US Post Office - I needed to send the smallest box via Priority Mail. It's interesting to track them and see how they bounce around different P.O.s en route

Jim G. and I need to renew our passports, so we need to drop everything off at the post office to get tracking info, etc. I happened to be driving not too far from this post office on my way to get my hair done and figured I'd stop in really quickly to see if it was a possibility. At 9:40 on a Saturday morning there were plenty of parking spots and I walked right up to the very friendly gentleman at the counter. I was in and out within 5 minutes (no hyperbole)! While I do my best to always avoid the post office, if I need to go in again, this will be my go-to spot!

Looking for one on the phone pulled up several in adjacent neighborhoods, so why not go to one in Calabasas, a very nice, wooded, and hilly neighborhood at Los Angeles's far western edge? I see that there's a spread in the reviews for the USPS in Calabasas, CA. We've all had some outlier experiences with post offices we regularly use. Some post offices are almost always marginal, but that's rare and can sometimes coincide with their area in general. I almost hate to say that. The Calabasas post office is in a strip mall. It shares parking with other merchants in this strip mall, but a parking space is likely to be found. I needed to send a small box using the USPS priority mail product. Their free boxes you obtain for this service are well designed - in how sturdy they are, in how easy they are to assemble, and even in how easy it is to remove the protective adhesive so that the box will seal. The price for this was just about $10. The gentleman at the counter was helpful and polite. He even added some extra tape at my request, even though the box probably would not have come undone. But why chance it? We made some small talk, given how uncrowded it was at the time, and we commented on how the SFV and the West Side of L.A. have changed over the years. I was told the parcel would arrive in 2 days. It got to its destination the following day! I'm giving this post office 4 stars because it's a small post office. However, it's clean and seems to function well. Now, let me add some pedantic fodder to this review. First, more so than any other section of the city of Los Angeles, SFV suburbs tend to use the name of the suburb (Northridge, Van Nuys, Sylmar, Studio City, etc.) on the mailing address, whereas West Side suburbs like Brentwood, Ladera Heights, and Miracle Mile use Los Angeles on the mailing address. However, if you were to send something to a SFV suburb and address it to Los Angeles - followed by the correct zip code - I'm pretty sure it would get there. Then, the word "calabazas," from which Calabasas was probably derived, means pumpkins in Spanish.

US Post Office - It's smaller, but they seem to have various supplies to sell, including cards (FYI: Trader Joe's sells those on the cheap). It's also clean.

US Post Office - This is the small suburban SoCal USPS branch for Calabasas in the West Valley.  There is parking right behind me as well, and on the street.

US Post Office - Having many P.O. boxes, seen upon entering, and just being Calabasas seem to be simpatico.

They do charge a service of two dollars to email them, the girl was very efficient and I had a lot of emails to send so she was very patient with me. And even by Bicycle!!! Wait, whattttt????? Yes, the company which was started by two teenagers who began a messenger delivery service by bicycle in 1907 turned out to be the largest package delivery system globally of its time. Of course, nowadays, other companies have come into play, putting their own spin on how they can get you your package even quicker. Despite this.... UPS is still a Global Leader in its industry and ships nearly 6 billion packages per year. Fun fact: UPS stands for United Parcel Service. ------------------------------ Personally, I love shipping items via UPS. The guaranteed tracking number that comes with every single thing you ship and not having to pay extra (I know I know, the price is built in) but it's the principle of it and I like being able to track what I'm sending out. Also, sending something with USPS aka snail mail just doesn't give me the same confidence that my package will arrive like when I ship it with UPS. Also, I love UPS' consistency. If you see a UPS driver in your neighborhood around 1pm today, you will more than likely see them in your neighborhood tomorrow at.... You guessed it, 1 p.m. Yeah, Their routes are carefully researched and designed for consistency which makes for a reliable service that you can count on. Fun Fact: UPS has implemented for drivers to only make "right hand turns" to avoid accidents and improve efficiency. Anyone ever see a UPS driver go left?? lol But Lance, what if you don't have time to sit on your porch and wait for that reliable UPS driver to roll through at 1 pm like you claim they do? Enter the UPS store!! Yeah baby! A brick and mortar store front where Monday through Friday you can drop off your package from 830-7pm (10-4 on Saturdays, 10-3 on Sundays) and leave there with the confidence that your package will get picked up by a UPS driver and then later delivered to its destination as scheduled. Other than dropping off your UPS packages.... The UPS Store offers the following services: -Fax Machine Services -Notary -Passport ID Photos -Office & Mailing Supplies -Amazon Returns!!! So.... Who's ready to ship some stuff??

I went in to mail a package during a slow time. I greeted and spoke to her - as I greet and speak to everyone- with positivity, kindness, and consideration; however, she was dismissiveness, bitter, and rushed (even though there was no line). It's possible she has worked there for a long time, felt burnt out, and or was having a bad day, but when I saw her being very kind to an older gentlemen next to me - who she seemed to know and or who supposedly comes in often - it became clear she was conditionally nice to him and for whatever reason not to me. Her demeanor was a stain on the environment and my experience. I would encourage the Tarzana Post Office Management to revisit her employment status. In a society where there's a lack of kindness and decency, genuine people are hard to come by; when genuine people themselves are treated with disrespect and unkindness, action then needs to be taken, otherwise the company culture suffers for the other employees and the customers they serve, like me. For those living/visiting the Tarzana/Encino areas, I strongly advise driving further elsewhere to another post office if you want better service - or if you want to keep your joy.

I actually paid $2.17 but when the postal worker on the other end delivered it, they collected $6.00 from the recipient after being told "the sender screwed up." THANKS A F**KING LOT. Your stupid kiosk in Tarzana, CA tells me $2.17 and then you want some money for lunch? Not that 6 bucks buys anything anymore.
