The ladies at the check-in desk were courteous. There was a slight hiccup with the billing, and it was handled well. They forwarded the issue to the registration department, and we worked it out from there. My registration clerk did a great job. She was fully versed in what she was presenting, and she was able to clearly explain/answer the questions I had. She was efficient and left nothing unanswered. From there, I joined the nurse for the actual pre-op. I'm horrible with getting names, but my nurse was great. Again, everything was fully explained, and she addressed every question asked. Bravo to both of these ladies who assisted me; it was a great visit, and they fully prepared me for what's to come. My only note: Grade F The registration office is a bit too open, and the patient information can be heard in other rooms. They have sliding doors to close off the waiting area, but they do not have doors on the other side. Because there's no way to fully close off the rooms, they are violating HIPAA due to everything being heard in other rooms. I heard the clerk asking for the full name, DOB, verifying insurance, etc. That is not acceptable. Parking: I was in the Justin Tower; they do have valet, but I'd be leery of using it. There was so much going on around the cars, I wouldn't feel comfortable adding my car to the mix. There's plenty of parking around that tower; parking elsewhere would be a short, but brief walk.

The parking downtown can always seem intimidating, but for such a big hospital in a crowded downtown area, the parking was pretty easy. I do wish that they had a sky bridge from the parking lot into the hospital like they did for the employees, but it was locked. That being said, I've had worse experiences at hospitals, but I don't really have a complaint about this one.

All you really have to do, honestly, is walk in at 2-3 different times a day and go by the cafe (which closes at 2 pm!! and has little staff at other times), go by the waiting areas and just listen in and walk thru a couple floors and then do the same thing at Baylor and Texas Health downtown - both within 5 miles and you will clearly see the difference. Medical City is the only FOR PROFIT hospital of the 3 and it shows. Not near as clean , very little to offer people who need to stay for many hours on several days, parking is horrible, and our experience had us being charged (Medicare) for ICU rooms when we clearly were not in ICU and were not receiving ICU care (no dedicated nurse, no machines hooked up other than heart monitor strapped on which we walked around with on several floors, even went outside a couple times.......how is that ICU?). The bigger issues were testing equipment sitting everywhere in the hallway supposedly not working when we went for a nuclear stress test. The test was put off 3 times due to badly functioning equipment, then we had to stay an extra night (8 total just for a-fib which was being treated with meds only) just because someone couldn't read the test in a 4 hour period :-(( During that 8 day stay, my husband was skipped over 7 meals - he lost 13 lbs in that week because they would falsely have his scheduled for tests that never happened or got rescheduled and meal time had already passed. They even had in his chart a test scheduled on a Sunday! We all know random tests are not done on Sundays. We even overheard the nurses saying "why do they keep doing this stuff to this guy?" "they know we don't do tests on Sundays, I feel sorry for him." Then there was the 2 nights I left to go home when my husband was asleep about 8 pm and the front doors which was near the visitors parking lot - were LOCKED! I was told I had to go out the back where the employee entrance was and walk around the building........AFTER DARK.......DOWNTOWN!?!? Are you kidding me?? I was livid. There were a couple of good nurses, but just as many who appeared to be gabbing most the time and definitely had a chip on their shoulder if you asked for anything. During the 2nd visit for open heart surgery (not planned - told us we had to have it based on blockage seen thru angiogram (by the way - never get this test done if you can avoid it - get a calcium score test first or a different imaging test - shameless plug for excellent book that goes over alternative tests with less radiation and adequate information gained , just not the $$ they may want - read Paleo Cardiologist and have your eyes opened. You really need to know these things and not rely solely on the medical industry to do what is in your best interest. Also look into Dr Oracle ai program - awesome program accessible to all and used by many med students and physicians. Upon leaving this hospital on day 6 after open heart bypass surgery, the NURSE took my husband down to the loading area and put him in the FRONT seat (big no-no with airbags and open chest surgical healing) AND said there were no discharge instructions!! Seriously, a nurse told us this. I pulled the car out of the way for other people to get by, got out, left poor husband in car alone and went back up to the cardiac floor and asked about discharge instructions. The lady/nurse at the counter said "Oh, he never gave you one of these?" She held up a 7 page red letter typed cardiac care discharge instructions which had ALOT of things we needed to know about sleeping , sitting , coughing, meds, follow up time frames, etc etc etc. I said "no he did not, he said there weren't any!" and I grabbed it from her hand and left. I know the medical industry changed alot after Covid, but this is just ridiculous! Do yourselves a favor and ask and investigate and go inside and walk around the hospitals in your area BEFORE you need one!! Ask friends and famly - alot of them and get specific reasons why they liked or didn't like a hospital. Cute nurse NOT a good reason to go there. One toilet not working one day NOT a good reason to avoid that one. Be involved in your own life, your own decisions and your own medical care as well as that of your family members. Sadly it is a money driven field and many uninformed "clients" who would have no clue if they were being deceived..........unless they do a little digging and pushing when necessary. I pray your experience is better...........for everyone's sake.

So unfriendly, just set on getting done like a assembly line. Tall male Dr. came in very professional and friendly. Noticeably busy yet made sure everything was understood. Unfriendly, lady, staff member commented about no rooms available, however, very shortly we were taken to a room. A nurse came in handing out instructions to things that were already done. Never gave her name and again rushing and unfriendly. Bed noted with hair on sheet and smelled. (Should've taken pictures) So up to the chair I went. Soon after another nurse (Shelly or Shelby) came in much kinder. She let us know she was the last nameless nurse's replacement. Ask for a blanket and was told if they had any available which I never received. The sweetest lady that delivers the worse news came in from billing. So kind, friendly and professional. Then the doctor returns again very professional, kind and explained everything. Afterwards a RN came to see how everything was going. I think she must have been the charge. Very kind though. You never know who's watching. I too am a nurse of many years and was livid with some of the treatment, poor bedside manner from some and the filthy room and bed. I came here a few years ago and had a wonderful experience back then. My how things have changed for the worse. My advice to please clean rooms, beds and mattresses. Oh yeah, and a blanket in a freezing room would be nice. After all, this is a hospital. Staff if you can't handle your workload try something else. Sick people need help and compassion. The medical field can be difficult and overwhelming I truly am aware. Try not to make it so obvious it is not the patient's fault. Be grateful you are working because there are many others who are not.

Got into rats nest (not knowing what it was) I did not put mask on and breathed this for several hours. I have several medical conditions: COPD emphysema, diabetes, polycythemia vera, high b/p, hemochromatosis, high cholesterol, and a few more. When a friend came by and told me about the Hantavirus, it scared me. I phoned primary doctor, was told to get to ER since I have lung diseases and it's critical for me to be tested asap. Went to BSW emergency hospital explained to them why I needed this test done. A blood test was done and CT scan of chest (I had a bra on with underwire, informed tech but was not ask to remove bra). That will interfere with scan. I ask RN again about Hantavirus test. Was told they can not do it at this facility, I needed to go to bigger hospital. Ok then I needed to go. But I sat there waiting. At least 3 1/2 hrs have gone by. Why am I still here wasting my time and ask to leave. Once they released me, they told me to pickup prescription from CVS 24 hour service. Which I did, ask Pharmacist what the medication was for and he stated my lungs. Then looking at my release papers, they had diagnosed me with COPD and hemochromatosis. WHAT !!! I'm the one that told them that I had these two diseases and had a lung doctor. I didn't go to the hospital for that reason but they diagnose me with that, but I already knew that. I phoned and questioned this and got the run around. Wow, what a waste of time !! They don't allow photos or recordings so I apologize for the few photos I could take. I'm sure everyone has their own opinions about this emergency hospital, but I'm just very disappointed in how I was treated. They must not truly have listened to me. I have their names but I say lesson learned... don't go back !!
