I wish I could improve my hometown post office . It is rundown and disheveled from the outside. The workers are nice but I think it's understaffed ... often one frustrated person, with very long lines. Sometimes , the only person working disappears for long periods of time. Lately the inside displays for forms, boxes, tape holders ,are completely empty .I have talked to many who now go to nearby smaller PO in Evanston or Kenilworth with faster service. I have lived here for 30 years , and The last few years we often seem to get other peoples mail . Recently filled out a form to stop mail while going out of town... it was completely ignored. This post office needs some attention and I hope it gets some help. The workers look miserable. read more

Had to stop here to drop off some cards for Mother's Day for back at home. Nice that they have the boxes right up front to go out, likely will go out tomorrow. It's easy parking out front. In and out for a drop off at least. read more

Scary. Used to like this PO--friendly customer service, old school atmosphere, bit slow but okay. In recent years, however, it's devolved into a nightmare (as others here have noted). The building itself, sitting here on the North Shore of the city of Chicago, is a mess. I can handle old, old is fine. But this place cries out for a paint job, someone to prune the bushes, new windows (they look taped; are we expecting a hurricane?), and more. It's just plain dirty. Why, you'll wonder. But, the service; the service is simply poor. Very slow, cranky, and often incompetent. The former staffers who were reasonably nice and quick are all gone, retired, onto greener pastures, whatever. The new staff...? Hmm... But think twice about complaining! I understand that the same post mistress is there; believe her name is Tammy. Tammy is, as others have noted, rude, difficult, and aggressive; she comes out swinging. She can get away with this for the obvious reason that she's working at the PO; she'd not survive in any other setting, not with this behavior. I've had to take Tammy on twice. Once because my mail kept arriving wet and ruined, the second time because my mail wasn't arriving, period. Here's a hint: prepare for the worse, know what you want, and don't backdown. Use the "firm but calm broken record method", repeat as often as needed. She will huff and puff and attempt to blow you away, just hang in and insist. This IS the US Postal Service, is it not? We deserve (and pay for) something better. read more

Only one person working there and he disappeared as soon as there was a line. Waited 15 minutes to ship a package and when the one worker was done the passport appointment took priority and cut the line of people just wanting to ship one package. Don't know why they have no pride in their work or attempt at customer service. Go somewhere else even if this is the closet post office. read more

Love when you call a place for an answer to a question and their idea of customer service is to put you on hold until you hang up, when they get back online surprised you haven't hung up - they know exactly who you are, restate your question and then put you on hold again. The only good thing I can say about this place is at least the Northshore now gets to experience the crap service the rest of us living in less pricey zip codes experience. Might as well spread that civil service job security "I can't be fired attitude" around. read more

This post office is generally slow, but not any worse than any other USPS I've been in. The workers are usually nice. But good grief, what a ridiculous experience I've had this past month. I sent a package to Australia at the beginning of November (which cost $35 in postage), and when it hadn't arrived by the end of the month, I went into the post office to track it (because the online system didn't even have it leaving Chicago yet). Well, they accidentally sent it to Austria. Yeah, like Vienna, Austria. Two months later, the package is still out there in the great void, circulating wherever lost packages go to stay lost. Yes, the workers have been very nice and have assured me that I can send the package again for free whenever it arrives back in Chicago. But.... I mean.... It's still not here, and it obviously didn't make it to the destination by the holidays. And I'm not completely confident it will make it to any destination at any point in the near future. So just not a great experience all around. read more

I have not gotten any mail (Skokie Area) for the last four days. My bank issued me a replacement debit card on 6/24. It never came to my home. Anything to do with financials has "mysteriously" disappeared from my mail in the last week. Would like to know what the hell is going on here. Can someone tell me? I'm not even getting junk mail. Don't bother going to this location - go to winnetka, evanston, skokie or any other nearby suburb. Bad service, really slow, and very unhelpful staff. Wasted 45 minutes to get zero help. Only had one woman working and line was moving incredibly slow. read more

Wilmette's best post office for walk-in service. Very polite and quick at the counter. Very helpful filling out forms, etc. Some mail delivery people are not very nice. They solicited mail boxes throughout the village and open boxes that get delivered to people's homes. Otherwise, very courteous on the phone and inside the post office. read more

If you give this post office a bad review, you need a reality check. This post office runs circles around the Chicago and Evanston post offices. Circles. Friendly employees. That's huge. A self service station, that's good too. I literally go out of my way to come to this post office because it delights me compared to Evanston. Get out of your deep Northshore bubbles and figure out how good you have it. You guys are living the DREAM. read more

This is the most poorly run USPS office I have ever dealt with. They rarely deliver packages on time. They need a new postmaster.

Mail does not get delivered in Wilmette or Kenilworth. Repeated calls to the post office result in rude employees not caring if you got your mail or not. Postmaster has no clue. Can someone help out about how to go above the postmaster to get this resolved??? read more

I typically hate the post office in downtown Evanston because the line is always so long. I've found that this post office on my way to work is so much better and faster! Though this branch is a little smaller, there is rarely a long wait to get to the front of the line. The Korean ladies who I see here often are pretty nice but beware they are blunt! But this place meets my needs and doesn't waste my time waiting in line! Also free parking! read more

This place is the stereotype of the miserable government institution. It even feels like hell - the place is always insufferably hot. The lines are long, the room is cramped and the workers are slow, whether it be for mail or for passports. I've been there for passports twice, and my God it made me think twice about whether I really needed to leave the country. Try the small post office on Central Street in Evanston for mail or else the downtown Evanston branch instead. read more

Tamme is THE RUDEST person I've ever had to work with. She is the epitome of bad Post Office people! The WORST! I've run into her a handful of times, and each time she is rude, mean and insulting. I have a P.O. box at this place. I checked my PO box late one night and found I had a 'yellow card' indicating I had a very large package to pick up, that wouldn't fit in my small PO box. The next day I went to the post office, with my I.D., to claim my package. Tamme demanded I produce the 'yellow claim card' from my PO box that said I had a package. I didn't have it on me, tho I did have my I.D. and my PO box key for validation. Tamme threw a temper tantrum, demanding I have the 'yellow claim card'. "Why did you lose the yellow card? You can NOT get your package without the yellow card! What is wrong with you, that you no have yellow card?!" I am a frequent customer and have a PO box here. I have my ID. I don't think there is a problem here. But she was shouting at me and gesturing for me to leave. I thought, This Is Ridiculous! Here's my ID, please get my package. She wildly over-reacted, yelling, to the point everyone looking to see what the matter was. One of the other employees hurried over to calm her down and assure me there was no problem. They checked my I.D. and brought my box. Easy Peasy. read more

I frequently receive mail for neighbors. Mail is set inside the door instead of through the mail slot without regards to type of mail (envelope vs. magazine. Carriers are frequently speaking on phone and not focusing on delivery. No attention to detail. Have heard this complaint from neighbors as well. I would send a letter to the postmaster of my local post office but I doubt he would get it. The good thing about this place is that you can get to meet your neighbors as you wait in line for service. You also can avoid paying bills as they are not delivered. I placed have my mail on vacation hold 3 times in the last few years, only to come home to piles of mail on my front porch... it appears that at least one of three mail carriers servicing my address will not know there was a hold... finally in desperation I purchased a postal box... it has helped. However, mail delivered to my home address by error is sent to the Wilmette post office but instead of it being placed in my box in that post office, it apparently takes a tour of several mail sorting facilities in Illinois before winding up in my postal box... I have no idea how many pieces never make it back read more

Went to renew an expired Passport and was told I needed an appointment, even though previously, I did not need an appointment. With 2 clerks and no one waiting in line, they told me they had an opening in 5 weeks. No wonder they are going broke!! read more

I can't believe all these negative reviews. Impossible to believe. I live within two blocks of the Main Evanston Post Office in Evanston and I gave up going there because of the l-o-n-g, interminable lines and the lack of postal clerks, frequently only one clerk on duty with ten to fifteen patrons waiting in line. I tried the Skokie Branch on Skokie Blvd and found a smaller version of the Main Evanston post office: l-o-n-g lines, only one postal clerk and lines of patrons waiting to be served. And then, EUREKA! I found the Main Wilmette post office in a quaint building, easy on-street parking, and two postal clerks ready to serve. Never a long line. In and out in minutes! As a resident of Evanston, Illinois I happily drive to the Wilmette Main Post Office. read more

I live in Evanston and I've been a commercial shipper and heavy user of the USPS for almost 30 years now, I've used many different Post Offices all over the country, spending 6 figure sums over the years on shipping and mailing. Crybabies Steve, June, and Matt don't know what they're talking about -- this is one of the best Post Offices in the system -- the staff is knowledgeable and efficient (and polite), and my packages and letters are always sent out of Wilmette in a timely manner (I would never trust my shipping to either of the Evanston Post Offices mentioned). read more

Absolutey the worst, horrible experience.... I was not getting any mails in two months at the newly purchased property and called the post office to find out why and resolve the problem. The employee who answered the phone was rude, did not want to help the customer in need, nearly yelling through the phone and banged receiver down so hard the sound nearly cracked my eardrum - I wonder if her boss knows his emplyee has absolutely no customer service skills and respect. This post office is the worst! 1. Mail is typically delivered to our house after 6pm. 2. One of our carriers is always shouting on her cell phone, so we can hear her walking down the street. 3. The other carrier we get thinks it's her job to tell us off for opening a door or giving back mail that was wrongly delivered to us. 4. We ALWAYS get mail that belongs to other people - addresses not remotely similar to ours. 5. I've been told that mail (delivered soaking wet) is not their problem. 6. On the harshest of winter days, the carriers leave the mail in our door mail slot so that the slot is wide open and the cold air passes right into the house; yet when the weather is mild, they somehow always manage to slip the mail through the door. *7. The wost part is talking with people at the post office over the phone. They are always RUDE! Disgustingly, rude! I've had them "uh-huh" getto talk over me and laugh, shrugging off the concern as if they don't care and won't correct the problem. Their tone of voice and "attitude" serve to escalate the intensity of what could and should have been a simple conversation. I'd love to mail them a bar of soap so they can wash out their mouths, but it would likely be delivered to the wrong address and after hours at that. As I've been told, I get the service I get and that's all there is to it. They are awful!! AWFUL!! read more
