It was a long-shot but we figured why not try something different for her. The instructor/owner, Itzak, is super nice and kept his students engaged, disciplined but still having fun. The practices are traditional and it's not hard for my child to follow. The pricing is fair and still within our budget. Along with virtual lessons, he actually has a Tai Chi app as well and I actually feel a little sore after trying it. Great options during this hard year especially. The studio is really clean and organized. The owner follows the guidelines for Covid-precautions and safety measures so peace of mind is there. The mats don't smell which is what I usually always smell when I go into other studios/gyms. That's a plus for me. I'm glad I was given this opportunity to work on myself and find a hobby that is not only fun but empowering. All the instructors made this possible too, each one is amazing, and when I look at other schools it's obvious that we look better. the values that make us better are the exact ones were taught every day like discipline and quality standards of teaching to us that are tight sometimes but for the better, I can easily say this is one of the best dojos in the city, county and state by far. I'm more than grateful at this point; I wish to continue for as long as I can. However, despite all the main obvious qualities the issues I see is that getting gear and figuring out things is difficult, gear often arrives quite late and finding a class schedule that is accurate to present day is a nightmare sometimes, I would really like to see an online schedule present in the future, it is a common thing for most businesses to do that, so I want to see it here too. But really, overall, it is a really good place just I would like to see some improvements on communication and another issue. I will not disclose much info but kids must advance their belt rank, one kid is trying they're very best and struggling while another might just show up and get a pass on their belt exams and other tests. Another big thing is a feeling of bias in tournaments over certain members in our studio, I feel as though I'm not as liked and loved as other teens and I believe it's because I'm not on all the fanciest teams and can trick as good as them. I don't mind so much but it hurts to feel that sometimes. I'd say though that I'm still liked, just not as much as some others. The last part about this sort of thing is money it cost me 500 dollars to even go to my blackbelt test, whether I passed was not guaranteed with the money. another thing is that you pay more based on which class difficulty rank you participate in, there are also three main levels of training, basic training, black belt training and leadership training. Often, I've seen parents talking with the girls at the front desk about their kids and where they are at, then to days later they get promoted in class, keep in mind you are not supposed to pay to play, but they accept it because it means more pay. You are supposed to work your way up and when the instructors see you are ready they will talk to you or your parents and or guardian about getting you in a higher and more expensive class. then if they are willing to pay, you will rank up. But overall I love the studio still, keep it up Team Justus :)

I came into contact with the studio at the What Women Want Expo in April of 2017, and Mr. Kaneshiro, our head master of all three schools (Midvale, Sandy, and Kearns) was giving out VIP cards and had the promo of try a free month of karate for Women's month when you buy a gi ($20). I thought I'd try it for just the month, and a month got me interested enough to try a year. I didn't think I'd stay past a year, but here I am 5.5 years later having grown mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually and still working towards my black belt. To say this dojo has been life changing is an understatement for me, as I am not the same person who started 5.5 years ago. I have gained so much more confidence in myself as a person, and have learned to let go of a lot of the unnecessary junk that weighs one down in the day to day. I've also learned curriculum, which is broken down in each rank, continue to work on katas, and have been creating my own techniques, as required in the higher ranks. WestWind also has an annual Challenge (inter-school tournament) that challenges one to step outside their comfort zone to try something new or overcome the fear or performing in front of others. Our school is broken down into Early & Basic Skills (ages 3-6 y/o) and Karate 7 y/o+. It's great getting to learn alongside children and adults. You learn a great deal of control in the process. WWKS also has weapons and other techniques seminars throughout the year to prepare for disarming and future technique creations (for higher ranks). I can't say enough good things about the teaching and senseis (instructors). They really take the time to help you understand your movements, and they care about you personally. My two kids and I have been with AMYS Martial Arts for more than a decade now. My teenager and I…read moreboth earned our black belts in 2021 and my 10yo will be testing for his in a month. To say my kids have grown up with the Moras sisters would be an understatement. They've helped shape their personalities in ways that only amazing role models can do (especially when kids don't want to listen to their parents). Taekwondo has helped my teenager maintain agility and flexibility as he has devoted more of his time to soccer and running. This kind of cross-training has helped him avoid injuries as his grows. This is all in addition to how much it's helped him with focus and discipline. Preparing for his black belt test was a massive lesson in perseverance! As for myself. Just before I turned 40, I started joining my kids in the Saturday morning family class just to get some kind of regular workout going again after my years having babies. I had no intention of testing for belts, I just wanted the workouts. 6 months later that evolved into bi-weekly adult classes, belt tests, and learning curriculum along with my son. I saw an increase in my own strength, agility, flexibility, and stamina. I love how every workout is different. Attending as many online classes as I could helped us all get thru the Covid lockdown too. It's been 10 years now and I still look forward to my morning mom classes and I'm excited to see my youngest son test for his black belt in a month.
