women yelled at me and I tried to explain that everything was ready, I just needed to pay. Absolutely rediculous! I don't even want to give this location 1 star. This post office is the WORST in the City and any other post office I have ever walked in. The clerks have nothing but attitude and what kills me more is the damn manager is there and hears her clerks rudeness. The clerks sit on their ass and do not help at all and when you do not understand them or ask for specific information they want to argue with you. I hate this post office and try to avoid it. There are people out there that need jobs and would appreciate having that job and helping people. Instead they hired a bunch of overweight lazy asses to sit at the front desk and ruin peoples day, they should of become meter maids they have the same attitude. read more

This has been the most drawn out experience ever to get a post office box. I could literally cry right now while writing this review as I am physically waiting at the counter. I have been given wrong information regarding general delivery, post office boxes and locations for services by the same postal worker. I'm so bothered that I cannot even ask him his name...but you will definitely know it is him because he will be the only person without a name tag. Today, Bao and Gabriel are working and the "no name tag guy" is between both workers and this is my fourth visit for a post office box. The first visit I inquired about general delivery and a post office box. I was told to sign up for general delivery I would have to go to the post office on Pine Street where they will ask me a few questions before signing me up. Even though I told him I had read online that there was no application process for general delivery he insisted that I go there. I asked for a post office box application and was provided one stating come back with it filled out and two forms of identification. The second visit I inform him that the post office on Pine Street instructed me to come back to this location (Fox Plaza) for general delivery. The "no name tag guy" then tells me I need to go to 391 Ellis Street for general delivery. I inform him that I believe that is only for pick-up but he insists that I go there to again sign-up. I return a third time where I show him my post office box application, my identification and my social security card. Thinking everything is all good...but no! He tells me that they do not accept social security cards as a second form of identification and states I can go to City Hall for some sort of voter's registration form that cost $1.50. I then walk to City Hall's voter department, get the form and return back to the post office. After letting another customer go ahead of me to avoid the rude no name tag employee, Bao states that I need to wait for Gabriel since he is a supervisor and can approve post office boxes. The "no name tag guy" then rudely informs me that he can approve them and waives for me to come up to the counter. I show him all of the documents and he then tells me that in order for the additional people on my application (one minor & two adults) to receive mail at the post office box they'd have to come in WITH ME and bring identification. I was totally bummed at this point. I began scratching out their names because I was not about to leave and return for the fifth time. It just wasn't going to happen! I ended up leaving with the keys for my post office box but the rest of my family cannot receive mail which is another issue. The icing on the cake...thank goodness I logged into my usps.com account because he had given me the wrong postal address for my box. I feel like he knows he is rude and always receives complaints so he purposely does not wear a name tag. But I'm sure I'll stop back by and will be sure to get his picture so you can avoid him at all costs. read more

One African-American lady with glasses in this post office was extremely impatient and rude when the customer asked her questions. Her name is Joyce (she never wore her business name tag though) Joyce ignored the customer's inquiries and requests. Instead of helping the customer, Joyce asked the customer to go home and figure out what she needed, in a very loud voice, like yelling. Joyce also complaint that the customer wasted her time. The customer wanted a 2nd day mail originally. Joyce gave her a Priority Mail instead (Joyce's fault). When the customer requested to upgrade the mail service from the Priority Mail to the 2nd day mail, Joyce refused to do so and complaint that the customer was wasting her time. She said extremely loudly to the customer," You already paid for the Priority Mail. I CANNOT change it. This transaction is done. There is NOTHING I can do. You need to LEAVE. NOW!!!" The customer refused to leave and asked for the package back. Joyce then yelled at the customer," You already paid for the package. This package no longer belongs to you. It is MY package, MY package now. You are NOT listening. Move you hand and LEAVE!" Joyce tried to pick up a fight from the beginning for no reason. read more

Came around 5pm on a Tuesday. 12 people in line, 2 postal workers at the counter. Average less than 1 minute per customer. Altogether took less than 10m to get to the counter. Not amazing, but not terrible either. read more

Post office is temporarily now in the fox plaza due to construction? Anyways this post office can get busy, but if you have a prepaid mailing label, no problem. You can either drop it on the desk or the mail box in the back without having to wait in line. I mailed a few items this month and all have arrived pretty fast. Thank you! read more

They never have anyone on the "pick up" counter! I usually wait 15-20 until someone comes! and that place smells horrible! You barely can breathe. The people that work there are extremely RUDE! The type that you are even scared to ask them anything! read more

Here's to Ken the Postmaster who so carefully helped me get my passport documentation all together before sending it out overnight via Express Mail. To think that I almost spend $200 bucks getting a 3rd party to rush my passport back to me in 6-9 days! HA. I sent out my passport info out on the 10th and got it back to me on the 18th. Not bad for the Federal Government, eh? Ken reassured me that I would get it back in time and made me feel good about the whole process. The whole thing cost me about $17.50. The WORST customer service if you are served by JOYCE......She doesn't wear a name tag so it is hard to tell. However, she has pony tail and the most angry face. I'm sure post office provide trainings for their employees regarding customer service but JOYCE didn't get it. She doesn't smile maybe not happy with her life or job. I just had the rudest experience at the US Post Office located at Fox Plaza. The pleasant looking Asian gentleman working there screamed at me from across a roomful of people trying to give me direction. Direction I did not need or ask for. It led up to an almost verbal argument with how I wanted to ship. It was a very unpleasant experience. It cost $21 to ship something valued at close to $1000, it was an affordable option, so thank you Postal Service. I won't look forward sadly to my next trip here. What a shame. read more

My father, who lives in SF, mailed a package to me in New Jersey. He paid for overnight shipping(for business purposes), including $100.00 insurance. Not only was it not delivered when promised, but, when my father returned to the post office for the refund, guaranteed by the PO, should the package not arrive when promised(It was delivered a full day later), he was given such a run-around by the staff, including the supervisor. When, finally, THEIR computer showed that my father was right, they blamed the entire thing on his signing a "signing waiver", as if that had ANYTHING to do their failure. This is not the first problem that this post office has failed my father. Not too long ago, he shipped another package through them. To this day, it has not been delivered. I never had such good experience as in this one - Post Office. I didnt know how to return an item and seeked help. Haydee helped me read instructions on package and made copy for me as proof of return package and helped me so much in correctly filling our return form. And at the counter, Rick also helped so good in correctly advising about tracking and priority mail and my experience was so pleasant and I felt so good to receive such wonderful customer support which is lacking every where now a days. read more

Worst. Post office. Ever. (Well, there was a worse one in my old neighborhood in Atlanta...) A couple of the clerks are nice, but it's luck of the draw if you will get them. The female clerks here are MEAN and rude (and have been for the 10+ years that I've been here). They move so slow (slower when the line is longer, it seems), almost like they relish making people miserable/mad. There are also often a lot of crazies from the neighborhood in line here, especially when rent is due and a bunch of people with no bank accounts are getting money orders. The one star is for the self-service machine in the lobby, which is not rude and which usually has a short line.. Oh, maybe I should give another star since this post office has a package drop-off slot that you can put postage-paid packages into... But, no, still 1 star since actually I would give it minus-one star if I could. If you're in this neighborhood anyway and looking for a post office, you may as well walk further and go to the one in the federal building, which nobody knows about so the line is always short and the clerks are usually friendly. read more

i have been to this post office a few times since moving to san francisco and have had a rather pleasant time each time i went. sure it is slow. but what post office have you been to were the workers move on any speed but turtle? sure it can be busy at times. "oh no, you are kidding me? you went to the post office at lunch time and there was a line?!?! whaaaaaa? get over it. people mail things. and contrary to popular belief not everything can be emailed just yet. the staff here has always been friendly to me, which reinstates my belief that at its heart humanity is decent (it is a government building after all...) and today the guy behind the counter saved me four bucks by telling me to ship with the standard fare box when he just as easily could have done nothing. i will continue to bring my packages here when the standard mail box at mcallister and hyde wont fulfill my needs. read more

i hate this usps. the longs are forever and then people are then no help with their angry looks when you say you want a certain amount of something. it's annoying. they don't seem to care, today was a fine example. i normally get stamps here and mail mail if i need it out by today. but i didn't use my card to get stamps and it just annoys me that u can't buy stamps with cash. GUYS it's just stamps! it's like easy peasy lemon squeezy but not to them, man i just wanted a certain amount of .44/forever stamps. but it couldn't be done today just couldn't. read more

You're better off waiting for any clerk other than Joyce (AA women, pony tail, bad dentures, etc)..........she is by far the RUDEST person I've ever met. She will pick apart EVERYTHING about your package. (She once told me I put my label in the wrong place!). RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! There are never more than two clerks at a time, so if Joyce is there..........wait for the other one. It's worth the extra time. Or, better yet, use Fed Ex or UPS...........!!!! read more

i only mail packages via USPS priority boxed mail, not silly envelopes like the other yelpers who gave this PO 1 star. since they added/installed the self service machine, i no longer have to wait a long line ever again. that machine is a god send, praise jesus! :} read more

This is the 2nd worst post office in the city. The worst is 101 Hyde. I do whatever I can to avoid standing in that line and use the automated postal center they have in the lobby. The Post Office is a lot like the DMV and it's own tiny little version of hell. So if you do have to go there to mail a package be prepared to stand in line. What I personally do is use the Automated Postage Center for my package and then just hand it to somebody at the counter. read more

This post office also the closest one in my area. I actually became a regular here just because I don't have a car and I have a lot to ship. I was given stamps in place of a postage sticker and told to apply them myself and put them in the box OUTSIDE!

This post office needs to be shut down or hire staff that know how to service customers. Went in today to mail a package using their flat rate boxes. The one I needed was not stocked with their supplies again . I had to get in line and wait 20mins to ask the clerk for one. When I did she told me to get it my self from their supply area. I politely informed her there were none there and that's why I have been in line for 20 mins. She turned her back on me and then said we have no more. And said I should use another box which would cost me double the price . I had the misfortune of witnessing her snarly attitude and rude behavior at the Geary and Fillmore location on previous visits there. I had hoped USPS finally terminated her but just transferred her so she can have her pension for being rude , lazy , unhelpful . The people she was helping before me was treated with the exact same attitude I received. USPS if you want business have the tools that your customers require . We are not asking for a lot. read more
