Once I got to the front, the super kind lady brought me through the side door to take my picture. She took a few snaps, asked me which one was best? I told her they all look the same. She went over my paperwork, had me make a few changes, additions, photocopied all the things (extra charge) and with the swipe of my debit card for $184.55, I was on my way. This should be called the Noe Valley Passport Office and not the post office.There are three windows . Two had clerks processing passports and the third had the clerk opening a safe deposit box contract. We all stood there for a long, long time. No one was buying stamps or mailing parcels at the counter. When I finally made it to a clerk, I got my stamps and when I paid , her finger shot to the debit machine snd clicked the happy face for customer service. REALLY????? I couldn't believe if, I told her that isn't the customer service response I would have picked. Do yourself a favor snd go up to the Diamond Heights post office. It is so much better. read more

Was at the counter this time to send something and these "federal employees" were arguing, completely ignoring customers at the counter and one of them just walks off into the back as if this was priority. SOME HELPFUL ADVICE: as of 4/28/2025, If you need a passport but do not have an appointment you will have to be ONE of TWO walk-in appointments. I repeat, ONE of TWO. They WILL NOT accept more than 2 walk-ins per day, and it is first come first serve. They will reject ANYONE after the first 2 people in line, absolutely no exceptions. That means you need to show up here EARLY to get your place in line. The office doesn't open until 9 am officially but they open the doors at 8:30. Do not make the mistake of showing up at 8. Do not make the mistake of showing up at 7:30. Get there at 6 am so you can be first in line. I know this because I was rejected the first time and it was the WORST. The second time I got there at 4 am (overkill, I know) , so I was for sure first in line, and I watched SO MANY PEOPLE show up late and get rejected. I felt bad for them. Only one star because Damian was great, but the woman working the middle register was a monster. Incredibly rude, and I believe racist as well. She was nasty at her coworker and accused him of wasting paper because he photocopied some form. I went there for my passport, and I would advise no one go to that lady. Truly the worst USPS experience around. I live in the neighborhood and have to come here often and every single time it is a huge wait whether there are a lot of people in there or not. Every single time those working there can't be bothered and are definitely not interested in efficiency or making sure people are helped. I often drive miles out of the way to go to another location because o dread coming here, and always when I go anyway I am reaffirmed in this. If you have something out of the usual such as a consular of birth report they won't even know what that is and that it is a valid form of identification and will send you away. read more

Trigger warning: homophobia. This post office is in serious need of customer service and DEI training. I went in with my same sex partner to get a passport for our child whose birth certificate we are both on as parent #1 and parent #2. The postal worker CELINA said--in front of our child who is old enough to understand--"Two moms?! No dad?!" several times. I am appalled that in 2024 in San Francisco this is even an issue or a question that has to be asked. Yes, they do FBI fingerprinting here and the scanning machine is working as of today when I went in to get my scan. Things to know: - You must have registered online before coming in. - You will need your electronic order number. - You will need a valid state-issued ID. - Passport appointments are priority, then FBI fingerprints. - Only a select few people at this location can do this for you. - Times they are available to do this is 10 AM to 3 PM. - You only have 2-3 tries per day. - Do not use any hand sanitizer or lotion. Have clean hands without residue or you may encounter issues. The people here are very nice and helpful. read more

This is the best post office in San Francisco with extremely knowledgeable and efficient employees. If you need to do something like renew your passport, they'll check everything before you send it off. They also have the FBI fingerprinting service there and are very efficient with that. I've rarely had to wait in a significant line - usually 0-2 people ahead of me. read more

I needed a new passport for my almost 5 year old quick and all appointments were a month out and checked in with the ladies at the post office and they informed me to score a same day appointment (one of two allowed per day) then show up at 630. I thought she was joking but she gave me a "I don't play " look so I knew she was serious. However, I still wanted to cross reference as 0630 just seemed so uncivilized so I came to this page and thank you to Christina V, the truth teller. Dropped my hubby off at 0630 with a foldable chair and he was the first person there. By 0645, the second person showed up. According to hubby, a few dropped by and saw 2 of them already waiting and therefore left. I showed up with our daughter around 0830 as both parents need to be present to get a new passport for a minor but we were out by 0915. I want to echo Christina V's pro tip: we got our daughter's passport picture taken at the UPS store across the street that thankfully opens just before the post office so we made good use of that waiting around time. They only accept the first 2 passport applications so have to get there early. 1st time arrived at 9 and turned away. 2nd time arrived at 7 turned away. 3rd time arrived at 5:45 and wasn't turned away. Went in for a passport renewal for my kid who was last issued a passport when they were under 15 (technically it was a new application) last week as a drop-in. Lined up at 6:30am with a picnic chair. Yes, 6:30am. By 6:40 there was a second person in line. This location only takes 2 drop ins per day so come early! But shortly before 8 I realized I should probably have copies of the old passport. And I was concerned sitting there reading reviews that maybe the passport photo machine could be broken. Luckily, there was a UPS store across the street with a kind and helpful guy who made copies and took the passport pics we needed. One of us stayed in line at the USPS, of course! We were let into the lobby at 8:30. By 9 we were in the office and were done by 9:20!!! Yes! Tips: make copies, have your pics ready, paperwork organized, checkbook or money order for the fee, and a credit or debit for the shipping, and your originals (passport, social, ID, etc.) Most importantly, be kind to the staff!! I went to apply for a passport, and the person who helped me was very friendly. They rejected the passport photos that I got from a professional photographer. I was told that I can't show teeth when I'm smiling. (Apparently, the requirements are that you must have a neutral facial expression in your passport photos). The USPS person went out of their way to get me a nice photo. They pointed out that my hair was sticking out and provided free hair styling products to fix it (I'm not even joking) before they retook the photo. read more

I'm sad to give them one star. Their customer service is absolutely horrendous. If you want your fingerprints done, they will give you every excuse in the book on why it can't be done. We went to get fingerprints done and they told us their machine was "out of batteries". This was during the first 10 minutes of fingerprinting hours. They said to come back in two hours. After two hours, they said the machine wasn't working well and we only had three tries. After three tries, they said they couldn't do it and to go to Daly City. By the time this happened, Daly City was already closed for fingerprints. When I said that, she said "I know". So she deliberately wanted to send me to another location, during rush hour, just so she didn't have to work. After going to another location, I found out there was no such thing as a three try rule either... I wish I would've gotten her name but I believe it is the only Philipino lady that works there that is "qualified" to take fingerprints. read more

The guy who helped customers take care of their postal transaction was friendly and efficient. I like that this post office is located within a walking distance to nearby bus stops. A few other customers and I came in here, it wasn't super busy which is always a good thing. It is always good to have postal facility nearby. I am Muslim and I wear headscarf . I came to this post office to apply for my US passport and take a picture for it as well. The employee who was going to take my picture said "take it off". I thought he was referring to my mask, which I removed, but then he repeated himself pointing and referring to my headscarf. My husband and I were shocked and offended, and when we said "no, please just take the picture", the employee became defensive and starting saying "don't tell me what to do" very confrontationally especially towards my husband, and neither of us responded to his aggression. The employee went back to his colleagues refusing to take the picture. Someone else took over apologizing and taking my picture with my headscarf. There were many witnesses to what happened. Along with all of this, they asked me to write on the copy of my CA driver's license that I wear a headscarf for religious reasons. I think having to do this is absurd, especially when my actual US Citizenship Certificate had my picture on it with headscarf... that should be proof enough. I understand stand there are certain criteria to be met when it comes to passport pictures, but there is no reason I have to be treated with such discrimination when applying for a US passport in person. I have applied for a US visa, permanent residency, and citizenship all in the last 10 years and I have never had to explain the reasoning for my headscarf, nor has anyone harassed me in such a way. I highly discourage anyone from coming to this post office for a passport application. read more

I really dont get this post office, it serves little purpose to Noe Valley. The lines are always deep and slow. The workers, well, they aren't unfriendly, but they come off a bit robotic. If this post office had a vending or automated machine (like most normal post offices these days), it would be way more useful and ease up on the line. But, it gets worse if you actually live in Noe. Why? If you miss a package and the post office puts a little slip in your mailbox. You go to the USPS in the Castro on 18th. WTF! I've been to a lot of post offices in my day, and I'd put this guy at the near the top of the list. The line is usually quite manageable and the staff isn't as surly as you usually find at your local postal location. They were even helpful when I came in with a legitimately odd request: to exchange some old forever stamps for some new ones (I like trees better than bells). I just have one complaint: there is no self-service robot. When I have a package in USPS packaging and need some quick sending action, I prefer the robot. The space there is limited, but I'd love it if they kicked out some of the packaging stations and brought in the machine. But for your core postal needs, this place is just fine. read more

She took the time to make sure our application was correct (including taking another picture of our little one) and it sounded like she skipped her break to help us. I teach public school with a big ol' smile on my face every day of the school year, regardless of which kid is vomiting on the floor from the stomach flu or which parent is yelling at me because their kid lost a hat. I've been spit on, nearly stabbed with a pencil, had chairs thrown at me, been accused of making too much money for not enough effort...and never, ever have I lost it on anyone while at work. I frequent this post office and every time after I leave I ask myself why I go to this post office. I will be utilizing a different one from now on, even if it is less convenient. There are usually the same two people working; a male with white hair and a shorter middle-aged lady. The lady is quite friendly. The man, on the other hand, should just retire. I visited this post office yesterday to mail a package to Canada for a friend. (Note: I have never sent an international package before). There were two people ahead of me that were both being helped, so I was first in line. Even though I was first in line, I waited for approximately 10 minutes. When the man greeted me, he rolled his eyes and asked in a rude manner, "Haven't you ever shipped anything internationally? You need to fill out this paper (he handed me the paper)." I did not appreciate the way that he talked down to me. After filling out the paper and waiting in line (again), this man (again) rolled his eyes and said that, "no one ever fills these out correctly." He told me that I need to READ it. How rude to talk down to me instead of try to help me! Apparently I wasn't quite descriptive enough about the contents of the package. ("Clothes" = not okay. "Baby clothes" = perfect...whatever!) I could go on and on about the rude service that I received here and I wish it was just the first time that I was greeted in such a rude manner by this man. But I'll spare you. Moral of the story: this post office seems to be exceptionally slow, unfriendly, and quite rude. read more

I normally dislike this place, but today I hate it, thus pushing me over the edge to writing the review. FIrst off, let me justify why I even come here: It's super close to where I live. So today, I go in and look for some sort of instructions on how to ship things internationally. I don't see any handouts or signs (error #1) so I'm like, ok I'll just wait in line, they'll tell me, give me the papers, I'll fill them out and get back in line. So I get in line, this woman is fairly nice, gives me the handouts and warns me that they close at 5 so I better hurry. Seems like reasonable advice. It also leads me to believe that when I do get everything together before 5, all my dreams and wishes will come true. I take the advice, fill out everything I can and get back in line at 4:55, never having left the facility. I wait in line an additional 10 minutes because some people had gotten in line while I was filling out the forms. The woman who originally helped me seemed to be cleaning up and organizing boxes and its just the "gentleman" who keeps getting up from his post going to the back, coming back to the customer, both during and between each customer. All customers notice this very strange behaviour and are looking at each other wondering what the f is going on. Then randomly he starts cleaning boxes, then tends to another customer. Basically he's incredibly slow and doesn't acknowledge that we don't want to be there just as much as he doesn't and the only difference is that he's being paid to be there. So finally he sits down to focus, people are rolling their eyes and are pissed. Its my turn- I walk over, big smile, explain to him that I'm shipping some boxes internationally and I'd appreciate any help. He looks at his watch and says: I can't help you. I'm going home in 5 minutes. And that was it. He looked at me and I stared back and then I realized he was waiting for me to leave. And so I did and here I am telling you about it. Lessons: 1. Don't go there if you can help it 2. Parking sucks if you need it 3. if you have to go there, make sure you research which forms to fill out ahead of time 4. If you don't have forms and perhaps even if you do, set aside at least an hour to deal with these employees read more

Wow--I haven't actually been yelled at in quite a long time......until today. I knew I was in for it when I walked up to Sammy's window. Everything about his demeanor spelled misanthrope. The small, bubbled envelope that I wanted to mail showed 6 different prices on the monitor that I was viewing while he weighed it. It was the size of a small envelope--only bubbled inside. I opted for .49. He yelled that this price was for an envelope. I asked him why it displayed that price and he yelled, "It's a parcel! $2.49!" Confused, I asked again why it was displaying .49. At that point, he grabbed a large envelope from his bin and yelled, "This is envelope!!" I thought he was going to stroke out on me. My immediate reaction was to yell back, "Stop yelling at me!" Of course, this resulted in an immediate, silenced, awkward pause from all the other people waiting in line. I paid the $2.49 and then threw my envelope at him. Then he calmly asked, "You want stamps?" This has always been such an odd place. It's like a circus sideshow. Does anyone remember the angry redhead from years ago? read more
