The worst customer service in a USPS I've ever experienced. Not helpful and very rude.

I personally think it's somewhat useless to rate the performance and experience from any government…read moreagency. I also was hesitant to write a review, but I thought my explanations might be helpful for some. I went to this branch to apply for a passport on a Saturday morning. Yes, the website had the "thorough" instructions on what documents, both original and photocopied, they needed. Both hubby and I still felt unclear, mainly on the diction. Don't get me wrong. The staff was patient even though hubby expressed his frustration. They were cool and no one took it personally. Hence I could only render three (3) stars because I did successfully submit my passport application...that morning. Ok, now here's the gist. Are ya'll ready? 1) Why should you make an appointment online? It guarantees your queue, versus those who don't make one. When I was there, the staff called out the customers with appointments first. Without an appointment, you had to take chances and lots of waiting might be involved. Making an appointment online was pretty easy. Lots of reminders were sent to my text and e-mail. 2) what documents do you need for applying for a passport? - the state ID or a driver's license (you have to show the staff who processes the application) - photocopied ID (both front and back) - the "original copy" of proof of U.S. citizenship. This WILL BE mailed with your application. - the photocopied version of proof of U.S. citizenship - Of course, the application (no need to fill out "section 2") 3) what was our frustration? Hubby and I read the instructions more than three (3) times. We didn't know the my original naturalization certificate needed to be submitted. That was a piece of very important document and we were not comfortable with that. We ended up driving to the nearby Fedex and made some photocopies, just in case. Do I trust the government agency? Not really, but s*it got to be done through USPS. I had no choice. 4) On the top first page of instruction sheets, it stated "proof of U.S. citizenship: Evidence of U.S. citizenship AND a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) must be submitted with your application. Ok, I got it and it did imply the original must be given at the time of application. It definitely could be rephrased in a much more clear manner. 5) the fee for the passport alone is $110 (as of 06/30/2018). If you also need a passport card, it will be $140. No credit or debit cards can be accepted. Fortunately, I had a couple of old personal checks and paid with a check. 6) processing fee for the passport is $35. This can be paid with a credit or debit card. 7) the facility here takes passport photos, which is an additional $15. This fee can also be paid with either a credit or debit card. I also noticed that many walk-ins for passport application came in after 11am. The best strategy is to get there early to avoid this whole waiting game. I hope my passport shows up at my house without any hiccup, yet we will see...

Wow. The line wasn't terribly long, though there always seems to be a person who has some more complicated postal issue they're resolving. Whilst I was standing in line behind one other person, two or three others got in line behind me in quick succession and another employee came over to open another window, so I was helped within 5 minutes or so of getting in line. The woman who helped me was courteous , efficient, and unlike almost every other employee I encounter at a post office didn't seem to hate her job or hate the people who come to the post office and make her have to do her job. Unfortunately I didn't get her name because I figured it would be on the receipt, but it wasn't. Anyway, thanks for defying almost seems to be a post office mandate to be as unpleasant as possible, Woman at the Window! Totally unrelated to the post office itself, there were a dozen or more house sparrows flitting around in the bushes and on the window ledges at the post office this morning. Cheerful send off on a lovely, unseasonably warm November morning.

Dear Postmaster General Steiner:…read more There have been so many problems and issues at the 2 Skokie locations with my mail and packages, and then Customer Service issues both at 9318 Skokie Blvd., as well as at the main Skokie Post Office located at 4950 Madison St. I am sure there are records already in your system from other customers. I have had so many problems that I should have contacted you sooner, but something happened today that I wanted to make you aware of. Something I ordered online showed that the item had arrived at the Post Office where my P.O. Box is on Sat. 8/28 at 7:31 am, but the scan did not show it was delivered. It was USPS Ground Advantage tracking number 9400 1081 0624 4473 0467 44 When I went to my P.O. Box on Tue. 9/1, it was not there, then today 9/2, it was not there either, and this is when I first brought this up to the clerk at 9318 Skokie Blvd. I explained what happened, she looked the tracking number up on her terminal and saw the same info., and then told me it was at the main Skokie Post Office on Madison St. I then drove there and explained what happened to Diamond. I go to both of the Skokie locations, she works at both, and it is not saying much, but she is far and away the best employee that you have in Skokie. I went over all of the same info.; she is a great listener, and then she went in back to look for it and/or look for someone that could help find it, since there was only 1 other Clerk working up front. After about 2-3 minutes in back, I could hear (but not see) her speaking to a male, and then I heard this man say, "maybe he shouldn't use the Post Office." This occurred at approximately 2:15 pm CDT at the 4950 Madison St. location in case there are cameras in the back and you want to figure out who the man who said these things about me is. It is very sad that anyone would speak about a fellow American like this. Especially someone like whoever this man is that said this about me, because at the end of the day, he is a Government employee, and my Federal Income Tax is supposed to go to things like paying his salary and benefits. I brought this up to two different clerks, both Diamond, and the other young lady who I do not know her name... just that I overheard him say this about me, but the first one would not tell me his name, and then when Diamond returned from the back, I told her that I had overheard this. I did not ask her who the guy's name was, because again, in my opinion she is the only good employee you have at either Skokie location, and she has helped so many times trying to fix all of the mistakes that the other employees made and has helped me numerous times, that I just did not want to involve someone in something that was not her fault. I have seen her help other customers many times as well while I am waiting in line. Even today, Diamond went over everything, it was just a conversation, everything both ways was respectful and a normal tone of voice, she apologized for what happened, which was very classy, but I told her right away thank you for saying that, but there's no reason to apologize to me because you did nothing wrong. (Someone did find the package later that afternoon, she actually was the one who called me to tell me that someone found it, and I had to drive back (for the 4th time today) to finally obtain my property. I'm still trying to understand why/how someone could say something like, "maybe he shouldn't use the Post Office." I'm not one to complain, mostly for fear of retaliation and time constraints, it is just that when multiple times over the past months things are missing, scanned in as delivered but not in my box or they can't find it, the clerks putting my stuff in the wrong box (2 months ago this happened with my Rx) I did not have the medication that day because of someone's error, and then I had to spend close to 2 hours at the Skokie Police Department filling out their forms only to be told at the end that their (Skokie PD's report) really did not matter; I had to fill out the form online at USPS.com for missing/stolen medication, clerks at both locations basically rolling their eyes at me and not believing me or caring, Tuesday 9/1this happened too.... there was another problem I had ordered some supplements, the tracking showed delivered but it was not in my box and they could not find it in back, then after 3 trips driving back and forth between both Post Offices, the clerk at 9318 Skokie Blvd. looked more and figured out that whoever put the mail in the boxes before the Post Office opened put my thing in someone else's P.O. Box, then the clerk just basically tossed/slid it to me and said sorry in such a sarcastic and condescending manner. Apparently, the Postmaster is on leave, can you please let me know who the appropriate person to review all of this with is? Thank you in advance for your time and information.

I requested no such thing & figured I could get this sorted out prior to starting my work day. I quickly got dressed & headed off. There is very limited parking, despite arriving just an hour after opening & of course, the line was long. There was also a notable horde of less than enthused people standing near a blue door. The gentleman assisting the line, was very polite & handed me a green sheet to put my tracking info, phone number, & address on, which was then added to a large pile. You're told you'll be called when your package is ready. This is where it gets bad. After waiting 20+ minutes, a woman appears at the door, tells everyone they should leave as no more than 10 people can be in the lobby at once. I get it - we're in the middle of a pandemic. This did little to get people to leave & I could tell her patience was wearing thin. After waiting another 30+ minutes, she reappears & when I was asked what I was waiting for, I told her it was a package. At this point, I was told to go home & I would be called. Admittedly, this was not how I wanted to spend my morning, & even worse, waste time only to be turned away. I hate being late for work & having to stay later for reasons out of my control. Upon arriving home, I submitted a ticket online (as I have before for packages), & sulked. Do yourself a favor if you find yourself in my position & submit a ticket instead. My package was finally delivered the next day - by a postal carrier who was not wearing a mask, might I add. I am now considering things I order online & it may be worth just paying extra for service with UPS or FedEx.
