I tried calling the Skokie post office but they have AI answering. For 10 extremely frustrating minutes we kept going round and round as it kept asking me my reason for wanting to speak to an agent. I kept telling them several different ways but it 'could not understand me' was the constant reply. It's disgusting that you can't get thru to a human agent to answer a question that AI cannot answer. PLEASE change that recording so that after 2 tries it connects you to an agent. I had a very good experience today. My husband and I went for the passport services and the customer service we received was so good. We had originally went to a different usps location and it was a terrible experience while coming here we had our guards up however, it all went away the moment the young lady near by the passport service window attended us. She was very polite, patient, explained things very clearly and thorough. Will be coming again. read more

Wow. I had a relatively good experience at this post office, which in some respects makes me not want to visit it again lest the next time I come here be a more typical, terrible experience. The line wasn't terribly long, though there always seems to be a person who has some more complicated postal issue they're resolving. Whilst I was standing in line behind one other person, two or three others got in line behind me in quick succession and another employee came over to open another window, so I was helped within 5 minutes or so of getting in line. The woman who helped me was courteous , efficient, and unlike almost every other employee I encounter at a post office didn't seem to hate her job or hate the people who come to the post office and make her have to do her job. Unfortunately I didn't get her name because I figured it would be on the receipt, but it wasn't. Anyway, thanks for defying almost seems to be a post office mandate to be as unpleasant as possible, Woman at the Window! Totally unrelated to the post office itself, there were a dozen or more house sparrows flitting around in the bushes and on the window ledges at the post office this morning. The clerk seemed like she doesn't want to be there and looked annoyed. There are some very able and helpful customer service workers at the Madison Branch, Skokie IL. BUT--- Unfortunately, there are a just a few employees (in particular a front office supervisor) who act like they are being bothered when the customers need help. There needs to be more and better supervision from the top, plus better training. (I was told that Ron is their supervisor) Shout out to the hard working mail carriers, in particular, Oscar (area surrounding Emerson and Karlov). What a thoughtful and responsive worker! I hardly ever go to the post office. When I do go, I'm usually there for an obscene amount of time (typically Lawrence or Devon Avenues). I have to amuse myself by making fun of the people standing around me so that I won't go mad. I walked in and grabbed a ticket with about 10 people ahead of me, I was preparing myself for the self amusing session. Thankfully, there were four postal worker helping customers. They all seemed to have a sense of humor and were cracking jokes, having a good time and good rapport with the customers. It could of been the fact that they were getting ready to lock the doors since I walked in at 5:50pm! It works for me, especially since I was amazed at how quickly the line seemed to be moving. I didn't even have a chance to make fun of anyone which made me a little sad but made my trip to the PO more exciting that I would have hoped. Most importantly, the package, that's been under my arm while I've been walking all over Chicago for an entire week, was finally shipped to Pittsburgh, yeah! read more

My lifesaver! Why? Because it closes at 6:00pm! I got off work later than expected, and all the others closed around 5:00/ 5:30 pm. I made it in before the door was locked; thank goodness. Only two employees were working, but the line moved smoothly compared to others I've visited in the past. I've personally never really had any issues with the post offices in Skokie as for customer service, or items shipped. It's mainly the ones in Chicago that have ridiculous lines with only one or two employees at the counter. Another cool thing about this post office, is that parking is no issue because they have their own lot with many places to park. I wish I could give them zero starts this place is absolutely distrusting and is a scam facility. I came and purchase 60 united states .55$ stamps and 40 $1.20 stamps and wish I didn't trust them to give me the right amount and check before leaving because once I came home and counted right away I saw they didn't give me the right amount they only gave me 40 state stamps and 20 international stamps. When I went back to have this corrected and be given $81.00 worth of stamps they denied right away the mistake and said the books show that they gave me the corrected amount when they absolutely didn't give me the correct amount. They were only able to validate their books that they gave me the incorrect amount for international but said their books show they gave me the right amount for state stamps which was false. They must have a dyslexic accountant checking their books because when I told them to check the cameras they refused to do so and made me leave with enough stamps for my wedding invitations. SHADY USPS. Marking packages delivered days before they are actually delivered. Probably to appear better to management. All they are doing is causing customer frustration. I have been on the phone for 40 minutes and 2 emails in. Im thinking my package was stolen! Same thing happened to my wife and a wasted trip to the USPS office. Apparently this is happening to other people as people are complaining on the Neighbors app. Very disappointed. Staff in the post office are also not very friendly. They have no customer service skills and are rude. Mail man is ok though besides getting other people's mail. He's very respectful. read more

This is a pathetic excuse for a post office! Mail carrier ignores pick up package requests. Phone calls to the post office result in snippy answers from clerks. If I could give negative stars I would. Post office carrier delivered to wrong street, and never got it corrected. I've been told I'd get a call back and still nothing, 6 months have gone buy. This is undoubtedly my favorite post office. The lines can get long, but the wait is never terrible. I'm starting to think that our expectations for a fast check out are a bit too extreme. I've noticed it in myself - sometimes after just two minutes in I find myself irritated. Then I remind myself to just slow down, and it's really not that bad. When you stop complaining about the line, you notice that the store is organized, and the staff is friendly. Patrice is my favorite staffer here, but everyone I've dealt with is kind. I called to inquire about a important package mailed out on Thursday 1/31/19, however I understand that the vortex that occurred delayed a lot of mail, my issue isn't that. Why is going to the post office such a damn chore and a painful process that you always get flashback of being at the DMV (without the strenuous waits)? I have come here a few times when I couldn't use FedEX. God, it was horrible if I didn't use the APC. I would waste time waiting in line for more than 15 minutes. With the APC, I have no issue with USPS, except the stupid rule that anything above 13 ounces has to be tendered to a postal worker. Why don't they have someone on the side ready to accept packages that have been paid and labeled? Coming here to renew my passport was a pain. I waited for an hour to get to someone (Mine had expired and I needed it taken care of before my trip). When I got to someone, she couldn't explain properly what I needed done, so I had to keep confirming what I thought she was saying. If you are going to ship, check out Fedex Ground. Better service... If you are using USPS, use the APC... but go on a off time if you have a package over 13 ounces, because you'll have to wait in line just like anyone else. Hit or miss with the service and their attitudes. I generally have a positive experience and when it isn't busy they are super friendly. My main gripe is that I pay for certified mailing receipts all the time and about 30% of them don't come back. I don't send the documents certified not to get proof back that the person I sent them to received them. These are legal documents I send and should issues arrive later down the road with my customer I have to have proof that I sent the letters which is why I send the documents certified to begin with. Anyhow! it's conveinent, it's clean and the people are MOSTLY friendly but somewhere there's a kink in their system. I suggest if you do send anything certified from a business do not pay the postage on your metere and then just send it out with your mailman that comes around. Instead, pay the postage with your meter, collect all the certified letters going out for a week so you don't have to go to the post office every day then get the counter rep inside the office to stamp each and every receipt so that you have proof you paid the certified mailing fee just in case you don't ever get the signature card back. That's the only way they'll refund your money. read more

They will just lie right to your face. When I went to pick up a package on Saturday, they told me that the package was already delivered to the door. Came home and received packages from amazon and fedex but nothing from usps. I called in and they confirmed that it was delivered and even told me that they called the mailman to check. Three days later, I called back because the tracking still shows the package has 'arrived at post office' and I needed it to be changed to delivered status so that I can file a claim but all of a sudden they tell me that it will be delivered today. I can't believe I'm taking time to leave a review, especially for the post office. But, I had a wonderful visit this morning. Friday, 10:00 am. Renewing my passport. I showed up for the appointment with my old passport, check book, and filled out forms. Then, the older gentleman at the passport window took it from there. He checked the documents, answered my questions, etc. Plus, the post office offered envelopes and photo services. The entire process took ten minutes. Took 2 packages (4x6) at 10am on Tuesday for three day delivery service. Thursday evening they arrived at the Chicago Distribution Center and stated delivery by Friday, don't think so. I'm a regular customer at this post office and have been for years. I avoid the usual long wait in line by using the self service machine to ship all of my packages. I ship a lot of packages, sometimes dozens a month. I have always found it a great convenience that this branch opens the lobby at 3 AM which allows me access to the self service machine in the lobby. From time to time, I find the doors still locked after 3 AM. I understand that occasionally the person responsible for unlocking them might be running late or might have called in sick. I don't normally care when it is infrequent. However, this month I have found the doors still locked 6 out of the 7 times I have tried to ship packages after 3 AM. Tonight I was there at 4 AM and one time I was there at 4:30 AM and the doors were still locked. I do not have the time to continue to be inconvenienced so frequently. If I did, I wouldn't regularly be shipping packages at 3 in the morning, would I? Either find someone responsible enough to unlock the lobby doors conforming with the hours posted on your front door or stop having those hours posted. Update: Nov 23, 2016. After a successful few weeks of being open on time the doors were locked again tonight almost an hour after they were supposed to be open. Update: Nov 26. Doors still locked one hour and 15 minutes late. Update: Dec. 2. Still locked one hour late. Lights weren't even turned on. Update: Dec. 16. Locked 40 minutes late. Update: Jan. 31.
