Had to wait 45 minutes past my scheduled passport appointment time because there was only a one employee to handle both the mail desk and passport services. I had a simple but good experience here. I'm closer to the USPS in Federal Hill on Hanover, but I needed a receipt for the box I was dropping off, and apparently the Fed location does not do that. I was pleased this particular USPS location has parking. I pulled into a spot in the lot and hurried inside. It was huge in there, I had no idea! I had to ask a security guard where I could drop the package off and get a receipt. When I arrived at that area, there were no others in line. I went to the first open register area, handed the USPS worker my box and asked for a receipt. She quickly provided me one and we wished each other a good day. From what I know, this location stays open until 8pm during the week. How convenient! It's clean with a few hand sanitizing stations. There has always been a small line (maybe 4 people) every time I've stopped in but the line goes quickly. Some of the postal workers are a lot friendlier than others, despite the time of day of your visit. read more

I am thrilled to locate a U.S. Post Office with a Self-service Kiosk in Baltimore, MD. The post office lobby has an armed guard in the lobby. I found the armed guard to be exceptionally friendly, when I inquired about additional Priority Mail boxes. I observed a USPS employee walking through the lobby observing if anyone needed assistance. Parking is adequate at this USPS location. I am looking forward to visiting this USPS location again in the near future. read more

I have to mail out about 24 envelopes full of important applications to hospitals around the country and for the second round of envelopes, I stopped by this post office. Carolyn, my clerk this morning, was kind, efficient, and empathetic. I told her about how I was just at UPS to mail an envelope to SF for $32 to get there 2 business days from now. I gave Carolyn my 5 other envelopes of equal size, paid $11 for all of them, and she even circled that they would get to their destinations in 2 business days at the latest. She finished my mailing needs almost immediately and she even had to change the receipt roll before we started. Overall, great experience and I recommend USPS over other mailing services. read more

Recently we purchased some items from a capable antique dealer in Baltimore. These items were shipped from this post office and arrived very late. Our shipper sent them via Priority Mail and they were supposed to be out to us on the West Coast in two business days (more on this later). The clerk at this postal counter sold Priority Mail to our shipper but did not place sufficient Priority Mail labels on the package so although we paid for Priority service it was handled as parcel post which is much slower. If the foregoing was not enough to get your dander up the sorters in the back sent this package to San Juan, Puerto Rico not San Francisco, California which really messed things up. Postal tracking on this package was a joke. It finally turned up being sent out West form San Juan which as far as we can tell is as far east as any domestic US Mail can get. I should note the postal service has an attitude problem on tracking. We finally get the package at three times more than the advertised delivery date and once it arrived in San Francisco the orange notations on tracking it was messed up were brushed aside by the notation on time. What on time it was three times later than promised you clowns... If you are going to ship something avoid this post office as it might never get there and you will pay top dollar for shipping only to have it handled like a steerage package. Back to my above comment on Priority Two Day Service... When I am in the post office they are always pushing the Priority Mail two day service. If you take a hard look they only are really saying it will be there between two and 10 days. My guess for this quote is anything lost 10 days will never turn up at the post office. If you are using Priority Mail they guarantee nothing regardless of what they say and if the clerk does not put a priority mail sticker on all sides of the box it will probably get handled as parcel post. Sorry I can not make any recommendation on how to avoid stupid people who send a westbound package thousands of miles east because they cannot read a postal generated shipping label. I had a package delivered to this location on 07/23/2020 at 7:33 am. I opened a case to try and find my package and was told it was closed today 07/31/2020. That they never received the package even though it was on the manifesto from DHL. I can't believe that USPS can do this. I have seen other reviews of this location and they could really use some Management improvement. The tracking below shows package acceptance pending since 07/23/2020. As far as post offices go, I think this is a really great one. It's got parking, extended hours (that 7 pm closing is a blessing when most others close around 5 and you've been procrastinating on mailing out whatever it is that needs to get mailed out), and friendly staff. David was our personable and professional clerk and even took the time out to explain to us a bit about international forever stamps (given we were sending out a bunch of cards to Canada), and he was courteous and efficient. I've found over the course of my years at many, many POs that sometimes you will have employees who are one or the other (and, ugh, sometimes neither) but today we checked off all the boxes! Anyway, when I need a PO and the drop off box in my lobby won't do, I think I've found my go-to place. (They've also got a plethora of mailing supplies in the retail lobby as well, so that's great!) read more

There's not really much to say regarding the USPS; it's a government entity, it's how we get and send mail, and everyone is at least familiar with how it works. I usually come here to send my packages, though, because it has the most convenient hours for me, and it's the closest branch to my house that is open on the weekends. It's rare that I have to use "full service", but when I do, they're usually pretty polite - I don't have a problem with the employees here. The service I received over the holidays this year was particularly nice - they had someone walking through the lines offering help with everything from packing tape to permanent markers, so that was much appreciated. This location has the service "annex" around the corner, though, and they're a huge pain to deal with - this is the place that I have to go when I get those annoying little orange slips that say "sorry we couldn't leave it in your backyard even though it says on the door to toss the package over the fence, our bad". There is, somehow, always a wait and ALWAYS a line here. Often, they can't find what you're looking for and they're little to no help. "Oh, sorry, our bad." The service annex is what really pulls this review down to three stars, otherwise I wouldn't have an issue with this place. There is plenty of parking and it's very conveniently located near the Shot Tower metro stop. read more

This post office is the main branch for Baltimore City, Maryland and has everything you can imagine as far as a post office is concerned. They have a large staff of counter employees, and the post office is usually very busy. I have come here once per week since December 2010 and have had a pleasant experience each time. Several self service machines and thousands of PO Boxes, too. I am a business bulk mail customer, so I also have the pleasure of working with the BMEU staff in the back. EXCEPTIONAL! Over the past 8 months I've worked with a number of agents, each of which go out of their way to help with any questions I've had learning the process. I send about 1,200 letters/ week and it usually takes me no more than 20-30 minutes from start to finish, and I include trips to both sections of the post office! read more

Well considering I have a few open complaints pending in room 109 against the Essex PO 444 Maryland Ave I'd consider this office to be running more sufficiently than the Essex location. The post master that I spoke to at this location was friendly and a little more open to addressing your concerns though they refuse to let you talk to get your point across. However If still rate this office a 4/5 based off of one phone call but if you ever have to deal with 444 Maryland Ave Post Office WOW after reading some of these reviews I'm seeing that I'm not the only one who thinks this office IS indeed one of the worst there is out there. This office should be investigated inside and outside top to bottom through the Office of Inspectors. Noticeably customer experience is out the door and the employees could care less about anyone who walks through the door. The office itself cannot hold onto employees with a huge turn over rate that reflects extremely poorly of the office post master. That is her office and her team which is a BIG BIG reflection of her. After running into issues after my dog BLINKED at a mail carrier I've had the worst customer experience there is ever to give to ones consumers. This ENTIRE office needs replacing OR JUST SHUT IT DOWN!!!! These employees are NOT worth the pay check. Seriously!! What a disgrace and what a poor representation of the USPS!! An incredibly helpful counter agent helped me ship an item to Germany, and then I used the self-service kiosk to pay for postage on a domestic parcel. Welcome to the devil's playground. This place almost made me lose my faith in humanity. The fact that I cannot rate it less than one star is unfortunate because there is no way I would recommend this location to anymore interested in keeping their sanity. I needed to ship several large packages across the country and I figured that USPS might be a cost-effective option compared with FedEx. This location opened at 8:30am so I arrived at 8:40am on a Wednesday (6/29/2016). I didn't leave until 3:15pm. The employees here (with the possible exception of one person with red hair) seriously don't give a damn. They look overworked and exhausted. They're miserable in their jobs and they spread that misery out to all of the customers. I've never walked into a place and physically felt depressed before coming to this USPS location. In fact, I've rarely written a negative review and hate to call people out but this was the most frustrating experience imaginable. There was one clerk to fifteen customers and she was shooting daggers at all of us for being there. It took an hour to be seen and eventually a couple of other employees dragged themselves out of bed to make it to work around 10:00am. Finally when I got to the counter, I was met with a guy in his twenties named Stephen. Yes, remember that name and run the other way if you see him in this post office. Stephen looked like he had rolled out on the foul side of bed and this time looks did not deceive. He was miserable to work with. Every action he took, every word he spoke was without any sense of purpose or urgency. Someone ahead of me even asked him why he was so depressed and it might have been something to do with his significant other. Regardless, I understand some of us have rough days. That's no excuse to be this slow and obstructive. He couldn't answer any of my questions and barely made eye contact. Imagine the sloths from Zootopia but with patronizing sass. The packages were heavy and he didn't make any effort in assisting me. After paying over a hundred dollars for two heavy packages to ship to Texas, I went outside to my car to get two more boxes. Stephen must have woke up while I was out. As I approached the counter, one of the young girls working said, "go to him, I can't lift anything that heavy because I'm on disability." I made my way back to Stephen and I said something to the effect of, "Hey, I've got two more packages for you to send off." He slowly glanced up at me with a dismissive side-eye and said in no uncertain terms, "what you talking about? I've never seen you before in my life." I proceeded to remind him that I just saw him and that he helped me send off two heavy packages. He might not remember me but he had to remember the heavy packages in Home Depot boxes, right? Nope. Stephen said, "Someone else must have helped you, maybe it was me on some other day. You cray. How much you wanna bet that it was me? Do you want to bet your life on it?" I told him to wait a moment and I showed him the receipt from earlier in the day. It had his name, the date, the package weight/price and destination as well as the tracking number. He looked at it for about thirty seconds before saying with absolute conviction, "that was yesterday." No, Stephen. No. It was June 29th 2016. You went full postal. You couldn't admit that you were wrong on a non-sensical, ridiculous argument. He didn't know what was going on, he was completely oblivious and I'm relatively sure he put an incorrect address on my packages. After leaving the post office, I decided to see the online reviews and wow....I completely agree. This place is unbelievably awful. I had one more package to ship out and I decided to go to FedEx near the Hopkins Homewood campus that evening since the downtown USPS store was closed. FedEx deserves its own review. That single employee working was phenomenal. The package (with the same weight as the others and headed to the same destination in Texas) cost half of what USPS charged me. The employee explained how dangerous it is to have packages that are half-filled, something USPS didn't care about. The FedEx experience was professional, calm, helpful and reasonable - the complete opposite of USPS. If I can give this USPS location a negative score, I would. It shouldn't be open. It's an absolute disgrace of a postal service and the employees need to be heavily reprimanded. "Slow as molasses" or "please get off your phone" shouldn't be the first things that come to mind when walking into a post office. Save yourself the headache and go to FedEx on Charles Street instead. read more

This is the main Baltimore USPS sorting facility, so I have used it about 40 times in the past few months. The inner sanctum of the building smells just like the hippo house at the Baltimore Zoo, which always makes me smile, since I loved the zoo as a kid....There are about 5 workers/tellers at the counter at any given time. Unfortunately, 90% of them have bad attitudes and appear to be totally burned out. I just avoid interacting with them and drop my mail in the lobby or outdoor boxes. TAKE NOTE, they are no longer emptying the drop box outside or the inside ones hourly.....they have just placed new stickers on all the boxes stating only a 7pm pick-up....I dropped 40 boxes one Wednesday right before 12 noon hoping they'd go out at noon to the back for sorting, but they showed they were sorted at 10 pm that night, and some even at 1 and 2 am the next day. I find that if you drop stuff at your local post office in your own neighborhood before 5 pm, it will get driven here and get sorted BEFORE anything you might drop because I think the trucks go right in the back and unload directly to the sorting machines. If you are new to Baltimore and thinking of walking over here, it's convenient to the harbor, but keep in mind that the area it's in is very un-safe....the church down the block must have a homeless shelter, so you'll see 20+ unsavory men hanging out under the trees next to it on any given day.....it's not really a safe place to walk to/from....I've seen quite a few questionable people milling about the periphery of the parking lot looking for change on the ground on any given day, so keep that in mind when leaving your car and anything possibly valuable in sight... read more

Since the upgrade to new software, both machines are frequently out of service (without signs posted). Is it the managed's fault? I recently opened up a PO Box here for business purposes which was a very simple process. The postal workers are very nice and try to move as efficiently as possible. The regular workers that are there are so sweet, but this week the workers are very unprofessional. Talking to each other during transactions, checking their phones and all around too informal. It is a very large facility and sometimes the lines can be long. There are two automated units and a few different places to drop mail. The space is clean and pretty quiet most days. If you come in and know what you need you usually don't have many problems. read more

They would not go to the back to get an important priority mail package because it was 'all the way in the back'. I understand the sorting facility is in the back of the building but if I am requesting a important package that we know is there a simple phone call to the back could have got it to the front. They made me wait a entire day. Little things like this make me not like Baltimore government services. Similar establishments around the country are not like this. I came in expecting a long wait and confusion on what I needed clerk 08 helped me right away before I could even walk all the way to the end of the start of the wait line some clerks will let you walk all the way down and then say next only to come right back where you just walked from. clerk 08 was very, very helpful from beginning to the end, and very pleasant also which is not what I always get at the main post office. Ya know...the housemates and I mail our rents to the Lords. Not a wire transfers, PayPal, direct deposits, or silly bitcoin, not us. The Lords are still hooked on that AOL business, so we just go postal! This rentmail l did hand deliver to the agent to be post marked, sweet lady really, I also had the nerve to ask if they had a package I was told they did, well in truth I inferred because, "we are experiencing an unusually high call volume, good bye." Well click your heels together cause rent never shows up in Kansas, so we get a call, not a letter, and not on any AOL. "Where's the rents?" My god it's gonna be late! What to do? Seems this one's on me as I did hand deliver. But I didn't write nor email, I call this postal station in Fell's point to inquire further and am informed that a large number of letters were soaked by a recent torrent of a rainstorm, soaked to the point of Papier-mâché. Truth! One big glob of post. Impossible to decipher, so it's artfully molded down and shredded up, I'm using a lil license there! All the items were shredded to destruction, I'm told. Just maybe those pesky rent checks won't get cashed erroneously. The kindly suggested solution per the post office; put my mail in a Ziploc the next time I hand deliver it to the nice lady. Keeps out the weather and locks in the letter. Easy! They do lose a lot of mail, yet artfully delivered... completely destroyed but nicely sealed in a complimentary plastic bag. At present our latest carrier can hurl a parcel over a six foot fence smack dab on the front slab, my god! I have determined I will start recycling these tidy little bags the "oops mail" comes in. Going forward, I'm going to take some postal direction whilst hand delivering, I think I'm getting this thing down...yeah! read more

I thin k this post office is a big joke. If it were possible to rate this post office at a MINUS-10, it would be rated too high for the service I have received. Look at my problem below and judge for yourself. This is the actual copy of the sloppy work these people do on several of my packages that they have handled in the past. If I had my way, I would replace one if not all of the employees and hire some people that are competent enough to get the mail out in a timely manner. I had medicine shipped to me from NJ, guaranteed to arrive in 2 days (it was sent Thursday, and guaranteed to arrive Saturday). This is the post office it was shipped to, where it should have been shipped to my local post office (21234). Instead, it was sent to the post office in Linthicum Heights, a whole 30+ minutes from where I live. From here, it stated "out for delivery." When I called to inquire about my medication, the lady I spoke to was incredibly rude and said that because the facility was closed for the day, I would not be getting my medication until Monday. When asked where my package was, she could not give me a straight answer. She refused to transfer me to a supervisor and hung up on me. From here, the package went back to this post office (21233). There it sat until this morning, where it was sent to the correct USPS office and finally delivered. Had this been a life threatening medication, what would I have done? My question is why this first post office did not send it to the correct location to begin with? Yes, this involved many locations, but the reason that I am reviewing this particular location is due to the simple fact that they sent out my package to an unnecessarily far away location, resulting in the delay of my medication. In my experience with USPS offices both here in the Baltimore area and in many different NJ locations, Baltimore USPS offices are terrible! The workers never give you all of the information that you need to know, they always treat you as if you are unintelligent, and they seemed annoyed to help me any time I've ever gone in. I've also never seen any offices in NJ close for an hour for lunch! If they would hire more employees, they would be able to schedule breaks without closing the branch completely. read more
